  • Good Morning, Reptilians! In the last of this three part series (for now), we're looking at Petco's Leopard Gecko Care Guide vs Petsmart's. Hopefully you guys didn't get too bored of these, I just had a few people request leopard geckos, so I wanted to do that one, too. 😊. This one is a lot longer than I expected, but there was just so much wrong with both of them. 😬

    I worked at PetSmart for 5 years. Not sure about other stores, but the one I worked at had crazy animal lover employees and we took great care of our small animals. Refused to sell to idiots who had no idea what they were doing, and we handled our reptiles daily during closed hours to encourage socialization with humans.

      thats awesome to hear. I went to buy a leopard gecko to my local Petsmart. They didn't know which one was leopard gecko. The worker was like I think it is this one because it has a fat tail.🤣🤣 She called manager and she was looking for straps.🤣she was not sure too. when I couldn't listen their crazy stuff I nicely told them some how to identify and care about geckos.

    About 22 years ago I got a baby leopard gecko from Petsmart and followed all of their care guides and what they told me when I bought it. I did not use sand, I used reptile carpet. I can’t remember if we used any heat, but we definitely didn’t have a thermostat. (I still can’t understand why they don’t sell them.) They associate said I only needed to feed it once a week and could just dump a bunch of crickets in. The crickets attacked the gecko and I remember the trauma of trying to get them and the gecko out. Within 2 months that gecko was dead. I think from impaction. And probably malnutrition. I’m still not over it 22 years later. And I can still see its little body when I found it dead. Took me 20 years to be able to get another one. And luckily she’s doing great!! So much easier to find care info nowadays.

    Ive gotten a non adhesive shelf liner for my soon-to-be leopard gecko tank, i was actually questioning if it was safe as ive only seen it in feeding areas for snakes, im glad to see its safe for my gecko thatll arrive sometime february
    The tanks full of fake pink-yellow flowers so the leo can easily hide, a small container for mealworms and calcium, a moist hide that looks like a lemon, and a cool and warm hide that look like coconuts, and a heat mat underneath 1/4 of the tank, the only thing i believe i need is a water dish but unfortunately i have to quarantine because my grandpa got covid when visiting the hospital

    Hey! New subscriber here, and I’m so confused… lol!! Confused about the part of this video where you begin to say how you don’t recommend night lighting for geckos, so if you don’t recommend a black night bulb, red bulb, or blue night bulb , what do you recommend? No light at night? I’ve had leopard geckos for about 5 years now and currently own 3. It’s been my learned information and then applied personal experience that none of my geckos have a good night/day cycle at all without adding night and day lighting. Without night lighting my geckos are very lethargic and unmotivated to even come out of their daytime hides. All of my gecko tanks have uva/uvb lighting, incandescent lighting for some hours per day, heat mats and basking lights then blue night light bulbs for the nighttime. Without the night lights, none of my geckos even ate well.
    I’m wondering what your experience or opinions are in this!
    Thanks!

    As luck would have it, of my three geckos the one that does not want to handled is the first to have a stuck shed issue. How long should I wait to see if she gets it before I stress her out and do it myself? It’s on her nose.
    She let me rub it with my finger but I couldn’t get it. She freaked out when I tried a cotton swab.

    • @elizabethturner4724
      @elizabethturner4724 3 роки тому

      Don’t peel the shed. Little pieces are fine but if it’s really stuck don’t try to rip it off. Up the moisture or give them a nice soak in warm dechlorinated water. There’s also shed aids if you really need help.

    I've been yelled at from one of the stores that putting them in a large 40+ gallon tank is terrible and they will never use the space. 20 is the best they said and angrily got mad at me when I politely told them they were being rude to me. I didn't like a hide as well because it was tiny for my leopard gecko they got angrier that I politely didn't like the size and went for a bigger one. I felt so awkward when I said I did research and they told me I didn't do enough. 🙃 my gecko is bigger than what they claimed all of them are the same size. They said they use all the stuff they suggested for their Leo's and 100% was worried for their reptiles..... luckily I've never seen them back there again. Hopefully they got fired for how rude they were. It wasn't just that person from that store too. They gave me dead bugs. (Because my local store was closed and I just needed a touch up of bugs supply.) They were all dead. Their excuse was they are in brumation. Um..... they were not in a cold erea. Luckily the cashier told me. "I wouldn't want you to buy these it's not fair of them". Lol was also the manager saying that. 😂 that was the last time I EVER want to go there. 🙃
    No one should be yelled at when getting a bigger tank. Or did research before getting the supplies. That one place will not name it was the worst I've ever been in. 🥲 they also told I should ooooonly feed crickets and wax worms everything else is bad. I do hope they were joking they had reptiles at home. I would be so so soooooo worried they will pass away. And claimed red light is the only light I need to use. 🥲 if anyone had this advice please please don't purchase anything and to research at home and the go get supplies. 🙏 because most of the time the advice can or not be great at all! 🥲
