    The realisation that you are hiking to your campsite while walking back and fourth moving your camera along the way to share your journey hit me while watching. Your editing skills are truly amazing , I feel like I, too, have been on a journey. And then if the hiking and camp set up is not already a feat in itself you then cook a meal Gordon Ramsey would be amazed by 😂. Thanks for sharing! Watching from South Island, NZ

      Thank you! Setting up the camera and walking away from it feels silly but I think it definitely makes for a better video. Hearing that you feel like you have been on the journey with me is great 👍😀. Cooking is always a fun way to unwind at camp. A bit of extra work but it’s great to have a nice fresh meal. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time comment. ATB

    I very much enjoy your videos and thank you for the extra work you go to to set up your shots. At times I feel as though watching you hiking I am your hiking partner, which is truly fun to be out there with a buddy. Also, thank you for introducing me to cooking, which I am definitely not that it's just Seiyu cook however, through your efforts, I might get to be one. Cheers, Peter.

    Another awesome video. That chicken stroganoff looked delicious. I had the same thought of keeping that pasta water for the hot bottle for the sleeping bag. Don't know if you put salt in that pasta water. But, that would keep it from eventually freezing easily. You do it all right every time.😊

      Winter camping in the snow is one of my all time favorite times to camp. Aside from being beautiful, the silence you get when everything is covered in snow is something special. Another great video. And I have to say I am amused by your culinary skills and the effort it takes to make these complex meals while backpacking. I would have difficulty making that meal in my own kitchen at home … when I go backpacking, I just bring ramen noodles or freeze dried meals. So again I have to applaud your culinary endeavors.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! It makes way more sense to bring freeze dried meals backpacking. But since I have the time and I really enjoy cooking I find it fun to make meals with my camping equipment that I’d usually cook at home. I’ve gotten the packing for each meal down so it’s pretty easy to bring the ingredients 👍. Thanks again for another thoughtful comment!

    It’s the fourth quarter. Thirty seconds to go. My wife is yelling at the TV. She’s excitedly contributing a combination of advice, exasperation, enthusiasm, and encouragement.
    We’re watching “goin.solo” as he cooks in his tent on youtube.
    She’s yelling “add more cheese……, don’t stir too much, foil on now, …. more cheese…., more cheese …. Thank goodness! Phew, he did it…. Yay!”
    A remote, highly addictive, participatory spectator sport - watching cooking in a snow camp.

    One think I liked about my nammatj compared to my Nallo was that if you pitch the rear into the wind, the rear of the roof does not flatten with wind reducing living space like it does with the nallo. With the nammatj though , my head was always touching the inner, not so though with the nallo near the entrance. The nammatj is the best tunnel imho.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Рік тому

      Both fantastic tents 👍. I agree and I do absolutely love the Nammatj. I’ve just personally never been a big fan of the door placement of the Nallo. Great video. Beautiful raw nature scenery. Might be worth mentioning that only the US uses the old Fahrenheit temperature system and the rest of the world use Centigrade. So to understand what you mean by “cold”, 12 degrees needs converting to -11 Degrees Centigrade (eleven degrees below freezing point) for the rest of the world to understand you. We watch your videos all around the world mate and need to know these things :-)

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Рік тому

      Thanks. I agree trekking poles are definitely a must in the snow! When I’m not pointing the camera I actually have my tripod in hand and use it as a trekking pole. It’s carbon fiber and pretty beefy. I use it quite frequently to test stream crossings and test for frozen boggy spots. Works well but I never really get to show that. Thanks! Good tip. Oddly enough the metal pegs were fine to get out. It was the plastic delta pegs that had really become anchored. They are great pegs but they don’t have a pull cord so if you can’t get a good purchase around them it can be really tough to pull them out. Would have been nice to have a small stone though to break up the ice around them! Thanks for watching! ATB

    I also got my first ever snow camp in last night, in my very own Derbyshire Peaks, was only probably 1.5” of snow on the ground where I pitched, but that’s good enough for me!
    I had gusty 40mph winds for around 3hrs, with a mere -10 windchill. 🥶

    I was up in the lakes for some incredible snow fall last weekend. I had packed for a snow camp but didn't quite trust myself at the last moment - I'd not solo camped in snow before and was put off by the length of the night... also had a 3 season tent (Lanshan 2) so I think not staying up on my own was probably the right call. Watched this to see if you'd clear the snow from the tent footprint but ended up getting sucked in to your amazing video. Definitely inspired and hoping to get that first snow camp in soon (just a little more confident next tine!)

    So very well done. Another hill and climbing challenge so tastefully communicated for others to share in. Winter hills hike and camp - one of the Earth's great rewards. As super luxureous the Nammatji I think I would get all afraid about heating such a large space with body heat, but the freedom to truely move around in a tent as you say .... And thank you for ending with your LNT messaging - makes me feel good every time a channel does. Respects.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Рік тому +3

      I agree with the size of the Nammatj. The space is a real luxury but it makes much more sense for your body heat to warm a one man tent in the winter instead of a two man tent! I was plenty warm before bed but definitely a trade off when you’re in a small space for so many hours. With seeing people leave litter in the Peak District and all the drama in Dartmoor it’s more important than ever to promote LNT. Us wild campers want to hike up to a pristine spot more than anyone! We need to protect these places for everyone to enjoy! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! All the best

    Amazing how you managed to travel with so much gear! drone, camera and tripod, proper food, 4 season tent and all that warm weather gear! This is my dream but i thought i would be limited to a 1 person tent in these conditions as i am putting my gear list together for winter. Can i ask what your total pack weight was for this trip and how far you would be prepared to hike with it?

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Рік тому +4

      I don’t remember the exact pack weight but I believe it was around 31lbs which is the top weight I would carry. I never break the 20% rule and that’s including food and camera gear. However, I do remember this feeling surprisingly more comfortable than normal. This pack has an incredible suspension system so it made it feel lighter than it actually was. On this trip I hiked a total of six miles. For a heavier load out like this I would keep it to an overnight trip. I’d probably limit it to a round trip distance of 15miles. Anything more than that I would start changing out gear. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  8 днів тому +1

      The Allak 2 is fantastic and very roomy. However, if it is just for solo camps I would choose the Nammatj 2. It’s lighter, very easy to pitch and it can handle some crazy weather. Although, if you think you are going to be using it to camp with two people I would go with the Allak 2

      For the most part if you are cooking at the right temperature it doesn’t spatter too much. Typically never enough to get on the tent fly. Occasionally I may get a bit just on the tent footprint. And that will just get wiped after cooking and further cleaned when I get home.

    Curious why you would use that alcohol stove with foil instead of one of the trangia traingle stoves with the spirit burner that has the lid to control the flame. You certainly have a lot of stoves to choose from... and a lot of Hilleberg tents...lol

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors

      This stove is extremely easy to light in cold temperatures and I was able to carry two of them at the same weight of one trangia. A few rocky areas had iced over. I think I may have said crampons in the video but I meant micro spikes 👍. The orange side of the pad you sleep on and the silver side of the pad goes towards the ground according to Nemo. I just follow the manufacturer instructions since they are the ones who designed the pad.
