Very upsetting but I’m doing my best so thank you for the help!

She would arch her little back if i pet her back and she loved being on my families shoulder. We fed her wax worms as a treat once a week and thankfully she never really grew picky or anything like that. She was also pretty docile, only really spooked/moved quickly if a loud noise happened or during hunting. I just set up my tank for my first "independent" pet (Ive moved out of my house for college) and this little guy is so active! I only have a humid hide, a half log and a water bowl at the moment, im going to get maybe a bark/log (i forget the name of it, its like a piece of wood thats kinda big and natural looking) and a few suction cup leafage maybe. Im also having some trouble with the heating pad I was recommended by the reptile center i got him at. (setting goes from Low to high but intructions mention temps and im like "how am i supposed to correlate this together??") so im gonna get a thermostat to measure the temps, and it turns off the pad when it reaches set temps! Im calling him "Monster" right now but honestly i love the fact hes super cute but with a name like that, so i may keep it.

So I see everywhere about waxworms being addictive but great as a treat. Got some for my little guy to try as a treat, tried giving it to him and oh my! The sound of disgust he produced as he bit into the waxworm! 😂 Shook his head almost with a grimace, spit him out and backed away into his hide LOL wish I knew that was going to happen, would have taken a video!
I've had 3 bearded dragons (my wife has had 4, as she had one before we met). We've had a leopard gecko for 2 years, as my neighbor, who owns/owned several reptiles and a parrot, had to get rid of a few of them, and my wife and I were blessed to have gotten a leopard gecko, who is absolutely beautiful and wonderful. Also, he is hand-fed 99% of the time, but I digress. I've learned to different male and female bearded dragons (particularly if they're adult). I do not, however, know how to tell the difference between adult geckos. Is there any way that a layman, such as myself, can tell the difference between a male and female gecko? More specifically, a leopard gecko? I would greatly appreciate any tips or resources that you can recommend! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on these wonderful creatures! Blessings and kind regards!
One thing I'd like to know, is it ok for them to cohabitate? My parents made me get 2 when i was getting 1 because they "didn't want it to die, because they get lonely" but recently I keep seeing that they shouldn't be cohabitated, so now i feel really bad, and I don't have another tank if I do need to seperate them, I mean they're both females and they seem to get along just fine, but I want to give them the best lives possible, and I'm starting to worry that I'm not doing the best job, because i don't want them to be stressed, I've had them for around 2 months now and their names are El and Max, I really love them and i just want the best for them Edit: I also feel the need to mention that they both eat really well, i give them 10-12 mealworms every other day and they seem like a good weight, pretty chubby, not skinny, but not obese, along with the fact that the lady at the pet store told me i have to use this fake little grass mat thing while they're babies cause they'd accidentally eat soil or whatever, which means she didn't really know what she was talking about, and now i feel the need to get them some soil and possibly a heat lamp
I'm thinking about getting a leopard gecko or 2. Is it better to get 2 from the same place, where they are in the same tank? Or just 1 at a time? I do have a older bearded dragon so I'm kinda knowledgeable in the feedings and lighting/warmth etc. Obviously I wouldn't put them together.
thank you for the advice, especially the stubborn phase one. my gecko unfortunately got attacked (my cat broke into my lizards enclosure even though my door was closed and the enclosure was closed) she lost her tail, refuses to eat, and never comes out. im going to downgrade her enclosure and add nice hides
@@nightinggale6470 she doesn’t seem to like this enclosure, she never went out, even at night. also i think she is stressed from the bad experience so i think she will benefit from a temporary downgrade
@@xoxorosequartz as long as it’s only temporary, not permanent. She should do fine in a larger enclosure as long as there’s plenty of clutter and plant coverage, and not too much open space. Covering three sides of the enclosure helps as well. Adult leopard geckos need a 20 gallon long bare minimum, and 40 gallons or bigger is strongly recommended.
