Thank you for this excellent video. Your production quality is outstanding. You have covered all the tricky little points which are often skipped over by others: e.g. battery viability. removing tape & screws, opening case, proper disconnection of cables,, taping battery, and reassembly. I was pleased to learn about the battery self-test, and that older units will accept aftermarket maps. Most of all, you saved me from tossing my Garmin Nüvi 260W.
Very well explained!! Thank you for your expertise. I just changed the battery in my Garmin 2455LM. While there was a small difference in the procedure because of a different model. It was easy and returned to me my favorite GPS for my motorcycle. Thank You Sir !
Extremely detailed & patiently explained for non electronically inclined persons. A lot of knowledge here to absorb & learn from. Thank You for sharing this with the many of us. Greetings From Canada.
You are very welcome, and yes I agree, on the newer ones it is very complicated to enter an address if the address is in a different State or Country. I had to make a guidance video on that because hundreds of my viewers couldn't figure it out.
Thank you for this video! I would like to ask you how do you let it work while it is plugged to the charger since my nuvi 200 only shows the "PC connected" icon when is recharging. Thank you again
Great video, very easy to understand , nice pace. Thank you for helping. Now how do I find a battery to match? They say in the add it will work for my unit. They don’t match exactly? I can find 3.7V match and plug, mine 1.25Ah, 4.6Wh replacements list 1200mAh/4.44Wh. ?
Thank you, so the mAh/Wh is what determines the amount of storage the battery has. The smaller numbers indicate smaller amount of storage where as the larger numbers indicate higher storage capacity. Having that said the only important thing is the Voltage they must be 3.7VDC if the storage is a little less the GPS will run out of battery faster, but it will still operate.
Do you have save the day. I was trying to figure this out and just good night and did not want to order the wrong battery. Thank you so much for your assistance.
A new battery should last up to 5 years if the GPS is kept in a cool dry place. However most people leave the GPS inside the car during the summer when the inside of the vehicle gets as hot as 130 degrees. So doing so will significantly reduce the battery life. Some models of Garmin such as the Garmin Nuvi 850 has a battery door where you can remove it and swap it with a new one without having to take apart the GPS.
Hi, not necessarily, because brand-new batteries that didn't have any charging cycles yet could take up to 8 hours to fully charge and reach their max limits. However, each subsequent charge will be much faster.
Congratulations on the explanation, I can use the Garmin without changing the battery, on the motorcycle's 12V socket, only with a USB cable, I know it's not waterproof, what is its temperature regime, thank you
Hi, that means the flat ribbon cable is not inserted deep into the socket slot. You need to open it and reinsert it very deep before locking it in it's place.
Very good video. I have a Garmin GPS Nüvi 2597. The battery current is about 200/280 mAh. The device starts normally but a few minutes later the fail showed on the screen is a dotted image and horizontal lines, then it turns off. Is that fail only because of the battery or something else? Greetings from Argentina.
Thank you, so the fail seems to be a Motherboard issue, a defective battery will simply die and the GPS will turn OFF. Even without a battery the GPS will work with an external power source.
Great tutorial!!! Would you be able to do a video on how to update to like 2022 maps as well please? I have the Garmin Nuvi 265w myself but I believe it's pretty much the same. Thank you and keep up with the good work!
Thanks for your kind words, the Garmin Nuvi 265W has a limited 2GB internal storage which is not enough to fit the entire 2022 North American amps. So you will need to use a 8GB SD Card and load the maps on it. You can either buy the maps from Garmin or download the open source free version. Make sure the maps on the SD Card will be inside a folder called Garmin. So assuming your SD Card is Drive "E" is should be something like this E:\garmin/gmapsupp.img
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 yeah, that’s what I’m gonna use! So I just have to basically use those maps from there or should I do a whole new full install of the gps software on the SD card?
@@IzzYChannel No you don't need any system files on the SD Card just the map file inside the Garmin folder. Garmin GPS is not like TomTom GPS where you have to put the entire Operating System " Navcore" on the SD Card, all you need for Garmin is the map file and genuine unlock code if it's original Garmin maps. If it's a third-party free map you don't even need the unlock files.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 I’m from Europe and well, I got the maps off a website but just like the original ones “.img”. They came in 2 separate folders “East” and “West”, I took them out from those folder, I renamed them, copied them into a “Garmin” named folder but when I open the GPS it loads only the “West” maps. Any idea why that is?
@@IzzYChannel You can only have one gmapsupp.img on the SD Card the other part should be copied on the GPS internal Memory and you can name it gmapprom1.img
this is an excellent video. Can you help me with how to fix the error of "system software missing" I have tried holding the long press on the bottom edge of the screen when turning the power on, but that never works. Any other tricks you might know? Thanks for your help.
Thank you for your generous video rating. So most battery packs come in one of these two wire color combinations, ( Red, Black, Yellow ) and ( Red, Black, Green ). Red is always Positive, Black is always Negative, but the battery condition sensor cable could be either Yellow or Green. Voltage must be exact ( 3.7V but the mAh is not very important. The higher the number, the longer the battery will power the unit. However, the higher mAh will also take longer to charge fully.

Unfortunately when that happens you have to do a factory restore, and to do that you will need to re-register every single headset again. In addition to that you will need to redo all the store settings such as opening time, closing time, announcements, and lane settings. Also you have to know the Installer password for your region to log in as an installer to do the factory restore.
Not necessarily; many older Garmin units come with Lifetime map updates if the model number ends with LM. For example, a Garmin Nuvi 2595LM will have lifetime free map updates, but on a Nvui 2595 you have to pay for an update.

Hi, most likely it has a bad USB Port, because even if the battery is bad it should still power up by an external power source. I do have multiple videos showing how to replace or repair the USB port on a Garmin Nuvi.
If you are talking about the PIN Code there are 3 options available 1. Hello! I replaced the battery on my Garmin nuvi 200 and since then the screen has been white. I turn on the device, I hear the commands when I touch the screen but it remains white. Can you help me how to solve it?
Yes I can help. When this happens it means the screen flat cable is not inserted all the way into the socket. You need to push it more IN then clock the latch clip.
Thanks but it's not what i am asking for. I want to connect another battery while skipping the battery controller of original or replacement batteries. I am asking because of the third cable. In old cell phones there is an hack enebling the device to work if you connect a 10k resistor to the third terminal
@@janzkijowa7275 I have never done that hack, so I don't know. However, the third cable is necessary for the unit to see what the battery level is. If you disconnect it and hack it with a 10KΩ resistor, you will get false battery level reading.
I do not really care about knowing the battery level, my concern is only that the Garmin will not power on without the proper connection. I plan to power it with a big 18650 pack which even not fits inside the case. Soo... I will just try and let you know in case of success. P.S.: The 10kR phone hack has not affected the proper battery level indication, but i have tested it only on older models with an easy replacable battery

Yes the GPS unit will operate from the Car Cigarette Lighter plug even if there is no battery inside of it, however if in the middle of a rout by accident you unplug the car charger, the rout info might be lost and you will need to re-enter it.
