Thank you for sharing this. I see these cut outs all the time when I film my Dollar Tree videos. I’ve wondered about all the ways people can use them. This is a great idea. I love how it turned out. I’m learning new ideas and skills from you! Your talent is inspiring. I am Happy to be learning and growing together with you.
Beautiful! I don’t blame you for keeping it. This was very informative. Your teaching style makes it easy for me to learn. I’ve watched other Silhouette instructional videos on different channels in the past & been totally lost after it was over. Thank you! I think I’m going to enjoy my Silhouette now! Time to go buy a wood round!!
Nancy, thank you for your kind words! I'm always so happy to hear when I've been able to help someone along their crafting journey! Wood rounds are a great project because, worst case scenario, you can sand and try again LOL. I'm sure you'll do great! Let me know if you have any questions! ---Becky
Turned out so pretty! I hate using stain it smells so horrible to me so I need a different way to get the stain look can’t wait to try it with paint instead!
If you are putting it outside you could definitely seal it! There are a number of different products you could use, I would recommend a weather-resistant spray so that it easy to apply.
I love, love, love this video! Great instructions on everything. I am new to doing wood signs, so I stencil by hand. I think I really need to invest in a Circut or Silhouette machine. They are not cheap. May I ask, which do you like the best and is easiest for a beginner? I love your teaching style, it makes it so easy to learn, especially for a beginner! Thank you so much for sharing and can't wait to see more of your videos!
Hey Carole! I'm so glad you enjoy the videos, and yes, these machines are a pricy investment! If you are wanting the machine primarily for signs, I would recommend the Silhouette Cameo 4. You will be cutting a lot of stencil material and 1) you can cut without a mat and 2) you can cut longer lengths than the Cricut. Of course they have other things to consider, but I think these two would directly influence you the most in regards to signs. Hope this helps! ---Becky
I have come back to this video several times to assist me in making wood signs! Thank you for the helpful video! I came back, because I have purchased a wire-trimmed ribbon so I can make the bow for the sign. However, this video does not show how to do that (I thought it did or references a video that did). Is there a video from DB that shows how to make bows with wire-trimmed ribbon? TIA
Hey Faith, glad you enjoyed the project! I would use thick twine or rope and a staple gun to adhere to the back. You can hot glue felt over the staples to protect whatever you hang it on. I believe the round is about 1" thick. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Kendell! I just used cheap acrylic paint, you can grab it at any craft store and most general stores. I don't usually seal my door hangers, but if you want to, I would suggest a light coat of polycrylic. Hope this helps! ---Becky
What vinyl and transfer tape do you use? For my first door hanger I used Cricut Removable Vinyl and Cricut Transfer Tape. It was quite tricky and I don’t see it being feasible for me to continue using these products for future products.
Hey Sydney! I use Oracal 651 for my permanent adhesive vinyl, and I use OraTape mt80p for transferring to wood projects, it's a medium tack so it releases the vinyl easy. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Yes, absolutely! The link should be in the description and the SVG can be used with Cricut Design Space. Thanks for stopping by and hope this helps! ---Becky
I love this wreath & I’m making one of these for my door. My question is: can you use the ‘no mat’ option if you don’t have the larger mat? Also, if you aren’t using a mat, do you need to change the settings? More force?? Thank you!!
Great questions Nancy! If you are cutting without a mat, definitely change your Page Setup to reflect 'no mat' and the size of you media. Make sure you turn on the cut border because you will lose about an inch of cut space at the bottom of your vinyl. I always recommend doing a Test Cut to check your settings, but you shouldn't have to make any adjustments for not using a cutting mat. Good luck with your project! ---Becky
Hi There! Great tutorial. I just made a round today and wish I would have seen this beforehand… I applied my 651 onto the stained surface. Although it didn’t seem to want to adhere as good as it did on the painted, it did seem to adhere. I then sprayed a few top coats over it as I thought it would help keep it on. Will the vinyl come off when I hang it outside or do you think I’ll be ok? Now I’m a bit concerned as this is going to be a gift.. thank you.
Hey Mary! You shouldn't have anything to worry about, once the vinyl is adhered. I have a few I have made with stain and although I struggled getting the vinyl to stick, it has stayed well throughout the years. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Alexandria! My rolled vinyl is stored in some glass cubbies I scored from a local sports store that was going out of business. I don't know where they are from originally. Sorry I can't be ore help. ---Becky
Hey Supria, as a stencil you can use almost any kind of vinyl. It takes about 72 hours for the adhesive to cure, so it still removes easily for this project. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hi Christine! The trouble with putting the vinyl over the seal is that you may accidentally rip off the seal and stain while taking off the transfer paper. Putting the seal over the vinyl also prolongs the life of the vinyl 😊
Hey Michelle! Sorry, it's a purchased design so I'm not sure. I'll post the link here for you in case you want to check it out. Hope this helps! ---Becky designbundles.net/diva-watts-designs/771483-welcome-ish-farmhouse-entry-sign-design-welcomeish
Hey Michelle! I used all acrylic paint. As log as this is hanging in a covered area (even a small porch), I don't seal with anything on top. Many crafters seal with Polycrylic though, if you feel the need to add that extra layer of protection, just use thin coats. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Nikki! I lucked out and found these at a local retail store that was going out of business. I'm not sure where to find them otherwise though. I'm sorry I can't be more help. ---Becky
Great question Karen, and yes, that should work, since your vinyl will be adhering to the paint and not directly onto the stain. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Good question and as long as you apply very light coats, they should dry quickly. I believe I let this project sit and dry overnight, but that is not normal for me, I'm too impatient. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Great question! I believe I end up using a 40/60 ratio, but really, you are safe to go as low as 50/50. The more water, the more of a stain look you will have. Also, you can always add more paint if it's too thin, but you can't take away, so more water to being with and you can add more later if you want. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Great question! Since this design is only about 6" in height, you should be able to cut this on a Portrait. You'll just need a long(er) piece of vinyl (around 18" W) and you will cut without a mat. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey, great question! The great thing about the vinyl is that you can apply it just like I did the stencil (using transfer tape) and there is no further action needed. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Thank you Brittany! I purchased the lambs ear from Hobby Lobby (watch for those sales!) and used regular Oracal 651 adhesive vinyl. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Hey Monica, I haven't needed any sealers on my projects before, and really it shouldn't be necessary unless you are displaying the wood in direct weather exposure. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Do you have a link for the wood rounds? I bought some on Amazon but they are only 1/8” and too flimsy I think. Thanks for your help 😀
Great tutorial! If this is stencil, what are you weeding after you paint?
I love it! Love it!! Such good tips 👍💞!

