Echoing the others but this is an impressive display of cooking skill and temperature management. You made it look easy but it's certainly not. Kudos!
Well I appreciate that.....
I bought one of these Weber inserts back in June for the 3 burner version of the grill. It's phenomenal and rivals anything I've seen on a Blackstone. There are only two of us so we can't justify a separate unit, the storage space/moving it around for the winter, deck space, etc., so this was an attractive option for occasional use. The 3-burner version is only 30 pounds, so, we just pull it off, and store it away when not in use. (Adding the Weber storage bag to our Christmas list, that is, unless Weber wants to send me one to try it for review LOL.)
The cold-rolled carbon steel is impressive. It holds it season well. Its temperature control is great. It's exceeded our expectations by miles, and, thusly, it gets used more than I ever planned on using it.
My one reservation was, and is, the grease trap, just like you. We noticed that if we don't do a good clean/burn after using the griddle with greasy foods like sausage, the next time we grill something like skin-on chicken, we'll have grease fires galore down in the grease drip tray. I just monitor the drip tray, and the disposable catch pan underneath it, and all seems to be well.
With just a little more TLC than a Blackstone when it comes to the grease/liquid, it's just fine. I love it. Kudos to Weber for making something common sensical for our limited use.
You've become my goto favorite YT channel since I've made this purchase. Thank you!!! (And thank you for serving our country!)
Hey I appreciate giving your thoughts/experience...thank you...
Thank you for doing this! Can't wait to see this progress
I love your videos! It’s great to watch your interactions with your family! You keep it real and fun! Love it!!
Thank you so much!
Great cook Neal! That insert is very impressive. Plus you have a functional hood. I’ve got to check that griddle out. Loved hearing your dad commenting in the background! That’s what Dads do! Cheers buddy!
Right on Thanks Jay....
Tick tick.....BOOM!! Another amazing breakfast. If you ever open a diner, I am SO there.
I admire the way you show your mistakes so that your viewers can learn along with you. Most UA-camrs would edit them out. I recommended you to a friend the other day who is just learning to use a flat top. I told him, this guy really is the flat top king and he doesn't just show great recipes, he also teaches.
Well James..I truly appreciate that...really do..thank you
I agree wholeheartedly
@@Damethefirst thank you
Coincidentally got this griddle insert for this last Father’s Day as I didn’t have space for another standalone unit. Have been very pleased so far and your review is validating! Good show and love the channel! 👍👍
TY
Super job Neal! I agree with you also, that griddle insert is unbelievable! Everything looked amazing. Hopefully more cooks to come! Cheers brother 🍻
Yes sir...cheers
I really enjoy watching your videos. You are a wealth of information and I enjoy listening to you and your wife. Thank you for the good work and please keep it coming!
TY
Neal. I had the same grease tray mishap that you did on my first griddle cook. I love the insert for my Weber Spirit.
Have you actually found any bigger options..i am currently looking..
Just looked like fun that’s fun, looks lik you covered all areas , love the eggsyouse are doing
Great job Neal 👍🏽 . Everything looks delicious. Really like your Menu. Nice video Neal with a great review on the grill.
Awesome thank you!
Another great video. I have run into the same problem with the grease trap and have gotten into the habit of make sure it's pushed forward before I start the grill. It really is the best of both worlds
TY
Enjoyed the video...I bought the full griddle and half griddle insert for my Weber Genesis. Like you said, its a great bang for your buck to have a grill and griddle in one.
loving mine for sure...
Thanks for the video, fantastic channel! Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for the kind words
I bought my griddle insert back in June and been extremely happy and impressed. Cooked a big breakfast for everyone the day after Thanksgiving and they loved it. I've cooked fajitas, philly cheese steaks, smash burgers, you name it.
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing...
Thanks for inviting us for breakfast! ❤ Weber products.
Beautifully done king. Enjoy the breakfast.
TY
The man can cook and teach. I’ll say Weber engineers subscribe and put thought into the griddle insert design. If I was in the market this rig would be in my cart.
