Quick correction!: I think it would be better if Zangoose and Seviper swapped times of day; with Seviper being more available during the daytime, and Zangoose being more active at night. I don't know why it slipped my mind to look up the animals that these Pokemon are based on and find out when they are most active, like I did with other Pokemon. But a few of y'all have pointed that out to me, and I wanted to address it here! Thanks for all y'alls feedback!
One of the devs in Game Freak has admitted to them purposefully omitting features from carrying over to the next games to "incentivize still playing the older games." As if the features _already_ naturally locked to regions (villainous teams, trainer types, gyms and the league, player characters, the story, etc) don't already do that. Features like the Vs Seeker, the dive spots and the Underground, Street/SpotPass (and just the wireless online features from Gen 6 in general), Pokemon Amie, and the Battle Frontier are probably all victims to that mentality.
I actually have a bit of a Mandela when it comes to Meditate being in granite cave as well. I also thought when I was a lot younger that meditite was a pokemon you got there, but only in ruby (I was a sapphire and emerald main). I think this is because the fighting gym has a lot of meditite and we associated them with the cave.
That opening Monologue reminds me of my favorite book Nightfall. It started as a short story but was later expanded to a novel. There's a planet with 6 suns so it never experiences night except once every 2499 years. 5 of the suns set and the other one gets eclipsed. The planet experiences night and the population goes nuts and starts fire everywhere for the light.
I didn't understand the day/night cycle in silver. I was a kid and I couldn't stay up late lol. I remember playing in summer once and catching night pokemon I hadn't seen before
Zangoose and Seviper should be the other way around. A snake would like to sunbathe during the day but a cat-like mongoose might want to hunt at night.
The intro was evocative. If a world never experienced night what would happen? Now it makes me wonder about Kanto, and how everything is in stagnation. No day/night, no weather in an urban environment. It's like hell.
Considering how shuppets dex entries say that it’s most active during night time, I fell like all of mount pyre encounters should be at night with the exception of chimecho, it would feel bland yes but it dose kinda give you a reason to revisit the area during night
The idea of Swablu moving around the region during the day is SUPER COOL and it made me realize I'd love to see that sort of thing! I've looked over time-of-day encounters in a lot of places, but they mostly assume the Pokemon all live on the one route and don't move around at all. Such a cool concept. The early gens always feel like their encounters are based way more on ecology (like how Pidgey/Rattata show up basically everywhere in Kanto lol). It's easy to say it's just lack of variety from a lower amount of Pokemon, but imo it feels like a deliberate choice and a change in direction as the series has gone on. So yeah, the idea of Pokemon migrating from one part of the region to another as the day goes on? That's super cool! I love that! EDIT: I'm pretty interested in seeing your perspectives, so I'll be watching the older videos. I started with Gen 3 (LeafGreen) and moved onto Gen 4/5 (Diamond, SoulSilver, Black) before dipping out until pretty recently. This is not counting my (kind of related? but kind of separate?) interest in the anime/manga, which I didn't really keep up with super well but did pay attention to whatever was going on broadly. Anyway, I've started to appreciate the difference in the overall direction of the series at different points. You can feel how the older games were super limited on purpose (expecting you to use TMs, for example), or how Gen 2 actually introduced new Pokemon by saying they were NEWLY DISCOVERED in the time frame between games, which isn't really how new Pokemon are framed in-universe anymore! They're kind of assumed to always have been there, at least by the characters in the games. It's really been neat, seeing how Pokemon has transitioned slowly into a more streamlined game, and also more friendly to things like real-life competition. Or how some Pokemon are just BAD because they were designed around being a boss monster (like Brock's Onix) or around the player using them for a specific point in the game (like Beedrill against Misty's Starmie). Sorry if this is a really big, weird tangent! But I've just been really enamored by seeing the ways old Pokemon games may have been more deliberate than most people give them credit for, and it's really fun to see lots of perspectives of these games from a variety of angles. So I did enjoy this video, and I'm really interested in seeing your thoughts on these other regions, knowing you've been a longtime fan (even a little older than me lol) Also, sorry to ask this after such a wordy comment. But I am just curious, why Saffron City? lol
I honestly hadn't considered having Pokemon move from one location to a different location until SilkTouchNinja mentioned it. It's a really unique idea! I'm really glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Awesome suggestions. Especially the Wurmple evolution. It was so frustrating to not know which line they would evolve into and catching the cocoon stage of the other means you have useless moves until it hits the final stage. Also love how you used the term I threw out Tag Team Haunting.
