You have done an outstanding job on this and your other videos. Your explanations are clear, detailed, and very useful. Thank you for all your efforts!
I wished I had seen your video before throwing away my old garmin and not knowing whether it's the battery or my car charger that had gone bad. Thank you for sharing this video! It's very informative!
that was fantastic - thank you very much. I was simply going to replace my Nuvi 2597 battery but now I'll do the diagnostic to see what's happening there
Thank you, that was really good information, super helpful. I would never had known how much the capacity of my battery was at. OR see how easy it is to change the battery. I wish I could just pay you to change the battery and tighten the power port. I love my gps, but it also has sentimental value to me as well. Keep up the GREAT work. Paul
I finally got that new CS battery in my 2597. I said I am not going to let this beat me. I had to flip it over to have enough length to reach the plug. This time I put it in the plug and pushed it down with my fingernail. I heard it snap into the plug. I put the back cover back on and turned it on. It lit up and It had a battery icon, instead of a question mark. I buttoned it up and plugged it into myMountaineer. I will leave it on until it has a full green bar. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for the very interesting info. I have a question about my 5-yr old Garmin Nuvi 68LMT GPS which started malfunctioning recently after being in a car which wasn't driven for about a month (needed a boost when I finally tried to start it). Namely: GPS starts, shows the map for a few seconds, then the screen goes dim, unit shuts off, restarts and repeats the cycle. When connected to a PC, it also starts, shows computer connection screen and again shuts off and repeats the cycle. I suspect GPS battery failure and would like to know if this and similar GPS units will malfunction as described if the battery is completely dead? Thanks in advance, Igor
Hi, No problem, You are correct this could be due to a bad battery, or a completely discharged good battery. So I recommend that you let it sit and charge for 8 hours before you try to use it. If the battery is bad you can simply replace it and you can get them at a reasonable price on eBay.
Thank you for this very helpful video. Just what I needed! Would you please help me with a Nuvi battery issue? I have a Nuvi 200 series that I use sometimes when I walk in the bush. Unfortunately its battery never lasts the distance. So I've designed & 3D printed an external battery holder that will fit neatly on the back of the Nuvi and can be used with old but healthy Samsung S4 phone batteries. I have a few of these, they're more than double the capacity of the Nuvi battery & can be easily & quickly exchanged in the field. The S4 battery has 4 terminals +ve, BSI, -ve, NFC & with a 2k4 resistor between the BSI & -ve terminal. However there's NO temperature sensor but I plan to add 1 in the holder. The Garmin battery has 3 terminals +ve, T, -ve. So my question is: can you suggest a suitable thermistor-resistor combo that I can add the the battery holder (this will be in close contact to the side of the S4 battery & powered by it) AND will be recognised as a valid temperature sensor for the Nuvi? Perhaps even utilising the 2k4 BSI resistor?
Greetings, Garmin units are very sensitive in detecting after market batteries and it may or may not work with it unless you use the control board of your existing old defective battery and just use the cell from the new battery. Please watch my video on this subject to lean how to do it. Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/c2mpLgBpBOM/v-deo.html
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thank you very much for your response and suggestion Khalid. I had actually already seen that video and found it very helpful too, so thanks for that as well. Like many people I have multiple devices that run off these small Li batteries (GPS, BT headphones, eReader, etc). Their batteries often don't last for the hours stated by the manufacturers, or for what I need; have over-inflated prices if buying genuine; and are often unavailable after a few years while 3/5/10 newer models hit the market. Ebay & the like are very hit and miss with quality & often have outrageously high stated capacities! If only the manufacturers would make their devices with a slot into which one could slip in a range of standard sized batteries similar to what phones used to use, then close a waterproof door if necessary. So I want small lightweight holders that can be attached, with double sided tape or velcro, to the rear of the units & into which I could use a good quality, high capacity old phone battery or similar. These batteries would be recharged with a separate dedicated charger & I can 3D print the holders. I prefer not to remove the BMS (Battery Management System) circuit (control) board on my old phone batteries & replace it with Garmin's BMS as then I could only use that battery in one Garmin device. And when I want to use the GPS all day in the bush, I would need many such batteries (& old Garmin BMS's too). So I'm hopeful of making many holders for the different devices that all operate off 3.7V; have minimal electronics &/or sensors in the holder; have a cable from the holder through a drilled hole in the device's case (sealed with silicone if necessary) & have that plugged into the device's battery socket. This would give me maximum power from the batteries. Alternatively I could include a DC-DC voltage boost circuit in the holder; boost the 3.7V to 5V; connect that via the USB connector; & allow the device to reduce the voltage to the device's operating voltage. This would be an easier construction; only usable on devices with a USB power input; BUT wouldn't be as energy efficient! It would effectively be a lightweight power bank. And both weight & maximum power can be issues on long hikes in ruggard terrain. So I'll try searching some more for a suitable thermistor-resistor combo suitable for the Nuvi. Maybe another reader has done this already & can offer some help?