Thank YOU!
Nice video! My wife just bought this setup for father's day, I can't wait to get it put together and start cooking on it now. I'm glad she got the full insert instead of the smaller one. Especially with a large family.
Hey thats awesome....hope you enjoy...i sure do
This video of your breakfast cook reinforced my decision to get this griddle insert. It arrives later today. May have to do a big breakfast cook this weekend. Love your videos.
Good choice...thank you
Great video brother. When I only had a gas grill I used cast iron and a stainless steel thing called “the little griddle”. Never had any complaints so it makes sense that this works so well
Thanks Kelly...man this is a nice one....
Great vid!
That was one heck of a breakfast!
Dude, you are a pro cook. Griddle is awesome, yes, but your ability to do so many things WELL at once is what blew me away.
That all looks amazing. How bout a shout to your griddle/ spatula skill. It's an art an joy to watch.
Thank you Robert...
Awesome! You make it look so easy! What a great grill!
Ty...really enjoyed that
Have this insert since May, it is fantastic. I’m a novice at griddle cooking but have made dozens of meals, from breakfast to smash burgers, all turned out fine to outstanding. The Weber grill temperature control makes controlling the griddle easy. No flare ups for me. The best thing is I don’t need two outdoor cooking systems…worth it!!
Great to hear!
@@TheFlatTopKing your skills are admirable! Learning a lot.
Great cook Neal and Amy...grill insert is really impressive..But as one listener said , you make it so easy..Go VOLS
GBO>.....
Great cook Neil! Next level cooking skills there. We were on the road in our RV for three months and decided to get the Blackstone single burner griddle. I have cooked around 15 meals on it and it's has been fantastic! I was thinking about replacing our Webber grill when we get home with a Blackstone ! Then last night as I was cooking Hot Polish Saucages it dawned on me! Why doesn't Weber have a Griddle insert? So I checked and they have one. This a game changer for me! ! You've saved me a bunch of bucks and space!! Thanks again Neil!
Hey thats great...still today I absolutely love the combo....truly...
Looks like you found a new favorite. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks! Will do!
Well done!
Thank you...
Awesome vid! Yet another reason this channel rocks! All your vids lead to you showcasing something like this if it came out 'cause it makes sense. One big breakfast done with one outdoor tool that folks have done for years on a stove top with an oven. Right now, I'm doing it outdoors with my 4-burner grill and my 2-burner griddle, because it sucked doing it on just a griddle. I don't even bother if it's windy or below 50F out. The grill is a perfect simple baker, cast iron pan heater, general warmer for everything: a hood, gauge, reliable temp control. It rocks doing "reverse-sears" on steak while griddling up sides and such (That's a "Meh" technique, IMHO). I stumbled on that combo part from frustration with my griddle and inspiration from some of your smoker/grill and griddle combinations. Again, thanks and keep rocking!
Hey I appreciate that....cheers bud
I just picked this bad boy up. Can't wait to start cooking
I just subscribed today. My wife bought me a 36” blackstone for an early anniversary present and you have some great videos on learning how to use it and recipe ideas. I’m hoping to master smash burgers.
Hey I appreciate that...cheers
I have an older Genesis II. Didn't want to drop Weber money on a griddle insert so I went with the Stanbroil SS insert at half the price. Looking forward to checking out more of your content as I learn my way around this griddle insert.
Griddle insert and gas combo. I’m sold. Getting one ASAP. 2 grills in one!
hey thats great...this Sundays upload uses this griddle...
I'll be right over! great job!
Hey bro, I have an insert for my grill also! Love it! Thanks for that killer tutorial🔥🔥
Awesome...thank you...
I think you say it the way it is. Anyone looking to buy should take your opinion to heart. Makin smash burgers tonite. Go Navy.
Go Navy....
That breakfast looking good👍🏽❤
Thank you
Fantastic review, Neil! Decision made. I have that exact Weber Grill. $300 more for the griddle insert and I don't have to drop 1K to get Traeger Flatrock quality. Plus, I can use the lid. Will order the griddle accessory tomorrow. Thank you!
