- Good Morning, Reptilians! Did you just get a new leopard gecko? If so, Congrats!!! 🎉 This week, we're looking at things to know, things to do, things not to do, and just general tips for your brand new leopard gecko. Most of this video is just about what to do and what not to do in your first week of having your new leopard gecko.
Also, if you notice Percy has some shed on her toes - I pulled her out and didn't realize she was finishing up shedding at that moment. 😅 But then she didn't want to go back in her tank, because I already took her out. Her toes have fully shed now. 🥰

I had the very fortunate experience of knowing my leopard gecko before I got her. I work at a pet store as a groomer and every day when I saw her she would perk up and come see me. I introduced her to the whole family and she loved it. She's extremely outgoing anyway and I was her favorite person there so there was almost no adjustment period except she wanted me to help her eat because she wasn't used to being in a big tank for eating so she just wanted me to point it out. Every time I adjusted something, she would make a round around the tank and approve everything. 😅
I actually am having the same experience minus the groomer part!
@@hiveminds2988 after only a couple months of having her actually she will come out at the sound of my voice (when she wants to that is 😅) and will let me hand feed her and let me help her get stuck on shed off.
Darn it. I needed this three weeks ago! Me and Chickpea (gecko) have managed without it, but this is a really useful guide and mentions most of the things that have happened to us so far: not eating at first, not eating before shedding, still not getting as far as picking her up (though she is now approaching my hand to investigate), and most of all the endless worry that I'm doing a bad job. You have reassured me. Thank you! Also, thanks for your other leopard gecko videos that helped me research before bringing Chickpea home 😊
Got my baby on Wednesday. I can't stop worrying about him!! lol😅
I've had my leo for about six months. For the first week I did stress out and had to force myself not to check on her every 15 minutes, lol. She's doing great! My only issue is keeping the humidity down. It stays around 50 - 55 %, which is about where my entire house is during the summer months. I've tried several tricks that I found online but can't seem to get it below 50.
any updates on fixing humidity! need help!
I use a basking lamp and that has helped with my humidity levels
I’ve switched to a deep heat projector and it’s knocked mine from 58 ish to 33 now, the bulb was a little pricey but well worth it
I have a dhp and ceramic (for night), my humidity is 50-60%. I have socks stuffed with rice on the tank as well as 2, mini dehumidifiers..still 50+. But! I did use excavator clay and I wonder if its 100% dry. Its been a week since I set the clay up.. Any other ideas?
@@connormcddit’s dried my humid hide 😅
ive had my leo for 3 years and i adore him 🥰
They have such amazing little personalities. 😊
I just got my first Ball Python and I love him soooo much. I’m an old lady (60) but that doesn’t mean I can’t love reptiles!!!🤣😂🐍
This is perfect! I just brought my baby home and want to make sure I don't accidentally traumatize him lol
same hear!!!! thanks Elle!!!😄
Thank you, I just turned 13 today so I was finally able to sub, yesterday my dad said I would be getting a leopard gecko this saturday, I am so excited. Your videos really helped me to better understand how to care for them. Thank you! ❤ if it is a girl I will name it elsey but if it's a boy it'll be coop, I will try to give you an update on my leo next week.
How's your gecko doing?
Every video is better than the one before. Keep up the great work. Thank you!
Great video. Made me feel less nervous. I have been researching leopard geckos and was interested in getting one.
Thank you for this video! i just got a mack snow leo yesterday and this video helped so much.
Good morning Elle, hope you're Sunday is magical!!! Seriously enjoy all you're videos!!!
Thank you so much! And have an amazing week! 😊
@@ellesreptiles thank you Ma'am 😊
Life saver videos! I just got a Leopard gecko for my son and all these information is very valuable. I feel a lot better now uff! ;) thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Ahh soo many cute little babies! 8:00 brilliant video and information!
This video was very helpful I appreciate the time you took to help us new reptile keepers
Happy Sunday Elle another brilliant video!!!
I never had any sort of reptile before. I really am considering getting a Leo and I have been researching plenty of videos but am still so scared I will do something wrong lol. Thanks for the helpful video!!
It's very normal to be worried when you get any pet, but especially your first reptile. But you're on the right track, doing the research first. You'll do great! 😊
FIRST! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!! I’m getting my Leo today 🥰❤️
Oh yay! Congratulations! 🎉🎉🎉
I just brought home my first leopard gecko and I am so excited
Lol thanks for this it’s our third day with our leopard gecko, it wasn’t eating and lo and behold it’s shedding!