Even with a brand new battery installed I've never had any garmin GPS unit run longer than 30 minutes on battery only, I've replaced over a dozen batteries so it can't be that all of them were defective, most of the models were 5 or 6 inch screens set around 75 percent brightness
Thanks for the great info. My Garmin Nuvi has a dead battery and does not work with the car power. If I remove the battery will the GPS then work with the car power? I have always had it plugged into the cigarette lighter so operating with the battery only doesn't matter to me.
No problem, so regardless of whether the battery inside your GPS is good or bad, it should work with an external power source such as a car cigarette lighter cable. When it is not powering up, it means the USB port on the GPS itself is loose and needs to be re-soldered. If you need help with that, I have multiple USB Port repair videos in my channel for different Garmin devices. Thanks
Thank you for this tutorial, it's very useful. But after replacing a dead battery if I try to charge it the battery icon turns red with a question mark in it. Does it need to be calibrated? What does it mean?
This means either the battery is not connected correctly or it is a defective battery. So make sure to push the plug all the way into the connector and provide support to the back side of the connector on the board so that it doesn't break as you push the battery plug into it. Also make sure the battery plug polarity is correct, although it doesn't go in the wrong way it could be mistakenly forced in incorrectly.
Hi, can you tell me if BL %DC 100 means Battery Life 100% and that it means (obviously) that it’s better than a battery reading BL %DC 70? Thanks for your videos! 😊 P.S. I’m running the battery test on a Garmin DriveSmart 51. Update- I’ve been looking that up and I think it might stand for Backlight Brightness instead.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101Thank you for that info. I have several used batteries from other parts units and I’m having trouble determining which ones are ok to use. Sometimes with the battery I decide to go with, the unit will work for several days and then it will just go dead (usually during an update) and won’t turn on again. I’m thinking I was using a sync cable that doesn’t charge and that could be a problem.
@@samanthaarden3592 Yes, that is correct, the sync cable will not charge the battery very well. You need to use the Original Car Charger or an original Garmin AC Wall adapter
It is like $13 on eBay for an aftermarket brand, but the original one would probably be three times that. Here is the link to the aftermarket brand www.ebay.com/itm/301967439085
These are great tips sir, really enjoy your videos. Thanks. 👍👍. Does Garmin sell these batteries or do they require you send the GPS to them for replacement. (Subscribed)
Thanks for your subscription, and yes Garmin sells them but they want too much for them. You can get them much cheaper on eBay. You can search it on eBay by just putting in the model number of your Garmin GPS followed by the word " Battery " and you will find it there.
NUVI 2455LMT was put away fully charged for approx 2 months. When I went to power it up, every thing is dead. Do you repair (change batteries) for customers?.....david
Thank you very very much for this video. I’ve learned that my garmin has a bad battery. My garmin has nothing for batt capacity and 0mA Batt current. I’ve been struggling for so long with my gps and was thinking of buying a new one. I drive for a living and a trucking gps can be a life saver. You got my subscription. Where do you recommend I buy the battery?
Thank you for your subscription, you can buy the battery on eBay for reasonable prices. However make sure to buy it from those sellers who offers Free Shipping and Free Returns just in case you have issues with the battery you could send it back at no cost to you.
Can u use that tip on the newer models? Also I keep getting a message saying use the Garmin power cord and adapter to have 100% brightness. I am however using them. Same ones straight out of the box
Since you didn't mention your exact model number I can't give you a very precise answer, however this tip should work on most newer models of Garmin as well. The power cord issue means that the USB port is not a 2.5A port, you must use a 5V DC 2.5A USB port to get full screen brightness.
This is caused due to overheating in a select few Garmin Navigation devices. The overheat happens on the chipset inside the GPS, and this is a known issue that I think Garmin should do a recall on. There are some users who fixed this issue by adding heat-sink paddings on the chips such as this one. www.ebay.com/itm/182001023125
Thanks for the video. I have a tomtom via225 that will not turn on. I have checked the battery with a multimeter, and I am getting 3.771 volts with no load. I have not checked the battery under load. Cheers.
There must be an issue with your TomTom's Main board, because even with a completely dead battery or no battery, the TomTom should turn ON via external Power.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thanks mate. I had a problem updating maps, and after following the instructions of TomTom customer support, my unit does not even power up now.
Thanks a lot for your excellent, detailed and clear description on various Garmin topics and priceless content in your channel. I've just discovered your channel and as devoted Garmin user from day one, far before millenium, my only regret is to find you so late. Quick questions: - Is battery change in Garmin 51LMTHD, similar to this one? (Easy and amanable) or any different. - On older C330, You showed the replacement but not sure where to find those batteries with hardwires. Because of the shape, I thought it it a regular AA battery. So is it possible to find a similar mAh AA or AAA or whatever the universal size (If I'm correct on that) rechargeable battery and only swap the battery, on those old model? Thanks a lot and way to go. Needless to say, Two thumbs ups. I've subscribed and clicked on the bell.

