Roll in non-compression cubes to maximize space. Rolling makes the clothes denser and pushes out all of the air so you can get more into the cube. However! If you are using compression cubes, folding works a lot better because the compression itself will get the air out. If you roll in a compression cube, the bag will become deformed, and then they don't stack as neatly together, meaning you get wasted space between the cubes. It's like putting spheres into a square box. Remember that the packing cube should still have flat edges when it is fully packed. If it's bulging, you're losing space in your bag where the next item / packing cube will abut the first one.
@@HarryOsirian If you're going to be traveling often, my suggestion is this... if you're able, find a few different types, experiment with them BEFORE YOU LEAVE, and find one that works out best for you. Return the ones that don't work that well.
@@7ymlord Then maybe the normal packing cubes will do instead of the compression ones. Unless there's somehow a way to stuff more things in your luggage where the packing cubes are curved in.
When I use packing cubes I stick pieces of painting tape on the outside of each and write on it with a marker pen what is inside the cube. (Can be peeled off easily at the end of the trip). So, if I want to find my swimsuit, or my just-in-case-it-gets-cold-jumper I can see immediately which cube it is in.
I like to use ziploc-type bags that are clear to see everything and it's easy to get all the air out. Plus they're inexpensive compared to some of the packing cubes.
I have traveled extensively. I started out with standard packing cubes. I down sized to small packing cubes. and only put one to two days of clothes in each. I numbered each cube for the day of use. I found the small cubes fill every space easily. I only have to grab the correct numbered cube for the day. I also carry plastic shopping bags. I put my dirty clothes back in the same cube. As the days go by I move the current days cube to the top. By changing to this system I found I could travel only with "my under the seat" bag or a backpack. Never looked back. I went to Israel for days TRAILS.....
And she's using the military roll method, which uses a fold at one end of the garment to hold it all together. I used to travel for my job, and my boss taught us to fold each piece of an outfit together to save time in the mornings, rather than packing everything as seperates -- and she learned it from a camp counselor who taught parents so their kids were easy to dress when away from home!

Sachets or “aroma clothes bags” are a brilliant suggestion to keep your suitcase contents smelling sweet. I have several sachets in my bureau and will toss one into my suitcase when packing for my next trip. I imagine the little bags of activated charcoal, sold for removing household odors from shoes, closets, etc., would also work if you don’t care for lavender/herbal scents or are allergic. Sachet bags would also be nice little souvenirs to shop for on your trip.
Packing cubes changed my life! I got them in Amazon and they were 6 x almost $20, not expensive at all. The packet brings one large, one medium two small ones, and three other bags for shoes, garment, and other stuffs. I just put them in the drawers at a hotel, cruise, or wherever I go and it makes my life so much easier. I would never roll my clothes.
I use both packing cubes and ziplock. I also used the compression cubes to pack baby clothes I took for my baby grandson, then I gave a few to my daughter-in-law when she was travelling with the baby which she found very helpful to pack his change of clothes. Zip-lock I use for dirty clothes that I haven’t had a chance to launder, that way the smell of dirties doesn’t contaminate the rest of my luggage.
Great ideas. I travel a lot and have to do laundry. I like to take the packing cubes to the laundry so i can roll and pack my clean clothes directly into them. Something I like about the eagle creek cubes that don't open completely is that I can stuff my rolled clothes into the bottom of the unzipped cube and zip it up as I fill it while compressing the clothes as much as possible. It is easier than trying to compress the whole thing after I fill it.
I always use a garment folder, like Eagle Creek Pack-It Reveal Garment Folder. It has this plastic sheet which you can easily fold you shirt around nicely. It can hold 15 t-shirts or shirts and be compressed when closed. Works better for me for garments that I dont want to crinkle up, and my shirts are as easy to pick out as if they were lying on a shelf. I liked the idea of rolling up 1 days outfit the way you did. Will try that out for short trips.
The best video I've seen on packing cubes. I have Eagle Creek Spectre compression cubes that do open on 3.25 sides. I get 4 into my carryon roller or spinner, with room for plenty of other things. I move every few days on Europe trips, so just putting the cubes on a shelf in my hotel works extremely well. I didn't know about Peak Design cubes, will check them out, because you point out that Konmar folding doesn't work well in the EC cubes.
