The MXA wrecking crew typically focuses on high end motocross bikes, but in this video, we wanted to highlight a legendary motorcycle that's had a significant impact on the world and, more specifically, on our friend Bones. Jim "Bones" Bacon is a longtime Pro Circuit suspension guru and contributor to Motocross Action Magazine. In this video, we talk about the updated version of the Honda Trail 125 and Bones shares about why he likes this bike so much.

Thank you for spreading the Honda Trail love. I would like to expand your understanding of the features incorporated into these engineering wonders and provide a minor correction to the birthplace of the Honda trail motorcycle as well as give some more information.
Honda trail bikes actually have 2 clutches. One centrifugal and one manual which is incorporated into the shift pedal. The early 50 and 55s had three-speed transmissions and the new CT125s are 4 speed.
Herb Uhl started modifying the Honda Super Cub C100 49cc motorcycle in Boise, ID for trail use in 1959. His son Billy started out racing one as well. Honda shot some of the “Hunting with Hondas” film in ID and he is the one riding the blue one with a double seat. He is still alive and rode my 1966 Super Cub this summer.

It doesn’t look like it will fit the new bike.

The yellow Trail 90 is a 1966. From 1967 foreword was the dual range transmission (not dual sprockets). Also the yellow one is missing the gray vinyl wrop around the frame down tube.
I owned a 1968 (bought from original owner in 1969), with dual range, with the handle bars that could be swiveled, like the red 110 you show.
Possibly that was added by a dealer, it was available on the 1967 Trail 70, then on the 1969 Trail 90.
1969 foreword had the new telescope shocks.

I’d love to have one. I don’t know what I’d do with it.

Cool bikes but what kind of chair does Bones have? Never seen a chair with a pair of shocks. 😄 Looks comfy.

Put new shocks on the rear..Bones will upgrade the forks with a few kits out there. Much nicer with firm suspension!

One thing is that the original early 60's trail was a 55. I own several, and they are pretty flimsy compared to the new 125, albeit a lot lighter.

Hahaha, I own one and I immediately did not like that bar behind the seat. I am about to order a whole new set-up and grind that bar off.

This 125 won't crawl up hills like the 110. I'm 270 and the110 will take me up any hill. If the 124 had 5 more horsepower, maybe I'd buy the 125. It's still under powered.