I know, right? I always thought Wurmple evolved based on the time of day when I was a kid. Turns out, I just so happened to get more lucky with having Wurmple evolve into Silcoon. It wasn't until one of them evolved into Cascoon that I realized I was wrong 🤣
Honestly very good ideas it genuinely makes me wonder how Pokemon does not think of things like this when developing their games but fans can come up with way better ideas and concepts than they ever did lol
I think a day/night cycle would have been really cool for firered/leafgreen! Especially if we could get the gen 2 evolutions during the main story, it could be a fun way to bring more life to Kanto!
I have been having a rough couple of weeks. I'm not sure how I missed this. Glad to see you back though! This extra hoenn video hit the spot and gave me the pick me up I was looking for. Thank you!!! Can't wait for the next one! Hopefully youtube will notify me like it's supposed to😅
I absolutely adore the Hoenn games but that was the biggest feature I hated in those games was the removal of the Day/Night cycle, along with certain Pokemon not being available, and before FRLG came out, that was A LOT of Pokemon you couldn't get. Yeah I'd love to see all these changes to Gen 3, it would make them much more exciting! Ooh, do you think there are any Pokemon that should be tied to a certain day of the week like Lapras in GSC on Friday? I don't know what Pokemon I'd pick for that but that would be a neat additional feature.
@@saffroncitytv I like that idea, being the region’s pseudos and incredibly rare already, would make them even more special and rare if they were tied to a random day of the week.
Fantastic video as usual~ Plenty of great ideas, such as Skitty being nocturnal because of their Moon Stone association works so well, Zangoose and Seviper's rivalry essentially dictating which part of the day is safest for each respective side to come out, plus that Swablu suggestion from SilkTouch was adorable haha I totally see the reasoning behind the Meditite scenario, I personally didn't have the same issue BUT over the years it's become fairly easy for people to mix up locations or even entire Generations of Pokémon. Crazy how many folks still confuse Slugma and Skarmory as being Gen 3 Pokémon, since they're more easily available in Hoenn as opposed to their Johto debut. Like who has played Gen 3 and didn't run into Slugma during Fiery Path? Which for some was possibly their first time ever seeing one since Johto was so weird with how dirty they did some of their own 'mons. Love that you used the Volbeat/Illumise suggestion, definitely wanna make sure I try to add/contribute to any future polls/feedback posts for your upcoming videos in any way I can 🥳 Stoked for the Pokédex revamp video, take your time though since there's no rush, we know the video will be a banger regardless 😎✨️
I'm so glad you liked all of the suggestions! 😊 I'm sure people will really like your suggestions for Volbeat and Illumise! Also, I could TOTALLY see someone thinking Slugma or Skarmory were Gen 3 Pokemon. I don't think I had ever even seen a Skarmory in Gen 2 before playing Sapphire.
I really wish there'd be a version with both a day/night cycle and a season cycle. I think the best way to go about it is to decouple the cycles from real life. I like how the seasons in Gen 5 were tied to what month it was. It didn't feel like too big a commitment. Day/night cycles should be like that too - one day cycle could be 6 real life hours or something. That way you won't need to fiddle about your clock just to catch certain Pokémon.
I played RBY, GSC and RSE all at the time of release(and that pattern continues to this day big fan of gen 9) and I distinctly remember Hoenn feeling a bit undercooked and part of that feeling was due to a lack of a day night cycle and a fun post game. GSC definitely gave me high expectations for the RSE titles. I like gen 3 (emerald was my favorite game of the gen) but I’m very grateful for the modernization it received in gen 6 sans the battle frontier. Such a shame they didn’t add it.
I agree, the Gen 3 games did feel a little undercooked in some areas for sure. I really wish they would've included the Battle Frontier in the Gen 6 games, too. But for the most part, these games are fantastic!