Perfect timing. Just got my baby :)
I use simple wifi camera on my new tank 😅 I peep on them all the time, I have notification on for movements and there are clips from those movements so I know everything 🤓 It helped me so much, because I found out very quickly that my new leo doesn't even come close to the moist hide even though she was shedding and I could quickly change the position of the moist hide close to the heat source and changed the stuff inside. Since that she's inside 90% of the time 😅
Love the video you should make on for cresties
just had a rescued bearded dragon from improper care around 2 weeks ago and am continuing my research for getting leopard geckos hopefully within the next year :)
i got an adult crestie from a breeder and i fell in love with him in under a minute his name is echo the gecko and he has already changed my life... thanks to you i found my first reptile... :)
Your so knowledgeable! I love your channel 😍 Giovanni and I need a you! Keep up the Reptile luv
I'll be getting a leo in the near future, it'll be my first reptile and I am already stressing myself out a bit. I know I will be worried that the humidity is not right, that it is too hot on the warm side, or it is too cold etc. I just want my little man, or lady, to be perfectly happy in their home. With that said, I am taking my time reading and learning on how to properly care for them and I really appreciate your videos so much, they have taught me a lot already.
I am getting my leopard gecko next month and this helps
Awesome! And I'm glad the video was helpful! 😊
Hey another great video, you make it seem so easy to understand proper husbandtry of any reptile. Never thought that I would consider owning a gecko.
Awwww well thank you! 🥰
@@ellesreptiles I feel like a bad owner I helped him the first day I got him it's been stressful with a baby gecko I feel like I have been doing Everything rong idk what I'd going on
@@breaunasreptileworld it’s okay we learn from our mistakes
Lol been about a week and Coco definitely figured out when time to eat 🤣. Wiggles it's butt when hunting crickets.
Cool I actually have been thinking about getting one
Hi Elle! Thanks for the video. Just got my first Leopard gecko has a father/daughter project. We have both been researching for a few months and finally got our new Gecko 2 days ago. We haven't tried to feed him yet since he was fed the morning We got him but will try tonight. I have bee n a nervous wreck because he is pretty skidish. But from your advise will leave him alone. Still stressed but you made us feel normal for freaking out.
Definitely normal to be worried/stressed about your new reptile 🥰
Congrats and good luck with your new leopard gecko!
Elle you are so beautiful and so lovely to learn from. Thank you for always making my day with your video/posts ♥️
I’ve had my leopard gecko about 4 weeks now he’s a blazing blizzard!!
Awesome video I love leopard geckos I got my leopard gecko in a desert setup I named him snake eye
I just bout a leopard gecko for my 7yr old daughter!!! thanks for this video ❤
I just want that bottle on the shelf! :)
Always love seeing your vids. Ty for what you do. Quick ? Where do I get that bottle or vase with the gecko print on it?
Thank you! 😊
It's just a Contigo brand water bottle (from Target or Walmart), and I made the gecko vinyl sticker to go on it. 😊
You’re the best
I was curious if any vet would check it lol. Makes sense. Also love your vids I'm planning to get a bearded dragon next Saturday and the vids help a lot
In my area they do! 😊 But maybe call around and find out for your specific area.
And I'm so glad the videos help! Congrats on your (soon to be) new beardie! 🎉😊
I am Blessed because the local mom and pop pet store specializes I reptiles and I can get all the feeders I need plus all the bedding lights and tanks I would need. They are great people. I really liked this video it was great. The water bottle setting on the shelf behind you with leopard gecko on it is really cool looking.was wondering where you got it?
GOD BLESS 🦎💖🦎💖🦎💖
I love my little bearded dragon he’s finally getting bigger but it takes forever
Hi Elle!!! You are such a good leo owner. My parents are considering getting me one for Christmas. I have done 4 years of research, and still do more to make sure if I get one, I will make it happy. Do you have any advice?
Ah, yes. The sign of a reptile house: strange white powder everywhere because the babies like to walk in it.
Such a helpful video!! Quick question, Is it better to get a baby or juvenile/adult?
Hi I love your videos and I want a leopard gecko for Xmas.
Hey can you make a video on super giant leopard geckos, do they have any different care requirements? There aren’t that many videos on them, just curious about your opinion.
My leopard gecko is three months old he in the reptiles shop so I can get the tank sorted out
I got a leopard gecko about 2 weeks ago… had the tank all set up, 3 hides, UTH and temp gun to measure temps. After several days of not eating, I fed her with tweezers and she ate well… but hasn’t touched her food since. She also doesn’t seem to move from her warm hide (floor temps 90-92). I’ve taken her out twice, and she seems okay (except for the funky eyes-halfway-closed thing her morph, Noir Desire Black Eye, is known for). Should I be concerned? Maybe she’s just coming out only really late at night?
Hi Elle! My daughter loves your videos! She has been doing lots of research on leopard geckos since I told her she can have one. I am going to purchase one soon but was wondering if you have your favorite place you purchase your reptiles from. I’m not sure I want to get it from Petco or PetSmart.