Heck yeah...appreciate that....
So it goes low? I like it. That’s impressive!! That may be the best cooking griddle.
Have to admit...so far so good....
I did the same thing with the grease tray the first time I used the grill.
Great review and awesome looking breakfast! This is VERY timely for me as I’m deciding on a first griddle and considering a combo grill/griddle to save space vs a dedicated griddle. I’d love to see you do a combo shootout with this setup, the Camp Chef, and the Grilla Grills Primate where you test both the grill and griddle. Love your channel and just joined the Facebook group too. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! And thank your camera person too! Y’all make a great team!
Appreciate ya.....thanks James
Just placed the order for this griddle inser for my genesis because of this video. Thanks
Fantastic!
Genesis burners are rectangular and taper toward the back. This makes for even heat front to back. Burner ports are stamped with upward facing dimples. This allows better air mixing and hence flame is happy. Dont block the airgaps around griddle to maintain good exhaust.
Awesome video and a great accessory from Weber!! Only slight down sides I could see(small ones) where the slots in the front putting out some real heat. Also when you measured the depth of the stand along griddle that insert was 4” shorter. Where I noticed the slight problem was when you where flipping the hash browns. Didn’t seem like enough room to manipulate the spatula (from to back). Other than that great accessory option for a gasser! Also your user error of grease management is priceless information to the next person when using it, great content leaving it in the editing!!
Thank you...
Thanks for the reply
No worries
You know, there's a Grilla Grillz Primate that I was initially considering that's designed like this. Looks like an excellent gas grill and a griddle. Pricey though, but it looks very quality.
Fantastic
I must admit, that's a mighty nice grill that Weber sent you. I might just have to look into that setup myself!!
Like I have mentioned many many times...i have no bones in the fight..I am not paid nor sponsored by them....BUT...I absolutely loved it....I love the actual grill and the versatile of the griddle itself...
@@TheFlatTopKing Ohhh Im not saying you do. Its good for you that you got it. I was just saying thats a really nice grill/griddle combo that you have! You deserve it with all the hard work the two of you put into the channel!!
Good video Neil , I use bacon grease to mix some in with string beans when in a sauce pan, I think its delicious THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA....
Perfect...
Cool video, interested in this griddle top! Suggestion - Hawaiian Sun Guava, or lilikoi jelly. Great on a guava smoked ribs also. You won't be able to use anything else after that.
Would love to see how the griddle insert on the 3 burner Weber gas grills works. I know many have the spirit 3 burner grill.
Thanks for this in depth review. I really wanted a griddle to cook breakfast for the wife and son but already have a nice three burner Weber with side burner and no real patio space for a separate griddle. Buying this insert based off your review.
Oh btw one thing I was thinking, was with that shelf right below the grease catcher, if you really wanted to it seems like you could just put a bowl or coffee can or whatever on the shelf to catch the grease instead of the official insert. You know if you didn't want to worry about emptying the pan for that cook.
very good point...
It’s like being at an old school diner!
I knew you would like it multi-purpose is the best
That Weber grill/ griddle is really nice but I think Weber should redesign that grease trap. That looks like it might be a problem especially for a newbie. But all in all I think it's a fine grill/griddle. Your video was very, very informative as all of them are. Stay safe in TN and try to stay cool if that's possible in TN. LOL
Thank you...
Got a smaller one for Weber Spirit E320 (3 burners). One thing I can say about this griddle is that you need a grill glove. My hand is still red with all the burns.
Yes, I made that mental note as well.
The only thing I can’t commit to is the gas grill part. The rest of it looks amazing. I totally get the idea behind the griddle plate attachment to save space though.
So much going on in this video. It reminded me of when I was 19 going to Florida. I would eat breakfast every morning at a Waffle House. There was only one cook and I was wowed by the skill in getting so much food done by one person. This video was just like that. Great job talking about the safety when cooking too. Really loving this Weber with the insert. It's the best of both worlds, a gas grill and a griddle. Awesome Video.