What wood are the rounds. Don't have them in Ireland would need to cut out, also what font did you use. Really nice
Hello, I just subscribed from Wild and Wonderful West Virginia
Thanks for subscribing!
I’m in love also. Can I do this with a 12 inch circle? Or will it look to small for my door?
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm New i'm this. I need to know if i can use regular flat paint for outside signs
Wonderful video, very detailed and explained very well. Thank you! 😍❤️ Do you suggest sealing it? If so, with what product?
If you are putting it outside you could definitely seal it! There are a number of different products you could use, I would recommend a weather-resistant spray so that it easy to apply.
Great video.
Thank you Kelly! ---Becky
I'm making this exact door hanger as we speak! I have the same greenery. Do you have a bow tutorial?
That's so exciting! In this tutorial - ua-cam.com/video/wSjDH4OvvDs/v-deo.html at 6:21 Crystal shows how she makes a bow. 😊
Thanks for sharing, did you use acrylic paint?
Hi Carol! We did use an acrylic paint for the black and acrylic as well for the white! We also recommend the chalk paint which works out well!
Your bow is beautiful do you have a tutorial on how to make that. I am doing a similar project.
Hi Lisa!! We will add that to our list of tutorials! We've had alot of requests for tips to make the perfect bow 🙂- Dawn