@@nightinggale6470 yeah i have her in my bp’s old enclosure (40 gallons) the top was bad quality so my cat was able to go in (never using zoomed terrariums again) i’m planning on going down to 20 (or 25) temporarily until her tail is fully grown back
I love the deep heat projectors but just a disclaimer they do emit light. It’s extremely small amounts but you can see it at night. It’s more obvious on cameras with night vision.
Fyi, halogens are more natural and beneficial than DHPs. The levels of infrared A and B they produce more closely mimic the sun (DHPs produce barely any IRA, the most beneficial wavelength) :)
Would a deep heat projector be beneficial for an anole you think? I have a heat bulb for her right now. Since she has a quality UVB I would think it could work?
Unfortunately, my leopard gecko died😢 I don’t know if it was me or the previous owner just didn’t research enough but either way I feel I could’ve done better
Thanks for this video! Great timing, actually. I just got a Leopard Gecko last week and have been a little confused as to what to use for lighting/hearing. Right now I have an Arcadia Shadedweller for UVB and day cycle and a Ceramic Heat Emitter for all day and night heat. I did get a Fluker’s dimmable dome and an Arcadia 50W halogen bulb to hook up, which I’ve not done yet. Then I will switch the heat emitter to just night heat. But now I seen your recommendation for a Deep Heat projector! So, with that, and the UVB, is that all you use or still need a daytime basking bulb? On the Deep Heat Projector, I see Arcadia sells two domes…a 5” and an 8”. Thinking maybe the 50W heat projector bulb with the 5” dome? He’s in an Exo-Terra front opening 40 gallon tank. Suggestions on what I have already VS implementing the Deep Heat projector would be awesome. Thank you!
Great decision to switch from just ceramic heat emitter to the Halogen basking bulb. Ceramic heat emitters are good for supplemental heating, but not great for the main source of heat. I absolutely love the Deep Heat Projectors: I just use it and UVB. 50W should work great for a 40 gallon tank - that's what I use, and I don't even have it turned all the way up. I'm not sure about the arcadia domes, as I've never used them. I just use a fluker's dome with a dimmable switch. As far as what to use, I would honestly just use the Halogen basking bulb until it blows (since you already bought it) and then, if you wanted to, switch to the DHP and try it out. Then you can decide which you/your leopard gecko like the best. 😊
if i need to help my bigboi shed, he doesnt want his skin anymore. i put it in the tank and leafe it a few days and if he not want it i put it in a jar. i got 3 and oh, absolute different minds. big kiri is a cuddly lover, peanut a flirty shy girl and her mate pixel, he hates everyone but loves his rubbys.
I give my leo only 2-3 wax worms a week, but she also eats crickets and mealworms (I can't find dubia roaches at my pet stores). I usually give her the wax worm after she lets me hold her for a bit.
I wouldn’t feed waxworms that often. You may be able to order roaches online. Other feeders to look into: Live silkworms and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly, super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better!
@@nightinggale6470 I don't feed her the waxworms that much, she was a bit on the skinnier side so I was doing it so she could fatten up. She eats crickets and mealworms, but isn't big enough for superworms and hornworms. I'll look into ordering the roaches online though :)
Oh no - I’m rehousing a leopard gecko that was really underfed and it was kind of a spur of the moment decision. The reptile store said feeding wax worms will fatten her up and I have wondered why she isn’t eating the roaches I got her as much. I think she’s totally addicted to the wax worms :/ tips in waning her off?
What do u use in her dig box? New foster mama - I think Gali is female and doesn’t seem to like the waxworms too much but ty so much for doing this list - can u do a vid on their Light setups? I’m still not sure I have hers right; the beardie I’m a lot more confident w the lighting.