We are really liking it...i didnt think I would...but thats why we try different things for sure
I bought this thinking I was going to use it in my new searwood when it’s delivered. But now I think I’m going to see if it fits in my Weber 3 burner propane grill. More efficient and probably control your temps a little better.
I have checked...mine will not fit my searwood...hahhaha
I'm glad you did this video I have a campchef 2 burner and I really don't have the cash to buy a flattop so I seriously think I will get the grill for my stove keep up the great recipes recipes
TY
great couple of video reviews, just in case Weber is reading, this make a half size insert. I could grill a burger on one side, albeit gas not charcoal, while I griddled some mushrooms on the side for a perfect mushroom swiss. Maybe not perfect since gas but you get the idea.
Great idea....
Awesome video. If I ever get a grill, this will be the one. Every time I see the knobs on the grill I think of a mason jar lid. It's not a bad thing, it's countryfied. I would love to see you cook a pizza on the halo like you did the biscuits on this griddle. I bet you can do it. Par bake the crust in the oven and then finish on the griddle. You can par-bake a pizza crust and then freeze them for later use. I made the crunch wraps on my Webber 3 burner griddle today. It's become a staple in my house.
Now that you mentioned the mason jar lid, I can not get that out of my head....ahhahahhah spot on....Yeah...we are doing pizza on the griddle very soon..probably actually playing around this weekend with the halo
My new napoleon insert just got here today. Psyched to try it!
Hey will you keep me posted..i actually have someone interested in purchasing one for theirs...i dont have any knowledge
@@TheFlatTopKing Absolutely I will
Great looking breakfast. I realize you Southern Guys have the corner on making sausage gravy, but I have a suggestion. I like to add about 1/2 cup of chicken stock before adding any milk or half and half. It just adds some good background flavor and some salt. Give it a try. I think you will like it. You guys' rock! Love the channel. Keep doing what you are doing.
Ty
This is great bc we just invested in a new grill, plus we still have my griddle top, any best suggestions on best way to clean the griddle
Great vid. Very informative on not only the grill but also the food. How do you know when the inside of the hashbrowns are done?
Well i like the refrigerator ones...when cooking it just takes so long and they are so thin that it just happens....not really any tell tell sign...honestly I haven’t thought about that...it just cooks as the exterior crips
Oh Yea, my favorite meal ANYTIME of the day/night. You cooked it perfectly and the oops was a owners error that WEBER should look into and prevent it from happening. Could be a catastrophy over a quarter inch !! So the peanut gallery was there keeping you in line this morning huh lol, at first I thought one of the girls had a cold when the strange voice mad a comment. Glad you all had a great time too, we enjoyed your video too . Fred.
Great information. That grease trap mishap could have been much worse😊
Yes....I think I might contact webeer about it...
Got your seasonings, your right shake that is good on fries, that one going fast
Hey i appreciate that....truly
Everything but the grease trap challenge looks great. Food included! Insert, I get it. But na. Still 😇for the Win!
Thank you for this channel, Neal! I've started and learned how to griddle because of this channel. Unfortunately I didn't have enough space to buy a dedicated griddle so I got this Weber insert griddle instead (for my old 3 burner genesis model). And I've been using it a lot! My family always excited bout Saturday's breakfasts. This griddle insert is great in general. But 2 major inconveniences:
1st, as you mentioned already, front side is very hot due to multiple hit escape holes, it makes long stirring very unpleasant (you always need to do it fast). Overall, it is manageable.
2nd, not perfect grease management. Hard parts and outburns have tendency to pile up under the griddle in a far right conner and you can easily get a fire torch if it would be big enough to burn. So, time after time you need to remove this insert and clean it up.
Hope it would be helpful for people who decide to go for this Weber option.
Regards!
Spot on....thank you...I think I might reach back out and just ask about that grease idea..does seem suspicious..not bad...just not great
I have the three burner version as well and have been scraping the back right and left corners after using the griddle to keep the grease issues down. Had a major problem with grease fires down in the grease drip pan (see my comment here too) but overall, this was TOTALLY worth the money and is perfect for us.
