I have the 4 gen dot clock and you can hit it to snooze an alarm so I guess that you can just beat on the new one because it has more features. Thanks for all your great info and the skits at the end of each vid are hilarious. Bless you and your great family!
Hey! The main problem I have with Echo Dot 3 with Clock on my night stand is that even with the lowest brightness setting it is too bright at night. I'm curious if this has been solved with the Echo Dot 5 with Clock?
@@RB-us6tf true
@@RB-us6tf It has an ambient light setting to adjust for surrounding light. Works well for us.
Such a pretty and competent Echo product it is! I think I am going to try it.
I just wanted a clock and I ran into this product. It's more than perfect with all the added features. Winning!
Lmao 😂
same here, was looking for a new alarm clock but ended up on an amazon store page for one of these.
The new display is pretty cool in this 5th gen smart speaker - love the portable size as well.
I’m sure you do
Yes, I saw different comparisons of these 2.. but this guy... man.. u did gr8!! job! Thx!
The review that I wanted exactly i.e. echo vs echo Dot 4th gen 😀. Thanks
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed 5 vs 4 premium
Excellent review. Just what I needed.
Whole reason I got a 4th gen was because of the zigbee hub. Got a fantastic deal on smart lights that whose service was discontinued by the manufacturer and this was a way to make them work.
Nice new features 👍🏼
Thanks for using techno music, it makes it easier to know the difference. I was going to get the 5th but now i’m more thinking to go with the 4th.
I just bought the 5th gen for my dorm room, and I got to say, this is lovely smart speaker (consider it is the first one I've ever bought 😂)
Really like the video you explained, very detailed.
This was so fun and interesting to watch.. I’m a fan now hehe. Thank you!!
Great video! Watched this after impulse buying one. Glad to hear it pairs with eero.
The 5th had great sound even at loud volumes, and its a nifty little device - when on sale it's a no brainer to get it.
isn't 4 better for voice and audiobooks?
I love the sound vs my old dot. Definite upgrade. However, the EERO extender was my reason for buying. It's awesome for that reason alone.
QQ, does the echo dot support eero mesh on 5GHz band?
The Echo dot 4 is getting the same EERO upgrade in the coming months, via a software update. So if you’re buying the 5 for that alone and u have a dot 4… you don’t have to.
@@jimmyxxx2005 yes.
How does the eero extender work
At the risk of sounding tech illiterate what does the EERO do?
nice review, really liked it!
Well, the 5th Gen device is definitely an upgrade in terms of audio quality. Also, Amazon is designing the processors quite well for these devices.
isn't 4 better for voice and audiobooks?
What a terrific video! Thanks
This seems to be intriguing. The Amazon Echo line of products, especially those with mediatek CPUs, have always been very cool.
I'm going to buy this for sure
Thanks for this!!!!
This is exactly the review I was waiting for before deciding whether or not to buy the Echo Dot 5. Thanks a lot!
You end up buying it ??
@@t2tx237 Not yet. I'm waiting for Black Friday.
They are on sale right for 39.99 with 2 smart bulbs!
Nice Video! What kind of Speakerstands do you have for the Yamaha HS Studio speakers at your Desk? I'm just renovating my Gaming Room and have the HS7 Speakers. Just looking for a wall or desk mount for these.
3.5mm jack omission is a bad bad idea. So many of us use it as voice-enabled access to our existing sound system. So for me at least its a no go.
Exactly!
Yeah me too
🧢
I haven't felt the need to have a stereo system since I was in my twenties. Now if I want to hear music it's on my phone or other devices. So the echo Dot 5th gen is perfect for me. I'll be using my echo Dot and my TVs for my stereo system when I want to play music in the house
And no mount on the bottom.
You’ve sold me on the word feature, I’d thought it was click only
I decided to research some of those voice recognition devices and concluded that despite the hype the most useful thing thing they can do is switch on and off the lights, TV and oven!
