Thank you so much. i have a old nuvi 2555 and been sitting there for a long time. now I want it on my second car. it couldn't get satellite signaler. your video just helped me to re connected to the satellite and working fine now
Genius!!! Exactly what I was looking for. The gps was off on my unit somehow and I was at a loss on how to get it back on. This fixed it. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much for this information. I was having trouble with the satellite acquisition on my Garmin ZUMO XT for my motorcycle. These steps worked.
thanks !! i had this issue before and i had to install updates and reset my memory and i donnu what. TOday couldn't even connect my gps to my computer. Happy to have stumbled upon this cos it worked !! So much quicker !
I don't have the Cold Start. I have Wrm Start & Prdc Wrm St at the bottom and Start Log on top left. I have good satellite signal and everything, just when I am at my house it thinks I am like 4 doors down from where I actually am. Like if I am on my front steps and tell it to take me home, it says I am 150' away. And when I click where am I, it shows the closest address to me is a house that is 4 addresses past mine. Is there something I can manually tell it?
I have an issue since the last update in garmin express with my Nuvi2595 that I have now lost turn by turn navigation. The device says "please drive to highlighted route" then if I miss a turn it says nothing and the only time I will here the voice again is if I go into an underground carpark and it loses satellite reception so I know the voice actually works. Any suggestions? I have done all the resets and Garmin is fobbing me off saying the last update was 2016 and the device is very old and no longer supported
Sounds like corrupted map data. I have the 2555 (same as yours but without Voice Command), so your 2595 menus should be the same. You will need a recent USB cable (don't use an old one) and when you connect the nuvi to the computer, directly connect it and do not use a USB hub because that causes transfer problems. Reinstall the map. Launch Garmin Express, select Map Details, select Map Options, select Reinstall Map, like this imgur.com/a/MO0USyw Even if everything looks like the map is installed, reinstall it anyway as the map data may be corrupt. After reinstalling map, check to map sure map is present and in use. Settings > Map & Vehicle > myMaps (scroll down to see it), make sure the map has a checkmark, like this: imgur.com/a/tL41Whv If there are still problems and you are using a memory card, the memory card may need to be replaced, especially if it is over 5 years old. Your GPS will support a maximum 32GB microSD memory card and no more than that (which will fit all maps just fine). If you are not using a memory card, ignore this part. If the map appears to have reinstalled correctly, go to: Settings > Navigation > Calculation Mode, make sure it is _not_ set to "Off Road". If all else fails, perform a system reset. Your favorites may be deleted when you do this. From the main menu: Volume menu. On Volume menu, press and hold top right corner (about 5 seconds) until Diagnostics Page appears. Select to Clear all user data. System will reset as if it were new. Lastly, only once have I ever had a Garmin GPS where a map update botched and the file got "stuck" to where I had to force-delete it manually to get it reinstalled proper. I don't believe you will have to do this. One of the above steps should work for you.
i think my nuvi is either too old, broken, or there's too much electronic noise in my room because it isn't finding any satellites. it also doesn't have the cold start option.
I'm wondering how this differs from a Garmin nüvi 255w. On the 255w there are different options. [Start Log] which triggers [Wrm Start], and then there is [Prdc Wrm St]. I haven't found any documentation for the (discontinued) 255w.
The 255W is an earlier model released in '08 and the 2555 (this is the model seen in the video), was released in '11. By that point Garmin had introduced the Cold Start option.
Does not recognize Pennsylvania. Have locating satellites which has been going on for over 15 minutes. Don't know if it will ever go away (locating satellites). Any advice.
Thanks! Didn’t solve my issue. But wondering if it IS an issue. Nuvi 40LM. Yeah it’s old. Every time I get in the car, for months now, t takes a min or 2 to acquire satellites / figure out where it is. I thought when it was newer that I’d get in car and it remembers where it is based on where it was when turned off the day before? Like there’s a battery / capacitor to hold that memory? No? Each day your gps has to start over / doesn’t know where it is from day before?
The 40LM does have math it performs to predict where the GPS satellites have moved to around the planet since last power-on for faster signal acquisition. As long as it has software version 4.00 (Settings, System, About), a simple test is to purposely start the 40LM outside the car with a clear view of the sky to see if signal is acquired quicker, even if just holding it in the hand out of the window. If signal is acquired quicker, then you don't need another one. If the wait time is the same, the internal GPS antenna may be starting to fail. Fortunately, the 40LM is cheap to buy for just $15 to $30 on eBay if you have to get another one.