The battery on the C330 is not a AA battery it is thicker and has higher voltage of 3.7V , you can get them from eBay as a complete set with wire harness or just the battery. If you buy just the battery you must remove the controller circuit and wire harness from your old battery and attached it to this the new one. Excellent lesson on drums! I have Gramin Zumo 350 and the following happens: when I connect the cable, Batt Current =420 ma approximately When I use the Garmin mount and connect to 12 votls, Batt Current =3ma, only 3ma. Battery=OK CAP, MOUNT TYPE=Garmin Mount. The issue is that when connected to 12 volts, the GPS turns on but the battery icon does not show charge and Power SRC=Bat. Any ideas about the error? Thank you very much and greetings from Argentina
Thank you, the SRC errors is caused by a defective battery control board, or an aftermarket battery which is not Genuine Garmin. Even if the battery is new it can give the SRC error if the control board on the battery is either incompatible with the Garmin, or if it is defective. The solution is to transfer the old " Original Garmin" control board to the new aftermarket battery pack. For that you need to watch this video ua-cam.com/video/c2mpLgBpBOM/v-deo.html
wow! @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 I am really grateful for such a class on batteries! I will do the necessary tests and tell you the result. He was very kind to take the time to respond to me and give me so much useful information. greetings🙌
Yes, the GPS will work solely on external power even if you completely remove the battery from the inside. However, if there is the slightest bump on the road and if the power cuts off from the GPS, you have to re-enter your destination address and restart the navigation.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Wonderful! I noticed they have different connectors, and different wire colors (white vs yellow), and the third wire does have at least two options. I happen to have a couple of spare batteries to repurpose. Thank you very much for the insight.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101When a Garmin is turned off, it still drains battery. I added an external switch to the battery directly to stop the drain, so far so good.
This is really good to know! Thanks for sharing such guidance - I had no idea this monitoring capability was hiding right under my nose. I charged up my 50LMT with an external charger. It charged at 500 mA for a while and eventually tapered down to about 100 mA. I then disconnected the charger. It dropped to about 3% batt capacity and 3.44 V in about 25minutes and slowly declining more…. The test screen says “low capacity”. Do you think I need to replace the battery?
No problem, and yes you do need a new battery. A good battery should run your GArmin NUVI 50LMT for at least one hour before you get the low battery notification. If you leave the screen brightness lower you can stretch a single full charge up to 2.5 hours. Also the charging current on a good battery should be over 500mA more like 540mA give or take.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 I am noticing on Amazon that there are slightly different part numbers associated with the battery for Garmin 50LMT. It seems that the common portion of the part number is 361-00056-xx. The xx part appears in pictures and description as "00" or "21" or "00" or "50" etc. Does this matter? Do ou know know if these all truly interchangeable?
Hi, great video. My battery is completely dead. Charging for 24h then it last about 5-10 seconds!! Want to buy a new battery, but have not succeded to find a place to buy. Wrote to Garmin Support. Answer: The battery cannot be changed. Of course not a true statement, but a very bad excuse to sell now expensive units. Do you know where I can buy a new battery? Most Garmin-compatible batteries I found is not mentioning the Nuvi XT.
