No need to disconnect / re-connect the battery...and the attendant possible resetting of codes, etc......otherwise excellent presentation and photo work. You give a caution not to pull on the unit for removal....but ( as was my case), my car suddenly ran poorly and I traced the problem to this VVT valve being "bad".....but I din't know what was bad with it. The unit failed so I had to take it out....only to find the crimped body connection was broken and was the "fault" of it failing.....so yes.....I had to pull thte top-half out ( at the point the crimped conection).... and was surprised to see the bottom half still in it's recess in the engine. Somehow I managed to pull it out....I think using needle nose pliers.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it.
I agree. This solenoid usually fails when there are electrical or mechanical issues, such as when the actuator binds or gets clogged due to sludge, or sometimes due to external mechanical forces affecting the exposed part. The external visible part is made of softer material than the inner part and becomes brittle overtime due to heat exposure, making it more prone to cracking or breaking, especially when accidentally struck by a tool during engine work. Also, the plastic wire harness can corrode or become brittle and lose electrical contact due to engine vibration.

The fault codes point to the following possible causes:
      1) Rocker arm actuator position sensor circuit problem.
      2) Engine fuel and air metering issue
      3) Ambient air temperature sensor circuit issue
      4) Injection pump fuel metering control issue (cam/rotor/injector)
      5) Shift/Timing solenoid malfunction (shift solenoid circuit electrical issue)
The sensors/parts could be broken, dirty, loose, improperly installed, etc..)
Find & fix the cause or causes first then reset the ecu. Retest & observe.

@@Viosified when I pulled it out the solenoid is stuck is there a way I can pull it?

    • @Viosified
      @Viosified  3 роки тому +1

@@omaressam6365Hi. If you tried the steps in the video but the solenoid is stuck, it could be that sticky sludge has formed around the solenoid which prevents it from sliding out. If this is the case, there is a possibility of breaking the solenoid in half if you pull it the wrong way, so be careful.
I suggest you take the time and try to carefully pry around and in between the base of the solenoid and engine block with a flat head screwdriver. Try this a few times and see if it works. Just be careful not to break the solenoid in half.
If it still doesn't budge, then the sludge inside may have hardened already (probably due to delayed oil changes or using the wrong type of oil). In this case you may have to access the solenoid body from the top of the engine by removing the valve cover. But you will need to improvise a tool, like a slightly bent slender metal rod about a foot long and a hammer, to reach the inside tip of the solenoid and gently tap it from inside until it slides out.
If this seems too complicated or if you don't have the proper tools, then it is recommended to have your mechanic do this for you.
Once your mechanic has successfully removed the solenoid without damaging it, you can then do it safely on your own next time by doing the steps shown in the video for regular maintenance.
Also, you may need to keep up on the scheduled oil change and use Full Synthetic 5w-30 motor oil to prevent sludge formation inside the engine.
As you know, changing the oil every 7k to 10k kilometers with Full Synthetic 5w-30 motor oil, as recommended in the owner's manual, ensures the health and longevity of the engine and prevents sludge formation.
I hope this helps you somehow.