I suspect both of you might have been a bit older when you played the 2nd and 3rd gen games compared to me, because as a 6-7 y/o kid playing 2nd gen, I never really grasped the many differences in encounters etc between day and night time, it was purely aesthetic change for me which was nice, but not something I mourned over at all when it wasn’t there in Hoenn. I was more upset the Pokemon sprites were not moving in R/S like in Crystal lol, but even then the pokemon looked so beautiful compared to G/S/C that it was hardly a step back. I never felt Hoenn was undercooked either, actually very much vice versa. All the huge improvements to graphics (colors, region itself, puddles with reflections etc etc) and mechanics (running, PC, double battles, quality of music etc) in the game easily overshadowed (and overshadows to this day) any missing details from 2nd gen games, including the missing day/night cycle, to the point I never really paid too much attention to it missing. I was just at awe of the new region and it’s pokemon, the graphics and music, all of it, probably most at awe than ever before or after, for whatever reason. It just hit perfectly for me. It’s also very telling that the original Hoenn games are something I love going back to again and again, They are the baseline of the modern games mechanic wise so easy to play still, graphics have aged well and still look great with the distinquished 3rd gen style, and there is just something special with the atmosphere of those games that gives me those nostalgia chills even just writing this here now. With this experience, it’s interesting that someone else had the experience of them being undercooked. Second region would have obviously been great, but for some reason Hoenn felt so separate from the previous regions that I never really expected it to have another region, and like I said, I was in awe enough from Hoenn itself so I didn’t really even need a second region. Hoenn is one the greatest Pokemon experiences to this day🙏🏼
Creepy Intro 😮😮😮 Wow for the bright side, only Gen 3 Hoenn suffers from the lack of night, I can't even imagine how disturbing would be to live in any version of a Kanto-only region
I was oddly happy with the lack of night cycle, mostly because I would've always ended up playing during the night and never experience the game in the vibrant daylight colours, so at least as my first pokemon game that was emerald, I didn't mind. Later on I appreciated a more complete Pokemon experience with the cycle which was much better in DS since it had a real time clock.
Great video! I love your pokemon fixing series, hoenn is one of my favourite regions and I agree with all your fixes! I think a crepuscular pokemon would be cool. Deer and foxes are so in real life, so maybe stantler and vulpix could be encountered in the morning and evenings.
Move Spinda and Skarmory out of Route 113. Move Spinda into Route 115 and Petalburg Woods because of Norman. Move Skarmory into Route 121 and Mt. Pyre. Move Koffing into Route 113.
I wouldn't make Spoink an exclusive nighttime encounter, it has to still hop around during the day so it doesn't die, but I agree, it should have a higher rate at night.
The intro makes me want to see you write a fan fiction about how actually miserable folks in regions with no day cycle must actually be. But anywho, great ideas. Especially like Skitty, Absol, Tropius (i agree it always looked like a way more important mon than it actually is to me since i was a kid) ideas most
Tentatively, I think considering the technology at the time I am somewhat happier that the day/night system wasn't there in the original game. Because of the internal battery issue. It can be fixed pretty easily but you do need a little bit of know-how to do so, so I think it's very preferable that it only impacts berry growth, Snorunt/Spheal, and Eevee evolution instead of cutting out a massive swath of the game. You thinking Meditite is in Granite Cave can probably be attributed to Brawly's gym.
This is something that I kinda overlooked in this video. 😅 I don't know why I didn't think to look that one up, but yeah, you're right, they should be swapped.
14:44 "lightning bugs"... okay this is only fueling my "Volbeat and Illumise should've been dual Bug/Electric from the get go" agenda even more, sure they'd still kinda suck to use but it still be something. Heck, look at their bloody movesets! Even in Gen 3, they can learn Thunder Punch, Thunder Wave, Thunder, Shock Wave, and Thunderbolt. XD
I think I'd really like some regional variants that make them electric and bug. It's such a cool type combo, and Vikavolt pulled it off well, but I think these two would've benefitted from the electric type addition even moreso.
I swear I had the same meditite mandela effect. I'm working on a ROM for emerald and adding Meditite to Granite Cave was one of the first things I did. (Btw I implemented a lot of your ideas from region repair in my hack, especially pokemon availability)
Oh awesome! Well definitely let me know when you're done with it! I think it would be so cool to experience a better version of Hoenn with QoL updates! 😊
It never bothered me but it was something kind of interesting to think about. Now that I think about it did any of the Game Boy advance games have a day and night cycle?
With Magcargo being such a bad Pokemon anyway and having an oddly high evolution level from Slugma, I'd put it on 113 if you remove Slugma from there, but at a low encounter rate.
meditite isn't available in granite cave?? i never encountered it in emerald, but i was so convinced it was a granite cave encounter in either ruby or sapphire (the version exclusive counterpart to makuhita) has my brain lied to me?? and kecleon can be found in the wild? i never once encountered one and i've played gen 3 over a dozen times
I was excited for this video as I love thinking about how Hoenn with a day/night cycle would have been! But then it took 12 minutes for you to get into the actual content of the video. I didn’t even watch the full 12, only fast forwarded through stopping at the section changes, but really, a 12 minute intro/setup is way too much for a video like this.
Well I appreciate your feedback. I agree, the housekeeping matters and intro are pretty long. Sometimes I do talk a bit too much for what the situation requires, so I'll work on keeping the intros shorter and to the point. Thank you again for letting me know. 😊
What I would've done is include all 386 Pokémon (excluding the Legendaries/Mythicals), I'd have: Hoenn Pokémon exclusive to the morning, Kanto Pokémon exclusive to the day & Johto Pokémon exclusive to the night.