I'm currently using an organic top soil (40%) , children's play sand (40%), and excavator clay(20%) mixture. They seem to really like it. 😊 I actually have a video on their heating and lighting already: ua-cam.com/video/E_MMesjEnlI/v-deo.html
Leopard geckos are sooo cool, almost as cool as cresties lol. I wish I could afford to set up an enclosure and get one, and produce or be able to order all the food. So expensive
My 2 geckos I have Hate having dirt like stuff in their tank haha I had their tanks when I first got them half flat with paper towels and half with a safe dig type stuff and they would refuse to go on the half of the tank with the dig stuff xD eventually I took it out entirely and got this reusable plastic flooring, now they like to run around and watch me come near their cages😂
Yes, succulents and possibly air plants. The ideal humidity range for leopard geckos is 35-65% (as measured by a digital hygrometer), so as long as it stays within that range, you’re good :)
Hi Elle, we got our Oscar last year from our daughter and didn't know a lot about them and we are still learning. But my worry is that something is wrong bc he sheds all the time, but he is also about 7 or 8 inches long now. He won't go in a moist hut. We have sprayed him a few times, but I am scared to pull the left over skin on his little feet. What do you suggest I do and what is best way to get him moisture? Thanks. Sorry so long on comments. Tammy
Maybe try to move the location of the moist hide if possible? As far as the toes, you can use a shed helper, or just keep spraying water on his toes. If he'll let you, you can also put him in a container with warm, wet paper towels on the bottom for about 10-15 minutes (make sure there are air holes of course). That should help his feet get some moisture.
I had my leopard gecko for 23 years. She got so old she can no longer remove her own shedding skin, and it does not shed evenly. I kind of wish it would die since she really is quite old. She no longer eats and is getting thinner. 23 years is REALLY old and is dying of old age. I never want another one since they live too long.
New reptiles should be quarantined on paper towel for the first three months to monitor their health. After, a soil/sand or soil/sand/clay mix is best; digging enrichment is very beneficial for leopard geckos!
I wish there was a way to add a picture because I have 2 female geckos from what I looked up and I wanna make sure that the terrarium is set perfect for them How can I do this I love your videos
Hey! Love the videos! I recently was given a leopard gecko from a coworker who no longer could care for him. Unfortunately, they only fed him wax worms and I'm afraid he's spoiled (and fat). What can I do to get him on crickets or roaches instead and only giving him wax worms as a treat?
Mine will only eat blue hornworms, I tried giving him waxworms, superworms, mealworms, crickets(most of which live in his tank with him). Lol I gave up trying to force him to eat other stuff, Weird on the no shoulder thing, mine has attempted an angel dive off me once, since has learned t just go into my Hoodie, pampered little king loves his walks
Remove uneaten insects, when left in the enclosure they may bite the gecko. A varied diet is ideal, hornworms don’t make the best staple. Try roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae. You can also try rubbing hornworm guts on other feeders. Good luck.
I am going to get my first leopard gecko if there's a list of things that I should look into getting to make sure the gecko is comfortable before I get the gecko and then by the gecko after I got the tank all setup and stuff what would be best
I’d offer more variety if possible. Live roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly, super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better!

Thank you so much. Have a wonderful week! 🥰
Yes! The eating thing at maturity. Definitely wish I knew that. Mine went maybe 2 months without eating. But only lost like 2% of her body weight.
Mine went months too and didn't lose much weight. It's such a random and strange thing.
Well I'm researching tf out of these lil ones
My mom is on vacation so when she comes back I gotta ask her and she will definitely say no so I gotta plan my convincing
My Ball Python grew out of its enclosure so I have a free one. Can't decide if I want a Leo or a Hognose, both are so awesome...
I rescued a bearded dragon and a leapord gecko both are truly my pride and joy. I have a 80 gallon tank for the bearded dragon which I know I have to expand. That being said my leapord gecko is in a 40 gallon tank and i handle him everyday. He is the best
It’s good that you’re planning on upgrading your beardie; they need a 4x2x2’ (120 gallon) enclosure minimum, and larger is ideal
😂 Well, I guess waxworms are one less thing you have to worry about!
