I love using Oracal 631to do my stencil. It doesn’t pull in the wood stain or paint. Also 582U transfer tape doesn’t lift the wood stain or paint; easy to transfer and it’s reusable. I’ve tried press and seal and it was too much work for me🤪 Tip for Over the stencil inside the lettering I use a light coat of the background color on the edges of the word and if it’s a stain I use a light coat of Mod Podge, but don’t let the Mod Podge dry. Then add the stencil paint color.
Beautiful design, thanks for sharing. Ps, you can buy wide rolls of paper transfer tape (similar to white masking tape). It's great for not damaging paintwork x
Just found you and am an INSTANT fan! Thank you for sharing! I am brand new to creating and absolutely love wood signs. Now I feel a bit better about trying my own…..after I get that bowdabra! 😆
This might be a silly question but what exact staples are you using in your staple gun? I have bought 3 different types and they were either too thick and went thru the other side or too small or not strong and didnt go thru! This is hindering me from stapling hanging string. thank you
Hey Tim I hope this will work out for you...I am using Stanley brand (universal fit) heavy duty staples, 1/4" (6mm) for Stanley, Dewalt, and Arrow brand. You can also try putting down a small piece of felt (or something) before stapling.😊
@@alisgoods4541 Hmm, putting something down before stapling, I will try that! I also wonder if this highly rated but random brand stapler "Rexbeti" I got on amazon isn't helping. The latest staples I bought were exactly those, Arrow "JT21" (6mm) but sometimes multiple come out at once. thanks for the fast reply!
Hey there! I’m just starting to make wood rounds and I’m having a hard time figuring out what size staples to use in order to keep them from going through the wood. I’m using 1/4 birch wood. Thoughts?
I should clarify that I’m referring to when stapling the greenery and bow to the front! Then most recently I tried a 1/4” leg staple and it’s not strong/big enough to hold the greenery 🤷🏻♀️
So did you use the cricut permanent vinyl? It looked like it stuck well on the paint and it’s chalk paint right? The press and seal is such a great idea! Does regular acrylic paint work as well? I tried painting it with stencil but it’s kind of difficult and it also the paint “blended” outside the stencil..very frustrating. How do I prevent that from happening if I decide to paint? Sorry about all the questions just trying to learn 🤦🏻♀️
Hi yes I used permanent vinyl 651 and used my cutting machine. The paint is chalk paint and it will be just fine to use acrylic paint, I actually use spray paint now!😊
Hello Andrea I actually use an 18 in ruler, then once I tape off I'll check the measurements again with a regular ruler. I will link the one I got from hobby lobby below www.hobbylobby.com/Fabric-Sewing/Sewing-Quilting-Notions/Cutting-Tools-Mats/TrueCut-Ruler---3%22-x-18%22/p/142748
Hello.... I cut my wood with the Glowforge(a laser engraver) and I purchased a wood panel from the local home improvement store (home depot). Some of these stores also sell wood rounds (17.5") already cut and sanded. I know home depot has them.
Yes I would use either but on low heat. Also, I found that using spray paint will dry much quicker, but your need to wrap your board really good after your stain has dried(I cover mine with saran wrap and tape it down on the ends) before spraying or else you will get overspray on your stained wood.
Hi I use about 15-20" inches of each ribbon depending on the size of the round. One roll of ribbon would be great to start, since they come in about 18-30 ft per spool. I use the 2.5" ribbon
@@kathystanley9996 hi I use 1/4 staples, and mine are fine after stapling the greenery and bow on. When I'm stapling on my rope I cut some burlap from the ribbon and place that down first before stapling it on.
Hello! I was wondering what your ruler was called. I tried the link that you had for Hobby Lobby, but they said the product was no longer available. :(
Hi! I’m making these today! You’re came out so cute! What thickness of birch did you use and also what size are your staples? I have a heavy duty stapler already but I usually make tall signs that are 1 inch thick so I don’t want to blow through my wood with staples. Thank you!
Amazing!! At what point in the process do you use the rustoleum? Do you spray it over the entire project after you’ve completed the staining & ivory paint job?
After all is complete and dry I'll give it a coat on the entire round ( when I have used the spray paint white, I spray the whole thing but check to see if the clear is good on chalk paint before applying, if not I would cover that part with a bag and only spray the stained section).
Hey thank you! I use two main fonts, one from silouette and the other is called mermaid, I believe I purchased it from etsy. My size font is 13 X 7 for 18" and 12x 5.5" for 15".
Hello yes when using a mat to cut on it's 12". I used a cameo silouette and you can turn off the mat and run just your vinyl through without the mat for cuts larger than 12".
