“You can’t get stuck in nostalgia… you have to be brave.” Your mom is so wise, so present, so calm and adaptive, so loving. Thanks for sharing her with all of us.
I was going to comment on this as well. I come from a family who is stuck and I have to remind myself to "be brave". I am taking these words to heart. What a great Mom and wise woman. 💓
You need to keep that quote in mind when big life changes happen and you need to go to a plan B. It’s good to apply this to many situations whether young or old to keep things fresh and interesting.
When mom said “Gardens are never done” I was validated. When I moved into my house, I told my husband that my yard renovation was on a five year plan to finish…..it’s now been seventeen years and I’m still changing and moving things. I’m now making yard plans for the upcoming year…….FOR SURE, GARDENS ARE NEVER DONE!
Boy did that statement make me pause & question myself!! 😯 My husband & I are "Seniors", 69& 70 yrs old & have lived in Texas for 40+ years & now finding the summers much less tolerable. He would move somewhere else in a flash but me...I may be STUCK!! Loved this video!!🌻❤️
She is such a joy. I just love her personality, her wisdom, her sense of humor, and the calm nature about her. She just seems like such a relaxing and fun person to be around. Thanks for sharing your talents and wisdom with us all. You both are absolute treasures, as are your families. Wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery, Susan. By the way, I'm an RN and I think you both would have made incredible nurses, but I'm glad you followed your true passions. ❤️
One of the most enjoyable interviews I have ever watched. It was like sitting down with family telling the stories about the old days and reminiscing and laughing together. Wonderful!
Oh, Laura, what a wonderful video. I’ll bet you never thought when you started doing gardening videos that you would ever sit down and do a Q&A chat will mom for a video. It’s just wonderful that you have allowed us into your personal life and let us get to know your family, and still maintain your personal space and privacy. I During these difficult times, and especially with the isolation many of us are experiencing with COVID, it’s such a joy to be included on your antiquing adventures and trips to the garden center and nurseries, etc. For those of us with health issues who have had to stay in and be extra careful for 2 years plus it’s a respite from the loneliness and depression of not being able to live a normal life. Thank you, Laura, Aaron, Susan, Monica, Benjamin, Samantha, and everyone for inviting us to share part of your lives. I don’t think you can fully comprehend what a wonderful gift you are giving us. From someone on the receiving end I sincerely thank you for giving me a little bit of happiness and joy everyday. Although we will never meet in person you have all become part of my extended family and I look forward everyday to spending a little time you. Bless you all, always and a full and speedy recovery to Susan. 😊💕🦋🕊

Oh, I needed to hear this!!! "You can't stay stuck in nostalgia". We are in the process of retiring and moving and leaving our life home and garden makes me think twice. But, I will be closer to my parents who need us and our children who moved away and are going to make us Grandparents!!!! Like Susan says, "You have to be brave". I believe God will provide and He always has something better for us waiting. We just have to be patient and trust. I have so many thoughts on how our life will be and am so excited about this. Garden Answer started out with you Laura - then slowly Aaron came into view, then you moved and changed properties and grew so much - and we just love every member of your family now that they've been in videos as well. Thanks to your Mom for such a treat today♥
OMG! First revelation.... "My mom's name is Susan." I've only known her as "Laura's Mom." What a fun Q&A with her! You are both so gracious with your time and knowledge.
I LOVED this. Your mom is so sweet and wise. She is the perfect person to own a garden center. And she gave me validation on how I am with my garden. Can't wait for "Chats with Susan" in the Hartley! Well done, Laura!
VERY enjoyable video. Susan’s voice is so soothing, and she has such a positive attitude. I can see how she’s a real nurturer and caregivers. A great example for her kids.
As a teacher in Florida who hasn’t received a raise in over 10 years, I’ve finally started looking for a different career path. I started watching your show maybe 3/4 years ago and you’ve inspired me so much that I started my own garden and flower beds at home. When your mom said, “You can’t get stuck in nostalgia, because you never move on, you never move forward and life seems stalled”, I literally started crying because it is so very true. Those words resonated deep for me. With what I’m personally going through a career change is very hard, but you need to move forward for change to start happening. Your mom’s amazing and you never know when words can really encourage and change others. Thank you!
I fell in my front yard going to water my huge flower beds and fell and broke my hip. No phone, husband in the house and air on. He went back out to his truck as he left his cell phone in it and heard me yelling for help. I was determined to get back up and tried for 40 minutes until I figured out I couldn't get back up. Ambulance and surgery with pins to put me together. I hope your mom heals completely and quickly. Love see you guys together. Makes me miss my mom more but what wonderful memories.
