Garmin Nuvi 2639LMT Boot Loop Troubleshooting and Fix

Fixing a Garmin Nuvi that is stuck in a boot loop. This one ended up just going through the update process & working.

I have exactly this same issue.
Well my story is: I had formatted the entire internal drive in error. Got all the files including system and hidden files from my friend and copied them over to the internal drive of the device. I also flashed it with the firmware .rgn file. The Garmin Express recognises the gps devise and says that it’ll take 3:26 hrs to update, but soon after I click on update all, it starts the update and then asks me to plug off restart and plug in the device. And then the same loop of update and restart message. The device still just flash white screen when it’s not plugged in and restarts. No luck.
Any suggestions??

I found that if you hard power it off a few times it comes good again I’ve had this issue with mine a few times can be a real headache at times

Could this be the same problem with my Garmin Drivesmart 61. The screen flickers like hell. Just got min :(

I'm not sure that it's the same problem, but it's definitely worth a shot. I always prefer doing the basic troubleshooting steps before returning. It takes less time to do power cycles and firmware updates than to send in or take back to the store.

What do you do when your PC doesn't recognize the GPS unit being connected via USB? How do you flash the firmware?

You could have further problems with your device that may not be so easily resolved. My first thought would be to try another cable, another usb port, then another computer. You'll also want to be sure the necessary drivers are installed & that there are no conflicting drivers.

I got all the way to add device tried several times my iMac doesn’t find garmin tried several times never finds any suggestion?

The first thing would be to try a different cable and different USB port. Then I would double check and make sure drivers are installed.

Mine just says some code and turns back off.. Doesn't charge. Just turns on when plugged in.. Says a code, with the OS number and turns off

I would check the code on Google & see if you can find forums where people have solved the same trouble code.
