Your enclosure looks great! One thing I swear by that could be added for additional climbing are the Magnatural ledges. They look like rock or mushrooms and attach on the inside walls with magnets. Just an additional way to use wall space.
Need your help. Tried all the different types of substrate. Eco earth. Mocha does not like it. She seemed to like the carpet one. How I know she don't like Eco earth. She won't walk on it. The terrarium liner she walks on it normal. The little princess. How do I now keep the humidity up.
J. T. mist the tank and (s)he probably doesn’t like the eco earth because eco earth can impact their arms badly. it is like walking on very wet sand at the beach
Devynthecatwithsocks under tank heater is required. You can do a lamp as an addition but the mat is needed. Aft geckos like to be warmed up from their belly.
for dirt as the substary when you clean the cage do you just take like a spoon and scoop out the poop or do you empty the whole cage and then refill it with dirt????
You're brill! Honestly I live in the UK and people confuse leopard geckos and the fat tailed too often! Probably due to thwm being as popular! Theirs barely any vids, education the fat tail, I've recently got a fat tailed gecko the exact same as yours, named spyro, male! This vid properly educated me on how to set up, etc thank you!!! X
John Smith these geckos usually pick a corner of their enclosure to “relieve themselves”. Clean up after then after they do so, usually a day after they eat. I usually clean my tank once a month or once every two months. Kinda varies. They’re not dirty animals.
Do you only use a heatpad or do you use overtank heating as well? Also do you put the thermostat on top of the substrate? I know this is an old video but I hope you see this comment!
So nice! I just started watching your channel. You're so cute and sweet, such a gentle young lady, I can tell you love your animals and you definitely have a soft, tender heart! I will subscribe, Daisy!
I love your videos! My tank for my fat tail has the same substrate. What’s your temperature on the thermostat for the heat pad? I don’t want it to hot but not hot enough for it to help
The basking spot should be about 90F, measured by a temperature gun. Heat mats are not a good heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.
Okay I have a few questions because this is my first African fat tailed gecko. First off, do they like to climb because I've seen him trying to climb out of his enclosure? And secondly, is there any way to tell if the gecko is happy with it's enclosure and food?
I only feed mine in a dish. if you free feed crickets, then it could be a bit risky, but overall it's still usually safe for them! a healthy AFT can pass any eco earth if it does get ingested. overall, eco earth is safe for most AFTs!
Emma Lynne Sampson Ah gotcha. Yeah she only eats crickets that free roam around her tank at night. She refuses to eat worms of any kind and doesn't like bowls @-@ So I'm kinda conflicted
brittany showers I only use a heating pad Personally. Leopard geckos often have sensitive eyes so I like to avoid lights, and they need belly heat to digest their food so heat pads are preferred. If you need additional heat on top of a heat pad I would recommend a ceramic heat emitter in order to avoid bright lights!
They do need a humid hide as they go in there to help with their shedding. They lay up against the live wet moss which helps them to get the shed off. Also never remove the shed as they naturally eat it.
What temperature do you keep the heat mat at? Some people say 110 which I find insane and others say 80-90... right now mines at 86 kinda in the middle but I’m not sure...
My brother got a African fat tailed gecko like 5 days ago and she is about 2-3inches she is super tiny she is only like weeks old and she is in a 10 gallon tank is that ok?
Currently in the process of getting everything I need for an ATF. Any suggestions that I should need to know or keep in mind ? I’ve done a lot of research watch hundreds of videos.
Emily Cabarle as long as your temperatures are high enough, there’s really is no risk. African fat tail geckos are fully capable of passing any eco earth if it is digested. It’s much less of a risk than it is with leopard geckos. AFTs are designed to live on dirt, unlike leopard geckos who naturally live on a hard, clay like surface. Keep in mind that while they have similar body shape, they’re completely different animals, and designed to live in very different conditions
Nature Zone they have different care from leopard geckos. AFTs are tropical animals, and leopard geckos are desert animals. They’re also much pickier animals. Please make sure you’re doing lots of research on them, as they are very different.
It’s usually for baby reptiles because ingesting can cause impaction. But its also said that mixing with a wood mulch type mix and I forget what’s it’s called but I’m pretty sure it’s by zoomed will help so they don’t ingest it. Also if u were to use it, watch ur pet eat and rinse out mouth with water if ingestion happens. Eco earth is just better for humidity up keep and much better than sand
Depends on the individual, my fat tails are super engaged when I go over to the tanks, will eat from my hand. One of them in particular is a complete baby, comes out of his hide when I call his name and sleeps on me when I'm on the couch watching TV. A general difference between the two is Leo's are faster and more active when handled, AFT's are generally more chill, again this can vary by individual. Hope this helped.
I''m looking into Either African Fat Tail Geckos or Leopard Geckos I want a small group of at the most 4 Females I have a 40 Gallon Breeder Bearded Dragon kit I never used but I decided it's to small for a Bearded Dragon so I'm looking into either Female Leopard Geckos or Female African fat Tail Geckos is my Enclosure too large? Lizards, unlike some snakes, love larger enclosures. It's usually recommend to have 20 gallons per gecko, so your 40 is perfectly fine. :) As long as there's plenty of hides, they will love and explore every inch of their enclosure. For lizards, the bigger, the better!

