  • Fishing the Waggler isn't something that you see anglers doing much anymore but it's a fantastic, productive and enjoyable method. Going back three-decades this was the going approach on Frensham Great Pond, a shallow lake full of tench and Rudd that lends itself to the float.
In those days it was tench that we targeted using maggot as bait, yet some summers, like this one it can be over-run with silvers, namely Rudd and perch.
I headed back in the hope of reliving the good old days, homing my waggler skills and hopefully bagging myself a few tench, however things didn't quite go to plan
Hopefully this video will encourage more anglers to dust the float rod off and give it a go as if you can find a lake as beautiful as Frensham Great Pond, fishing really doesn't get much better!

How fortunate you are to have such traditional waters to fish. Commercials are the devils work. Natural lakes duch as this are so very rare these days.

I didn't want this video to end..! I just adore that style of fishing and I'm very envious that you have such an iconic water to fish from. Thank you.

Who remembers Bob and Chris fishing here? Best fishing series ever? That Rudd!

Swimmers all over Bob and Kingfisher Landing on Chris rod. Still very much the same, just ten times more swimmers in the Great Pond!

@charmanangling1136 Is it Day Ticket there do you know? Only over at Milford so would like to pop over with me Grampy’s cane rod and give it a go for the silvers…… I’ve looked it up but can’t really find an associated club or where to buy tickets if so, any help appreciated. Asked Steve at Apollo but he wasn’t sure

When I fished Frensham GP back in the late 50's early 60's, it was the near record Perch we were after. The yacht club so we were told had used a treatment on the hulls which killed almost all the perch. Has the Perch population recovered? and from what I saw, the yacht club is no longer there? Wish I could get back, but far too old now - such memories of the place. Best Perch, 3.13, best Tench 7.12, Best Roach 2.7 and a 5lb Eel (minnow deadbaits were prime Perch bait, what a bonus).

Great vid Duncan. True rudd lakes few and far between this side of the pond. Lucky to have one close but they dont grow massive. 1lb is a good one. In saying that, I've never tried after dark. Still an ambition to fish Frensham. 🐟

I was finding either dead maggot or caster was producing a better stamp of fish when getting plagued by smaller fish. The dead maggots were a bit of a surprise when catching the bigger fish

I have been in touch with Ian Grey and he has confirmed that 16's and smaller may be micro barbed. I apologise to Duncan but I was informed by a bailiff that all hooks had to be barbless.

Hi Duncan. Another good video! Probably a silly question but I was wondering where you were putting the 1 split shot down on the hook length? You mentioned plumming with a shot on the hook. Presumably you move this up the trace an inch or so? Unless you are looking to fish on the drop I suppose.

The big split shot pressed onto the hook is only for plumbing up purposes and removed once depth found. Yes I am fishing on the drop so just one, on occasions two small shot are used to slowly sink the hook bait. Once the bait reaches the bottom its time to recast.

Hi when I went to look 2 days before the 16th I waded out and to be honest you couldn’t see further down than 4 inches so I’m curious to know if it’s any clearer if you could please Duncan and also in your opinion what causes it cheers Alan

    What’s the carp stock like

    • @duncancharmanangling1136
      @duncancharmanangling1136  4 місяці тому

If I could answer this one confidently I would as the dedicated carpers keep things quite close to their chest. I know it has a least one 40+ and would guess there are around 200 carp in the 60 acre lake excluding the numerous small ones that have obviously successfully bred a few years back, 4-7lb which we caught whilst targeting tench last summer.

Farnham waters are barbless only , to use a micro barb is breaking the rules. Duncan should know better.