Great video giving a very rounded view on the use (or not) of packing cubes. I currently use packing cubes and generally roll my clothes. I have the Eagle Creek compression ones (with the zip all the way round so the top can be opened up). I like them because they are light weight. However, the ‘compression’ never works for me - maybe I have too many clothes in them. I am looking with envy at your Peak Design cube - maybe I will treat myself to one of these in the future. Thanks for your idea about using a dry stuff sack to compress a puffer jacket - this will come in handy for me on my next big trip to Iceland🥰🤗
I travel a lot and I frequently live out of packing cubes. I think the roll versus fold really depends on your size. Im a big guy, and folding is definitely the highest compression, lowest wrinkle method for me (in a suitcase for business travel). My wife is tiny and rolling works much better on her clothes. I'd say im a 50/50 mix of only taking a backpack (2 weeks or less) and having a suitcase for longer trips.
I always roll my clothes so they don’t wrinkle. They are in a line like burritos and I can see all of them at a glance. Compression cubes are great for fleece, puffy or rain coats and for anything you might pull out of your overhead bag and put on your plane seat or in the bag under the seat. NOT putting everything in cubes allows me to fill in between the handle tubes of my bag.
Thank you very much for all your information. I am zapping through all your videos and I am impressed by your ideas of minimalism traveling. It helped me really a LOT. 😊
Very very good video! My husband and I do crosspacking. One full outfit of his goes into my checked in suitcase and vice-versa. In case one gets lost. This outfit goes into a plasic bag. I like to keep tops and bottoms separate, as I always wear my pants several days. I fold my tshirts in a way that is someting in between konmari and army roll. Think of it as army fold, where you do the first step like army but then fold, not roll . Last step is like army roll afain. This fold holds the shape very good, it doesn't fall apart like konmari, and the shirts are stackable I use this method every day, my clothes are always neat in the closet and I can pack in no time. For the little things I use see-through containers. I have a print out packing list in them. I have tried and true solid products for haircare, deodorant etc. Make sure you test them thoroughly at home before taking them on a trip. I love traveling, and when the first round of washing is in the machine I put out the lists and check what I didn't use. There are some just-in-case items I still keep, mostly medical stuff. In general when evaluating a new "travel gadget" I think about how much time it would save me, of there are things I already have that can be used. Most of this influencer stuff is just a waste of money. If I really think, oh that could be good, I put it on the Amazon watch list for a year, reading only the critical reports. Last thing I bought was over ear noise cancelling headphones, and I really love them for nightflights and longer flights. I tested them on to flights London Sydney and back.
I have a Travelpro deep pocket carryon as opposed to the clam shell. The problem i found with my carryon is that if i needed something from the bottom, i had to dig through the upper layers. That is solved with packing cubes. I use compression cubes.
compression packing cubes for jackets or fluffy sweaters are a must have. The biggest thing about traveling in winter is that all your clothes are bulkier/fluffier and the compression comes in clutch.
Great video and very helpful. All the other travel vlogs keep boasting about this brand and that brand being great and all that. You literally detail all the advantages and also the disadvantages. I guess those 'paid partnership' videos I watched were just one big infomercial. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect video! I also think it depends on your trip. I'm learning to travel with only a backpack and also the best way to bring things, to pack and to carry in each trip.
Hi Linda! I regularly wash my clothes while traveling and I already did two videos about how I do my laundry on the road. Here is the latest one: ua-cam.com/video/NJ5T0e9_luA/v-deo.html
Ditto using a cube as your laundry bag, esp if you can get one of solid fabric instead of mesh. Keep a dryer sheet or sachet inside so things don't get too smelly. 🙂
I save my bars of soap from home when they get down to a sliver and stick them in with my clothes. Keeps everything smelling good and I can use the soap for washing.
Some cubes have a separate compartment that is very thin (like peak design’s) and you can move the clothes from the main compartment to the secondary one as they become dirty. At the end of my trip, I designate one cube as the laundry one (I surprisingly tend to pack with few extra items of clothing so one cube has been freed up! ). The above has worked for me for trips up to week, for longer stays I would figure out how to do laundry at my destination instead of waiting until I get back home.
Still read your comments a year after my 60 day trip, the one thing from all the UA-cam videos was some people have no idea about a long plane trip. 22hours from New Zealand to UK was actually longer as we had to leave home 11 hours before the international flight, was flown to Auckland early due lack of flights from my local airport, was orginally due to fly direct March 2020. Due to heat wave in UK needed even less clothes, never used my jacket, umbrella was enough. But used packing cubes and enormous plastic bags, put the smaller packing bags in then squeezed the air out. Could travel anywhere in the world now with carryon, but not a backpack as my shoulder is still not right, it was painful at times, but still need to work out a way to carry my neck pillow as I needed it only flying NZ to UK.
