Thanks for your video. Based off this and another I made a pair of these lights with some changes to be used to set out and stand themselves up vertically using 1.5" pvc, with the cord coming in from the side of the bottom end, lead weights in the bottom, filled with insulating foam, all sealed up but just in case of any future leaks. I also covered the outside, esp over the LEDs and holes for wiring, with a clear plastic shrink wrap for a little extra protection from leaking or damage to the LED strip while also holding it in place even more than added adhesive. Mine are designed to set out and fish from a dock or shore rather hang down, with enough weight in the end that they will sink but stand up.

That should work good , do you have one 24v battery or 2 12v batteries. If you have 2 batteries you can just hook your light to one of em th that's what I do .
I don't see why not , that would work or you could change out the cigarette type and put a USB type cause a lot of the LED light come with USB plus nowadays

That's pretty kool brother 😎. I'm gonna have to try this one out too. I already made the slinky weights out of bb's i had laying around. Worked out pretty good.
Good job and instructions. Just wondering do you have a video on how you made 1st light? It looked like it had been wired with a 3 prong 110v or can you make a video like that for all us pier fishers that have access to electric while shrimping and fishing it would be great to see something with a fail-safe like a trip in case some water got into it.
Great Video. The LED strip light you used from amazon is rated as IP65 for its waterproof rating meaning basically its rain proof and not for submersion. The submersible standard is IP68 which has two coverings to make sure the LED are waterproof and are designed for submersion. How has your light lasted? Have you used it many times? Thanks for the straight forward video
Thank you brother . Im glad you like it , the feed back is really helpful too ,thank you for taking the time and leaving a comment . Cause sometimes im not sure if I talk to much lol
that is a great looking light ! just wondering about something though...if you were to fill up the pvc with silicone , and let it set , would it be possible to push the silicone out of the pvc.......then wrap the silicone with the lights , and put that inside the clear pipe...........seems that would be a great light for working under a vehicle , in the event you were to break down somewhere....keep inventing man , you have some great ideas........
I do the same thing lol it might work man , I just left out the clear tube because the last one I bought 3 years ago was like 10 or 12 dollars and it really does work just as good without it as long as you stop water from getting to the wires and causing corrosion issues the light has a silicone type coating on it when you buy it
It's not necessary nope as long as you buy water proof LED strips . I have a newer video that I used clear heat shrink tubing . I really like that light the best
Sweet Hack! Did this with my sons as a project they enjoyed it…used 24 volt and trolling motor connection “freakin awesome!!” One question, do the lights get hot when not submerged? Ours got kinda warm on the test run.
Great light man i made some 2 years ago but with no end caps and they work well also there very light weight and like a timex take a licken and keep on a ticken
I don't reckon you need end caps now that I think about it lol . That's what I need to do , ( how cheap can wer make a light lol ) that's not a bad idea lol . I appreciate you commenting brother I really do .
Yes I need that. Want one like that for in the water but also need white light for hanging off the bridge for some night. I mean I love my big light that supost to be on top of truck suv or car lol but I use 8 or 9hrs and it about kills my battery. O and it's a marine battery it's for my boat I take when I fish and charge when I get home which I need to charge one for tomoorw. But I'll weight till dark it's cooler then. It great video I haven't followed you long but I wish it's been years you got some amazing diy love watching cause I can't do many things I used to anymore so it's cool to watch new things. Have a great week sir. God bless
Thank you Danny I appreciate your comments brother . And your right the underwater LED fishing light would make a great light for seeing with too . It's basically the same thing as the NAV light I made with a switch . And they don't use a lot of power I run both of these on kayak batteries the small ones
@@FishinNStuff ok I'm gonna look one up there so bright be great to make 2 on poles to put around my trailer I sit and lay on while fishing. Or out side my truck while fishing glad I seen this. Thanks bro. God bless
You can use clear fluorescent light bulb protectors instead of polypropylene tubing. the larger diameter bulb protectors will fit 1-1/4" PVC fittings. You can get a long clear light protector at lowes for $3.00 (cut to length).