@@sat103 Thanks. So it's not any battery / memory to remember where it is when it was turned off? I followed your steps. On this device, after holding elevation, I get a screen with the title 'GPS SNR Logging'. It has details about the satelites it sees, 'start log', 'back', 'wrm Start' and 'prdc wrm st'. I did a wrm start. I'll see if that helps.
I have a nuvi 1350. Last time I used it was about a month ago. Was working perfectly. At the time I even upgraded the maps/etc then. Today it cannot find satellites. Or if it does it takes forever then loses them with "lost satellite reception" message. Two questions (if anyone knows): (1) Did Garmin recently change something about their satellites such that they no longer work right with my 1350 nuvi?? And if so if I upgrade software again will that fix it? (2) What is shown in the video here does not match my nuvi. I do NOT have the options shown here to coldstart it etc. The ONLY options I have when I go to the screen with the elevation and click on it are two buttons on the bottom which say "Wrm start" and "Prdc Wrm St". Pressing those buttons appears to do nothing. Where is the "coldstart" option on the 1350?????? Thanks for any responses.
i have to do this every time i travel more than 5 states. once i get to where i am going, a lot of my address searches turn up nothing or give false/possative directions and acts all screwy until i do THIS. kinda similar to cell phones when traveling and needing to use air plane mode to reconnect to the nearest tower for better service.
I get the satellites but as soon as I switch on the ignition on my bike I loose all satellites as when I turn ignition off they come back, what would be the problem?
You basically answered your own question. Something electric on the bike when activated is interfering with the GPS signal. It's either happening through the power cord or elsewhere on the bike. Start the bike and run the GPS on its own battery to see if the GPS signal holds. If it does, interference is coming through the cord and you'll have to figure out how to ground/shield the cord or connector port better. If the signal drops whether plugged in or not while on the bike, something electric nearby when the bike is on is belching out a bunch of EMI and you'll have to figure out what it is, and might be something that can be shielded off with faraday tape (cloth tape with EMI shielding, on Amazon.)
Same thing happened with me when turn on ignition of my truck then new garmin dezl 700 lost satellite reception and when turn ignition of then get back to signal, I check all the chords and other devices but I couldn’t find out the real problem, what the hell it is
Something similar however my drivesmart is little over 2 years old and recently started taking hours to acquire satellites. Or would just lose signal in random spots that i never did. Garmins fix was buy a new one lol I’m currently trying this trick but on 15 mins out side and still acquiring lol
Hello everybody I have this problem with my camper 770 lmt-d wen I start car hav a signal when I make pause and restart car I dont have signal for 5-10 minutes every time. I hav reset ,new downloads Maps.. but it is the same.if you can help me with this problem please tell me what to do.
Thanks man . I’ve been having issues with mine everyday it’s been losing satellite after 8 hours of using it then it won’t acquire signals the rest of the day.
Good to hear. If you haven't updated your GPS with Garmin Express in a while, you might want to run an update to see if there is an updated time zone map for your model. That sometimes fixes signal issues. Whether you have a lifetime-maps model or not, you can still get the update if there is one available for what you have.
My drivesmart 61 has proved almost useless for multidrop use as I have to turn engine off to lock van when I start up again it takes ages 'aqquiring' sattelites & don't have time to wait each time for £200 I expected better than this !

You have no idea how much I friggin love you right now.. THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! 😁👍
This was driving me nuts with my relatively new Garmin….this did the trick - thank you so much !
Thank you very much for this information. I was having trouble with the satellite acquisition on my Garmin ZUMO XT for my motorcycle. These steps worked.
Was looking for exactly this. Thanks so much. Amazing that it's kept quiet on the Garmin site. (Well, I certainly couldn't find it). Cheers!

Very good information. Solved my problem in a blink. Thank you very much.
Worked for my garmin devil 700 thank you for posting this video

This might help when I go to Europe and turn on. It always takes a long time to acquire satellites the first time.
So i tried this on my older nuvi. It is similar, buf has options for "wrm start" and "prdc wrm st"