You are so right about long flights. Now that we travel full-time and we don’t have to rush from A to B anymore, we even go slower and pick a slower flight with a longer layover, or even stay deliberately for a day or two. This time, when we flew from Europe to Brazil, instead of hopping on the next flight to bring us to our destination, we just stayed in Rio for two days before continuing. That makes it so much more relaxed. We also used airport hotels. We booked a flight with a 12 hour layover, and then just went for a nap and a shower in the hotel directly in the airport. 😂
I like packing cubes. I got a 3 pack a few years back from Aldis the grocery store! They are still in good shape! I roll clothes except for bulky things- jeans, sweaters. Thanks for content!
Packing cubes very important when travelling on business. The last thing you want is to pull your laptop out of the backpack in front of a client and your undies go cascading all over the floor (on this occasion, I am *not* speaking from personal experience I'm pleased to say!).
Totally agree… 😂 I don‘t need to do much business traveling anymore nowadays, but I also appreciate the „privacy“ packing cubes give, also e.g. if the airport security wants to take a closer look. :)
I have found what makes sense to me are long narrow regular ventilated packing cubes work best for me. I do have the lighter weight Eagle Creek compression pack of 2 which I have not really found a use for them. They’re fun to handle but not as useful for my needs. I love You’re idea of placing a scented dryer sheet or sachet in each cube.
Awesome. I use some plastic Ikea shoe bags, they're roomy enough to hold and keep your clothing in place, as well as any other items you travel with, keeping your suitcase nice and tidy
Yes!! At least one that is smiling… 🤗 Usually people in English speaking countries blush and get all nervous when they have to say my name. 😂 PS: My name is the german word for fox. ;-)
❤ as always! Definitely Team Packing Cube. But, I ordered the most inexpensive set of 4 on a local site here, then chose the one that best fit my clothes for travel. Not compression, but it works and is lightweight. The biggest sizes I use in my drawers for storing wool sweaters to keep them safe. So packing cubes have spread into my daily life 😂 For me... it makes my Type A side happy. 😎 I even have small bags in my purse now for various things. 👍🏻😂
Glad you liked it! :) I always love to read your comments, because we seem to be very similar. 🤗 I also used my packing cubes for other things when I still had an apartment (especially all the larger ones that I „grew out of“). I also find it very useful. Everson always used to make fun about me that I had pouches inside a cube inside a drawer… 😂
@@MaggiFuchs 😂😂😂I love that!! So funny. And thank you! I enjoy your videos and that you write back too! And honestly, I love the organization. And yes, we have things in common, but I am not really a minimalist, 🫣more... well, in my clothes, I am, and in travel. But I have too many hobbies (gardening, weaving, sewing, knitting etc) ...however, I am in the process of shrinking them down, and I do hope one day to be more minimal. 🤞🏻😁
@@lynneeie5226 I believe that minimalism is not having nothing, but having the right amount of things and owning things that make you happy - so if you need it for your hobbies and you use it, then it’s perfectly fine to have. ;-)

Excellent and thanks/danke. We travel often and have used (eBags) packing cubes for I’d guess 12-15 years now and am a believer! I also use an eBag case. One of my “secrets” about packing is don’t take a lot. These days we stay mostly in AirBnbs so laundry is no issue. Also these days one can wear casual clothes almost anywhere so t-shirts and polo shirts work well. I also take lightweight pants and shorts. also, take the minimum of footwear but even so, hiking shoes can be an issue. Lightweight puffer jackets are a bon for colder climes. I also have to take a CPAP machine and my portable device fits into a cube. We have a trip next March to Western Australia with a stop in England which complicates “wardrobes” so I was thinking of acquiring a Peak Design compressible cube just for these heavy clothes which I won;’t be using most of the time. Why PD - I like its cube shape plus I use their camera bags and straps and like their products.
