    Yeah because scrap materials generally include specially machined end caps and turbines with a 0.1mm tolerance....

      @Frank Blackcrow i freguently make parts like these by melting down pop cans in a iron skillet with wood and hair dryer and cast them with sand and styro foam, then machine them down with a corded drill and some old screw drivers. This can certainly be done with scrap and house hold materials

    • @appalachianforge7537
      @appalachianforge7537 5 років тому +2

      @Frank Blackcrow except im poor as dirt and everything i use is scrap like literally my forge is made from a tire rim no plaster or anything everything i use is literally things most people would find around the house and if you aint got a tire rim you can just dig a hole in the ground and use that dirt is a great insulator i see what youre saying but if you put some time and effort into it you can do every bit of that with scrap :)

    I must have missed the part where a turbine was made from scrap. CnC machined end caps and rotor hardly count as a scrap built turbine. Nothing wrong with a well made turbine from machined parts, just the title was a bit misleading. I wanted to see someone cobble a turbine together from a tin can, four broken pencils, and a 350 small block. Now that would be some good utubez.

      +Tyler Hopaluk They were scraps from another project. Scrap does not equal junk. A scrap piece of exotic hardwood is still exotic hard wood. It's just a leftover piece.

  • @ReginaldFordII
    @ReginaldFordII 9 років тому +11

    Good stuff. Just note that when you connected two of them, they will both go at lower velocity than if you only run 1 of them. It's not that the first one is wasting any energy. The flow has no where else to go, but when you have a second turbine, there's 'back pressure' which cancels out with the original pressure, etc. etc. So I don't think that running 2 will allow for more total torque, and it's not the same as having a two-stage turbine. Nonetheless, the turbine appears to be very efficient and well built.

    • @TheLegendHoss
      @TheLegendHoss 3 роки тому

      Thats true. I think running them in parallel rather than series should provide a true doubling of output without loss. In a closed system where say steam is leaving to be condensed you would want a smaller compression ratio, which I believe parallel inlet and exhaust would also accomplish.

    have to ask. have you any data on variable orifices, adjustable position of jets? perhaps some measurements of internal pressure gradients as changes are made ? planetary gear coupling to reduce speed and increase usable power? have you seen the air bearings? a graphene (sic) porous practically frictionless bearing material? lastly where do you show the fabrication of the different rotors ?

  • @daviddroescher

    what do you plan on powering with the 2 PTOs (power take off) ? you said the original used to much air so compounding them will gain .33 (or the efficiency of your design) of the remaining power per stage could this handle steam ? What wattage generator could this run? I'm thinking high pole count Brushless out runner maby 600w at 90psi.
    what is the pressure drop across each turbine? like someone else suggested run the sequence in a B. A. configuration, it could improve the over all performance.
    grate job on the build from blank parts, drop stock😉. If you have access to a CNC machine its just , feed the machine and hit print ... If you have a makerbot then you just hit print. kool work.

      Certainly you can; but the nozzle is supposed to be built into the housing; his test nozzle is on the air blower tool he's using. And of course; the max. horsepower output point of this type of turbine is apprx. half of it's free speed. If you built an alternator to operate at 26,000 RPM; which is quite possible; it should be workable. Obviously the installation would have to include automatishut-down in case of load dropping; running free the speed would probably damage something. Ceramic ball bearings are available nowadays that work very well at 26,000 rpm.

      +johnnyq90 i wonder if you could actually make 2 of those steam turbines and basically connect them together and blow some air in them, and quickly close up the tubing to see it they would infinitly spin since they would spool and keep getting air from each other...

    • @carmelpule6954
      @carmelpule6954 9 років тому

      +Marijana Brezić Leave that problem alone unless you want to finish on pills.
      How about this one. If a item stands in front of a video camera and behind it there is TV monitor showing what the camera shows, and all is lined up perfectly, then would quickly taking away the item, mean that the monitor will show the item without the item being there? These are problems to elevate the human spirit but never try them on a practical basis as they will eat away your time.

    • @drienkm
      @drienkm 9 років тому

      +Carmel Pule' ...they will eat away at you, or you approach these questions using maths and you quickly arrive at the correct answer - what would happen if you actually tried it:
      Original question - as others have said, mechanical losses quickly slow both down to a stop because there is no input.
      Your question - it's a loop. Even if you assume the time taken by the loop is infinitesimal, this is only an perplexing problem if your brain has imagined that some system-governing principle ceases or changes as the object moves out of the screen - no, nothing would be left on the screen no matter how the question is posed.

      Actually due to the fact that i don't have a boiler for this turbine my next project with this one will be a turbine powered tool (a drill preferably). A boiler for this turbine will not be very cheap, it needs to be quite large and powerful...

    • @aserta
      @aserta 10 років тому

      ***** Did you check prallpratte's (google youtube and his name) channel? I remember sending you his way. He does really cool things with steam and rc.
      You won't regret it.
      Also, if you can, you could acquire a steam engine and boiler off of ebay. You know those steam toy/didactic engines. A lot of them go for dirt cheap because either the engine is busted or the boiler is broken or missing parts or rust or whatnot. But IMO, for you that shouldn't be a problem since you clearly know how to make your own engines.
      Cheers. I'm looking forward to the turbine tool.

Excelent idea. I'm thinking of making such a turbine to drive a 2.ooo Watts electric generator. But I am not aware of PSI capacity that needs to be injected to get enough torque to rotate the generator. Do you have any experience with this detail? To generate PSI I am thinking of a steam boiler and after cooling the steam that goes through the turbine make it return to the boiler. Great idea to also couple more than one turbine in the circuit