Anthony Giroux I have one too, her name is Zelda!
@Unbiased that’s cool! Leopard Geckos are so cute!
What about the humid hide??, they need one in order to shed properly and they also like to lay in them at time
their cage is humid enough so they don’t necessarily need one. you can have one but it’s not needed.
Aw your thumbnail was cute lol 💗 that gecko is so pretty 😭💗

Look who's researching a fat-tailed gecko even though i got my snake yesterday and I'm supposed to be revising for my science exam.
would you reccomend a lamp or a mat for heating?

Aft geckos like to be warmed up from their belly.
Gorgeous colours ❤️ and her set up is beautiful too
Just discovered your channel and so glad I did! I love how you care so much for your animals and are informative for your viewers. Keep it up!
This inspired me to get a geko thanks 😊
I might get a fat tailed gecko so im very excited!
Super helpful! I’m hopefully going to get one soon!
What heat pad do you use and how much substrate have you found you’ve been able to put over it and still have it be warm enough?
Jeni I use zoomed ones, and the amount of substrate should not matter as you should always be using a thermostat to control the temperature.
ECO EARTH ahh i just finished watching another girls video where she found a baby scorpion in her evo earth and it was in her fat tail tank
Daisy is so cute. Nice set up.

Hi there, do these lizards need UV light or do they prefer it darker?
She looks like a leopard gecko with a really cool morph and a shorter tail
My fat tail has a metal net on the cover. Is this preventing humitity? Should I cover it?
Thanks for making this cause my cuz just got one and loves her and I’m thinking of getting one so thanks for making this I’m so thankful

How necessary is it to dechlorinate the water used to hydrate my eco earth substrate?

I have an AFT, but I'm honestly really hesitant to use a loose substrate. Won't it cause impaction?

Emma Lynne Sampson it’s good to let them hunt crickets, much healthier and new stimulating. Eco earth won’t impact them if they’re healthy.
Definitely get eco earth! They can dig in it, and it holds humidity well. It won’t impact them if they’re healthy :)
You know what good mother she would be .
where did you get Daisy from? i really want to buy an African Fat-Tailed Gecko, but i’m not sure where to get one from 😕
for leopard geckos do you use a heating pad and a heating lap, or do you use like just one of them?

are aft geckos fine with living on rather loose substrate? please let me know
This was a year ago but these guys are normally fine with it, avoid sand though sand can cause imp action in all reptiles
what type of supplements do you need to give Daisy? I'm trying to figure out which type of lizard I should get for my first and I really like the AFT
My Leo has 2 ivy vines and 2 fake ones like a tree and the other is like a green n purple bush

Do you have a video like this for leopard geckos??
My brother got a African fat tailed gecko like 5 days ago and she is about 2-3inches she is super tiny she is only like weeks old and she is in a 10 gallon tank is that ok?
A 10 gallon is just fine for a baby! I would recommend getting her a bigger cage as she grows, but a 10 gallon will be just fine for a while!
Yes we are planning to get her a bigger tank as she get older and bigger! Thank you so much!
What’s thermometer and hygrometer do you use, and what heat mat?
Can u do a care video for these amazing animals? Love u Emma❤
Are you supposed to use a heating pad instead of a heating lamp for these type?
Yes
Can u use that substrate if your using live plants for a Pygmy chameleon?
What size tank did u get and from what store??
Wanna redesign my African fat tailed geckos cage

alcohol tobacco and firearms? (ATF)
Does anyone know where to get ATF in Washington state. I can’t find any reputable sites or breeders
Looks good very natural
I know this was from a long time ago but I would love some help I have a 20 gallon long would that work for 2 fat tail geckos
no, they're solitary animals and should be kept alone. a 20 gallon long would work for one
Aren’t AFT supposed to be on a reptile carpet? Or are they completely different from LG?
Emily Cabarle They're not super different but AFTS need higher humidity and eco earth holds humidity more
AFTs are different from leopard geckos. AFTs need tropical conditions, so high humidity. Eco earth is the most recommend substrate for AFTs
Emma Lynne Sampson how would you avoid things like impaction?
Emily Cabarle as long as your temperatures are high enough, there’s really is no risk. African fat tail geckos are fully capable of passing any eco earth if it is digested. What size is the terrerium cage?
English is not my first language so i didn’t get what is the size of the terarium
They need a 20 gallon long bare minimum, ideally 40 gallons or bigger (36x18x18”).
How long do you leave the lamp on??
Um do you by any chance know the size of exo terra size i should use for my gecko?
Is the substrate you're using good for young Fat Tailed Geckos? I've read certain substrates can be bad for them especially young.
Do you have a heat math under the cage

Can you use this for a 1 week old baby fat tail?
I love the smaller arboreal enclosure in the background
can you do cage tours of all your pets' cages??
I want a African fat tailed gecko. Is their care much different than a leopard gecko?

Thank you I will😀
Everyone tells me not to use ecoearth because it's a loose substrate