Oh my word!! and you broke something!! I fell last year outside checking on a feral cat, and it was a foot of snow on ground and long story but I actually rolled under the bed of the trailer when I hit something by the truck and tripped and could not get purchase to get back up, ended up out there for a half hour and finally was able to get my little cell phone out and called someone (both kids work at the Police dept and they sent someone for a "lift assist") but I was able to roll across yard to get to bottom step and that was it, legs were just frozen from the wet and snow, and it did a number on both my knee's and legs and a sore shoulder, but I am fine and now just try to be more vigilant and dont take chances if I dont have too! I am totally incredulous on how fast it can happen.
That was the most charming encounter ever, listening to you and your mom talk and finding out all this information that makes you who you are. Brilliant!
How blessed you are to have your mother. Y’all remind me of my mother and me. She was killed way too early by a tractor trailer. But we spent every day together planting and taking care of her flowers, veggies, etc. now I’m alone, but I still try to do the best I can planting. God Bless y’all! Thank you for being there for me. You’re part of my family!
I am really enjoying this Q&A I'm a florist and love to garden but which I had a perfect yard and soil, unfortunately we just rent. But I have dreams of what I would love. Totally enjoy your youtube always Learning something!! Thanks Grace
I could happily listen to this as a regular pod cast! Laura’s Mom… I hope you don’t mind so many of us look at you as a maternal stand in for those of us who don’t have Mothers any more, or never had that relationship with our own. Such a wise, gentle and peaceful soul.
Laura your Mom is an absolute delight, many could only wish for someone like her in there lives. She is so reassuring, warm, and has an awesome sense of humor and perspective!! Much props to her and I wish her a speedy recovery. Looking forward to Part 2 and one with your Dad!
Your mother is adorable! Gentle, loving, knowledgeable and so feminine & soft spoken. Love LOVE LOVE! It would be wonderful to do this Q & A on the regular!!
This chat was watching two best friends catching up with each other- such a delight to wittiness the genuine love between Mom and Daughter. Thank you Laura and Mom for coming together and bring this special moment of this memorable gift to us- I’ve always thought I knew the both of you but,now I can honestly say I have more of a feel for the administration your ladies share - thanks again and Stay vigilant ✨🤍🙏🏼
Loved this! Everyone should take the time to get to know their parents as people and learn more about their younger days. You might be surprised. My mother rode with me on a 3 day, cross country move and it is one of my favorite memories. Just me and Mom. No siblings, no interruptions. Just awesome.
So much of what Susan said in her answers resonated with me. From raising children to moving on with your life. In 2003 we decided to move to France from England as a family, it was the best decision we ever made. We have had the best experiences and have made two lovely gardens, one in a old farm property , where we learnt a lot and made mistakes. Now in our retirement property, a new evolving garden helped and guided by Laura’s advise. At 67 yrs young I hope to have a good 20 yrs here enjoying my gardening and seeing my boys thrive as adults.
I don't even care what the question is. I just want to listen to your mum talk. She has such a soothing voice and an angelic persona. You are so blessed to be born to her :)
What a delightful video! Susan, I had the honor of meeting and chatting with you at Andrew’s in June (during the customer appreciation sale) when I was on my way home to San Jose. Loved learning that you lived in California & still visit an uncle here. You were busy but kindly stood and talked with me. I didn’t want to take up your time during work but there was so many things I wanted to tell you such as how I LOVE your garden, your “dove” fountain is the prettiest I have ever seen, I adore your family and I think Benjamin looks like YOU! I bought my first pair of Felcos and two beautiful “stormy sky” day lilies that I treasure! I am thrilled to say they made the trip home in our back seat and are doing well in my garden❣️❣️🥰And BTW, we had a nice lunch at Belly Busters so I know the building you guys spoke of! SO fun to have been there! Thank you for all of the inspiration you instill. If our car weren’t so full we would have gone home with many more items!!!
Was that Aaron trying not a laugh out loud when Susan talked about her bone density? She said it with so much passion! Thank you Laura for this awesome video! Your mom is the sweetest person.
Your mom’s name is Susan! Did anyone else yell really?!? Hahaha. So funny. We just always think of her as “Mom”. Love that you were able to do this with her! I hope this becomes a regular thing. 😊🌸
I'm 57 handicap woman and have just fell in love with PW . HUBBY AND I are going to garden crossing for event next June. After 6 times in hospital this year has brought life back to me. Thank you
I came thru your town on my way to pick up a dog, and just HAD to find & visit Andrews. I stopped & called & they gave me good directions over the phone. when I walked in & headed outside, BOOM - there was your mom on the forklift & I just grabbed a photo & apologized because I felt like I knew her!! anyway, everyone was fantastic & my potatoes are doing very well!🥰
I absolutely adore Laura's Mom! Listening to her talk in her peaceful, sweet voice is so enjoyable! I imagine she is a great storyteller for her children and grandchildren! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Susan, I love that you said you are ok with being called Laura’s Mom. I have one child in college and one moving away to start her PhD. Being Mom is somehow more special now. Prayers for a full recovery and sympathy for having to sit still so long. Everyone had such great questions. This was a great idea that will be so much fun to look back on in years to come. The only thing missing were the cocktails!