100% agree! If you LOVE to griddle, the insert is too pricey. Just get a new griddle. If you like griddle and grill? Then the insert is fine and livable.
Awesome video I watch both your reviews on it. I’m actually a huge Weber charcoal grill fan and was looking into getting a gas one that had the insert to save space. I used to have a Blackstone but I sold it because it was so huge 36” with air fryer I never even used lol and would have room to have a gas grill with that. I was just wondering which model grill that was. A dose it happen to have the light built into the handle? You earned a new subscriber! Thank you !
Genesis 4 burner model.....thanks for the support...cheers
I could see the flare-ups might give some problems to some, great meal, and good recipes
Looks like a great option. Like you I’m definitely a fan of the lower temps. How many times did you have to dump the grease trap?
Well considering some of it spilled...hahhaha just the one time...but that was almost 2 packs of bacon as well...
Thanks so much for doing this video. We have a Weber 4 burner grill almost like that one. I don't have a burner on the side or a closed cabinet. Also our drip pan is deeper than that one and in a different place. I guess it will work with that griddle. Weber website states it is good for the Genesis II 400 series from 2016 and newer. I bought ours in the end of the fall of 2018. Thanks for showing the warning about the drip pan needing to be in the exact and proper space to prevent a big ole mess. LOL Those vent holes in the front makes me think the heat coming from it would burn your arms while cooking. I guess they don't, but still...........😳 Now the price of 300.00 and the thought that I might need the 55.00 storage bag throws me into a little sticker shock. But still, that is cheaper than buying a whole new grill to cook breakfast on. And. I was weaned on that white gravy. And we have never made it out of sausage. It has always been made from the bacon drippings. In fact, everything I eat growing up was cooked with bacon grease or flavored with bacon grease. When we cook with the bacon grease, there is no need for any other seasoning, other than salt and pepper. LOL Throwing out the bacon grease was pretty much a sin in our southern culture. And using my momma's cast iron skillet that she used to make cornbread, for anything other than cornbread, would get you the death penalty. Carried out by skinning the offender alive. 🤫🙂 I did not think about biscuits turning out so well on that grill. I so need this for cooking our very large Christmas breakfast when all my kids and their families come. Not sure how that would work cooking outside in the cold.
Well to be honest..i have the bag and haven’t used it...i just keep the griddle in the grill when not using...right on the grill grates..when I need to use it..i just move it away....stays in the grill the whole time...that saves 55...also....just appreciate that comment,...thank you
Hopefully Napolean come out with something similar for my prestiage 500 grill.
Dang!!! When you gonna invite me for breakfast? As usual a great video.
TY
The griddle worked flawlessly….amazing how even the heat was. But you have many more burners in a grill,,,,griddle makers take note
Great video! I have the same grill but in black. Mind I ask what size cast iron skillet you have on the side burner? I wanna make sure to not get one too big but big enough to cook a good amount of food.
I have a lodge 10 in...but a 12 in would work as well...my 8qt dutch oven works as well
Have you cooked biscuits on any other griddle? I have a new-to-me iron Pit Boss. Loving cooking on it.
I have...The Pit Boss Ultimate....look up big breakfast on the Pit Boss
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤👀at all the yummy food you just grilled up! I want to be your official taster Please!! Nicely done mate!
hahahaha absolutely....thats a long drive and swim..ahhahha
Wow, nice job. It looks like you had total control over the heat zones with this setup. Now that's what I'm talkin' about! You just need a little engineering change on the grease tray so it goes all of the way back to the rear of the grill, and that would fix that little mishap. A bigger grease bin would be nice too! So considering the grease tray, can this griddle insert only be used with the Weber grill? Oh, and by the way Amy, that bacon was done when Neal turned it the first time. Hey, Neal told me to say that from my last comment! 😊 I don't like crunchy bacon, if ya didn't guess. I think somebody else said this too, but, "Nailed it!"
hahahaha dont get me in trouble..ahhaaha
Any follow up update on this set up? I will be picking up my new Genesis and griddle this coming weekend.