Wanting a leopard gecko after an animal of mine recently passed. I hope to learn a ton about them!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
2:25 my gecko is really stuborn right now, she refuses to eat anything except crickets and wax worms
oh wait, she might just be addicted to Wax Worms, welp, I gotta work on that now
Is she still eating only waxworms?
@@nightinggale6470 she eats roaches and crickets. However, other worms are no go
Hello Elle, enjoyed the video and I love your shirt! Have a great week 😋
Thank you thank you! Have a wonderful week 😊
Blessings and kind regards!
ua-cam.com/video/hyGV-mtJH8c/v-deo.html I really liked the tutorial. I hope I'm allowed to post this. Elle, I mean no disrespect
One thing I'd like to know, is it ok for them to cohabitate? My parents made me get 2 when i was getting 1 because they "didn't want it to die, because they get lonely" but recently I keep seeing that they shouldn't be cohabitated, so now i feel really bad, and I don't have another tank if I do need to seperate them, I mean they're both females and they seem to get along just fine, but I want to give them the best lives possible, and I'm starting to worry that I'm not doing the best job, because i don't want them to be stressed, I've had them for around 2 months now and their names are El and Max, I really love them and i just want the best for them
Edit: I also feel the need to mention that they both eat really well, i give them 10-12 mealworms every other day and they seem like a good weight, pretty chubby, not skinny, but not obese, along with the fact that the lady at the pet store told me i have to use this fake little grass mat thing while they're babies cause they'd accidentally eat soil or whatever, which means she didn't really know what she was talking about, and now i feel the need to get them some soil and possibly a heat lamp
I’m glad for this video bc I have a leopard gecko that was kind of abandoned with me (I was pet sitting)
I do not recommend housing leopard geckos together, they do just fine alone and often fight when cohabbed.
thank you for the advice, especially the stubborn phase one. my gecko unfortunately got attacked (my cat broke into my lizards enclosure even though my door was closed and the enclosure was closed) she lost her tail, refuses to eat, and never comes out. im going to downgrade her enclosure and add nice hides
Why are you downgrading?
@@nightinggale6470 she doesn’t seem to like this enclosure, she never went out, even at night. also i think she is stressed from the bad experience so i think she will benefit from a temporary downgrade
@@xoxorosequartz as long as it’s only temporary, not permanent. She should do fine in a larger enclosure as long as there’s plenty of clutter and plant coverage, and not too much open space. Covering three sides of the enclosure helps as well. Adult leopard geckos need a 20 gallon long bare minimum, and 40 gallons or bigger is strongly recommended.
@@nightinggale6470 yeah i have her in my bp’s old enclosure (40 gallons) the top was bad quality so my cat was able to go in (never using zoomed terrariums again) i’m planning on going down to 20 (or 25) temporarily until her tail is fully grown back
Something I learned was that partially blind leopard geckos still enjoy bioactive setups and safely live in them.
So Pretty Curls
new gecko was not shy
I love the deep heat projectors but just a disclaimer they do emit light. It’s extremely small amounts but you can see it at night.
It’s more obvious on cameras with night vision.
Fyi, halogens are more natural and beneficial than DHPs. The levels of infrared A and B they produce more closely mimic the sun (DHPs produce barely any IRA, the most beneficial wavelength) :)
plus a halogen is better... halogen first and DHP second, as a halogen is closest to the sun.
I just got a leopard gecko and I've just fell in love with them now My name is charmander His name is charmander because hes kind of Orange
Oh no! I'm so sorry 💔💔💔
Hi Elle! How are you doing today 😄💜
I'm great! How are you? 🥰
Thank you for this video ! Also you’re very gorgeous! I had to subscribe
I just got a baby leopard gecko and it’s still really shy but I know it will like it’s home soon
Where did you get the pink dessert backdrop?! So cute!
Usually i hold my leos on my bed
I just got my leopard gecko yesterday.