I travel a lot and I have my own method... I prefer textile luggage with zipper on the upper edge (clamshell doesn´t work for me) . First I measured my suitcase and searched for the perfect fit .Then I found 2 4-pieces of same size Rolling Nomad packing cubes that fit almost perfectly in height and length to it ,and have a handle . I use 1 for tops, 1 for bottoms, 1 for undies , pjs, a foldable canvas safari hat ,and the other just empty for everything I´m going to buy . I also travel with a hanging travel toiletry bag and my electronics bag. To maximize the space in the packing cubes I fold Mary Kondo style my pieces I´m also lazy and do not unfold clothes at destination... I just lay open the packing cubes in the closet. And when is time to pack everything home ... just put the packing cubes back in the suitcase handle side up. I´ve been once complimented by a customs officer telling me that it was the most organized and easy to check suitcase he´s seen in a long time :D
@@godsent113 I`m travelling to Panama and Miami next month... I`ll try to remember to film the "how-to" ( sorry in advance for the quality of the video .. i have ZERO experience filming myself in a tutorial) 🤣🤣
What a great video. Very few people actually compare the different types of cubes/bags/containers and different styles. I love the Con Mari method. I've been using my Ikea cubes for several years now and they do what I need them to do and open up completely. I use the large-size zip-lock style bags from the dollar store. It's great to have extras for other travel needs too, like liquids and laundry. :)
good video. I use packing cubes and have used so many different ones I use to think compression was the best but I am not convinced anymore. Like you said it depends. I do a combination of rolling and folding. Some things I don't think roll very good.
Most people pack by loading their suitcase as it lays. Then, when you stand it up, everything that was neatly stacked horizontally suddenly turns vertical. It all falls to the bottom, and towing it along the airport concourse shakes it up even more. Even happens with packing cubes or ziplock bags. So stack your cubes/bags vertically, against the wheel area end of your bag. Problem solved
I totally agree, I also usually put them facing sideways, as you can see in the profile picture. :) And I also use what I learnt from hiking: put the heaviest thing in the bottom and towards the back. :)
Not necessarily. Too much weight low & outside can strain your back. I’ve found that placing the bedroll/sleeping bag on the top forces a *slight* forward lean, & a properly tight belly band shifts the weight to the hips
Great video! I love the lightweight Eagle Creek white/clear compression cubes for clothing, in my personal bag. For the rest I am undecided. Opening & closing the zippered bags looking for something gets annoying. I must be using them wrong. But I do like the shoe bags! Always great to hear other opinions or tips. Thank you for sharing!
Hooray! Eco and financially friendly. I guess cubes help clothes neat and keep its shape a little in a backpack or duffle bag. I rarely travel so I won’t use packing cubes. Thanks Maggi!
I use travelon compression cubes. Don't always use the compression part. There are lots of little pouches, too. A backpack that opens almost all the way, with lots of pockets
I'm glad I'm not the only one who used ziplock bags back in the day. I was in the navy and my ship we had limited space. So I used ziplock bags to hold all my civilian clothes for liberty ports
Great video thanks for the tips. I’ll try this packing method next time~ I have 1 tip for you: try looking directly into the camera lens more when talking, it’ll make us feel more engaged in the great content 😊
😅 I know… I find that extremely difficult. I am not that used to talking in front of the camera and at the moment I am already happy when I manage to speak a proper sentence and I always forget where to look… 😂 I hope one day I will get more used to that.
In my opinion, ziplock bags are nonsensical because they are not meant to compress their filling. Especially through the pressure of garments their zipper often and quickly breaks. I started using ziplock bags 20 years ago when I started with my first travels and long hikes but it's such an ecological disaster and not sustainable at all. Nowadays there are so many lightweight packing options that I would definitely advise to purchase that instead of ziplock bags. Be aware that compression isn't good for the garments' fibres. Packing cubes are great and really helpful but compression actually breaks the textile fibres especially if something is stored in there for a longer period. If it is just for the plane ride - surely it's doable but whenever one has the space, it is better to decompress. Travelling has turned into a chase, however, with all due respect, also think about sustainability. Ultralight gear might be handy and super light but also not durable.
No, I have not. They are almost impossible to get in Europe, because they charge huge shipping fees. The last time i checked, it was 150€ just for shipping, and that does not even include customs… So not worth it imho. :)
I have a pakt backpack and am looking to sell it. It is really good on having multiple organization compartments and since I had a tendency to overpack, the straps and hip belt made it easy for me to carry what I imagine was prob close to 40-50 lbs on my small frame. The only thing I don’t like is that the bag was pretty heavy by itself and I’ve since discovered that there are plenty of bags that carry just as well and are lighter. Since I already tend to pack my items into organizational cubes, I’ve found that I don’t need as many compartments
I have the Pakt backpack and it helps me pack less and pack smarter, because everything has its place. But it is expensive to order and a bit heavy. But for me, since I don’t get along with packing cubes, it remains my favourite.