@@saffroncitytv Thanks, I came up with that while brainstorming how I think TheSmithPlays & his team could do the encounters in Pokémon Emerald Legacy. They could as well take some inspiration from your Hoenn repair video. They could take your ideas & my ideas for encounters & implement them into a playable version of Gen 3 Pokémon.
WE ARE ALL FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION! 🤣 lol jk, I'm sure I just thought that because of its placement in the Pokedex, but for real, I swore up and down that Meditite was available in Granite Cave.
I think, that player should have 50/50 chance to get Cascoon or Silcoon during any time, but during night & day, their evolutions would change: Wurmple > Cascoon > Dustox & {daytime evo} > Silcoon > Butterfly & {nighttime evo} Also, I think, rhat Skitty should have altevo, having Delcatty for moon stone as now & another evo for sun stone. Also, I think that Hoenn should have seasons, but as dry season & wet season, instead of 4 seasons circle. Hoenn should have regional Grimer & Muk, as pure water types. Slugma looks similarly to Grimer for me, & I think that there should be a prevo for Grimer & Slugma, that could evolve to one of them depending on daytime or nighttime.
The first time I played Sapphire after having played Gold/Crystal, I was extremely disappointed. It brought so much life to the 2nd generation that the third felt not as alive without it. Honestly I think they didn't want to go through the effort of assigning different pokemon in different areas to different times, it felt lazy.
Uhhh, Meditite is not supposed to be in Granite Cave according to literally every website, but I booted up my copy of Omega Ruby and it is indeed there. Screw SM64 copies being personalized someone needs to look into it for the Hoenn games.
I really only thought that it was in there back in the Gen 3 days, but I can't remember if I encountered it in ORAS. Either way, I feel like Meditite SHOULD be in Granite Cave 🤣
Coupled with timed events at certain times of the day that's why it felt like a living breathing world plus after crystal seeing animations for them when they came out the balls agin r&s felt like a downgrade let alone no second area like gen 2 had either.
Jesus christ, 7 fucking minutes of intro, and then a second intro to explain how the video works! I already watch her videos much sped up because she speaks veeeery slowly, but HALF the video is intro!!!!
Quick correction!: I think it would be better if Zangoose and Seviper swapped times of day; with Seviper being more available during the daytime, and Zangoose being more active at night. “Feels like they’re taking a stepback” sounds like the tagline of TPC at this point sadly.

"TEAM MAGMA WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"

I actually have a bit of a Mandela when it comes to Meditate being in granite cave as well. Holy crap! That sounds like a great novel! I've been listening to a lot of audiobooks lately, maybe I'll check that out! 😊
The book is titled Nightfall and it was written by Issac Asimov. That will make it easier to find :)
Well thank ya kindly for the recommendation! 😊

Wow for the bright side, only Gen 3 Hoenn suffers from the lack of night, I can't even imagine how disturbing would be to live in any version of a Kanto-only region
Currently watching but I ALSO experienced the Meditite Mandela effect while playing Emerald recently
Thanks Sabrina as always :> For hearwarming mention too ^.^ And the introduction about the sun is 🌟
Thank you for always being so supportive! Loved your ideas, btw! 😎
Great video! I love your pokemon fixing series, hoenn is one of my favourite regions and I agree with all your fixes!
I think a crepuscular pokemon would be cool. Deer and foxes are so in real life, so maybe stantler and vulpix could be encountered in the morning and evenings.
Now, I want a regional variant of slugma as a brownie and fire/fairy type.
Yasssss, the video I didnt know I needed until now. Thank you
I got your back like chiroprac 😎
Move Spinda and Skarmory out of Route 113. Move Spinda into Route 115 and Petalburg Woods because of Norman. Move Skarmory into Route 121 and Mt. Pyre. Move Koffing into Route 113.
I wouldn't make Spoink an exclusive nighttime encounter, it has to still hop around during the day so it doesn't die, but I agree, it should have a higher rate at night.
The intro makes me want to see you write a fan fiction about how actually miserable folks in regions with no day cycle must actually be.
But anywho, great ideas. Especially like Skitty, Absol, Tropius (i agree it always looked like a way more important mon than it actually is to me since i was a kid) ideas most
I'm glad you liked the intro! 😊 And I'm glad you liked the changes I've made. I really wish GF would just utilize the day/night cycle more often.