Yes...this weekends video will be featuring this model...
New to your channel I been wanting a griddle for the longest time. Recently moved down south so I think it’s time to get one. I currently have a 3 burner Weber not if I should get the Weber insert or get a dedicated griddle. What’s your opinion?
Well that up to you....Money...space...etc...does the insert equal a stand alone...no...but their are tradeoffs...not sure your situation....The insert is more of a compromise based on factors....If these do not apply...I would recommend a stand alone...
in hardin valley, we call that egg toast, yum yum yum........38 days ....go vols
Gbo
LMAO, I thought that bug flying in front of your window at the end was on my screen and went to swat it away...
hahhahahah LMAO......
I’m very impressed on how the Weber performed and cooked Brotha ✊🏼🧐! I know the price point on them badboys are UP THERE. I have owned in the past some propane grills and I did like the cooking time and versatility as opposed to charcoal grills. Now don’t get it twisted my guy, I’m team Charcoal/smoke all the frickn way 🫡. But I could see owning one of these with the griddle attachment when I want to grill/griddle in a pinch and not heat up the house. And with the insert, with its stable temps… it would be game on! Can’t wait to see what’s next on this bad boy. That’s just my 2pennys.
Outstanding episode Y’all, it all looks 🔥🔥🔥! Hope the lil birdies you fed were happy with the outcome 🤣👌. CheersY’all 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
Heck yeah....my youngest had a full belly for sure..ahahahah appreciate ya
Once again looks delicious. Continuing to do research before purchasing. New to channel so not sure if you have done one or not but have you done any cooks on the E Blackstone? If not is this something you would consider to review? Thanks.
I have not...i had the Pit Boss Ultimate...ceramic coated top....just absolutely did not like it....
@@TheFlatTopKing ok. Thanks
Neal your my go to guy for questions... can you use the same cutting board that raw meat sat on or do you need to wash it off before you put your cooked meat on? Thanks for everything King!
Absolutely wash.....no doubt...
It seems the Griddle insert is about 4" shallower than the Traeger: 18x33" for the Traeger, 14x32.5" for the Weber. The Traeger also has the grease trap taking up space in the front.
Is there a noticeable difference in what one can cook over the other?
(Trying to decide between the two: the Weber Slate won't fit nicely on the patio with my other grills... but the Traeger would with the fold--down tables... so it comes down to a Traeger, or the Genesis with insert (to replace my old genesis))
The cook is great as usual, the grease trap issue on the unit is a problem. Anytime you allow a small error to potentially cause a grease fire is a design flaw that they need to address. Yes, it needs a much larger grease cup. The open flame could have been a huge disaster, also where is your fire extinguisher just in case? The breakfast, gotta love it. The marmalade to the French toast, great idea.
We have it in our rolling cart..ahahahah always around for sure
There is a shelf under the aluminum drip pan.
I've found if you just remove the pan and put a large baking tray on the shelf, it eliminates lots of your grease problems.
I have the same setup. Biggest complaint is I wish the side burner could go lower.
Yes.....its a hot one...
Hey…Tennessee pride sausage is my fav!
Us as well....
I've got way too much invested in my blackstone, No way i'm switching, Is fun video though
Hey Brother, How does this compare to a pit boss griddle? I have the pit boss four burner griddle (based on your review), but long term ownership I noticed the non-stick feature and sturdiness of the product starting to degrade. Before buying another griddle, I thought the Weber griddle insert might be a good alternative.
Thats unfortunate and happened to me as well...I think its a great unit....its my 2nd to 3rd favorite...love the idea on low...best in the business...BUT I hope you read this in time...I have a relationship with Weber...They are releasing a NEW Slate Griddle that looks insane...I will be getting one 100 guaranteed....Its marketed as a griddle that does not need to be seasoned...and 100 rust proof...