I ran across this video & very much enjoyed everything about it. I moved from my 50 year home after my husband’s recent death & have a blank slate for what I’d like to do to make my new home my own & give it some color. Thanks for all the gardening comments, but mostly for reminding me that the simplest things can add peace & calm to your life! Thanks so much
OMG...I am so glad it wasn't too serious with your Mom. I too just recently went through a similar scenario with my father. He was out feeding the hummingbirds and fell, was out in 106 degree temps for two hours. He also didn't have his cell phone, but the neighbor heard him yelling. Unfortunately he passed and will always appreciate his love for the outside and the birds. My best wishes for you and your Mom, don't take any time with your Mom for granted! Cherish the moments!
Oh my goodness, that is hard to hear about him being outside for so long.....and my sympathy on your Fathers passing, hope he had a gentle journey to the other side.
I’m not even halfway through watching and this may be my favorite video yet! Love listening to the two of you talk gardens and life! I could watch this all day! Thank you! What a treat! ❤️🥰
You and your mom are too cute together. The whole time I'm watching how you two feed off each other, it was like watching two best friends having a great visit. Your mother is so insightful and inspirational. It's easy to see where you received your positive attitude. Thank her for answering everyone's questions.
We stopped at Andrews on our way back home from Portland OR to Vernal UT, it was like going to this secret place, we didn’t have the fortune to see Laura or Susan but I love it (my husband didn’t understand my excitement) 😀
Oh my goodness! When your mom started talking about posts or sticks to hold onto!! I just told my husband last weekend that I need those! I had a left-over post in the ground from last year's sunflowers and I used it to hold onto while weeding and planting seeds. I am so glad I am not the only one! This was such a lovely video! Thank you!

Your mom is such a sweet soul with an enormous amount of wisdom. She really needs her own channel or even reoccurring videos on Garden Answer where people can ask questions and she shares her knowledge and wisdom. Not everyone is as lucky as Laura to have such a wonderful, caring, positive mother in their lives. I am sure her videos would do amazing!!
Oh my goodness! I used to love your mother but now I ADORE her! The story of her watering her neighbor's 'oasis,' and the stories of her early life and early family life were delicious. She's a wonderful storyteller and very entertaining. Thank you for giving us the delightful chance to get to know her a little better. Wishing her a rapid and perfect healing, because we need some more antiquing jaunts in future!
I really appreciated your mom saying it's the feel of the garden, not just the pretty and formal things. You can't get stuck in nostalgia, you have to be brave, that was profound. Thank you Laura's mom!

“They’re never done” as a life lesson from the garden..brought tears to my eyes for some reason. Loved this, thank you for sharing your Mom with us 😊
I heard once that a true artist's masterpiece is never done. 💕
Our canvas is organic and always evolving.
Oh my goodness, I love gardening, but the pearls of wisdom sprinkled throughout this video are amazing!
This video will be an absolute treasure to Laura’s grandchildren some day. 💛
you and your mother are so sweet together, what a beautiful friendship❤❤❤🥰
That was the most charming encounter ever, listening to you and your mom talk and finding out all this information that makes you who you are. Brilliant!
Laura "Well I can help you spend your money" Laura's mom "Oh, I love that"😂 They are so cute together💜
I'm so sorry for your loss Angie! I don't know what I'm going to do when my mom goes.. I cherish every second I get with her!
I'm sorry for the loss of your Mom; your best friend.
Susan would tell you to be brave.
Good and sound advice.
I'll take it too!
Sorry for your tragic loss of your Dear Mother.🙏
I am really enjoying this Q&A I'm a florist and love to garden but which I had a perfect yard and soil, unfortunately we just rent.
But I have dreams of what I would love. Totally enjoy your youtube always Learning something!! Thanks Grace
THANK YOU, BOTH ! That was such a good idea! Your Mother has a wonderful personality and is SO sweet natured!
Sure hope she heals up soon!
I could happily listen to this as a regular pod cast!
Laura’s Mom… I hope you don’t mind so many of us look at you as a maternal stand in for those of us who don’t have Mothers any more, or never had that relationship with our own.
Such a wise, gentle and peaceful soul.