You don't need to buy an aftermarket battery, all you need to do is buy a cell and just change the cell of your existing battery pack. Here is how you do it ua-cam.com/video/c2mpLgBpBOM/v-deo.html
So as I understundom, I have to find a battery cell at the same size and voltade, and at least the same capacity in mA and then take the control board from the existens and connect to the new (of course with rigth polarisation). If this not help the control board must be defect? And this can be more difficult to find I assume. Thank you again for very great instructional videos.
This is very good information but my problem is the screen is very dim with a battery icon on it with a lightning bolt going threw the battery do you have any suggestions???
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thank you very much for the response. The model I have is the Garmin Drive 51 EX. Now since I wrote the question I plugged it into my computer over night about 12 hours and this morning it seemed to be working fine as the screen is up again. I am not sure what happened but I am thinking it was left on in the truck maybe a couple of days and although it was plugged in the battery ran completely down, Not plugged in tightly or maybe something wrong with the cord. In time I guess I will find out. The unit is less than a year old so it was frustrating not to have it working. Thank you again so much for the reply.
If the battery is bad, the GPS should still operate normally when powered from an external power source. However the external power source must have adiquit current to support that GPS. For example a 5VDC 2.5A Genuine Garmin car charger should be used. Not a lower current version such as a 5VDC 1.0A or 1.5A
Hi, just curious. My Garmin Nuvi 550 needed a battery, so I replaced it with an Amazon aftermarket one. It's been perfectly find for a year and now all of a sudden it's telling me it doesn't recognize the new battery anymore. It works as long as it's plugged in but won't charge. What changed I wonder? TY
The new battery is either bad, or the battery plug has become loose inside the GPS. So I would first open it and inspect the cable to make sure it's firmly in the socket. If that wasn't the problem I recommend replacing the battery again but this time with the original Garmin battery.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 3790. The screen is bright when I turn it on and it is NOT plugged into the charger. When I plug in the charger, the screen dims so much, I cannot tell that the GPS is turned on. Could this be related to the battery being dead? I am sure the battery has been depleted for a number of years. Thank you, Laura
That could be due to two different things. 1. The charger is not rated 2.5A it is only 1.0A or less. 2. The brightness settings when on Battery is set to much higher level, than when it is running on external power. FYI, the GPS has two brightness settings, one while it's running on battery, the other is when running on external power. You need to set both of them to high enough level so you can see the screen, but when it is running on battery set it a little lower so it doesn't drain the battery fast.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thank you so much. The battery does not work for long after I remove the GPS from the power cradle. But I checked the brightness setting and it was on high. I decided to see if there was an update. There was. I installed it and the GPS seems to work once again while in the charging cradle. Who knew Garmin was still sending updates?

