    I love the idea of affordable lapidary tools! Can you post links to where we can purchase the hardware? I think I may try some things without making all the attachments. 3D printer is not in the budget right now😢 The dremel has been a solid tool for me, and use it in my Arizona garage daily.

    On a cabber, there are belts with some sort of soft backing so the surface gives, and allows for a stone to be polished, or take a high grit grind. Definitely a softer surface. Look at flatlap wheels, not facet plates.

    holy fuck. as a lichen enthousiast, this has me deeply wondering; could the amount of lichens that highly react with uv in the city be a result of light pollution? as if they developed it as a mechanism to reflect back the excess light. the fact that there were almost none in the actual forst/wild was the thing that made it all click for me.

  • @PhoenixCreationsKaTyJs
    @PhoenixCreationsKaTyJs Місяць тому

    I love this so much I saw the original in acrylic a while ago and then James improved it even more - I’d love to be able to build to build this in the U.K. things are so much more explained here - but I still sent the donation for the info as it’s a worthy project to support and who knows maybe one day he will do a ship able kit for those of us who can’t access 3D printing even if it’s just specified parts - I wonder how hard it would be to make this U.K. compliant. Both safety wise and power wise!! Just so simple for the hobbyist who hasn’t the space or funds for the lapidary equipment they drool over - for me this would be a game changer - just not sure how to at present! Loving the videos 😊

  • @PhoenixCreationsKaTyJs
    @PhoenixCreationsKaTyJs Місяць тому

    The video dreams are made of! I’d LOVE TO MAKE in U.K. power and fittings! If I had access to a 3D printer or a kit to make this in the uk would be heaven! 😊

  • @PhoenixCreationsKaTyJs
    @PhoenixCreationsKaTyJs Місяць тому

    Loving this, I make jewellery and have a ton of red jasper to process ready for the tumbler and this would be perfect. Sadly I don’t have access to 3D printing and getting things 3D printed here in the uk is expensive! Anything laidary in the uk is expensive! I’d love to have the skill set to build this machine just for the rock cutting ability alone! I hope your project is progressing and I hope life has taken an upward turn for you since you become jobless. Hoping life has improved loads. It’s tough existing on a limited income, I’m disabled and can’t work and my hubby is a veteran but despite being over retrial age he’s still,working to keep the bills paid. It’s the little things we do to try and stay afloat stay sane and make the most of the life we can afford to live! It’s tough out there! So I wish you the very very best of luck with your project and hope you can take it further. 😊😊

    I must have missed all the details about the bearings and magnets and how you put that together and where you got them. Is the idea that the plate is held in place solely by the magnets? Sideways force from carving won't be a problem? I'll watch this again but there are some mysteries.

    I somehow managed to find a watchmaker lathe (from an actual watchmaker's estate, no less) for a really good price... the caveat is that it had no compound slide for precise operation and uh... my motor skills ain't it. So any idea where I can get a compound slide? Or cross slide, I think they mean the same thing. It's a Whitcombe lathe, but I think I'm going to forgo the standard and just use one of the prebuilt things like you glossed over when you mentioned the Chinese thing.