I am absolutely loving this episode. Such sweet conversation and memories, as well as, thoughtful knowledge. ❤️
I love that "you can't get stuck in nostalgia". That statement is so profound and relatable to many aspects in life. Beautiful ❤
To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your lives
I regularly hear your Mom in my head saying, “Elevate the Ordinary.” She has been quite the blessing!
Mom is so relaxed in front of the camera. Her soul takes me. You can tell she is an angel.
Ohhh this is wonderful! I love getting Susan's thoughts and memories. It's like having coffee with you guys! Please do this more often!
@Kuma-----👇💋 Get your filth somewhere else. I reported you to UA-cam.
Absolutely lovely. This made my evening. Thank you for sharing a genuine conversation with your mother about real topics that resonate with us all.
Susan is an inspiring lady!
My favorite saying, “Romance the ordinary!”
I repeat that often and apply it in my life.
Was that Aaron trying not a laugh out loud when Susan talked about her bone density? She said it with so much passion! Thank you Laura for this awesome video! Your mom is the sweetest person.
I was thinking the same thing! But I replayed it a few times and now I’m thinking it was a bird in the background.
Your mom’s name is Susan! Did anyone else yell really?!? Hahaha. So funny. We just always think of her as “Mom”. Love that you were able to do this with her! I hope this becomes a regular thing. 😊🌸
I actually never even thought about what her name was!
I stopped & called & they gave me good directions over the phone. when I walked in & headed outside, BOOM - there was your mom on the forklift & I just grabbed a photo & apologized because I felt like I knew her!!
anyway, everyone was fantastic & my potatoes are doing very well!🥰
Good morning to all the early birds with coffee in their hands and Garden answer to start today ☺️
Good morning! ☀️ Have a wonderful day! 💐🌷✨
Top of the morning to you as well!⚘️🌷
I absolutely adore Laura's Mom!
Thanks so much
This was one of my most favorite videos yet! Got to love hearing about those lovely memories from Mom!
Laura you are blessed with such a wonderful Mom. So thankful she sat down for the Q&A. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
Susan is so lovely and poised! I so enjoy your time together… so sweet! 🙂
I’ve been on the fence regarding a smart watch but now I’m convinced. I appreciate your mom spending time with us. She is such a treasure.
Me too! I was actually looking at them yesterday. I’m 63 and am alone most of the time.
Has anyone else watched this video more than once? 😄 Lots of words of wisdom from mom!
Yes!! Absolutely!!💯🤗❤
Today is my second time. These two are so creative. Love to listen to life lessons.
I’m not even halfway through watching and this may be my favorite video yet! Love listening to the two of you talk gardens and life! I could watch this all day! Thank you! What a treat! ❤️🥰
Life has its seasons, and I appreciated Susan loving the season she and her family are in right now. Wonderful video!
I loved this video! Your mom is just the best, she's an example of the mom I want to be for my daughter. 💖
You and your mom are too cute together. The whole time I'm watching how you two feed off each other, it was like watching two best friends having a great visit. You need to do more videos with your mom. She is smart and filled with good wisdom. I totally enjoyed this video and love your relationship, it made my morning.
The video I know we have all been waiting for!🪴Your mom is such a sweet soul and I am excited to be able to listen and learn from her. Wishing her a speedy recovery and a big thanks for this video 🥰
I loved this video. My Mom is in South Africa and we live in Canada, your video brought back such good memories of time spent together. We both love gardening and used to tour each others gardens at least one’s a week. I miss that so much. Thank you for taking me back in time.
I hope you get to see your mom soon and check out her garden 🪴
This is such a beautiful video. I am so sorry that her accident grounded her, but it brought this sweet conversation between two people that love each other. This was a wonderful break from the outside world. Thank you for letting us be a part of your beautiful family.
Your mom's voice is so calming .
I wonder if she was always so calm and cool when her children were younger 😁
I was looking forward to this interview ... your Mom's beauty shines brightly.
Thank you!
I use old metal tiki torches as handholds in my garden. Keeps me steady and upright at 78!.
Love this conversation….Susan is a special Lady 🌻 makes me miss my Mom even more ♥️
What a genuinely lovely Mom you’ve got. We need more of these positive people in the world. Cute and informative Q&A too 🥬🥒🥦you can’t beat longterm experience. Greetings from Berlin 🙋🏻♂️
I started watching your videos last year and I was really sad my son moved out , some how I come across your video with your mom and it just give me comfort and been watching since specially you and your moms video also you and your son cooking videos it just reminds me family always together no matter where they are so thank you 🙏🏼
"You can't get stuck in nostalgia.. you have to be brave".... So profound.... I have to move to a new place and was hesitating and this statement helped me make my decision...
Everything about your mom is beautiful!
I laugh so much when you and your Mom are together; especially when you’re out shopping! Love your relationship.