I have a garmin nuvi 52 lm. I think my usb is not working correctly. Screen stays blank when connected. When I open it up the surface mount connector looks good. Im trying to rule out the battery. If I disconnect the battery but plug in the cable it should stay on like yours right?

I have fitted a new battery, but the satnav only comes on when on charge, what should I do now. I have done the battery test as advised in your great video, but where it said battery capacity there it just show a line.
The new battery could be either defective, or the battery plug is not pushed in all the way inside the socket. Also an expired battery could cause this, the battery could be brand new but it might be passed it's expiration date.
Hi, i wonder if you could help me.. I have the Garmin GPSmap 60CSx It will not power up with fresh batteries but will do when USB plugged in. Would you have any ideas why his would be?? Thanks.
The most likely cause would be oxidization on the battery terminals. Use an alcohol swab to clean the battery holder terminals. If there is persistent battery leak residue then you must use low-grade sandpaper to clean it.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Hi, apologies for my delay in replying. Thanks for you input, but the battery terminals are clean & tidy at this time..after thinking about how & why i came to realise where the unit was stored..it was kept in the inside of the van door where & i suspect something has come loose inside the unit due to the vibration going through the vehicle..maybe a soldering repair needed on the inside?...i don't know, I'll let you know the outcome.

I noticed he following code: Battery NTC Fault. But if I move the plug 🔌 a little behind the gps device, then it says Battery Charging. Even if I have the gps plugged in, it turns off and on over and over again. Could it be that the charging port be loose and/or have a loose connection? Or the power cord?
Yes that is exactly what it is. NTC means Not Transferring Current, which indicates the charging port or charging plug has a loose connection. So you need to watch a Garmin USB Port Repair videos to fix it.
My Garmin 260w is new from Amazon . It doesn't turn on without a cord . At least what you're showing me will let my know about the battery before opening it up

Hi,I've garmin dezl 770,my garmin doesn't show any battery indicator etc it won't turn on at all? Their is power from the main charger lead going to the garmin but no power indicator at all? Any help would be great 👍 thank you.
This could be due to a bad/loose USB Port on the Garmin GPS. Usually you can tell if that is the case if you do get power when you wiggle the cord slightly. Although sometimes it will be so badly damaged that even wiggling will not give it any short time power. If that is the case you need to watch my video on how to take it apart and repair the USB Port. Thanks
Hi, you will need to search for the battery using the 10 digit Garmin Part Number. For example it will look like this 361-00043-00 but this is not the correct one for your GPS. So you have to open it to see which battery is installed in it. They come with 3 different types of batteries, two of which are interchangeable and one has a completely different connector.
The battery control board is bad, even if the battery cell is good you can't use it with a bad control board. So you need to get a new battery. Also, you get this error when you use a Non-Garmin generic battery or a different type of battery. If you don't know what a battery control board is, then you must watch this video ua-cam.com/video/-kFmvzN5_hM/v-deo.html

It means either the Car Cigarette Lighter Port does not have power, or the cable is bad. It can also mean the USB port on the GPS is bad, or the cable power rating is lower than what the Garmin needs. Most newer Garmin's need 2.0A power, while the smaller ones only needed 1.0A or 1.5A
You can get it on eBay, but if you need it fast make sure to buy it form a USA seller otherwise you will have to wait for a month to get it from China.
Yes the device should operate when plugged in to car cigarette lighter adapter regardless if the battery is good or bad. However if the battery has an internal shortage or leak then you will need to replace it even if you are using it on external power.

This was the answer: Hold Zoom Out, Quit, and NRST while turning on the device, after letting go of power, the device should "freeze" on the GPSMAP 296 page, at that point, remove the battery. Power back on and the device should have removed all user settings. Might be worth also looking at the contacts if you see any damage or debris.
You will need to update the firmware, then restart the unit and let it set outside under clear sky view so it can get GPS Fix. After that go to settings and change the clock tot auto if it is not set already.
In every Garmin unit it is different. However on a Garmin NUVI 265 a new battery will drop 1% every minutes, and a used good one will drop 1% every 30 second. This means a new battery will give you 3 hours of runtime with screen brightness to low, and a used one will give you a little over an hour of run time. This is under ideal conditions and in real life the time duration is less than that specially if it is extremely cold.
These are my results. All tests were conducted in the diagnostic mode with full (100%) brightness. All the batteries in the Garmins were replaced and fully charged. The tests started at the disconnection from the charging source. Conclusion: Batteries are only good for holding the settings while you do a fast rest stop down the highway. @@hawkeyedino Except for the Garmin 2797 battery, the rest look good. In a real-life situation, you don't run it at 100% brightness, so you should get a couple of hours of use before the battery drains out.
Not a very clear explanation. You explain what the numbers are, but do not clearly say which numbers and at what levels they tell you to replace the battery. Please clearly say something like: "When "x" goes below this level, then you need to consider changing the battery." Thanks.
When the charging current goes below 450mA you must change the battery, or when the rate of charge percentage dropping faster than 1% per minute you need a new battery.

Hi, No problem,
You are correct this could be due to a bad battery, or a completely discharged good battery. So I recommend that you let it sit and charge for 8 hours before you try to use it. If the battery is bad you can simply replace it and you can get them at a reasonable price on eBay.
Great video, very well presented and explained. Many thanks.

