Hello this is a message from someone who has has braces for a little while now (6 months) and I want you all who are getting them they really aren’t bad after a while. I’ll be honest the first few weeks I couldn’t even bite down let alone chew after getting them on but after a few weeks I slowly began eating normally again. Another thing is people describe braces as extremely painful throughout the whole process, but so far in my experience 99% of the time my mouth isn’t hurting and it only does hurt after I get them tightened. For eating, in this video it was explained that you first of all need to cut all of your food, for example a sandwich, for me personally I have never even thought of cutting a sandwich and is able to eat one just fine with my braces. I just wanted anyone reading this who’s going to get braces soon or just got there’s on it gets better as you go and this video is over exaggerating how eating food is going to be like (I recommend to just listen to your orthodontist recommendations)

HELPFUL TIP: when eating your first meal after braces, do not chew like you normally do. chew softly. Like BARELY chew! Your teeth are really tender and are under a lot of pressure and your not used to it, and your teeth haven't made their first movements yet, so you need to start gentle. If you chew "hard" like you do without braces, your teeth on your upper teeth will smack in to your lower teeth and when your new to braces this hurts like f$@k. I highly recommend your first meal after braces be something not chewable, like yo gurt, apple sauce, that type of stuff. My first meal was mac and cheese and I tried to chew it and it hurt like f@$k because I wasn't given any advice Edit: braces are scheduled off next visit!
Food is so difficult with braces it makes me not want to eat cause after every meal I have to floss it takes me 8 minutes to finish a chicken nugget anyone else with braces have food struggles
Yes instead of taking me 8 min to finish a nugget I had to like rip it down to little pieces and almost scream cuz of the pain so like one tiny piece of nugget took like 10 minutes

I had my braces yesterday and all I do is to swallow. I can't chew! I need to cut everything into like 1/4's of everything! Plus the steam I get and the excess wires that hurts like hell! I just grind the food with my tounge by pushing it upwards!
@@sree6791 haha don't worry, its 8 weeks until my braces will be finished. soon for you, it'll feel like your teeth are normal (no pain). it only hurts after they tighten ur braces, but everytime they do it, it hurts for less time. for example after the first time u get them tightened, it'll hurt for like 2 days then the next time, maybe a day next time, maybe a day again after that its like a few hours at most

Braces don't hurt most of the time! You'll only experience the pain at the starting of getting your braces and whenever you go for a monthly dentist appointment! So please don't worry! You'll be fine and remember that everything is worth!
I got them today and of course my first meal was McDonald's chicken nuggets haha I legit could not figure out how to eat it lol I ended up eating it like a rabbit and it took me like an hour😂
I went for nuggets too thinking they'd be easy to eat, but it took me half an hour to eat them and the chips were cold by the time I got to them so threw them out. normally I would devour that meal in 5-10minutes

My dad bought Wendy’s, and told me it should be easy to chew. It took me 10 minutes to eat 3 chicken nuggets, the worst part is feeling like you always get something stuck in your brackets.

Comment section is full of people with first day of braces. Guys, calm down. We all experience it the first day. I sure did too. But it gets better over time. Don't worry about it. I just ate 2 hamburgers and it wasn't that hard. It's not gonna always be like this.
Yeah, I think I was an early bird when getting used to it. Not feeling much pain (since I guess my body was fine with it since I had something I slept with before) . Honestly, it's just a minor annoyance.
stranger. fiona I have 2 tips you can cut your food up to very small pieces (but ain't nobody got time for that) what I did I swallowed my food too😓 it's hard for the first few days but your teeth will get use to your braces soon enough and you will be able to eat properly 😉

I had leftover goulash in the fridge and I turned it into a REALLY tasty soup by just pureeing it in the food processor and adding another bouillon cube. It was so good my husband finished it up (which kinda got on my nerves, because HE has choices! 🤣🤣)

I got braces yesterday and had a soft cookie right after and the bracket on the molar (I think it's a molar) came out 😭 biting my food has been hard, I'm afraid another one is going to come off. I've had braces for 4 weeks, and anyone who has them, you'll get used to them. They aren't that bad. They might hurt at first but then the pain goes away. You might get headaches like i do and some ibuprofen will help with the pain.
God help me, i just got my lower braces on but i cant eat even soft foods because the back teeth of my upper jaw keeps biting ON my BRACKET so it will fall of.