Great video! Can you do a video showing how you rolled your hiking clothes? Also, what is the name of the small cloth you put w each packing cube to keep your clothes smelling fresh? Thank you
I will add the idea to my list! :) They are little packages with smelling pearls inside - they are common to buy here in Austria. You could also just use dryer sheets if they are „dry“. Here in Austria, they soak them with some fluid, so I can‘t add them to my clothes. But I know that eg in the US, their dryer sheets are actually dry and then they work great too. 😅
I have a suggestion... You need a '4D' pack kit or 'Wandr' W36 travel compression bag. The 4D has a multiple item kit with collapsible hanging closet. Whilst the Wandr W36 is ideal for a backpack to save space particularly when hiking. I am waiting for both systems to arrive to me as both are crowdfunded projects via Kickstarter. I am currently travelling through France and Italy from Australia and wish I had them with me as carting clothes for both cool and warm climates is such a pain! I had no other choice other than to take a check in luggage (High Sierra) Wish I watched your content prior to my trip as I like the solutions you have (dry bags, zip lock) which is very cost effective rather than Peak Design or Eagle Creek solutions
@MaggiFuchs My 4D is due to arrive Monday 4'th November I'll let you know how it goes. Typical I just arrived back from 1 month in Europe from Australia! Would of come in handy a month ago. Seriously though reach out to them personally and review on your channel
I usually don’t reach out to brands - then I feel kind of pressured to say something nice. I prefer to have them reach out or buy stuff myself. :) But let me know how it works for you! I would be super curious to hear that. Maybe I will get one for myself at some point too.
I'm even lazier than you. I once had nothing and survived a couple days at a hospital. Also when I've traveled somewhere I've packed my stuff so neatly at home, so I don't touch my stuff during the trip to not make it messy 😄 And many times I've stayed somewhere with my stuff and I've not even opened my bag 😄
@@MaggiFuchs I once went on a trip, packed my stuff at home and during the trip I forgot I had packed something, so I tried to survive without it and succeeded. I later at home discovered that I had packed that something before :D :P And since then I've thought if I really need something :)
I always put them directly in my drybag (I have a thin one that I use for washing laundry), and when laundry day comes, I have it all together. And I just put the drybag with the dirty clothes back into my packing cube, since the space is freed up and it would be empty otherwise. :)
Hahaha I can totally believe that… I think if you need to fold the clothes for a whole family like this, it would get complicated. 😂 But for my handful of things, it still works great.
Using packing cubes for the first time on our carryon only trip next month. 🤞🏻Non-packing related question…… Do you have a wireless cell phone charger recommendation?
No, I only have a powerbank that charges wirelessly and I am not happy with it. Way to slow. I just bring a small charger that can charge fast (currently, the 20W one that came with my iPad Pro), so I just plug my phone in most of the time.
Thank you!! This video was super helpful. I'm trying to decide which set of packing cubes to buy and I really like those Peak Design bags you have. Have you tried their tech pouch? That also caught my eye when I looked at the store page.
Hi! I don’t have the tech pouch from Peak Design, but I had one from Inateck who basically has the same layout. I didn’t like it too much, because due to to the placement of the items, the things are next to each other while other areas in between are empty… I found that I can pack the same stuff in a smaller bag and have it less bulky, so I did that.
I still don’t know how to call them in English, to be honest. 😅 They are little paper bags with smelly pearls inside. Here you can buy them everywhere, but I guess if you are in the USA, you could just replace them with dryer sheets (if they are dry and not wet).
Most travel bags are now square, almost like suitcases, so the packing cube work quite well. But with my hiking backpack, I would agree with you - there, a drybag works better. :)
I guess I am not the best to ask that question, because I rarely pack dresses. But I would probably worry more about buying the right kind of dress that doesn’t wrinkle and dries fast and then just pack it in my cube. 🤗
True… there is definitely no one way to do this. :) I usually pack rather light so even with my packing cubes and all my tech and the things I need for a few months I stay below 7 kgs. :)
@@MaggiFuchs I, unfortunately, keep bringing my gaming laptop as it's my only way to transfer videos from action cam to external ssd. Now though, I found an usb hub that can do that with just my tablet. Have a trip to Japan next week. Hopefully, I can pack more stuff now.

