A necromancer simulator. Assemble the dead using different body parts while upgrading your tower, combine the abilities of the different fantastic races to fight your way through the hordes of enemies and overrun the ’chosen ones’. To tell the truth, the dead are pretty, uhm, dumb.

This game would be amazing with some A.I tweaks and the implementation of more control over your troops actions or priorities and maybe even designated squads

  • @Hawkster52

This looks like Majesty but with undead. You don't have direct control and they fulfill their own goals. Neat. If you've never heard of Majesty, it plays like this. You have heroes who have their own desires, priorities and goals. They'll travel around your map doing quests, shopping, fighting, etc. You have no direct control over any units whatsoever. The only thing you can do is set priority targets to go kill a specific monster or clear a specific lair.
Just based on the design of this I'm pretty certain that's what they're aiming for. You just make the undead and cast the spells and they do everything else. You're trapped in the Frozen Throne basically.

This game really needs commands like defend, return, etc and group control. Also I noticed the zombies don't heal even at the base which is odd.
This game has potential, but needs improvements
45:26 Never heard of impossible creatures it sounds cool and I bet this game took inspiration from it
Wow those spells really change everything

If they're targeting a Majesty-like game, not having full direct control is the point of the design. But the game definitely needs the ability to set "priority" targets or goals that they'll aim to complete first.

@@Hawkster52 Could solve the completely undefended castle problem by allowing archer towers to be built that can be manned by a single minion. At least then you have something picking off enemies.

One idea could be to add a new building, the parapet or something that adds defender slots to your keep, you could then put ranged units in those slots to help defend.

You know, I've been watching your videos for a while now and I can honestly say that I won't even consider a new release roguelike unless I've seen you play it first. You really show what the game is truly like in a very entertaining, informative way. Great work!

Easy way to defend you base is make a very heavy unit that is too slow to move and has ranged attack items like wands or crossbows, basically make a turret undead :P

to those talking about the AI issues, the devs have stated theyre doing their best to try to work on tweaking the AI to not be so ‘stupid’ without having to rewrite the game completely or breaking the balance

  • @DylanBFishkeeper

The game has potential, but I can definitely see a few tweaks that really probably should have been added game play-wise. You kind of touched on this around the 30:30 mark when talking about squads and macros, but the biggest change the dev would probably see a pretty positive reaction from would be to add a basic "Designated Defender" AI that you could toggle on or off for units. Something simple that restricts the unit from wandering more than a certain distance from the castle would change this experience for the better and likely wouldn't be too terribly difficult to program in, considering there is already AI to return to the castle when it's under attack.
With that simple change, I honestly don't think there is much more macro that you would need to add to make the game feel better. Sure, squads you could command might be nice, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you would find them less necessary with just the "Defender" toggle being added. In fact, rather than squads, I'd probably stick with adding just a few different AI toggles you could set on each minion and even save in recipes: Defender (stays by base), Scout (prioritizes undiscovered areas and captures structures), Siege (prioritizes enemy dens), Skirmisher (wanders through discovered territory to attack intruders), etc. These wouldn't need to be complex and could actually utilize the existing AI; it's just that rather than doing everything poorly (the "all units share the same single AI brain cell" problem), the toggles would let each summon do one task decently. After all, the idea of this game doesn't seem to be about having great macro control, but rather to let your mindless minions run rampant while you mix-and-match more monsters.
For a $3 price point, I feel like that's about the sort of game play level that is reasonable to develop and any more sophisticated would likely justify a price increase. I'm not an expert in game development, though, so I'm not sure how the cost in development time is to create a system like squads, better AI, etc.

Also, that the AI stands for Artificial Idiocy, so your units will charge into groups of enemies and facetank, no matter if they're melee or ranged units, which doesn't make the game too fun. That means that speed is detrimental to your units. Same with vision range, as if you uncover an enemy base, it will activate it, causing it to send waves of units. And if it sends a wave of units, your units will focus on the enemy wave instead of the enemy base, and then die due to facetanking, meaning you're screwed unless you control your unit and do the job yourself. Which you can't, because you're forced to stay with your best unit inside your base to deal with enemy waves because none of your units will defend it for you. Thankfully, the devs are planning on fixing that in the future, but that's still quite a way away. Still, the game is so cheap you might as well buy it, have a few hours of fun admiring the pretty pixel graphics and then return to it when they actually make it playable :P

I really like the theming of this, and the monster maker aspect. But while I get the difficulty in trying not to be other RTS games, my god it would've been so much easier if you could group units and send them to go attack an enemy base for example. I agree the pacing & tutorial could use work to let you know about spells and such. And like, normally pacing is just Reto is v good at games. But in this, I don't really see any reason why the average potato couldn't also get that far.