All things I can do without difficulty with my thumb and index finger... 😁
I bought 2 3rd gen dots, was $40 new for the pair, I put them both in bedroom on each nightstand, is nice to say play a certain type music and no having to put songs on USB stick. Is only reason I bought them and is much better with 2 in stereo. Gets too confusing with certain light bulbs or celing fan working also with Alexa.
Im pretty happy with my 3. gen, but the person detection sounds pretty cool so maybe I’m going to upgrade on the next Prime day. How well does it work for you? Or do you recommend a motion detector ?
"Daddy's Home!" But seriously, the whole point of smart plugs was to save power. They can do this by shutting them off when no motion is detected. Also, you don't have to buy 4 devices just to have a nightlight: two Flexs , one for the sensor and another for the nightlight. As well, they can act as a security sensor.
You'd be better off with a motion sensor. It seems to have a hardwired time setting of 30 minutes between activations. May work well if you just want to turn off a forgotten light, but don't rely on it for anything near real time activation.
I kinda wish the big echo had the display too
Probably coming with the next gen
i like the mounting options of the 3rd gen . to me anyway my 3rd gen is almost as good as my 4th gen . my gen 3 picks up my voice better for sure . I have a 4th gen in the living room and sometimes my 3rd gen all the way in my bedroom picks me up instead . also I like the 3.5 mm jack . probably gonna pass on gen 5 . at home we have a second gen echo ,three third gen dots and one 4th gen dot lights switches even put a relay in side my ceiling fan to voice control fan speeds .I love the voice control but I'm gonna keep at least a few with the 3.5mm jack.I use the music feature on it too much . I even set up a 3rd gen inside our maintenance workshop at work and the guys love it. I use it for music and quick mathematics it makes conversion quick and easy like "what is 5/8 in a percentage" or "what is 3 inches in mm" . it helps to have a practical use besides music for the bosses to keep happy
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
You know I'm thinking that it would be really cool if you did video reviews on products that are more affordable, on the economic side of things for instance wyse products. There's a lot of new wyse stuff that I didn't even know about that would be cool informative videos I think. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the content! 😀
Great that Amazon continues to push the hardware technology, but the Alexa App could use some love too. I've been suggesting, every chance I get to have the app display the room temperature on the cards (room), that contain an echo device or sensor that tracks the temperature. Still nothing yet!
I believe it does have a temperature sensor and you can set triggers Jen it goes below or above your settings. Still no display though.
Needs display for temp now
THANKS...VIDEO & REVIEW YANG BAGUS👍
If I were Paul, I would say, "Bezos balls". Good review Reed. Thanks for saving me money.
Thank you this helped me because i listen to music on the echo dot 3rd gen and it’s too loud… for bedtime plus not as clear and there are times the music stops
thanks for all the holiday pricing hacks my man
Nice presentation sir.
Thanks Reed.
I'm still using 3rd Gen. Works for me!
Hi Reed,
Thanks for the amazing and informative video on Dot 5. I was wondering is it possible to have an automation where if a smart plug goes off (mostly due to no electricity supply) then an audio message can be sent through Amazon Alexa which would be working on backup? Would you be kind enough to help me with this?
You are right, the echo 4th gen sound is still so much better but the price is also little higher. echo 5th and echo 4 th gen are both have built in temperature sensor and that’s important for my need. The new echo 5th is the price for me because i need more than one, and I would be placed them in the smaller room. Can echo dot 5th and echo 4th gen sound sound march together? Thank for your posting.
Thanks video
Nice comparison but what's the name of the speaker that you have on your desk?
LOL love the last bit
Echo dot 4 is getting the same eero upgrade in the coming months, via a software update. So if you’re buying the 5 for that alone and u have a dot 4… you don’t have to
Here I am loving the crap out of my 5th gen then find this vid.. dang. May move my 5th gen to the living room and get a 4th gen bigger speaker for my home office setup 😅
I'd be interested to see a review on how it works as a wifi extender.
with a preexisting Eero installation, mind you. It doesn't do it on its own.
What's that Blue Led Light Cube in the background on your workstation area? I want to get me that too!
Great video. But what if the echo 4th becomes a Matter Bridge exposing its zigbee devices to other matter systems?