Only the first week when u first got your braces and the first week of whenever you retighten your braces are gonna hurt badly to the point where you can't bite things properly. After ur done with that first week, you can eat fairly normal again!! I really only avoid chewing gums, biting a whole apple, or eating things that are superrr hard to bite. I can eat burgers normally, ribs, crunchy fried food, peanuts, and other things normally too, so dont be scared :)

I survived 2 teeth extractions but i don't think i can bear this sheer pain after i got my elastics put on with my braces. Its like every inch of my head felt the pain. I couldn't eat speak or even drink properly for a week. After a week, you think pain would go away but you just have to accept your fate and get used to it.

I’ve had my braces for 2 months and have gotten so much better eating with them. At first I could barely eat a noodle, but now I can eat steak as long as I cut it up. Still can’t really bite into anything, so I have to carry a set of utensils with me everywhere 😂
This is my first day of what is expected to be a 1.5 year journey... Eating is really harder than I thought especially because I have some degree of deep bite.. But still I'm really excited to see how it goes... I'm 27 I just had them put on today, my dentist told me I should've come years ago to correct my deep bite... ×_×
First day here, and I'm pretty sure I just lost a bracket from hamburger meat🤦♂️ Eating isn't so painful so far, but the dentist and assistants were telling me to prepare for soreness and sharing their stories lol
@@aqueousconch1103 it has been two weeks since I had them.. The first 3 days were the worst. The inside of my lips was hurting until I used "braces wax" (not sure if this is what it is called) to cover the pointy areas of the braces to prevent them from rubbing against my lips... it really helped for a day or two, but after that I didn't need them at all because I think my lips adapted to the braces Food was a challenge and still kinda.. You can't bite at all, you have to cut your food into little pieces and push them directly towards your molar teety to chew them ( for me I can only chew with my left molars only, the right ones hurt) God I wrote too much didn't I 😅

I had braces for 5 years and got them off a few months ago. So liberating. I don’t have to pick my molar wire with my tongue to get rid of excess food anymore!
@@kookicutie420 yeah they suck for the first month or so but you get used to them, like a new pair of shoes ya know? The worst part of having them was accidentally slicing the inside of my mouth open because multiple times the wires were exposed and were really sharp. You’ll get through it! 👍

Just got them yesterday + stoppers to fix my overbite and I have to swallow everything and just press my food against the roof of my mouth with my tongue to crush it
I'm a few days in and still only managing to eat hopes and prayers! One thing I will say is to drink hot drinks with a straw, that helps, unless it's scalding hot and you burn out your throat hole. Then you got bigger problems than pain from braces!

Braces don't hurt most of the time! You'll only experience the pain at the starting of getting your braces and whenever you go for a monthly dentist appointment! So please don't worry! You'll be fine and remember that everything is worth!
I got them today and of course my first meal was McDonald's chicken nuggets haha I legit could not figure out how to eat it lol I ended up eating it like a rabbit and it took me like an hour😂

I went for nuggets too thinking they'd be easy to eat, but it took me half an hour to eat them and the chips were cold by the time I got to them so threw them out. normally I would devour that meal in 5-10minutes
best way is to rip them up into tiny little pieces to eat them

Same. I am still at the beggining, tho but i feel really bad when one of my friends or a family member eats something that i am not allowed to. I have lost some pounds since then, and because i have a fast metabolism, i am struggling to gain a few kg. It's soo frustrating lol

My dad bought Wendy’s, and told me it should be easy to chew. It took me 10 minutes to eat 3 chicken nuggets, the worst part is feeling like you always get something stuck in your brackets.
Every time I eat something my brackets always feel like they’re going to fall off (which they don’t) and it’s so stressful