Reptile Expos if you can! That allows you to walk around and get the exact gecko you want from a breeder, to ask questions, and to make sure you're getting a healthy pet.
You can also try morphmarket.com (another place to buy directly from breeders)
There's also the route of getting one from Craigslist (there's always people rehoming leopard geckos)
i feel bad because i moved their surroundings because i stupidly got a 5 gallon for a baby even though they grow quick. i just bought a 20 gallon and switched him because i felt so bad but i hope mushu isnt too stressed out
SECOND! i have a bearded dragon and getting a leo soon
That's so awesome! 😁
Thank you so much because I’m so worried what happens about that because I’m gonna get a gecko so thank you for saying that video that really made a lot to me
Just got me leo. She's up on one of her little hides, and keeps staring out of the tank. What should I do? She ate, but she just keeps staying still and looking outside. Is this fine?
Edit: I set everything up fine, and she ate 1 superworm, but she just keeps looking out and stuff. I also don't have a backing, so can I just get a piece of plywood and just place it on the sides & back? I also put another worm in, but she just ignored it. (She WAS glass surfing, but she isn't much anymore, and all the temps and humidity are fine, she has lots of space, etc. It fit all the things..)
ok so I just got mine today and it’s 3:30 am and he hasn’t moved in awhile should I worry !
Never had one before but got one last night told its 2 months old and to me its strangley chilled. It did eat the 1st night and it comes out and lies out in the open, dosnt seem to mind being handled but to me im worried it is stressed have told my son to leave it for a while to settle in but came back today and his had it out and moved stuff around. So i wasnt to happy. I know his excited but feel to much to soon will stress the gecko out. Think i need a lock on tank
Any good name suggestions for my leo just got him
Hi! I know this is a week old video but I hope u can still respond :) I’m planning on getting a leopard gecko but my concern is would i still need heating pads even tho i live in a very hot country? Average temp here is what the gecko requires so i’m wondering if they still need those? Thank uu
I need some serious advice . Yesterday my 6 month old leopard Gecko some how climbed out of her tank and ended up stuck in a sticky mouse trap.. it was extremely difficult to get her out as we knew nothing about the sticky traps. Today she seems better but I do not know how to tell for sure. One eye was stuck and it looks bad. How can I help her ? Her tail is mangled..and so are her tiny feet..I can send you a video of her if you want to assess her condition. I feel like she is suffering..
The amount of stress this video relieves is insane, thank you!
Yay! That makes me so happy 🥰
What a coincidence, today is actually day 7 with my very first Leopard Gecko 😁 (And first reptile in general.)
He arrived to me with stuck shed on the tip of his tail. I think it may already be cutting circulation because it’s quite red and looks like a slit or cut. If you (or anyone reading!) has experienced this before or has any tips to help, I’d really appreciate it. I don’t want to try manually pulling it since he’s still settling in and it is his tail afterall...
i know its 10 monnths to late but a bath that doesnt go above their shoulders and massage it off
Is it a bad idea to get a leopard gecko from Petsmart or Petco?
Can you do a breeding gecko video
Mine wont eat (its the first week) But she climbs into my hands?
whered you get that shirt???
I used to sell them on our Etsy shop, but I just couldn't find a manufacturer that made the sweaters that actually help up over time. So now we just sell the short sleeve version
I got a leo 4 weeks ago, He is scared of my hand ((Still taming him))
Yea they can definitely be a bit scared of... Everything.... At first. They're the sweetest when they're older/settled in though 🥰
@@ellesreptiles Yeah! My lil guy is a juvenile
No way. Never go to chain pet stores
I definitely recommend against buying reptiles at chain pet stores! And I suggest buying local if you can. 😊 However for some, chain pet stores are their only option. I live in the south, and I couldn't get bugs shipped to me for weeks and weeks on end due to the temperature, and the closest family owned pet store to me is 30 minutes away if there's no traffic. With my family situation, this just isn't possible for me all the time.
With chain pet stores, it's all about their P-O-S system. They see the number and order based on supply/demand. And I just personally feel like they'd be pretty ok stores if they only sold pet feeders and supplies. 😊
At least you are leopard gecko is not a frightened neurotic nervous wreck the tries to bite you if you pick it up from above. Mine is a very healthy captive-bred colormorph. Maybe it's a male thing. It is a pretty voracious eater of reasonably sized dubia roaches but it turns its nose up at tong feeding. The psycho bastard drew blood when it bit me hard that time. Not the docile species I thought it was, it is no bearded dragon.
Poor animal... Tiles and some kind of carpet... Jail time for the rest of his life!
I know you have other more specific videos but you were super vague in this video
Correct. They're vague since this isn't a care guide, it's just a "quick tips" video. So basically for people who are just excited and getting ready to bring their leo home.
