It feels criminal to even try to write a comment saying how... insane... that was. There simply exists no sentence nor paragraph nor anything else to describe just HOW FREAKIN GOOD THAT WAS!!! Thanks (and far, far more besides) for being such an inspiration Jason. Had my first gig 2 days ago and, because of you, it went bloody well - even the fast bits!
I'm utterly gob smacked. How much higher can the bar be set for the rest of us mere mortals. Sending the link to all my buddies. Thank you so much Jason for everything you so freely share.
Well, now I know what to say when I tell somebody that I play harmonica and they ask, as they always do, "Do you play anything else?" I'll just point them at this video and say "I don't, but I've got a friend who does. Watch this." Hah!
Very kind and humble of you Adam. One of the traits of a truly honest, supportive and talented musician who doesn't need to put someone else down to lift himself up. The friendship that you and Jason share, as well as an obviously equal admiration of each other's talents is easy to see and hear.
What the ..what what ..I kept envisioning a Black and white video with YOU walking through a park during a Hurricane. Debris blowing past you as you fight the powers of Mother Nature. You fight through all that tension and come to that resolve at the end of the video.. You smile as you look into the camera. The Black and white footage turns High definition cinematic color. The Sun comes out last few seconds as you walk away combing your hair back as if all along you knew..... I got this Ain’t Nothing But a Thing !!! Thanks.
This video just popped up on UA-cam, Wow , man I'm blown away by this...what a fantastic tribute, I'm going nuts over your playing, freaking awesome Jason 👌. Fantastic chops. Best harp player in the world.. what a privilege to see you play..outta sight.🙏❤️🙏❤️
Incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!! I'm a big fan and I just heard this video for the first time browsing Blue Moon Harmonicas website. I'm blown away, so so good. Wow, that was an experience.
My friend revealed you and your musical art to me about five years ago. I've followed and revered Jaco since college (Weather Report, Joni Mitchell and other stuff). I would say that in terms of musical power, genius and commitment, YOU TWO SHARE EQUAL FOOTING. The blessing is that you're here in the living realm still.
It's in the ear and eye of the beholder, Jason. Okay, your humility is notable, but don't let that inner part of your spirit think that there isn't plenty of it that is valid. Your energy, creativity, nuance and innovation on your instrument is in very short company, globally. I showed one of your videos to a friend who doesn't even know harmonica, and he said "That motherfucker's putting in a 30-hour day on that horn." Says quite a bit about it. You would get a similar quote from Jaco if he were around in the body. Hell, maybe the way he IS still around is within musical conduits like you. I don't believe in coincidences and I truly believe that veins and fractions and vibes of spirit from those we call "gone" are in the air for us and even directed to us when our light beckons such. You may not have thought of Jaco and seen the video for nothing, and I guarantee you that, regardless of whether science can show a pathway or not, he is "in you" big-time right now. Don't say he ain't.
Extraordinary Jason. Everytime I see you playing I think "I got to practice more, and more wisely". What an inspiration. All the best for you, mate. Cheers from Brazil.
After watching and listening to you share your talents so selflessly for three years since I became aware of you Jason, you are finally hanging your hat if only for one night, in my sleepy town of Chas. WV. Can't wait to have my ass kicked by you and your band. Looking forward to it brother.
HOLLY SMOKE AND MEOW!!! This is just insane!! Jason you never stop blowing my mind! This is just flooring me.I just found this today and I can't stop listing... I am a complete beginner again now! THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU SHARE AND ALL YOUR INSPIRATION!!!!!
Badass stuff! Just as you are proof of how dynamic a harp can be, Jaco and all the top Philly area bass players changed their instrument for the better. You are to harp what they are to the bass, and this is coming from a borderline blues nazi. I've always loved jazz though. The list of Philly Bass greats is about the most extensive of any city in the world: Jaco (was in Florida a lot too), Stanley Clarke, Tony "TNT" Jones (my personal favorite), Gerald Veasley, Christian McBride, Percy Heath, Victor Bailey, Jamaladeen Tacuma, Art Davis, Jimmy Garrison, Reggie Workman, Charlie Biddle, and Jymie Merritt to name a few. Hey Jason Ricci, you should do a tribute to one of the Philly sax greats next. Philly probably has the best pedigree for that too, though we of course did not have Charlie Parker or Cannonball. Philly guys were John Coltrane, Dizzie Gillespie, Grover Washington Jr, Benny Golson, Bootsie Barnes, Sonny Fortune, and Larry McKenna. Those two are definitely the instruments Philly is most famous for, other than having the best orchestra in the world at one time under Leopold Stokowski and Eugene Ormandy where they actually backed Rachmaninoff and later played the music in Fantasia.
Ooh Man Intensities in ten cities holy gonzo wtf Jason that was insane Bro I'm for sure gonna by like You when I grow the hell up Frking Amazing I wish I never saw it now I'm gonna hate myself aye jk it's something to strive towards U Fucking Kill it Moon Cat ur still My Hero
Hmmmm….Jason, if you practiced a bit more, you might become as good as Green in the original “Harmonica of Doom” video here: ua-cam.com/video/2tU1cio_MVc/v-deo.html Careful all, if you don’t practice the Penguin will crush you!
MAN! I love this! You are the cat that should be pushing diatonic harp as a jazz instrument... not that other dude known so well for overblowing (his personality.... chafes my brain... I dont care how fucking proficient someone is on their chosen axe - I dont care if they have broken ground in the art form.... inauthentic people make me want jam shrimp forks in my ears). Its funny - back in the 90s, when I moved on to the bass from Harp - I of course, became Jaco obsessed! I as a bassist and a person who had been diagnosed with BP (mis-diagnosed by shitty shrinks out for fast cash in the 80s) I could relate to his story on a lot of levels. If you havent checked it out yet you MUST! ua-cam.com/video/lHoywjiNxQ8/v-deo.html This is Jaco at his most raw. Check the whole thing - I have always loved the power trio configuration....
Jason Ricci it’s punk as fuck! And Hiram on guitar! That’s the shit I moved to NYC for, granted I showed up a few years to late. Ended up playing garage rock and backing up singer songwriters.....
