Hi Jason I just learned this scale from a Brendan Power video who called it The Arabic scale. He showed it in 1st position. 1 blow, 1 draw full step bend, 2 blow, 2 draw full step bend, 2 draw or 3 blow, 3 draw step and a half bend, 3 draw, 4 blow. Then blow 4, bend draw 4, blow 5, draw 5, blow 6, bend 6 draw, draw 7, blow 7--from there on the top--best let you explain! But, it makes sense to float in and out with it like you do. Whatever anyone calls --Curtis called it something else the other day--it sure is way cool. About the last comment I made hearing you all play underneath your custom harps video it brought back memories of Rod Pizza and Bacon Fat in the late '70's. He had still has I hope that crazy deeper than deep sound on the harp getting around effortlessly playing fast. And, believe Hollywood Fats was in the band reminding me of your guitar player handling the change over in solos not missing a beat. Like a true pro. But, one major difference is that he almost sounded like a Little Walter record--almost too much for me anyway. With all do respect. And, unlike yourself back then many harp players kept their secrets to themselves. I was lucky with Curtis Salgado, Mark Hummel, and Rick Estrin. They taught me alot. And, Johnny Woods in Mississippi had a sound I wanted to chase after. And, was very cool to hang with though sadly the alcohol thing really affected his playing. Anyway I don't usually comment so much, but wanted to say this: For 45 years I've been listening and learning from all kinds of different harp players including really turning pro through especially Curtis' teachings. He, Rick Estrin, Mark Hummell, and some others are definently riding their harp up in the stratosphere, but in the relatively small amount of playing I've heard from you I've never seen anyone do what you do. And, combine understandable lessons as well. I know you've heard all this before. But, just wanted to tell you as well. 🌒
@@jasonricci I have a good friend in New Orleans who's family owned The Columns Hotel on St. Charles for years. This is SUCH a beautifully haunting scale. Very Middle Eastern sounding. Just having some difficulty with the overblows and it's VERY annoying. I can do most of the #10 hole overblows on all of my Harmonicas but still practicing and trying to find the "sweet spots " to get that #6 overblow & #7 overdraw~ Give us more Gypsy Music lessons Jason, you are a Master of the Minor Pentatonic Scale in this Harmonica centered world we who love to play this instrument exist in.💥💡🎶🤙🏽♥️🌛❗️
@@jasonricci Yes, however that's not what I'm aiming for, you know what I mean. I am sincerely trying to learn and practicing so that I can play those other overblows and overdraws. Thanks for the tip though ~💡♥️🎶🤖
so this is played on normal A major, and. C major. harps ? i mean, it takes time to reach that overblow and draw bend. technic. ? how would this sound on harmonic minor tuned harmonicas? would it give even you, jason, more flexibility and speed?
Yes just mormal harps ...Definitely would give me more speed to play it on a tuned harp BUT every time you tune a harp for one thing it loses its ability to do something else... Not All songs need/ want one scale/tuning/key throughout... End up buying 300 tuned harps and STILL switching mid song...
@@jasonricci true. but the gypsie chords available on the harmonic minor tuned ones, is , i guess , a great benefit. curious: could it be possible to bend from harmonic minor to other more common scales?
Hi Jason, thanks so much for the lesson! I am trying to get my head round music theory in order to play more consciously. Funny that you're playing Blue Drag at the end because my piano-playing friend and I recorded this tune about a year ago and this is how our band The Blue Drags started! :) Feel free to check it out - it is a featured video on my profile. May God and/or the Universe bless you!!!
Hi Jason, another great lesson and some super cool playing at the end. Thank you! At about 12:30 you mention the 4B being the root of IV. Did you mean 4th of IV in 3rd (and root of IV in 2nd)? I'm definitely not nitpicking - I just want to make sure I'm not misunderstanding what you're explaining at that point as I'm just trying to learn more about the theory side of things at the moment. Hopefully this hasn't come up previously in another comment either. Also you state double bend on the 3D, then later triple, which may confuse some people. On another note; your new album - Approved by Snakes. Is it still due for release on itunes tomorrow June 16? Thanks again, stay well. JC
Chevy!!!! MY MAN!!!! Yes I DID mean the 4th of IV in 3rd and/or the root of IV in 2nd I think I said it the "wrong way"/"Harmonica Way" because I sometimes look at that chord simply as 2nd position...Thanks for the other tip too...I'm always messing up thanks for keeping me humble and honest! Great Catch!!! You Rule and YES the new record is OUT!
When you can play the scale well and understand the nuances and how each note works with different chords/changes: send me a video ... I will make you another version, JUST for you roop298 with no pontificating at all! Deal?
Hey Jason I edited my last comment because the information I was giving you was wrong. I think you're playing the same scale and of course beginning on the 1st draw for 3rd the notes are on different holes than on 1st position. Pretty lame. Long night and morning and gonna be a long day.
@@jasonricci This last year I've put alotta time into playing 3rd position minor. Though I used to play a jump song in 3rd that is in a major key, but anyway I learned 4th, and 5th positions accidently just by taking each note like 1 - 4 blow and working the minor scale anyway it worked so now I've got 4th, and 5th position so far. But, with all those notes to remember where they are on the harp it can get confusing like what happened earlier today. Playing scales on harp gets translated to playing them on guitar, and piano all of it leading to me being a better player with more choices.

Yes Richard Sleigh has the best one. But remember it's always the harmonica key that is a whole step BELOW the key of the band.
