Unfortunately the temperatures here in the UK have warmed back up, but I still have my fingers crossed for some snowy camps in the mountains after the holidays!
Great video, lovely stove. Dad was Polish so of course, I like the lavvu but not a fan of floorless tents. I see that's best for having a stove not on top of flammable material. I also enjoyed seeing the special floor mat you use. Looks like a great insulator. Cool that you had a CO detector. Perhaps someone will make tent stoves with a cold air draw from outside to eliminate using preheated air to get sucked into the stove to feed the fire and avoid CO buildup. Less wood will be necessary as you're not constantly heating fresh air that seeps in to replace what went up the chimney. So surprised that for one night you actually cooked a meal instead of opening a can of stew. Looked tasty. Kudos for showing how comfortable one can be with a little planning. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I typically only get one night out for a camp once or twice a month so I try to make the most of it and make myself a nice meal. I really enjoy cooking 😀! Hope you have a great New Year! ATB
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. I’ve enjoyed your videos very much, thank you. Looking forward to your videos in the new year!
Perfect winters evening entertainment this, thank you for taking me along.. That chilli looked totally amazing! 😋 I’m also really looking forward to doing a snow wild camp - out in the hills sometime in January, fingers crossed…❄️☃️⛺️ Looking forward to seeing your new tent in action. I too have a new shelter, ready to try out this Boxing Day evening 👍🏻
👍 Thanks for watching Scoot! Yeah, I’m hoping the temperatures drop again and we get some more snow soon! 🤞❄️ Always so much fun to try out a new tent! Enjoy! ATB
Great video as usual. Thanks for taking the trouble to film it. Is there any way of turning the heat down on those stoves, other than not adding more wood, to enable simmering?
Excellent yet again. Inprobably can dissect the meals and become gourmet in my own home. Indid want tonask you if you have seen the Tarp tent scarp 1 and your thoughts on it
Thanks! I am currently building a website where I plan to share the recipes for all my meals 👍. Hopefully it will be done next month. I have seen the Scarp 1 but I’ve never personally owned one. Looks like a fantastic tent and Tarp Tent has a pretty great reputation. I am also a big fan that they will professionally seam seal the tent before sending it to you. For a small fee of course. Really appreciate you continuing to watch my videos! All the best
What a great winter camp that was. I don't envy you carrying that 20 kilo stove as well as your heavy backpack. Super curry that you made too. Merry Christmas my friend.
Merry Christmas Maggi! Normally I would carry the stove on a sled but I haven’t been lucky enough to get that kinda snow in years. Still worth dragging it out for a camp or two though as it makes for an incredibly cozy camp. It’s around 22lbs. If it were 20 kilos I don’t think I would carry that out 😀. Eventually I will get one of those lighter weight titanium stoves! ATB 🎄
When you said you forgot the hot sauce for the chili I was saying to myself with all the spices and jalapenos you added I figured you were gonna have a race with the devil to get out of that tent in a hurry in the middle of the night. 😂 Nice setup. Good trip.
I do always enjoy a hot tent camp. I do like my spicy food as well. As I’ve gotten older I have noticed my stomach doesn’t like it as much though 🤣. Appreciate you watching another video!
Drooling over that chilli! Might steal that recipe, I always seem to make bland chilli which I didn’t think was possible! Also watching you masterfully dice an onion with a leather man 😂 great content as always have a lovely Christmas travel safe!
I have a lavvu that has yet to be used in the field and just recently purchased a small wood stove. I'm wondering what you are using to insulate the tarp from the stovepipe. I dont want to put a stove jack on my tent if I can avoid it.
You can purchase a heat shield that goes around the stove pipe that will keep the heat from ever coming in contact with the lavvu. The one I’m using in this video is actually made by Gstove, the company that makes the stove. Hope that helps 👍
I enjoyed watching. Have you ever had a problem with fleas, ticks or spiders when you use the hot tent? Ive heard they come from under the leaves and ground covering when it gets warm in the tent. Just wondering 🤔
No never had any issues when it gets really cold like this 👍. If it was earlier in the season maybe but usually if you have enough cold days it’s fine.
With a stove this size and a large piece of hardwood I would have to wake up every 2 hrs but I don’t wake up anymore to stoke the fire. I use to a long time ago when I first started hot tenting but there is really no reason to. I always bring my winter sleep system so I sleep comfortably when the fire goes out. And when I wake up in the morning, I just restart the fire in the morning to make it warm inside again 👍

Good Nz morning. Have just discovered your channel and like what I see. I see I've got a lot of binge watching to do. Just a slight correction on a word that is used quite frequently, with little consideration of its origin. There is no such thing as a Polish Lavvu. Period. In future just simply call it lavvu. It's a traditional seasonal dwelling of the Sami people. The Poles thought that creating a poncho, and having two buttoned together as emergency shelter, would be a great idea. So "Poncho Tent" or "Poncho Shelter." But to ID it as a Polish Lavuu , is a joke. Like making/creating a boomerang in USA,nd trying to label it as an American boomerang. It's a joke. Anyway, thanks for great content. I have subscribed.

But I continue to say Polish Lavvu because people know exactly what I’m talking about when I refer to it as that 👍. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! All the best
👍 Yeah it wasn’t too bad, especially considering we had one of the wettest autumns in a few years. Usually it’s pretty easy to find dry wood though if you can manage to find stuff thats thick enough and hasn’t been sitting directly on the ground. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
I’ve lived here in the UK 3.5 years. My kids are very young and have essentially grown up here. So I guess I’ve just picked up some of the lingo 😂👍. Thanks for watching!
Dude, just find a v in a tree and break stuff that small. Saw is such a waste of time and energy for such small diameter wood. Camping channels just LOVE their saws. 🤦♂️
Camping channels? Not too concerned about what other camping channels do I just use a saw because it’s the right tool for the job. The method you are mentioning works great but it’s sometimes easier said than done to get it to the exact size for the stove. I want to get it to the correct size to maximize the amount of wood I can put. Nothing worse than getting inside your tent, and realizing you can’t fit a piece in The stove. Some of this wood is also a bit denser than you might think. So it doesn’t take very long to make a cut and then break the piece in half. With smaller diameter wood it’s also easier to keep the fire going and adjust the temperature. Especially when regulating the heat in such a small tent, or when cooking 👍. Always appreciate the comments. It definitely helps the channel and the community. ATB