I travel a lot and today I learned something new. I rolled 5 tee-shirts per packing cube and placed vertically in the bag. Thats a space saver!

Like the detail. You are right to live from the cubes as when on the move so much especially in hostels with dim lights etc so easy to lose stuff...
Thank you very much for all your information. I am zapping through all your videos and I am impressed by your ideas of minimalism traveling. It helped me really a LOT. 😊
Thank you, I am happy to hear that! 🤗
Thanks for the great tips. I like the idea of the ranger fold - I used to do something similar with my towels. :)
Very much enjoy your videos! Love listening to the rationale for why you do things the way you do. Please keep them coming!
I have a Travelpro deep pocket carryon as opposed to the clam shell. The problem i found with my carryon is that if i needed something from the bottom, i had to dig through the upper layers. That is solved with packing cubes. I use compression cubes.
Your hiking outfit roll is brilliant!!
compression packing cubes for jackets or fluffy sweaters are a must have.
Thanks, I really appreciate the tip about how to fold the clothes and also using plastic bags as well. I never would have thought about that.
Everyone talks about packing to go on their trip but no one talks about what they do with the dirty clothes
Hi Linda! I regularly wash my clothes while traveling and I already did two videos about how I do my laundry on the road. Here is the latest one: ua-cam.com/video/NJ5T0e9_luA/v-deo.html
I have a cube/bag for dirty clothes, too.
I love a packing cube, and its easy to empty your suitcase of one if you find youre overyour baggage allowance.
I agree with u, and I find it less embarrassing if u ever have to open up your suitcase in line in front of everyone. No undies falling out 😅
Still read your comments a year after my 60 day trip, the one thing from all the UA-cam videos was some people have no idea about a long plane trip.
Consider buying an inflatable neck pillow.
Ikea💛💙🧳has a set of 3, I might try it. At the moment I use wet bags and the net bags for your washing machine😇😉😅
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It was very helpful. Safe travels.❤
I have started traveling with a double sided packing cube. My favorite way to stay organized…everything in one bag.
Oh that also sounds interesting. Which brand do you use?
@@MaggiFuchs I had an old Ikea one that died recently so just got a new one on Amazon-- iDesign Double Packing cube
@@cindyyinger5718 Thanks, I will have a look. :)
Awesome. I use some plastic Ikea shoe bags, they're roomy enough to hold and keep your clothing in place, as well as any other items you travel with, keeping your suitcase nice and tidy
As an American reading your name put a smile on my face 👍🏽😉
Yes!! At least one that is smiling… 🤗 Usually people in English speaking countries blush and get all nervous when they have to say my name. 😂
PS: My name is the german word for fox. ;-)
That was a wonderful explanation and great ideas. Thank you.
We always use these! I don't know the brand, but we use the ones that can expand with an extra zipper

I’ve learned so much about the cons and pros. Vielen Dank.
Thank you. This was very clear. I appreciate your thoughts.
Awesome. I started folding that way in my drawers, I am ordering the peak bag for my shirts for my Thailand trip. ! Happy Travels!😊
I also started with my drawers in the beginning, and then I liked it so much that I started doing it in my packing cubes too… 😂 Enjoy Thailand!!! 🤗
I roll everything but slacks. I use packing cubes to keep organized. Slacks I lay flat under the packing cubes in suitcases
thank you for your honesty
If only you had a video of this! Your method makes so much sense 😊
@@godsent113 I`m travelling to Panama and Miami next month... I`ll try to remember to film the "how-to" ( sorry in advance for the quality of the video .. i have ZERO experience filming myself in a tutorial) 🤣🤣
@@nailekara thank you so very much!! I appreciate this! 😊
I like compression packing cubes because they can function as two different sizes. Sometimes I "overfill" a cube and not zip up the compression part.
Lots of very good info, thank you. 3 week European trip later this summer….so much to consider…yikes
And so much to look forward too! :)
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your experience! 👍👍
I'm always concerned that compression will make the bag too heavy for me to carry because you can pack more.
The struggle is real… 😂
Great video! I love the lightweight Eagle Creek white/clear compression cubes for clothing, in my personal bag. For the rest I am undecided. Opening & closing the zippered bags looking for something gets annoying. I must be using them wrong. But I do like the shoe bags! Always great to hear other opinions or tips. Thank you for sharing!