Comment section is full of people with first day of braces. Guys, calm down. We all experience it the first day. I sure did too. But it gets better over time. Don't worry about it. I just ate 2 hamburgers and it wasn't that hard. It's not gonna always be like this.
Yeah, I think I was an early bird when getting used to it. Not feeling much pain (since I guess my body was fine with it since I had something I slept with before) . Honestly, it's just a minor annoyance.

stranger. fiona I have 2 tips you can cut your food up to very small pieces (but ain't nobody got time for that) what I did I swallowed my food too😓 it's hard for the first few days but your teeth will get use to your braces soon enough and you will be able to eat properly 😉

I’m on day three and was starting to worry I’d have to survive off soft foods for two years. Tips on what you can eat for the first few days: oatmeal, peanut butter, apple sauce, soups, mashed potatoes, pudding, yogurt
peanut butter isn't good because it is sticky and can get stuck in between your brackets.
I had leftover goulash in the fridge and I turned it into a REALLY tasty soup by just pureeing it in the food processor and adding another bouillon cube. It was so good my husband finished it up (which kinda got on my nerves, because HE has choices! 🤣🤣)

I got braces yesterday and had a soft cookie right after and the bracket on the molar (I think it's a molar) came out 😭 biting my food has been hard, I'm afraid another one is going to come off. I basically just swallow most of it. What did I get myself into lol but I know it'll be worth it at the end. I'm finally going to smile without covering my mouth.

I've had braces for 4 weeks, and anyone who has them, you'll get used to them. They aren't that bad. They might hurt at first but then the pain goes away. You might get headaches like i do and some ibuprofen will help with the pain.

Only the first week when u first got your braces and the first week of whenever you retighten your braces are gonna hurt badly to the point where you can't bite things properly. After ur done with that first week, you can eat fairly normal again!! I really only avoid chewing gums, biting a whole apple, or eating things that are superrr hard to bite. I can eat burgers normally, ribs, crunchy fried food, peanuts, and other things normally too, so dont be scared :)

I survived 2 teeth extractions but i don't think i can bear this sheer pain after i got my elastics put on with my braces. Its like every inch of my head felt the pain. I couldn't eat speak or even drink properly for a week. After a week, you think pain would go away but you just have to accept your fate and get used to it.

I’ve had my braces for 2 months and have gotten so much better eating with them. At first I could barely eat a noodle, but now I can eat steak as long as I cut it up. Still can’t really bite into anything, so I have to carry a set of utensils with me everywhere 😂

This is my first day of what is expected to be a 1.5 year journey... Eating is really harder than I thought especially because I have some degree of deep bite..
But still I'm really excited to see how it goes... I'm 27 I just had them put on today, my dentist told me I should've come years ago to correct my deep bite... ×_×

The first 3 days were the worst. The inside of my lips was hurting until I used "braces wax" (not sure if this is what it is called) to cover the pointy areas of the braces to prevent them from rubbing against my lips... it really helped for a day or two, but after that I didn't need them at all because I think my lips adapted to the braces
Food was a challenge and still kinda..
You can't bite at all, you have to cut your food into little pieces and push them directly towards your molar teety to chew them ( for me I can only chew with my left molars only, the right ones hurt)

Yeah that's y I ate hamburger without chewing them...just swallowed it and I didn't enjoy eating at all
And ofc I gave up and just ate the half eventhough it wasn't painful it was just so uncomfortable and my tongue did hurt bcz of the little piece inside my mouth which was the most annoying part

The first two to three days are the hardest...
Just try to cut food into small pieces and chew with your molar teeth
And try not to bite with your front teeth
And don't worry, it will get easier with time
I had braces for 5 years and got them off a few months ago. So liberating. I don’t have to pick my molar wire with my tongue to get rid of excess food anymore!

I'm a few days in and still only managing to eat hopes and prayers! One thing I will say is to drink hot drinks with a straw, that helps, unless it's scalding hot and you burn out your throat hole. Then you got bigger problems than pain from braces!

I got my spacers and brackets put in on my first appointment and then 2 weeks later I got my bottom wires put it... and it’s been 3 days since then and I’m still in pain.