Long time Google home and Smart things user here, thinking of switching to home assistant soon. Is there any way to get the presence or temperature sensor data into home assistant to trigger routines? I want a reliable presence detection but with the lack of availability on the aqara fp1 this seems like a cheaper option.
I have the 3 I’m going upgrade ❤
Can you do a video on home automation? I mean from start to finish. I have zero knowledge on what you need and how to set it up step by step
Unrelated to this video, we have a lamp in our foyer that turns on with a kasa smart outlet on a schedule for the evening and early morning, but I would also like it to kick on automatically if the light level in the foyer drops during the day (very overcast day or something like that). Any ideas?
Just got the 5th gen + clock today to replace my 3rd gen. The new features on it are kinda nifty, the sound is obviously better, and I even got 2 free lightbulbs with it for the Black Friday price, not bad.
I'm kinda fascinated by the display on it, can't wait to see a teardown somewhere. I do agree it's a little hard to read the display from afar, so I'm not totally sure if I'm going to replace my big red LED clock with it or just use this near my desk. I'll have to see if playing with the brightness helps at all.
I'm not a constant music player on it, if I was I'd say getting some halfway decent external speakers and plugging them into my 3rd gen would be the way to go, but that also would take a lot more room.
Here's a question can you turn the display off at certain times, like at bedtime?
Wait, is that a Flo by Moen Smart Faucet? Have you ever talked about that one?
We tried the last Gen dot with clock in our bedroom but the volume was wonky, at the lowest setting it was still very loud when we used any sleep sounds. We swapped it out for a 5in show and that was great, but the shows screen brightness won't adjust low enough, the volume is perfect though. I picked up a Show 15 and then moved a Show 8 into the bedroom and it sounds great but the bigger screen is brighter still even at 7-8% brightness level... I do enjoy all the functionality of my Amazon assistants especially when they drop in price during Prime Days!
Try this at bedtime, "Alexa, turn off screen!" And adjust the volume in the app to get fine granularity over volume control.
Hey Reed, thank you for awesome & fun video! 👍 Tell me please, if not a secret, with what camera and lens are you filming, the picture is super smooth & hollywoodish🤩 I am realtor and looking forward to upgrade from filming with iphone to better quality videos of myself & properties. Grateful & wishya success! 💪😎
Hey thanks for the nice comment! I'm using a Sony A7IV with a few different lenses. Here are some behind the scenes of the lens and camera ua-cam.com/video/_Hsxync_Igc/v-deo.html
I checked out your channel and those are some awesome houses you are selling. For you I would recommend a really wide angle lens like the Sony 12-24 or the 16-35 so you can get the whole room in one shot. I use the Tamron 17-28 and it works great too.
@@SmartHomeSolver Amazing, thank you so much, will check all the options out, yaay! 🥳🔥😎
Thumbs up & new Subscriber. Gave the Dot a good smack. Thanks for the video.
I got the gen4 should I wait for something else get the g5 am a new subscriber thank u
Hey Reed! Do you think we can push written messages to the led display from home assistant or similar?
Sounds like a skill someone could make
0:24 "Hit me baby one more time" 💀
Hit and say yeah that should pause defined 😂😂😂
Hey guys, I need your help. Is there a way to enable/disable multiple routines simultaneously in the Alexa App? It drives me nuts to disable them one at a time.
Alexa become CodeJohan’s
Siri at the end 😂
how are the mikes ? my eco 3 went from hearing me from another room to having to yell sometimes from 2 meters away, a lot are complaining about this which is likely to be an intentional downgrade.
I have a question for a smart home solver, the echo dot 5th gen is 27 bucks in amazon is it worth it?
I like the larger echo fourth GEN and fifth GEN. I just don’t understand why they don’t have the clock like they do on the dot.??!!
I have the echo 4th that I use for music and be my main smart speaker and it’s great. Got it for $60. Probably will skip the 5th then
Nice T-shirt :)
Does the clock time show up on the front of the sphere on the black one like it does on the white one?