Ive thought about that before, but it's still an extra step and it works great with our it I like learning it off , I use to just run the light steps down the bottom of my kayak lol
HARGAR Plays just be careful not to drop them below 15ft. The water pressure below 15ft will cause them to start cracking longways from end to end. I’ve started using 1-1/4” clear vinyl tubing. Not the braided type, just clear. Home Depot sells precut 3ft for $7.00. The 1-1/2” pvc sch40 caps fit perfectly over the outside of tube. Seal with heavy duty grade pvc cement and seal outer rim with Marine plastic epoxy.
Awesome video Sir, thanks for putting this out there for us. Question, my lights came in, but one end has some type of plug, maybe for a power supply or something. Did yours? If so, did you just cut that off and get to the two wires? Thank you again
guttercops one of the lights I ordered did , I've use these strip lights on several different DIYs I've made , and yep I cut the plug off and stripped the wires and inside was a red and black wire and you can figure it out from there . I appreciate you watching my video even more than you appreciate me making it lol thank you brother and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer em pr find you an answer
@@FishinNStuff Thank you Brother!! man that answer came in at light speed! Awesome. I def hit the subscribe button. What part of America are you in? FL here.
We used to hang a lantern over the side just above the water to attract the baitfish . is there any difference in the color of light if so why meaning does a blue light attract a fish better than White lake versus red light and so on. Thanks
I use red out of the water if you dont want to kill your night vision, ppl use blue lights in the ocean they say it penetrates the water better , in fresh water I think green works better for plankton I'm not sure why but I have white lights that work very well too . But most fresh water lakes have algae in them so the white lights put off a green hue any way , I made my DIY light green because that seems to be the most popular color for fresh water but I've used white more myself . I dont think you can go wrong with white or green , but striped bass fishermen have told me that white distresses the fish more than blue or green so it makes sense to use green I guess . I'm not a scientist though haha , I appreciate you watching brother . If you ever have anything to add to a subject feel welcome to leave a comment, thank you for watching buddy
Click on my little round logo beside this comment and itll take you too my channel, I've got a lot of DIYs . You might find something else you like , I appreciate you taking the time to comment brother
Great job, thanx for sharing, one question please: there is no need to use a transformer ? you attached the clip directly to the battery ? thanx in advance
Nice job and thanks for sharing. I ordered the 16 foot led lights too, but I wanted to make a longer light. I noticed that your first light was longer than the one you made on this video. The lights I ordered came with two exposed wires ready to be attached to speaker wires. However, the other end of the wire black connector attached. Do you know if I should cut the black connector to expose wires, so that I can connect a second set of 16 foot led lights?
Im not sure the lights I used had wires on both ends , the way I made the first light liner was by using a smaller piece of pvc the first one was 3/4 " and the one on this video was 1 1/4 " pvc . Smaller pvc makes it longer they both have 16' on them, if you don't figure it out you could make 2 light and cover more area . They should pull the same amount of power from the battery where they are all on one light or two different ones
NOPE.....WONT WORK I can say from experience that if you connect 2 16' sections of lights together in that way, the 2nd strand of lights will be dimmer than the 1st. You must connect both strands of lights directly to the power source and start them in the middle and wrap the pipe from the middle outward. This way, both strands will have the same brightness. Good Luck!
Thanks for your input brother , I appreciate man I've never tried hooking 2 16' led lights together I would make 2 lights and spread out the light that way
Hello and thank you for all the great diy’s . Love em. I went back and watched all of them. I want to make these lights but it doesn’t show how do you address the other end of the lights mine has a wire with a clip to a converter I think wanted to know how to take care of this please help I will try and send picture
I bought one with a wire like that I just cut the end off then stripped em and touched the battery post to figure out the positive and negative wires , if you get a tool of lights that have a wire on both ends you can just cut off the end your not using , and a lot of those lights have place on them with a line where you can cut em and it won't hurt anything if you cut em on that line
@@blumax413 I think white lights work just as good as green, ive used both and don't see a difference . White may have the edge just a bit because they are brighter
Great video. What brand of light do you use? I've made several lights for shrimping, but the cheap "water proof" LEDs I've gotten from Amazon don't stay water proof very long unless I cover them in clear heat shrink.
