- When Amazon introduced the second-gen Echo Show display last year, it was a huge upgrade over the original, with a built-in browser, better sound and more video options than before. Just months later, however, and Amazon has released a new model called the Echo Show 5 (In case that's confusing, the "5" refers to the screen size, much like how Amazon names its Fire tablets).

I love this device for its smarts, camera and great speakers. Definitely recommend. I like the nest hub also. Just in a different way.

This is the third review that I’ve seen on this device and yet no one is demonstrating how video calls look on this particular screen.
Picked one up during Prime days for $49.99. Looking forward to checking it out.

This is the best video on EchoShow 5. It does so much more than shown on the other review videos, like connecting to Nest and browsing on Firefox, which made it more valuable. Looking forward to getting one

I have had my echo show 5 for about 2 weeks and I’ve started to notice when I tap on the screen I get small flickers at the top and bottom of the screen. Anyone else?
Can this watch itself, after a long power failure (2 weeks), set the exact time by connecting to the Internet?
Really don't understand why you don't compare it to the Lenovo smartclock instead of the Nest Hub..
I mean it's so obvious that's it's meant to compete with it.. same design, same form factor, same fonctionnality.

If it has a camera, people complain about privacy issues. It it doesn't, then people complain about not having video calling. I like my video calling. So sorry Google, I went with Echo Show instead.
i got my echo show 5 today. But i must admit i m very happy with it.
I got my show today also, my wife reaction was... really another one, but after playing with it she really likes it and said, good buy.

How is lack of camera a positive thing for the Nest? You shouldn't even be comparing it to the Nest.
Can this be rigged up to a bed shaker to remotely activate it? I have a deaf daughter I need to be able to wake up remotely via WiFi.

We like the audio quality of the Echo Show 5 . . . Until . . . you pair a bluetooth device, or an Amazon remote. After disconnecting the bluetooth, the built in speaker looses it’s fidelity and sounds very tinny. To return the fidelity to the built-in speakers, I have to unplug the power and plug it back in. Also, when I paired the Amazon remote, the mic function did not work; all the other features worked. I had to pair the Amazon remote to my Echo Dot, and then the remote updated itself and the mic function would work on the Echo Show 5. I may just have a faulty device.
Canadians be warned. You don't get many of the benefits of this device if you live in Canada. Not even temperature support. Keep an eye on it and if this changes, then maybe grab one.
3:35: if that's something to be mindful of then u shouldn't have any devices in ur room at all.. I find that pretty unrealistic for the avg person. But every1 complains abt the cam and privacy. Meanwhile i didn't even know the Nest didn't have one. Somehow to me that's even worse as you literally don't even get a choice.
4:50: so I get a camera,but a smaller screen for less. I think I'll go with the echo as the Nest is too Google integrated. Which is great if u have an android phone but I've recently switched to Apple and want something that doesn't pressure me to switch back. (cuz I'm ok with this iPhone for now.)

I'm looking to replace a old bedroom alarm clock.. Problem is that I like to be woke to ALL NEWS AM RADIO STATION... None of these will wake me to a radio station... I must talk to it? Or am I wrong? TY in advance, Joe

It is dimmable manually or automatically..I use mine in that way and LOVE it!
Stupid Alexa alarm is driving me mad. We do not want to have to speak to Alexa when the alarm goes off, just tap it to snooze. We used to be able to then cancel the alarm by tapping the screen at any time and selecting cancel. It would then go off the next week day (it is set for every weekday at 06:30). Recently, this has changed. There seems to be no way to cancel it without it then disabling the alarm for the next day, so the next day it never goes off. Crazy! What on earth have Amazon done to make this thing so user unfriendly? I don’t want to be forced to speak in the morning, Alexa, snooze etc. Why has this changed? It has been driving us nuts for weeks!

Your phone costs how much? Compared to a $50 on prime sale device. . . . . You might find using the echo device a bit liberating from the phone's constant addiction.
Anybody know why the screen goes dark?
Because of the ambient light on the Alexa turn it off on the settings

Lloyd_365 it’s more then that it’s got Alexa! And if you have ring you can say show me my front door and you can see it. You can also do the usual Alexa stuff....dim my lights! Play push it by salt n pepper....let’s see a regular alarm clock do that. You can say show me a recipe for banana bread....again your regular clock ain’t doing that....order me a pizza! Call uber....all that stuff your regular clock isn’t doing for you.
Why is she comparing Echo Show to Google device? You either an Alexa home or Google Home. I'm using Alexa cause she can flip my TV channels and replaced my Harmony controller while Google can not.

Forgot to tell everyone that Amazon has their advertising "Try Alexa" this that and everything on everything that shows. From Sports to weather and on and on and there is no way to get ride of this GARBAGE from the screen. Want to view a photo this stuff is everywhere. Yes. there are a couple areas to turn off notifications and ........ Point. You have to turn off all your features you bought to get ride of most of them... MOST OF THEM.... then why pay for all the features. Because they think everyone is totally stupid and can never remember an Alexa command.
Other then that a few glitches where it won't turn off music. This reviewer must get paid a lot to go right over some of the worst part of this expensive alarm clock, that you have to turn off every feature to get rid of the 5 year old reminders. OK sell it all and go back to "Hey Google" much better and functional. Only went to AMazon so everyone wouldn't have to say Hey Google all the time. But, better price, less quality internal speakers, but it will be worth it.
Also, unless you use Amazon Video Cameras, they won't display on the device, also iHeart Radio, ya. Alexa plays JUST the Live Radio Stations. All other stations and playlists etc. All have to come from Amazon Prime, Prime Photos, and prime music. NO TRUE outside venders allowed. Its a gimmick. Google sidestepped this with a cast system, so YT music, etc its all cast to the devices such as iHeart Radio, etc, and you can control your TV and Netflix to play a movie etc.
Not sure if this reviewer ever used the product for more then a couple minutes, BUT, i still didn't get any answer to the WHY the mini HDMI in the back?
Oh, Google added a USB fast charging in the back. I hate saying Hey Google, but wow. Way to many things to give up for a word. Alexa, or Google.