Let's go, public release of this
Tentatively, I think considering the technology at the time I am somewhat happier that the day/night system wasn't there in the original game.
Yeah, that's a fair point. Those internal batteries were always such a pain in the butt.
Swap Zangoose and Seviper.
Snakes are cold blooded and need sunlight to be active,
Cats and Weasels are both nocturnal predators.
Mongooses aren't weasels.
This actually blew my mind, they're an example of convergent evolution
@@saffroncitytv Indeed and hey, if they done that, at least there would be more Hoenn electric types besides Plusle, Minun, and the Manectric line.
What a great video!
I'm 8 minutes into the video and when Pikachu popped up eating ketchup I started clapping for some unknown reason 😅
Haha 🤣
It never bothered me but it was something kind of interesting to think about. Now that I think about it did any of the Game Boy advance games have a day and night cycle?
They surely did not, unfortunately.
@@saffroncitytv Such an oddity
OH MY GOSH ANOTHER VIDEO HUZZAH!!
The intro killed me! Makes me yearn for a cooler world... perhaps one filled with more water....... hm
Well you're not gonna find that in Hoenn. Hate to break it to you, but there's almost no water in the entire region. 7.8 - too much land.
I love it. All of it.
With Magcargo being such a bad Pokemon anyway and having an oddly high evolution level from Slugma, I'd put it on 113 if you remove Slugma from there, but at a low encounter rate.
This was probably the first time I realised Gamefreak were cutting corners, sadly I didn't realise it would get much worse in the future 😢
I thaught meditite was available in granite cave as well strange with how much ive played the game
meditite isn't available in granite cave?? i never encountered it in emerald, but i was so convinced it was a granite cave encounter in either ruby or sapphire (the version exclusive counterpart to makuhita) has my brain lied to me??
and kecleon can be found in the wild? i never once encountered one and i've played gen 3 over a dozen times
Wait… do you mean Meditite ISNT in Granite Cave?
I haven’t played Hoenn for a few years but I could SWEAR they were in there.
THAT'S WHAT I SAID!
Aren't mongoose like completely nocturnal and vipers more active in the day?
That's a good point. 🤔 Idk why I didn't look that one up. Good thinking.
I was also was a dumbass kid I spent hours looking for onion boy in that. Swear one flee from me once. 😆
Love that screaming cardi cut in lol
Omg I though Meditite was also found in Granite cave 😆 Mandela Super Effect(ive)
What I would've done is include all 386 Pokémon (excluding the Legendaries/Mythicals), I'd have: Hoenn Pokémon exclusive to the morning, Kanto Pokémon exclusive to the day & Johto Pokémon exclusive to the night.
That is a really interesting perspective! 😊
Yoooo whaaatt? I also thought medititle was in the cave too. Turns out it's just makuhita??
Indeed. Ok, I'm glad I'm not alone on this one 🤣
I recall meditite also being found in granite cave as well!! Wtf
WE ARE ALL FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION! 🤣 lol jk, I'm sure I just thought that because of its placement in the Pokedex, but for real, I swore up and down that Meditite was available in Granite Cave.
Btw slugma is not exclusive to emerald, you can get him in the fiery path in both ruby and sapphire
uuuuh i'm gonna eat this up
I think, that player should have 50/50 chance to get Cascoon or Silcoon during any time, but during night & day, their evolutions would change:
Wurmple
> Cascoon
> Dustox & {daytime evo}
> Silcoon
> Butterfly & {nighttime evo}
Also, I think, rhat Skitty should have altevo, having Delcatty for moon stone as now & another evo for sun stone.
I know this has no relevance to the video, but where did you pick up "Bullhonkey" from?
I think it's just a goofy regional thing that I picked up from my grandparents 🤣
The first time I played Sapphire after having played Gold/Crystal, I was extremely disappointed. It brought so much life to the 2nd generation that the third felt not as alive without it. Honestly I think they didn't want to go through the effort of assigning different pokemon in different areas to different times, it felt lazy.
I feel the same way. It was really disappointing to not have a day/night cycle anymore 😖
12 minutes in and the video hasn't started yet
Coupled with timed events at certain times of the day that's why it felt like a living breathing world plus after crystal seeing animations for them when they came out the balls agin r&s felt like a downgrade let alone no second area like gen 2 had either.
Jesus christ, 7 fucking minutes of intro, and then a second intro to explain how the video works! I already watch her videos much sped up because she speaks veeeery slowly, but HALF the video is intro!!!!
7 full minutes into the video: "First thing's first..." 😓
Am I dumb or did you get married between videos
Still no one watched this video to the end, 20 min mark