Clear heat shrink is a good idea , the tubes for florescent lights they sell at Homedepot wood work too . I bought better lights off Amazon, I've had bad luck too buying the cheapest lights I could find I look st the reviews on stuff more now . I can't remember the exact brand Its been a year since i made that video , I'm sorry
How long does the 1.25 pvc pipe need to be to make lgt. u can buy a 2 ft joint @ Home Depot for $ 2..00; will the 16.4 strip fit on 2 ft, if not u will have to buy a 10 ft. joint; is speaker wire 18 ga or 16 ga wire. Thanks Great Videos!!!!
I would buy the thicker 16 ga wire just so it'll be stronger but that's me , Leds don't pull much amperage . Im pretty sure 2 foot of 1.25 will work I gave that light to a friend I'm thinking it was 16 inchs maybe couldn't have been over 18 or 20 but you can go 1.50 to make sure there's no rules when you leave it the polypropylene but I think 2 foot is enough I'll be making some more lights soon , before storing any ways so check back by or click the bell . I'l try and be more thorough
Great video on DIY fishing light; after using lgt for some time, is it still waterproof using supernight led lgts without polycarbonate tube as I would like to build one like your video and save on costs if clear tube is not needed. Thanks for your videos
I think it's going to last because I ran the same lights down the length of my kayak one year and it worked great and they aren't protected plus my old light still works fine and I broke the polypropylene not long after making it , I made it 3 years ago
Also I'm going to make a new kayak light that can be removed, it's idea ive have for some time now. I'l be posting that before long a little closer to spring time
i have a challenge for you i have been trying to find a way to make a sinker that looks and functions like a three prop buzz blade naturally its not going to run the surface but i am in hopes it rises off the bottom much faster.. what do you think ?
Yes sir , you can tell if the wires strong enough. If it's not you could run a piece of paracord with the wire I guess . I appreciate you watching brother
Well I got mine done! And WOW! I can't wait to put this bad boy in the water. I had to use 1.5" because Home Depot didn't have an end cap for the 1.25", but this bad boy is tough. I used 25' , 18 gauge wire from Home Depot. IT IS AWESOME!
Yes Sir I've never ran a test , but I use those 12v 7 or 8 mah batteries for that light and its never went dead , it may even run one if those NAV lights I make and a fishing light together but I would swear too that without doing a test
I'm going to try to rig up front and rear lights on both kayaks I own, I think I'll use this for the rear, like you said getting ran over by a boat isn't a good idea!!
I bought these lights from your link in the video. What do I do about the two wires on the other end of the strip? I didn’t see you do anything with the other two wires. Thanks
Its just on there so you can cut the light in half and make 2 if you want . So you obviously don't need em so just cut em off itll still work as a one piece light
Its 12v so you can run it of your trolling motor battery, and its 16' may have been a 5050 but im not positive that video is older . But I made a few of em and they all worked good
How do you stop it from overheating? What battery did you hook it up to cause a 20v drill battery is to much...lol. it good in the water but I would like to use it camping too
Have you built a battery operated one? They make 1000 lumen flashlights that run for hours on 21600 batteries. I do a lot of bank fishing and one would come in handy
I normally drop it 2 feet or so , but ppl probably do it differently , I will tell you this I catch more fish in the dark around the light than I do in the light . The outsides
Chris Hodskins normally I put it about 2 - 3 feet under the water , I made another video for ppl that had questions about light fishing you should watch it buddy I appreciate you watching and I'll help you any way I can , here's the link to the other video where I actually use the same light I made on this one ua-cam.com/video/sP-ZbVfhZmU/v-deo.html
Man you know how to give a guy da big head lolol I'm jk. I appreciate brother I like helping ppl and I really enjoy utube , thank you so much for watching Sir
I used a kayak battery , this was the plug I used Allstar Performance ALL76232 Universal Two Wire Connector with 12" Loop www.amazon.com/dp/B003C01FD6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bEeyEbPJ0P206
No I didn't I just filmed it up then put the cap on I just did it to make sure the wires didn't corrode. But it may have been a little over kill I do that lol
@@FishinNStuff I tried to under kill on my first try and had water inside not a big deal. But then the factory connect leaked water. Now I am running my own wires to the LEDs. Hopefully no problems. I also tweaked your plan and put multi color led. I have alot of discussions in Wisconsin about red or green lights so I will have both. Thanks for the video. Also is your top cap cemented and pushed all the way on or just an inch or so? Sorry this got long.
was the 6 1/2 oz of sinkers enought to keep it from floating? I was thinking of using more weight. or do you still want the light to float at the top only?
