This is a really great video. Excellent job teaching the basics of cycling a tank and the work involved in keeping these amazing lizards!
Clint's Reptiles thank you!
Thanx for sharing this cool channel with us Clint 😆
Woot woot !!! FX6 all the way
canister sucks for high maintenance , best is sump filter
Dude I finally got around to watching all your videos! Your channel is SICK!!!
I love your filming set up!
ZA Reptiles thank you!
Thank you! Thinking about water filtration for my male green anaconda once he’s grown a bit.
In terms of establishing the nitrogen cycle, there are also a lot of products in the market to help start the cycle and doesn't commit you to buying fish you may not want to keep just to establish a cycle. Also watch prime time aquatics if you want to know how to establish an aquarium as well, even if it is focused on fish tanks!
What species of snail would you recommend to feed this guys? Would Helix aspersa work? They are commonly bred for human consumption
How big was this tank and how did you get a divider to divide the land from the water? Where could I find out about the cost of the tank and the filtration system? I really, really want a Caiman Lizard but not sure if I could come up with something like this.
How do I place fx6 filter tube through reptile screen ?
Where can I find your separator? All I find is mesh or screened. Thx
Well, I'm not sure if the hose you were using was hooked up to temp controlled water. But if you just sprayed cold water on your filter media. You killed much if not all your beneficial bacteria. The bacteria doesn't handle rapid water temp changes in either direction. Normally roughly 5° F + or - will begin killing bacteria.
What is the divider from? I really need one
I know this video is old, but I thought I’d help with the cycling process. There is a no fish cycling. You can use a small mesh bag and either put shrimp or sprinkle fish food in the tank with no animals in it, this will do the same thing as with fish. But it won’t harm or stress your cycling fish. And no worries of introducing any foreign pathogens in your water. Since you should quarantine your fish before using them.
I follow a guy on ig who has two & I've seen them eat shrimp & octopus.
How old is your caiman ? What is his weight and length
Heather Cox I have two Caiman Lizards that are 2 years old and one that is one year old. The two year olds are a little over 3 feet and the younger one is a foot and a half.
What about if you get a live aquarium substrate that already has the beneficial bacteria in it, how long should I wait then?
keyyon bush It’s hard to say. There are many factors in play and I can’t give you any exact information. Get a water test kit and test the water until all your parameters are within a safe zone.
Hey just got a caiman lizard yearling and had him for about 2 weeks now and he's very active in his enclosure but his apatite isn't as I thought or should be therefore wanted to know if we can have a private conversation to go over a few things that I'm concerned about? You can find my email address on my channel as a starting point...would really appreciate it if possible! And by the way thanks for sharing your experience with these guy's as there's not very much info. to go by!
Toe Knee message me on my Facebook or Instagram. It’s the same name and logo. “The Reptile Project”
I have some questions.
Can their tank be blackwater?
And which PH should I have?
And also, I heard that they won't touch fish, so can I have let's say bettas.
LaTenno black water doesn’t allow for much uv light and since Caiman Lizard need plenty of uv light and spend much of their time in water I don’t think a black water tank would be beneficial.
The ph in my water is usually 7.2 or 6.8. They can handle a lower pH but it’s best to keep it close to seven
@@TheReptileProject oh, thanks, and also, can caiman lisards take some beating from cichlids let's say?
LaTenno Caiman Lizards have thick skin and wouldn’t have problems with a cichlid as long as the cichlid isn’t huge compared to the lizard
@@TheReptileProject thanks for the answer, great content btw.
@@lanternno8491 becareful with some cichlids that are known eye nippers
Where should I look online to get a caiman lizard?
Jack Nemens snakes at sunset
Do you know when they come in stock?
I really want a lizard that swims but I can't fit a caiman lizard what could I keep
Captain Obvious try researching sailfin dragons or Chinese water dragons
The Reptile Project can they go in a 75 gallon and are they ok for a intermediate keeper?
Chinese crocodile lizard
Does caiman lizards drop there tail?????
Nope
Also you filled the filter up with tap water and clean filter with it too. This will kill the beneficial bacteria off
As long as I don’t use water that is too cold and I don’t scrub too much there is still plenty of beneficial bacteria to keep the tank going
The tank you have setup is too small for the fish you have though. I’m an experienced aquarist. You need a much bigger tank
I showed two different set ups. The smaller one was a temporary set up for a previous video.
So basically you gotta be a biological genius to correctly own these gorgeous animals😥
Preston Stiebel “experience with a aquarium” wdym? Like hooking up a filtration system and checking up on it every other day? And drop pellets for the fishes. This seems way pass that level. Let me comment stand so kids and other inexperienced people won’t get these animals
Damn dude.... owning a gator is easier then this lol.
