Im currently trying to clean up the entire map, got all the nodes in the desert to a central location and now collecting all the loose ores, dropped parts, slugs ect. This "playthrough" will take me years, but this video is a great prep for whats coming, thanks
With the nice values you had for your splits, I think another way to do it is to use (smart) splitters and belt speeds. 480 to 300 iron : splitter send to mk2 belt, other split should be at 480-120=360, another splitter to mk1, other split at 360-60=300. Same idea for concrete 300 split in 120/180 with only one splitter to mk2. Use smart splitters if the amount "removed" is more than half.
You make an excellent point! Using the smart splitter would be a great way to do it. Although I have found limitations with using them like this. It will work flawlessly for the full 480 belt being split into 300/180 just like how you described. When the belt isn't totally full like the 300 belt, the gaps on the belt will start to slowly throw off the balance. You can get around that by using a short section of mk4 belt on the "Any" output before limiting it down to the speed you want. I'll probably end up using both methods throughout the factory, thanks for the reminder!
@@moo121 quick question for you. I have always struggled with bussing ores into factories over distance. I have seen busses you have done but do you have any videos that go in depth on how you approach running belts all over the place? Edit: without it looking like a disaster. lol.
@@rsaviation932 That's a good question. I don't think I've ever gone in depth on that topic. This was the most ambitious belt bus project I've tried and it was a lot of work haha. Not hard, just takes a while. I've gone over the blueprints I made for this in another video. The approach to doing it is an interesting idea for another tips and tricks video! Thanks!
@@moo121 I would definitely be interested in seeing a video on your take! I always have cool designs for the belts themselves but I always struggle with placing everything without just running foundations on the world grid the whole way. Haha.
The Moo Crew is too good. I love it! Thanks, I usually make exactly what I need but with the changes to the later phases I think it'll be nice to have some extra. Plus this gives me the opportunity to make more ridiculous splitter blueprints :)
I wonder why are you building bigger factories already with limited tech? Wouldn't it be easier to rush towards MK3 Miners and Mk6 Belts maybe even Mk3 Blueprints before building bigger factories to have it much easier and more resource potential? Also I think the glass roof tiles are more transparent and less dirty then the glas frame foundations, which might fix your flooring problem.
Thanks that's a great tip! I'll have to play around with the roof tiles. You are probably right, it would be easier to get better miners and belts. And all together more efficient. But I'm not in a huge rush to complete the game. I'm really enjoying everything that's changed and added so I'm taking my time. I really didn't try to make things look good in my last save and I want this first 1.0 save to be one I can go back to and be happy with how it all looks. Plus temporary factories don't make as good of thumbnails :) I may go for the rush approach in the next playthrough to see the difference.
I've been playing for a but a month now I seen a lot of videos on stuff but what I don't get why not put the highest speed on all belts why put mk 1 on some or mk 2? even with my machines overclocked still don't produce fast enough
That is a good question! There certainly isn't anything wrong with using the highest speed belts for most things, and in a number of places would speed up the start up time for me. I tend to use whatever the lowest speed I can get away with and that's 100% because I like the way it looks. There are a few places in the game where manipulating the belt speed can get the results you want but for the most part its a visual preference.
Hey Tesla! I hope you are well. I haven't streamed in a long while although I have been thinking about trying it again. Thank you for the words of encouragement!
Ummm. Yea. You need to get back on twitch due to the large scale builds you are doing. There are lots of questions and antics that have to be discussed. 😊
Usually I am with you 1,000%. Why basic iron receipe? So much limestone... Why not alloy? I get why not pure, who wants to mess with that much water in the dune desert. I know you have a good reason, I am just not seeing it. Thanks!
Haha that is a fair question! Honestly I think the alloy is probably the better recipe to use. The reasons I went with the basic one are that its shiny and new and I wanted to try it out. The other reason is the rates are really nice for load balancing. I get to deal with belts of 300 and 480. The alloy would be belts of 240/60 and 450 for the same 6 foundries. My other thought is that I have never come close to running out of limestone in a save, but I have used a good amount of the copper. I'm sure I'll use the alloy down the line, this wont really last all that long.
Yea, ok. That makes sense. I am always starving for concrete, but I have never tapped every node in a biome... Mad cow disease?!?!? 🤪🤣🐄 I don't think I have the energy to do that no matter how many times I have wanted to do exactly that...and beyond! 😱
It definitely took longer than I thought it would. I'm curious to see how I feel about it at the end of the playthrough, it might end up being a great idea and save me time. OR it was a huge mistake and a waste of time LOL The reason the videos hopped around the timeline a little bit is because I couldn't do all the belt buses at once, it was too long and tedious and I needed a break half way through. And that's why the Rubber factory was when it was :)

That sounds like a huge project! Thankfully it really doesn't matter how long it all takes, I'm taking my time in this playthrough too. Good luck!

Keep it up!