Thank you brother , I appreciate the encouragement , that's the best way to do DIYs . I have a bunch of em but if there's anything you'd like to see let me know and I'll try it
Thank you Sir, I appreciate you commenting and letting me know you like it , it's inspiring and let's me know im on the right track . Thanks for watching brother
@@FishinNStuff think bout this. You could have a backpack light that you can use in the water or on the bank and that's when the damage switch will come and play so if you want a little light or a lot
I would think they could go 50 feet or more , but I've never tested that , I normally drop em down 2 too 3 feet that where I seen too have the best luck with em . Maybe that that's where the plankton is the most concentrated I'm not sure . I have dropped en down 15 foot or so , but didn't catch much there . I may have been in a bad spot , here's a link to a video you may have watched but that light is about 2 foot deep ua-cam.com/video/sP-ZbVfhZmU/v-deo.html
Fishin N Stuff, have you had any shorts or issues with this method yet? I did my first light this way and it ended up shorting out about 8 leds from the top. It stayed fully on for about an hour but then started flickering and all but those 8 went out. I just fished for about 2 hours more like that then it flashed orange and red and slowly dimmed into dark. when I pulled the strip off later it had started melting at one of the junction points on the back side of it where the sticky side is. I really don't know if it was just a bad connection there or the water caused it. I have more lights to try another one but haven't decided if I will use this way or the old way with the cover over it.
I'm not sure you could try one , i use a 12v kayak battery , as long as its getting 12v i would say it wouldn't matter , sometimes I hook it up to my trolling motor battery
It still works great all the videos I have where I'm green light fishing was made using that light , bait livewell, the how to use a green light video plus the one where I made it . And I gave it to a friend that's on the videos with me and he uses it now , still works good . The only trouble you can really have is , if your soldering is bad or if the lights no good . Let's face it they all come from China and I have had em stop working. So read the reviews on the light your thinking about buying , thank you for watching brother
@@FishinNStuff Cool man thanks for your response. Soldering skills are good but them China lights that's another story. Thanks to you and for what your doing to brother
I made two of these just like the video with 8 ounces of weight. They float vertical with a little of the top sticking out of the water. Is this the way they should be?
I made the first one I ever made that same way and your right it works great , now I just make em heavy so if I want to drop em down deeper , I just put em where I want em and wrap it around a boat cleat
The way yours are is great , but you might need a little more weight to sink it deeper . But the easy you have it is how I use mine 90% of the time so I think your probably good brother
@@FishinNStuff I think I just figured out why my are floating. I used 1 1/2 PVC not 1 1/4. I probably need more weight for the larger diameter. I can add an eye bolt to the bottom and add some since I already have it sealed up.
Just the ends , you can fill it all but you don't have too I just wanted it water proof on the wire end so the wires wasn't getting wet and corroding. The silicone on the other end just keeps the lead in place so it hangs correctly and don't rattle
Yes Sir alligator clips and I'm thinking it was 12 foot . I gave it to a friend I was using that light in the how to use a fishing light video too . Just need it long enough to reach the trolling motor battery, that what I use because I don't use the trolling motor at night any way . There's ppl who drop they're light to the bottom but crappie fishing I have better luck sinking it about 2 too 3 foot deep
Thanks man they really work good not just for crappie but they would well for bass too I appreciate you watching brother I get off work 2:30 my time give me a call one day and we'll talk

The submersible standard is IP68 which has two coverings to make sure the LED are waterproof and are designed for submersion. How has your light lasted? Have you used it many times? Thanks for the straight forward video
Good info I have to write this down. I made one and it lasted in saltwater for 3 or 4 years and then it died out.
But I don't remember if I use the one you mentioned or not it said marine grade
Brilliant design! And brilliant light! Thanks much.