I wonder why the Echo does not have that nifty display? All in all, I think I will buy the Dot. Thanks for a good review.
I have 4th gen Dot and it is great. I think feature addons in 5th gen are incredible. Temperature se sor, slightly better sound and better display are gamechangers actually. But, man sound quality of Homepod Mini is sensational. Incomparable.
I'm looking to ceiling mount these. Can the display be inverted?
so if you use the third gen with your own speakers, than it is the best option of all three
I have an echo dot 4, and I use the 3.5mm port to connect it to an old Logitech X-230. Sounds is a million times better, It's sad that I will be loosing that ability in future.
The cheap Flex on sale has an mini out plug. I use it to send audio to my 5.1 Chanel stereo. Works great. (You can also plug a light onto it, or a sensor.) Refarding sound quality, its 16bit 44khz (CD quality). Wondering what all this Ultra Hi Def was about, I got two Studios, the Wi Mini, and a Cube, and a sub, but can't honestly say there's really a diff, or perhaps just don't care. Ok, the bass is great. The Flex as a good cheap streamer is the best kept secret. I nailed it on my first try, $800 cheaper.
There is a version without the clock. Make sure you get the one with a clock.
Is the clock display dimmable or can it be turned off for when one goes to sleep.
Could I pair a 4th and 5th gen together as a stereo pair !?
Can it be set up to stop the alarm by tapping the the top, or does it just snooze it? I want to be able to cancel the alarm without speaking.
We've been using Alexa since the very first Echo was released (the old tall black can). That Echo still lives in our kitchen and we have an Echo Dot in every room. I'm wondering whether you've had trouble getting the correct Echo to respond. We have two in adjacent bedrooms, and I find that when I ask the one in my bedroom to turn on the lights, Alexa next door will give me a lot of back talk about how she just doesn't know what that means and where I can go to fix it. Another "feature" I wish I could turn off is what I call the "by the way" mode. Often when I give a simple request or command, I get a longwinded "by the way, you can. . ." I find myself saying "Alexa, shut up" a lot.
Yesterday, I was standing between the bedrooms yelling for Alexa to shut up while she was giving me a lot of unwanted instructions. One of them responded, "I'm sorry, I don't know how to do that on this device." LOL! "I'm talking and I can't shut up!"
"alexa, stop by the way", this command will snooze the chit chat but for how long?
@@dnoland77 Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try.
@@dnoland77 Thank you for the tip!
If you have two nearby, change the name of one. You can choose from five. I use Ziggy, Computer and Echo in my home.
@@TheCurlyFitChicOriginal That is a great suggestion! We just started doing that & it saves a lot of frustration.
I love that voice, sounds very robotic. Is there an update?
Prime day right now so might replace my Echo Home 1st gen.
So how does this help those of us who don't have any of these smart devices?
Please tell me that you are already working on a video about the new routines of Google home
Can you explain what eerie router is?
should i buy the 5th gen as my first?
The 4th gen shows the alarm time too for a few seconds when its set.
“No I’m just kidding! Amazon would NEVER do that! 😂” *Articles with ads appear in background*
what song where you playing while doing the difference in both gen?
I have Orvibo products, I would like to Have an Amazon Alexa Device.
Which type will be suitable for me?
Can’t decide if I want white or the new cloud blue. I have a white background be already (4th generation) might try new color.
Well i dont have any alexa or any kind of device that matches with it.But should i really buy one?
I am extremely happy with my echo 3rd gen! And I love the thing that I can hang it below main plug :)
I wonder if the echo dot 4th or 5th gen can be paired with 3rd gen to be used as a stereo speakers?
Larger echo has better sound, why I never heard if it 😮
Echos can only be paired with their exact model to be stereo
@@james2008957 oh, thank you! Then I will buy 3rd gen
Can i use 4mm x 1.7mm power plug on echo dot 5th gen with clock?
I want an Echo device with a clock to replace a 4-yr-old Echo Plus. Is the Dot 5's audio quality noticeably worse than an Echo Plus?
tech is good now
Smacking all the way! 😆
