Me (GSTAR321) doing a live commentary and playthrough of 'The Evil Within' on AKUMU difficulty.
The Evil Within is a survival horror game directed by Shinji Mikami and was released in 2014. It is available on PC, PS3, PS4, XBOX 360 & XBOX ONE.
Shinji Mikami does what he does best and has provided us with yet another great survival horror game. The Evil Within is VERY similar in gameplay mechanics to 'Resident Evil 4', and it makes sense as Mikami directed that game as well.
I give praise to the games atmosphere, pacing and gameplay but personally find the story to be a convoluted mess. Still, if you can manage to get your head around it, you will find it somewhat entertaining (though laughable). Locating all the collectables is a must in terms of gaining a better understanding of the story.
But aside from that, the monster designs are fantastic, the level design and atmosphere is amazing, and the gameplay is on point. With a mix of stealth, gunplay, traps and intense boss battles, this is a great game. An essential addition to any survival horror lovers repertoire!

Too bad the final boss isn't a mutated three headed monster consisting of Bo Rai Cho, Hsu Hso and Kobra. It would have made a good solid 10/10 game.

The Agony Crossbow is one of the best weapons I've ever used. I just love it.
Probably Shinji's long overdue way to make up for the pea shooter crossbow that Claire was given in RE2.

I love the details Mikami puts in his games, like the fact that you can put you revolver inside of you holster by pressing B, makes it more immersive. I normally just have my weapon in hand when there's enemies

Unfortunately for me, by the time I discovered and fell in love with this channel he had already long since disappeared...but I turned the notifications bell on anyway in hopes that one day I would be notified that MrGStar has finally returned. Damn Shinji Mikami really redeemed himself for that useless pea shooter bow gun he gave Claire in RE2 with the Agony bow gun that you acquire here in this game.

I played most of the way through this game on one of the harder difficulties, but got mad when I couldn't get beat a boss and ended up restarting. I think watching you play makes this game much more enjoyable.
This reply is probably 5 years too late but this game allows you to lower the difficulty at any time...at the expense of disabling achievements
Gstar.. Your the best.. I also recommend trying out Alien Isolation and Outlast if you like.. Both great games.. Enjoy your day/night my man..

It says that the double barrel shotgun is 50% more powerful but I'm not convinced. When you fight the keeper it took me 5 or 6 shots to drop him after freezing him. Gstar dropped him with 4 shots with the shotgun upgraded to 140% so....yeah. Maybe I'm not understanding it correctly but the shotgun upgraded 140% is only 40% more powerful than stock power which in theory should be weaker than the double barrel yet it drops the keeper in less shots.

If you got a bottle on a zombies face it dazes them so you do a sneak kill with your knife. Should work for akumu mode too.

I remember him playing mksm on a pal version of ps2 so I'm hoping he'll do a walk through of project altered beast the Sega game like the futuristic version the game I'm talking about is only available for pal version because it wasn't released out of Japan or Europe

don't mind the cutting of saving/loading, running around to retry parts.... but please include a few clips of the deaths and moments of rage..... a lot of use enjoy your playthrus because your not flawless and your reactions are golden, ur robbing us of web gems

Maybe I missed it, but the Fighting Chance Pack includes 5,000 green gel by Ch. 3, correct? Because last chapter GStar ended off with 3,900 gel and started off this chapter with 8,900 green gel. Again, maybe I’m stupid and missed something, but I don’t have the Pack so I’m not sure. Btw I really mis GStar and really hope he will at least explain his reason for disappearing for so long, I just can’t wait any longer😥

I have a question if you don't mind: You've said that if the Sadist didn't die by 3 explosive bolts, then you'll use the flash bolt and then stealth kill him. Can't you just spare the explosive bolts and only use the flash bolt to stealth kill him or do you have to damage him first?
Sorry I should have clarified that in the vid. But yea, you need to damage him first. If you just shoot down a flash bolt immediately and blind him, then go for a 'sneak kill' ... it won't actually kill him, only damage him. I guess this is because he's seen as a sort of 'sub-boss' enemy and has much more health than the regular haunted.
Tommy it takes longer, but you could also get him to go through the spike traps and not waste anything