If these signs are being hung outside, do they need a finishing spray once everything has been painted?
Yes, if you are hanging them outside you should add a finishing spray to ensure it holds up! - Brittany
Awesome!
Thanks Maggie! ---Becky
Love ❤️ it!!!
Thank you Joan! ---Becky
Love the wording!
Thanks Jenny! I love using comedy and sarcasm in my crafting. I appreciate you stopping by! ---Becky
Great sign. Thanks for the tips.
Do you seal your signs?
You can seal the sign if you'd like, but I personally have not needed to. Hope this helps! ---Becky
So what about the smudges and imperfections? Did you repaint those ?
Thank you for this video!!! I have been looking for an alternate to using stain. The staining smells soo bad and just lingers.
I have come back to this video several times to assist me in making wood signs! Thank you for the helpful video!
I came back, because I have purchased a wire-trimmed ribbon so I can make the bow for the sign. However, this video does not show how to do that (I thought it did or references a video that did).

Hello!
We have a video here: ua-cam.com/video/xuoIf2ywgRk/v-deo.html where a 12:23 Crystal shows how to create a bow! - Brittany
I love it great job, what size and how thick was board ? Also how you attaching and hanging it? Thanks
Hey Faith, glad you enjoyed the project! I would use thick twine or rope and a staple gun to adhere to the back. You can hot glue felt over the staples to protect whatever you hang it on. I believe the round is about 1" thick. Hope this helps! ---Becky
What is the size of the whole board? Edge to edge
Do you have a bow tutorial for this type?
Not yet but it's on my to-do list! Thanks for the recommendation! ---Becky

Hi Ceci! We don't have a tutorial for the bow but I will add that to our list of tutorial ideas!

If you are keeping it indoors you would not need to.

Yes you can! 😊
Love it! I would keep it too! Is the paint used water proof it you place it outside?
Just regular acrylic paint. As long as it's not in direct weather, it should be fine! Hope this helps! ---Becky
What color brown is that?
Did I miss what type of vinyl was used? Awesome video!
Hey Donna! This was regular Oracal 651, but I actually like using my old "ugly" vinyl for stencils when possible. Hope this helps! ---Becky
For the white paint are you using chalk paint?
I used regular acrylic paint, but I'm sure chalk paint would look fabulous. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Do you sand your rounds?
You can! It will depend where you purchase your rounds from, they will usually come pre-sanded. - Brittany
I love this sign! Also, Where did you get the storage for your vinyl rolls?
Hey Alexandria! My rolled vinyl is stored in some glass cubbies I scored from a local sports store that was going out of business. I don't know where they are from originally. Sorry I can't be ore help. ---Becky
Becky you said you used oracle 651. Isn’t that permanent? What other vinyl would be great that peels off well?
Hey Supria, as a stencil you can use almost any kind of vinyl. It takes about 72 hours for the adhesive to cure, so it still removes easily for this project. Hope this helps! ---Becky
what sort of paint did you use ? can you use acrylic paint ?

Hi Becky, how do you figure out the ratio between paint and water?

How is it different if you want to put vinyl on the wood instead of making a stencil? Is there a tutorial for that?
Hey, great question! The great thing about the vinyl is that you can apply it just like I did the stencil (using transfer tape) and there is no further action needed. Hope this helps! ---Becky
Question from a newbie. Why go through the trouble of printing a stencil and having to paint it when you can just print out the words in vinyl?
Hey Chloe, you can certainly just apply the vinyl. Some crafters find the paint to be more durable for outside use and also the paint has a more matte look instead of the vinyl being glossy. Hope this helps! ---Becky
🥺 why my transfer tape is so hard to take off.. and always rip my letters
Hi! This is beautiful, May I ask where you purchased the lamb ear floral and what stencil vinyl are you using?
