  • Here i demonstrate the early stages of a desktop hobby machine i have been working on, that i hope, with the help of 3D printing, will be able to convert into almost any machine a hobbyist might need.
    If you're interested in supporting this project and building your own "gumball" everything machine, I can provide all 3D files, parts list and build tutorial as well as offer free access to all future mods and upgrade files for a minimum donation of $10
    Follow this link for donations paypal.me/sweetgumnyc?country...
    Then email sweetgumnyc@outlook.com afterwards to be added to the backer group.
    Please subscribe here to follow progress on this project.
    / @sweetgumnyc7794
    I started a Facebook page for backers to share photos of their builds, mods or to help with problems.

    I was thinking you could make it into a glass lathe and then I saw you already did, at least with one chuck. You could use another motor and synchronize them and have the second chuck with a hole through so you could place tube in it and connect a blow hose. I'm a glassblower but I make my own torches and all sorts of stuff. I have some awesome ideas as I'm sure you do so get ahold of me if you're interested

    OK Bro, you earned a sub with this one. Its not only great that you have put so much thought and effort into this, its great you are sharing it with others in these times. As a maker, I concentrate efforts into making my own jigs and tools that work with my build process so I appreciate the intelligence in your machine and will put your channel on the makerspace UA-cam account for folks to learn from and be inspired by your enthusiasm and cleverness. Best of luck and I hope your channel takes off like an Elon Musk Rocket.

    Holy cow, what an awesome project. I've been looking into gemcutting setups and they're all so very expensive for a starter who isn't sure if he'd even continue doing it. However, I've been needing a bench grinder anyway, so having a machine like this that can do it all would be exactly what I want.
    Even better, I have a 3D printer!

Just finished up on making my own beautiful power hone and coffee grinder (hand grinder conversion to power mount) over the last 5 months and your work on this all in one machine is absolutely awesome. This looks awesome, I did something similar but for sharpening gravers.
    My concern with this machine from the looks is the concentricity, the attachements in the collet look to not be running true/level.
    Do you think that stems from the spindle, collets or inserts? because if this could be improved upon it would be an amazing piece of workshop machinery! Well done

    • @sweetgumnyc7794
      @sweetgumnyc7794  7 місяців тому +1

      it actually runs true if your work is centered properly. i think what youre seeing is the table shaking. i have to film on a folding table because i cant get correct camera angel on my bench so the machine shakes because of the table. on a proper bench its much better. that said, its not a super high quality spindle motor but for the price its definitely sufficient. there are better motors but they do come at a much higher price. i saw a video where someone spun the rear fan on a lathe to balance it better and apparently its supposed to significantly improve the motors performance. i havent really needed to but i might try in the future.

    3D print is best for making modelled pieces for casting. Not for actual working material. You might as well use wood. Plastic is not for industrial work. It's plastic. The wear factor is instant. The real cost is material for the 3D printing, loads of time and prep work. I could make machine covers out of aluminum in an hour. Same goes for most of the other parts. 3D takes forever. What's the real cost by the hour to make it?

    • @sweetgumnyc7794
      @sweetgumnyc7794  7 місяців тому +4

      im not understanding your question about the "real cost per hour" to make it...its not like i sat next to the machine waiting for the prints to finish and counted that as time. lol...i loaded the file and pressed a button and then came back the next day when it was done. regarding wear on the parts, im really not sure what youre imagining this machine being used for..its not an industrial machine, its a cheap 60 dollar hobby machine...can i cnc parts to make it better, of course...but that would cost a lot more money...the goal was for this machine to do as much as possible for the lowest possible cost while also allowing people with limited resources to do the same...most people dont have a metalworking or wood shop or a cnc machine...i do but i made this machine for the average hobbyist... , its a hobby machine. i have been using it for over a year for testing every day and it works as well today as it did over a year ago when i started working on it... i have read your comment 3 times now and i still dont understand at all what youre suggesting? are you suggesting it should be made from metal? how? how would an average hobbyist easily do that? cast or cnc the bracket in aluminum and then tap all the holes for the attachments to go? wood? more people not only have cnc machines, but cnc machines capable of 5 inches of z travel in your world than 3d printers? this is easier, cheaper and faster to you than 3d printing? what about all of the attachments being universal and needing to fit predesignated attachment points? you imagine making something by hand out of wood with those sorts of tolerances being easier and less time consuming than pressing a button on a 3d printer? ..lastly you dont think plastic is an ideal material for tools? none of your comments made any sense but that might be the most ridiculous claim...try telling that to just about every power tool manufacturer in existence. try going to home depot and find a power tool thats NOT made out of plastic...ha ha ha ... your comment was no different than criticizing milwaukee tools for making their hammer drill from plastic because you could do it faster made from wood....lol ....are you trolling or are you serious?? ..at least you comment gave me a good laugh. thanks...lol