Thank you very much for your response and suggestion Khalid.
@@InventiveMan As you mentioned you can use a lightweight USB Battery Bank or use this one www.ebay.com/itm/265904152844
Even with a brand new battery installed I've never had any garmin GPS unit run longer than 30 minutes on battery only, I've replaced over a dozen batteries so it can't be that all of them were defective, most of the models were 5 or 6 inch screens set around 75 percent brightness
You can double the capacity of your battery on any GPS device by following these steps ua-cam.com/video/-kFmvzN5_hM/v-deo.html

Hi, thank you for sharing yore knowing. Do you have any idear why my Garmin Nuvi goes blanco when its hot outside?
This is caused due to overheating in a select few Garmin Navigation devices. The overheat happens on the chipset inside the GPS, and this is a known issue that I think Garmin should do a recall on. There are some users who fixed this issue by adding heat-sink paddings on the chips such as this one. www.ebay.com/itm/182001023125

Thank you, the SRC errors is caused by a defective battery control board, or an aftermarket battery which is not Genuine Garmin. If this not help the control board must be defect? And this can be more difficult to find I assume.

OK, may be the battery is bad, but why it still idles in the car? I have tried more sockets and adapters and it stil wont work...

Thank you,

I recommend that you watch my Navigating by a GPS vs a Smartphone video linked here ua-cam.com/video/ranYKwsW4-I/v-deo.html

Hi. I'm finding your videos very helpful so thanks for posting.
However, I have an issue with my Garmin Nuvi 57LM in that it wouldn't power up so I carried out a reset.
Because I bought it in Thailand, after the reset, the scripts are all in the Thai language whereas before they were in American English (QWERTY)
I have been able to navigate to the settings and selected the mouth icon for languages and have selected American English (QWERTY) again but it hasn't made any difference and is still displaying Thai script.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I can no longer use the unit.
No worries, I will make a special video for you to walk you through step by step in changing it back to English. It should be ready in less than 30 minutes.
Here is the special video I made for you ua-cam.com/video/s5JVew_evhI/v-deo.html

Thanks
HI I have a ZUMO XT an have to change Battery, where can I buy a new one, I tried ebay as you mention in one coment but no luck
@technologytips your videos are amazing, in my battery i get NTC fault, i tried to google it, no luck, any idea what that means
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thanks again, a lot of folks buy from EBAY and it says battery is good, so does it mean I can't buy a replacement battery and use for garmin, or was i just unlucky with the one i got
Or could it be my garmin is having issues?
@@arunsathyamurthy8332 When you buy a used Garmin GPS unit and the owner says's " Battery is Good" it doesn't mean it is as good as new. Batteries always lose capacity as time goes by, even if the battery is not being used and stored the chemicals inside expire on a certain date. Having that said only trust batteries that are sold as New, and from a seller on eBay who has the ( Top Rated Seller) badge.

I have a Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S and when I go to the diagnostics screen, the Battery Capacity is shown as blank. Any ideas?
To check the battery capacity you have to be running the GPS from the battery power, not through the USB Port. So first fully charge the battery and then go to the same diagnostic page while it is running from battery without any USB power.
I have nuvi 2497, I damage pin data - from usb, in the circuit data - Can I build a bridge to a wire? thanks

Hello... My Garmin GPS is not working when i insert a battery in it. Even a new battery.. I have checked the battery terminals, and it's working perfectly, but when i insert the battery, it isn't working... But when i plug a charger for the GPS, it works perfectly... What could be wrong with my GPS, please?
Hi, I need to know what the model number of you Garmin GPS is.
I did not have any problem connecting my Garmin 50 LM to a USB charger. I disconnected the cord from my Samsung charging unit and plugged in my Garmin Sync cable into the 1.0 Samsung charger. It connected and powered up in normal mode - no sync bar or icon.
That is very strange because it should have activate the SYNC icon.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 it did not. I even activated the self test. I have a bad battery in that 50 LM. It died on me a couple of days ago on a trip home. I have had it around ten years.
@@johnclarke6647 The battery for the 50LM is pretty inexpensive on eBay, and you can do the replacement yourself it is relatively easy.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 already ordered. I am putting a 2,000 mAh battery in it. I have also ordered a used 2597 that I got for a good price. I ordered a 1,200 mAh batter for it if it needs it.. I am not a millennial. I am a former radar maintenance chief in the US Marine Corps. I never could get that old battery in the 50 LM to accept one drop of current. It had been failing for several months but it got me to my daughters place in Kentucky and failed on the way home. I will send you a pic of it running on a tablet charger if you like. I was surprised it ran after watching your video but it did, just like it was plugged into the car.. I will also use it to charge up my ne 2597 when it comes in tomorrow. I have been surprised no one has covered the self test feature in a Garmin GPS. I found it accidentally.it checks everything - battery condition, RAM, video, DC in, etc
My garmin 595 doesn’t show battery capacity while charging, is that good or bad
Turn ON the GPS put the tip of your nail on the battery icon for 30 seconds and it will take you to the Diagnostic screen which shows your battery capacity.
if my garmin smartdrive 65 says battery low while its plugged into y car what does that mean ??
It means either the Car Cigarette Lighter Port does not have power, or the cable is bad. It can also mean the USB port on the GPS is bad, or the cable power rating is lower than what the Garmin needs. Most newer Garmin's need 2.0A power, while the smaller ones only needed 1.0A or 1.5A
Where did you get your battery from
You can get it on eBay, but if you need it fast make sure to buy it form a USA seller otherwise you will have to wait for a month to get it from China.

