We have a lot to learn and a lot of work to do to our property to make it 'truly great' whitetail habitat. Surely do appreciate your videos! This will be our second season and we don't see a lot of deer, but enough to keep 'the faith'' - I passed on a small 8 a couple of days ago and I hope he survives the neighbors and gun season!

    Just started watching this and I know it's going to be full of great useful information as all off your videos are. As this being my first year back into hunting after about 10 years. I have learned alot watching your videos. Just bought 32 acers in prime farm area in central Ohio and I have figured out what I want to do to my property from your videos from switch grass to food plots and water holes. I already have some major scrapes not sure I need to make a mock if I take advantage of the ones already in use. Switched sd cards this morning and I have a big 10 point I've never seen chasing a non receptive doe so they are on the move where I'm at thats for sure. That's great to hear! So far I've hunted 5 sits...4 stands. My wife has hunted 13 sits, 6 stand locations. I may sit a stand tomorrow that I hunted a week ago Sunday, but I have a strong track record of shooting about 75% of my bucks the first sit in a stand. In fact if I look back at roughly my top 50 bucks around 45 bucks we're shot from different stands. I really skip around. Thursday morning will be a first sit stand...the same on Friday.
      I actually don't remember the last time I sat the same stand 2 days in a row. I am always searching for the best/freshest stand...

    Great video as always very informational. Any chance you could do a area over head. Behind my house? It's at 530 basket rd.webster N.Y 14580. For stand placement. I have hunting Permission from my neighbors on both sides and behind me. This was my first year hunting I did harvest a 8 pointer but never seen a mature buck while hunting but did catch one on tree cam.I have two stands up back first right side of my property on the edge of our house maybe 100 yards from houses.The second is my left neighbors 200 yards in from houses. The thing that stinks you can hear everything from traffic to dogs barking.. I only spotted does and yearling bucks there. I'm thinking I have to go further back it is thick back there but opens alittle.and was thinking of making a path this spring so I can get back there quick and Quietly.Any help would be very awesome and much appreciated. Do you value low temps or a high barometric pressure more when planning a sit?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 років тому +4

      That's a great question and I think bp is largely misunderstood. I did a lot of research over my own buck kills and a few others. Trail cam pics, etc. What I believe is that the barometric pressure alone does very little...similar to the moon. However, the conditions that sometimes accompany a bp change, are the true influencers. For example although it doesn't happen often, a rise in barometric pressure without wind or temp change does very little if anything at all. However, major temp changes, wind changes and changes in extreme weather influence movements greatly.
      Think of it like if the temp drops 20 degrees, winds die a bit and extreme weather conditions of rain, sleet, snow and thunder stops for several hours...then the hunting will be outstanding regardless of the bp. Same with the moon. Not to say there couldn't be a slight improvement with bp rising...but it is not one of the major influencers and alone, really isn't most likely a noticeable influencer of deer movement.
      Hope that makes sense ..but the bp from what I have experienced, isn't a factor by itself, to plan a hunt around, in any way.

    • @dualthreatoutdoors
      @dualthreatoutdoors 5 років тому +1

      Yeah, usually the in the days where I have seen a high rise in barometric pressure, there is usually also a drop in wind speed or temperature as well, so that does make sense. There is a new app out called "Deer Cast", I'm sure you have heard of it. They almost solely rate hunting days off of barometric pressure alone, so I've recently been debating how accurate the apps ratings are.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 років тому +1

      @@dualthreatoutdoors I fully agree and yes I've heard, I consider it a major flaw. BP and moon by themselves are not movement influencers....or enough to plan a hunt around.
      Think about what factors actually influence if a deer misses feedings or not...heavy wind, extreme weather, extreme temp changes. BP and the moon are just more feelings in the air....not physical influences.

    • @dualthreatoutdoors
      @dualthreatoutdoors 5 років тому +1

      @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 that makes sense for sure. All I know is that these next 10 days are the prime time to be in the woods. • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 років тому +1

      Justin,ha...I have zero portions of the land I have never seen. I'm on the lands all the time. I just leave them alone from about 3-4 weeks before the season until the end if the season. That's it. Rally a great parcel shouldn't have too many mature bucks in it after the season anyways...so really no harm no foul, because they typically aren't there. Again though...I only stay out during the season, except for blood tracing, deer retrieval, etc.

    • @bucknuts8824
      @bucknuts8824 5 років тому +1

      @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks for clearing that up. If you jump a mature buck during post season scouting, do you risk over pressuring the deer, and losing it to a neighboring property? Or will it return to that core bedding area?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  5 років тому

      @@bucknuts8824 that's a great question! Although every time I am in those areas I feel nervous...I really don't think it matters in any way. I feel it takes deer about 3-4 weeks of forgiveness. Meaning, once that period has passed they don't seem to care. the problem with that during hunting season is that time is never appropritete or realistic to have pass.the buck get shit in a neighbors, the buck relocates and likes his new daylight home better, or he just plain passes a time he was going to use your land mostly, and never comes back once pushed out. That's where the 3-4 weeks of cooling off is really important before the season begins...but 8 months of cooling off...or 4 months, or even 2 months is not needed.
