Sounds amazing through the mic with the pedal… very trumpet like. This is a great lesson to learn from musically; we can imply a chord as long as we land on a note of the major triad (1,3 or 5). Great stuff
@@jasonricci do you have any suggestions for throat vibrato??? I’m trying everything I can think of and the only way I can get vibrato is by pulsing the back of my tongue quickly.
Thank you darling! When I practice what you preach I warp up a level - Please know that there are thousands of invisible people like me who appreciate you SO much!
To me this lesson is a game changer to the way i play. I already felt there was something going on with those bends, but needed confirmation. Many thanks
I often step away from the 12 step blues thing but when I come back to it it’s kinda like starting over with the theory aspect of the harp and that’s a good thing because the door reopens. Thanks for propping the door for me, love what’s on the other side !
Thanks Heaps Mate! you are so generous putting this stuff up for all to use, and in this case it was the right lesson at the right time. Been working on 3 draw bends for 3rd position, and this just adds and adds. Well done!
This lesson is awesome. So many lessons out there on the theory of the 12 bar and none on how to play something on the other 3 beats of each bar. Speaking in tongues. Love it. Also continued strength on your sobriety and living with BPD. I live with PTSD and harmonica helps in a meditative way. Your great lessons should help with my playing so maybe everyone won't run for earplugs when I start drawing and breathing. LOL
Hey Jason, I'd like to thank you today for your great videos. I picked up harps almost a year ago (after playing sax and bass for decades) and I can say that I'm doing a quite decent job already including bends and overblows, which significantly is so because of you and your vids! It's such a great instrument that can just sit in your pocket everywhere u go ready to play the blues (and other stuff too)! Keep it up, brother! Cheers from Germany, Alex
wow. this is great. I can't do overblows yet. Or maybe I could. I have to focus on getting my regular bends to sound good but wanted to have the option to play more jazzy. This is what I wanted! Thanks Jason.
Jason, thanks for keeping the 15 seconds or so when two of your harps were jammed (stuck reeds or gaps were too small). This has happened to me occasionally during gigs and it's frustrating but all part of the game. Great video and i loved the short and fast runs during your laid back solos.
damn that's nice every once in awhile I play with some jazz horn players I can't play like that but now you've given me some ideas how to start down that road thank you 4 Great Jason you are awesome
Killer lesson Jason, thanks for uploading. I especially like the idea of "approach notes," it's something I do all the time on guitar, but neglect to try on the harmonica. I bought a Manji in C after watching your vids, I'm still using a Special 20 in A though.
I absolutely LOVE these kinds of lessons. I'm one of those players who often gets trapped in my desire to play the whole harp every time, so I really benefit from instruction that helps me milk what Ronnie Shellist calls the pocket. The funny thing is, I already knew how to play those notes. Why didn't this ever occur to me? Thanks for showing me what's been under my nose for years. That said, do you have any "go to" licks for building speed? I'd love to learn a few of your, "When I play fast, I almost always end up doing this," tricks? I know you've said that many of your fast moves are actually really simple. It would be nice to add a few to my own repertoire. I really like the idea of doing one really simple 3 Draw verse of solo followed by...lightning. Please.
and i never will miss one . youve helped me more than you know over the past couple years on and off the harp ,pulled me out of deep spot and i credit you for helping me find my way up and out . and thats real talk much love .
Your video on Hooker in heat inspired me to pickup the harp 2 years ago (at age 58), and i'm pretty good now being able to play a good boogie and simple blues. Thanks !
I must have watched this lesson 10 times! Each run through, my bends get tighter and my tone richer. But when I try and turn it up a notch... well, it sounds like Jason's playing from 14:20. Great lesson, thank you Mr Ricci!
I don't understand why I can't make the 3 hole sound right, no matter what I do. All the others sound fine, but never figured out #3. I have tons of different harps, so it's not broken. I just don't get it.
hi Jason, can I buy a C harp from you, a while back I thought you were selling your own brand of harps, if not my mistake, what do you recommend, your fan, jim
It probably is! But if you set the action/offset on that whole and maybe put a little reed curvarture on both the draw and blow reeds it should bend a little easier. Also as you get better5 at overblows naturally bending them becomes a little easier!
I can't begin to tell you how helpful this is.
Great news!!!

That is one intelligent lesson! Maybe the best and simplest way to learn how to improvise blues on any instrument!
Thanks Jason!

Great Video, but the one thing I can't get past is how BADASS that shirt is! Where did you get that?
An awesome fan gave me that!

Hi Jason, is it a custom harmonica you are using ?i just Wonder as i can't bend the 6 overblow and put vibrato the Way you do
It probably is! But if you set the action/offset on that whole and maybe put a little reed curvarture on both the draw and blow reeds it should bend a little easier. Also as you get better5 at overblows naturally bending them becomes a little easier!
hey Jason, don't laugh but I understood what you said when you spoke in tongues
