    Shouldve used the same type of heads on both kits.

    Dashing kits.
    The Performer Series is a force to be reckoned with.
    It has a lot of body and is warm as it's very crisp with just enough punch and bite that's inviting.
    The walnut birch is great in terms of meaty tone and depth in low body with its get in-get out attack and response.

    Love the old pure birch ones from back in the early 2000’s. High end hardware, thin shells, made in Japan. Mine still sound so good. My only complaint is the hanging floor toms but they’re still good.

      Great kit you have.....and yes, I hate hanging floor toms aswell, a no go for me. I have the Starclassic walnut/birch with a 5 tom (additional 8"x7" tom) configuration and I am very pleased with it.

    Eight lugs per head on the maple-birch kit's 22" bass drum will give it a more open sound more conducive to low tunings. Eight lug 22s, even though they're associated with lower cost, are great sounding.

    It would be so much more helpful if these demos were less about the drummer showing his speed and chops and more about slowing hitting individual drums so we can actually hear them

    Would have liked to hear the same coated heads on the 2. You can really hear the low end tonal difference between the 2 kits; Wondering how much of that is the heads, and how much is the maple vs walnut.

    I'm surprised the maple birch sounds better in this video. I guess I shouldn't be because I had a mapex walnut maple set and could never get a sound I was happy with.
    I have played a tama walnut maple set at a store and was blown away by the sound there, I didn't compare it head to head with the maple birch though.

    Great video, thank you, but I had a question. I've been looking into the Starclassic models a ton over the last few weeks and this is my first time ever seeing the Walnut/Birch with a virgin kick and those single tom stand attachments. While it's standard for the Performer line, literally every Walnut/Birch kit I've seen across all stores, reviews, and even Tama's site strictly only shows the kit with a bass drum tom mount. Is this a custom order? As someone who uses a rack this is a major deciding factor for me.

  • @SoundAloneband

    The walnut birch kit is simply a better kit. More lows and snap. However the Pearl session select is still my fav in this mid upper tier range. Saturns too. So many good drums out there. It's odd how dw uses straight maple shells on almost every line throw's different hardware and charges thousands more. They charge too much. Also those new Ludwig classic oaks are killer drums! Super impressed.

    Why does the performer kit not have the same features as the walnut/birch kit being that they're both "starclassic"?

    • @andyham6094
      @andyham6094 3 роки тому +1

      They wanted to make it little more affordable than the walnut birch. But I agree I wish they just kept all the amazing starclassic hardware features originally brought it down from the flagship star line hardware. The quick lock brackets and air cushioned floor Tom legs and the beefy bass drum spurs are just top top notch best in the industry. I would rather pay the little extra money for that upgraded hardware features. The quick locks make setting up and breaking down way faster

    Can't beat SWEET WATER'S demo by Nick DeVirgillio - ONE drum at a time - minimize snare and cymbal sounds which overwhelm the drums you want TO SELL us.

    Too much talking and not enough playing. This didn't help me make a decision at all. Hit each individual drum one at a time without talking so we can hear the tone of the drums. Check out Nick D'Virgilio at Sweetwater for examples.

    Maple/birch FTW.

    • @ivanbajovic3476
      @ivanbajovic3476 Рік тому

      Believe it or not, W/B sounds much different in reality (better), with a lot of sustain and tone richness, if you tune it in that way, of course. For some reason all those presenters tune bottom heads too tight and that's the reason why the sound is dead in most videos. If you want to hear better demo, just search: Drums Bonedo Tama Starclassic Walnut / Birch Drums - Sound Demo.

    Tama, please for the love of all things noisey, replace those ugly finishes on the Walnut/Birch with the cool finishes on your lower end drums. The Walnut/Birch options are several years old, ugly and lame. Whoever picked the color options for the Walnut/Birch kits needs to go work for Ddrum or PDP, sheesh!