I actually have a video on their heating and lighting already:

Very helpful thank You!
Glad it helped! 🥰

OMG! I am glad the wax worm thing isn't just one of my Leo issue. I have one that stopped eating everything because he got wax worms as treats.
I don't know what it is with those wax worms, but they just love them!!!!!
@@jeannacalloway2143 I think it's because they taste really sweet, like honey for them
Leopard geckos are sooo cool, almost as cool as cresties lol. I wish I could afford to set up an enclosure and get one, and produce or be able to order all the food. So expensive
Can u tell me more abt deep heat projectors too? What are they compared to the other lights and do u dc the main light?
Halogen is better than a deep heat projector, as a halogen is closest to the sun regarding the heat it gives out.
I want leopard gecko so BAD!!!!!!!❤
thank u!!!
Not sure how to feed it but I brought everything the store has for him
I’m going to go to the pet shop now and look at some small pets.
I’m in Love now
Great video. Thinking of getting my son a LG. Is that an aloe vera plant in the habitat?
so that's why my geck stoped eating all of sudden!
Hi Elle! are there any plants you can put in a Leo's tank?
I have heard it can be dangerous because of too much humidity but have always wanted to
Yes, succulents and possibly air plants. The ideal humidity range for leopard geckos is 35-65% (as measured by a digital hygrometer), so as long as it stays within that range, you’re good :)
Thank you for this info my leopard gecko is not eating she is shedding now
Hi Elle, we got our Oscar last year from our daughter and didn't know a lot about them and we are still learning.
@@ellesreptiles OK I will try that for sure. Thanks so much
I had my leopard gecko for 23 years. She got so old she can no longer remove her own shedding skin, and it does not shed evenly. I kind of wish it would die since she really is quite old. She no longer eats and is getting thinner. 23 years is REALLY old and is dying of old age. I never want another one since they live too long.
What’s the material that she’s climbing on at the end?
We feel for the sand sale at petco what do you suggest as substrate? Do they have your suggested material at petco or online?
New reptiles should be quarantined on paper towel for the first three months to monitor their health. After, a soil/sand or soil/sand/clay mix is best; digging enrichment is very beneficial for leopard geckos!
I ❤ my Leo. Fiest is so sweet.
🥰
Lol I gave up trying to force him to eat other stuff,
Weird on the no shoulder thing, mine has attempted an angel dive off me once, since has learned t just go into my Hoodie, pampered little king loves his walks
Remove uneaten insects, when left in the enclosure they may bite the gecko. A varied diet is ideal, hornworms don’t make the best staple. Try roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae. You can also try rubbing hornworm guts on other feeders. Good luck.
My beared dragon won't eat but he still poops what wrong with him
What’s the basking spot surface temperature and how is it being measured (analog thermometer, digital, or temperature gun)?
Should I get a 50 or 100w deep heat projector, I have a 90 aquarium
Can I use coconut fiber for my leapord gecko
I am going to get my first leopard gecko if there's a list of things that I should look into getting to make sure the gecko is comfortable before I get the gecko and then by the gecko after I got the tank all setup and stuff what would be best
Hey Elle! Im looking to get a leopard gecko soon is crickets, and mealworms enough diversity for food?
I’d offer more variety if possible. Live roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly, super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better!
Gali is a runner. All the time. Just darts. Bubyes 🤦🏻♀️
I have an older leopard gecko (6 or 7 years). Is it ok to get a juvenile and put it in the same tank?
Absolutely not.
What substrate do you use for your leopard geckos
A soil/sand or soil/sand/clay mix is best after quarantining on paper towel for the first three months to monitor their health.
ive read that i shouldnt dust + uvb bulb as it would be too much(i forget lol what it would be too much of) . what are your thoughts on this? ive also read that i dont need an above heat + under tank heat, what are your thoughts on this? I do mass research before getting any aminal and would love your input please