the battery of my device is defective will it still work with the power cable that came with it when plugged into the car?
Yes the device should operate when plugged in to car cigarette lighter adapter regardless if the battery is good or bad. However if the battery has an internal shortage or leak then you will need to replace it even if you are using it on external power.

How do I tell what model my Garmin Nuvi is? It's about 20 years old.
On most models it is written on the back or at the bottom of the GPS. If the sticker is not there anymore you can go to settings, system, about and you will see it there.

Any body have any knowledge with the Garmin Marin Multi Function Displays? I have a Garmin 7602 stuck in boot recovery loader screen. Force update doesn’t work. How could someone go about reprogramming the chip. I have a T56 programmer but I am new to PCB repair, early in my education. I’m active on some discord channels for repair but obvious these aren’t common. I’m hunting everyone for help with these as eventually repairs on these specifically is the niche I’m after perusing!
I don't have much experience with the Garmin Marine GPS Navigators, but you can try using Garmin Web Updater to reload the Firmware.
Does anyone know where to source a replacement battery for a Zumo XT?
Garmin Zumo XT Battery is very hard to find, you can try AliExpress, or eBay. If you can't find it you can use any battery of the same size and voltage, and as long as you take out the control board from the original battery and use it on the new battery it should work fine. Here is how you do that ua-cam.com/video/c2mpLgBpBOM/v-deo.html
My garmin s60 approach that I only used 4 times says battery critical and won’t turn on!!!!!!
It doesn't sound like a bad battery, it seems to me you have a bad Power Cable or bad USB Port, because it is not charging the battery. Even if you have a completely dead battery the Garmin should still operate with external power.
Thank you for all your hard work.
Thank you kindly.
Good tutorial.

I have a gpsmap 296. I didnt use it for 2 years. Now its only working with adapter. Battery dont charge. On the screen there is message saying ‘battery missing’
Any one can help me with the problem? Latest update is from 2017. Do i need a new battery or new update?
If it is not taking charge you need a new battery, but if the maps are from 2017 then you also need a software update, and map update.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101thanks for the reaction.
but if i just change the battery without the upgrade. Would it work then?
@@zininho The map update is not required and it is optional, however there are some firmware updates that are required for accurate navigation and GPS positioning. So if you change the battery your GPS should function fine, but it will not be super accurate on the positioning. For example it will tell you " You have arrived at your destination" when in reality the destination is 50 feet away.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 i asked the same thing to Garmin support. This was the answer:
Hold Zoom Out, Quit, and NRST while turning on the device, after letting go of power, the device should "freeze" on the GPSMAP 296 page, at that point, remove the battery. Power back on and the device should have removed all user settings.
Might be worth also looking at the contacts if you see any damage or debris.

Thanks, if you check my newer videos it has been cleaned up substantially.
My etrex is showing the date of 1904. Importing gpx to Relive.
You will need to update the firmware, then restart the unit and let it set outside under clear sky view so it can get GPS Fix. After that go to settings and change the clock tot auto if it is not set already.
1% every 30 seconds, try explaining that again for I think that's wrong
I am questioning the quality of the battery for the 2797 I got off of Amazon.