Hooray! Eco and financially friendly. I guess cubes help clothes neat and keep its shape a little in a backpack or duffle bag. I rarely travel so I won’t use packing cubes. Thanks Maggi!
Never had travel cubes. I habe some frabric bags and this do the job.
I use travelon compression cubes. Don't always use the compression part. There are lots of little pouches, too. A backpack that opens almost all the way, with lots of pockets
Your packing style sounds very similar to mine. 🤗
This was a very helpful post.ty
I'm glad I'm not the only one who used ziplock bags back in the day. I was in the navy and my ship we had limited space. So I used ziplock bags to hold all my civilian clothes for liberty ports
Great tips
Great video thanks for the tips. I’ll try this packing method next time~
I have 1 tip for you: try looking directly into the camera lens more when talking, it’ll make us feel more engaged in the great content 😊
Have you tried or thought of trying the Pakt backpack. Im interested in your opinion.
I had no other choice other than to take a check in luggage (High Sierra)
Wish I watched your content prior to my trip as I like the solutions you have (dry bags, zip lock) which is very cost effective rather than Peak Design or Eagle Creek solutions
Thanks for the suggestions! :)
@MaggiFuchs Just collected the package yesterday. I plan to test it out this coming weekend I'll send you my thoughts.
@@davidfromdownunder Have fun! Looking forward to hearing about your impressions. :)
I'm even lazier than you. I once had nothing and survived a couple days at a hospital.
Also when I've traveled somewhere I've packed my stuff so neatly at home, so I don't touch my stuff during the trip to not make it messy 😄
And many times I've stayed somewhere with my stuff and I've not even opened my bag 😄
That sounds very efficient… no laundry, wasting no time packing.. that’s the dream! 😂
@@MaggiFuchs I once went on a trip, packed my stuff at home and during the trip I forgot I had packed something, so I tried to survive without it and succeeded. I later at home discovered that I had packed that something before :D :P
And since then I've thought if I really need something :)
The most difficult is dirty clothes before washing. Where do you pack them if it is not laundry day yet, but you are traveling?
I always put them directly in my drybag (I have a thin one that I use for washing laundry), and when laundry day comes, I have it all together. And I just put the drybag with the dirty clothes back into my packing cube, since the space is freed up and it would be empty otherwise. :)
It just occured to me for the first time that there may be people in the world who actually use the dressers and closets in hotels. 🙊
Who would do such a thing… 😂
You know who doesn't use the KonMari method anymore? Marie Kondo!
Now she has children she's let things slide . . . .
Hahaha I can totally believe that… I think if you need to fold the clothes for a whole family like this, it would get complicated. 😂
But for my handful of things, it still works great.
@@MaggiFuchs It does indeed!

That was very helpful and concise, thank you!! ☺
Excellent video

It’s from Osprey. I have it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/fNnBcCwrjrY/v-deo.html

Isn’t everything wrinkled to high heaven when you roll clothing?
Yes, I think I mentioned that in the video. I am terrible in rolling, but for my hiking clothes, I really don‘t care about the wrinkles. ;-)
What’s the best way to avoid wrinkles? Just travelled for a week and everything was so so wrinkled!
I was unable to understand what it is you use to keep your clothes smelling fresh.. also, do you have a link for it? Thanks!
I still don’t know how to call them in English, to be honest. 😅 They are little paper bags with smelly pearls inside. Here you can buy them everywhere, but I guess if you are in the USA, you could just replace them with dryer sheets (if they are dry and not wet).
Is there a link to your husband's backpack with compartment zippers shown at 1:27?
Ah, the Dakine one? It used to be mine and now it‘s too big so my husband uses it. I talk more about it here: ua-cam.com/video/CPQmH5ulLlg/v-deo.html
im under the impression that packing cubes are for suitcases and drybags/sacks are for backpacks due to the shape ?
Most travel bags are now square, almost like suitcases, so the packing cube work quite well. But with my hiking backpack, I would agree with you - there, a drybag works better. :)
What do you recommend for packing a lot of dresses?
I guess I am not the best to ask that question, because I rarely pack dresses. But I would probably worry more about buying the right kind of dress that doesn’t wrinkle and dries fast and then just pack it in my cube. 🤗
