I really enjoy watching packing related stuff while waiting to be able to travel freely again. I just want to mention that I'm a 60+ yr old female world traveler who's been using packing cubes since before some of you guys were born, and I'm always watching for new innovations despite having accumulated a wide variety of cubes. I can't justify buying any more, but I can look! I love the Eagle Creek ultralight Specters but also like the more structured LLBean classic cubes, and I'm still looking for the perfect lightweight, multi-compartment makeup/toiletry bag. Meanwhile, I'll continue to satisfy my cube/pouch addiction by watching your channel.
Thanks for reaching out, MEH. Glad to hear that our channel is satisfying your cube/pouch addiction, we totally get where you're coming from there! 😄 Let us know when you find your multi-compartment makeup/toiletry bag, we'd love to hear what works for you. - Rebecca
I went on a little packing cube buying spree a couple of months ago in preparation for our family holiday. I’ve never used packing cubes before but I certainly will be from now on! I have a Eagle Creek compression set and a bunch of AmazonBasics cubes. Love how well the compression cubes work. The AmazonBasics cubes are fantastic as well, especially for the price.
We don't really have backpack organizers where I come from, and import fees are crazy high! I asked a local tailor to make a few cubes for me that fits my Aether pack perfectly. Great video! Gave me some ideas. My current ones are all clamshell opens, mesh front panel, elastic straps inside, and are all expandable by twice the size via the all-around zippers. I even have one shaped like my flip flops.
Hey Samuel, digging your idea to create custom packing cubes. It's a great way to help you find exactly what works for you and the fact that they fit your pack perfectly is awesome. Thanks for sharing! - Rebecca
For the ultimate budget option, there's always plastic shopping bags. They're water resistant, weigh almost nothing, and take up no space in your bag. They don't really compress the contents, aren't the most attractive, and usually aren't very durable. However, they can be found just about anywhere, are good for carrying random stuff, and are great for containing messy items like shoes, dirty clothes, trash, etc. They're so useful that I keep several in my purse, travel bag, and car at all times.
Superb rundown of the best manufacturers of packing cubes. I particularly like the flair and style of presentation here. It's actually very entertaining! Well Done!
I can’t compare with other brands, but we are very happy with the “Pack-It Original” cubes from Eagle Creek. Apart from the smaller ones for socks, underwear and shirts we especially like the big one, which holds the trousers. We travel a lot (OK, not now) with “living out of a suitcase”, which was a mess before we got these cubes. Now, with the cubes in two colors for my wife and me, the daily exercise to unpack (as needed) and pack again is almost a pleasure :-).
Hey Torsten, so glad to hear that the original Eagle Creek Pack-It cubes are working so well for you. We love hearing how packing cubes can transform a packing experience and your travels, thanks for sharing! 😊🙌 - Rebecca
I just realized that my Pack-its are a decade old. And they still look and work fantastically! Also, I need to renew my passport... a decade ago was a very eventful time, clearly.

I use the gonex packing cubes and they are great! I especially love the compression zipper and the bright color. The only downside is that one of the zippers was stuck once for a complete day and I could not get my clothes out.
The nite ize are my absolute favorite. I love knowing that my clothes will stay dry, even if I have toiletries with me. I also like using the large packing cube to keep my tech dry.
Thanks for sharing your go-to with us, Andrew! We get what you're saying, knowing your items are dry inside your pack definitely gives you peace of mind on your travels. 😊 - Rebecca
You said you could fit up to 8 t shirts in the cube but it clearly has a huge amount of space left and you could fit another four at least .. underfilling cubes defeat the object of using them as they take up more volume underfilled than if you were to have packed them directly into the bag! if you roll neatly and tightly you can fit 6 t shirts into a large food ziplock so it is all about the packing technique!
So nice to see you featuring ultralight gear. Since I've started packing with a more minimalist mindset I want everything as light as I can get it. My gear now has to do double duty as backpacking gear.
Have y’all ever done a video about how you unpack/use/place your items at your destination? This is one part of pouch-based packing methods I haven’t figured out yet.

Hmmm. For coffee I have: used the MSR 'Mug Mate' brew basket, and their travel French press. Tea filter bags (disposable and reusable), a Central American 'collador', cowboy coffee, Coleman travel pour-over thingy, Mellita plastic pour-over cone, Aeropress in two Iraq tours. Probably some other stuff I've forgotten. Oh yeah, a bicycle pump-looking espresso pod thingy. Some of this stuff was clearly more for ceremonial value than practical caffeination. I like to think I've grown out of that need. Currently because instant coffee has gotten so good I'll take that. Starbucks Via packets get the press but there's better/cheaper stuff out there. Otherwise the Brew Buddy does a single cup of pour-over or hot soak well and is cheap, compact and easy. But the best bang-for-the-space/weight/buck is a small nylon mesh draw-string 'nut milk' bag which will make a liter of cold brew, or do tea or hot soak or pour-over coffee with the help of a rubber band. Weighs less than a quarter of an ounce and takes up the space of a single baby sock, works in a variety of containers, and holds coffee with accouterment for packing.
Personally I use a few ziploc bags inside regular packing cubes. ziploc bags are clear to see what's inside and you can really compress it with the seal. They are cheap and reusable. They are perfect for dirty clothes too.
Important to note on the Hyperlite pods: their shape is intentional. They are intended to fit perfectly into the shape of the Hyperlite thru hiking packs. If you're looking for a less expensive DCF option, try Mountain Laurel Designs or Zpacks.
I like the eagle creek pack it originals as they are clamshell and it's nice to just pull them out at a destination and effectively have a little closet. The osprey ultra light set is great too. Surprised you're not including the Arcteryx cubes in this list.
So what happens with the clothes after the compression ? Aren’t they rumpled? What do you do then? Do you take some steam iron with you?
This depends significantly on the material of the clothes and how they’re folded! We don’t have a huge issue with wrinkles, but this might be an issue when they’re in there longer.