Thank , im working on a new one now , this is an older video
Another great video explaining everything in detail. A big shoutout to you and your UA-cam channel👍
I do the same thing lol it might work man , I just left out the clear tube because the last one I bought 3 years ago was like 10 or 12 dollars and it really does work just as good without it as long as you stop water from getting to the wires and causing corrosion issues the light has a silicone type coating on it when you buy it
That could work
Im impressed ! Didn't use crimp connectors and black tape!
Those work but I don't want to make something that's getting sealed up like that then have a wire come loose you know
@@FishinNStuff that was actually the correct way to do it regardless lol. Catch a slab!
Great instructional video. I did not see you put a clear tube over your lights- not necessary if the LEDS are submersible?
It's not necessary nope as long as you buy water proof LED strips . I have a newer video that I used clear heat shrink tubing . I really like that light the best
Sweet Hack! Did this with my sons as a project they enjoyed it…used 24 volt and trolling motor connection “freakin awesome!!”
One question, do the lights get hot when not submerged? Ours got kinda warm on the test run.
They get warm but not that hot . On my drill battery hack . I ran it for 6 hours out of the water and it didn't hurt it none
Man! I just found you and you’re videos are great. Thanks
@@FishinNStuff just make sure to use shrink tubing on your connectors
Yes Sir I always do , love that stuff lol
Nice one mate good work thanks from North Africa
Thank you Mate

Thank u for the idea they are so much cheaper
I appreciate you watching my video even more than you appreciate me making it lol thank you brother and if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer em pr find you an answer
guttercops hey this video right here , on the part with the light in the water and the shad circling it, that's the light I made on this video

Yes! This is exactly what I need! Thank you sir, great video and very informative sir!
Thank you Sir I aim too please hehe , that's a way better light for fishing than that rechargeable one you can just hook it to your boat battery
Love ur videos . Can u build a catfish noodle w a light sticking out of the top????? Thanks u for the video hope u keep doing them
I can , you can also use glow sticks on em and hi can use jugs with glow sticks in em . But it makes it easier for other ppl to find and steal I find
What do you hook your lights up to. Boat battery or what. Could you use batteries like the ones that are used to run spin feeders for deer?
Yes Sir it will work great , that's all a kayak battery , ive used em . Sometimes I just hook it up to my trolling motor battery too
Great job, thanx for sharing, one question please: there is no need to use a transformer ? you attached the clip directly to the battery ? thanx in advance
Yes I attach mine directly to the battery , I should really use a fuse though I guess safty and all ,
@@FishinNStuff thank you so much, you're doing a great job man
Great video. How deep does this float in water? Is top even with surface?
It doesn't float
I was using 2 lights on this video ua-cam.com/video/_aE0yVa-iLA/v-deo.html
Good idea, thanks!
NOPE.....WONT WORK
I can say from experience that if you connect 2 16' sections of lights together in that way, the 2nd strand of lights will be dimmer than the 1st.
I sent you a picture of my wire with the end on it in Facebook on your Facebook page
I got white lites will they work? I just sent away for the green ones
@@blumax413 I think white lights work just as good as green, ive used both and don't see a difference . White may have the edge just a bit because they are brighter

Could use clear heat shrink for added protection. After time some of the cheap brands of lights the clear protection film will flake off
That's a great idea buddy
If your DIY videos were any better, I'd feel guilty not paying for them! Great stuff!
Haha thank you brother, that's an awesome comment right there lol
Great video. What brand of light do you use? I've made several lights for shrimping, but the cheap "water proof" LEDs I've gotten from Amazon don't stay water proof very long unless I cover them in clear heat shrink.
Clear heat shrink is a good idea , the tubes for florescent lights they sell at Homedepot wood work too . I bought better lights off Amazon, I've had bad luck too buying the cheapest lights I could find I look st the reviews on stuff more now . I can't remember the exact brand Its been a year since i made that video , I'm sorry
@@FishinNStuff I appreciate it. Keep up the good videos.
Awesome tutorial brother! That's a good looking light thats neatly done. 👍
Thank you Sir I appreciate that it should be neat I've made like 4of em lol , brother I appreciate you stopping by my friend
I'l be posting that before long a little closer to spring time

naturally its not going to run the surface but i am in hopes it rises off the bottom much faster..
what do you think ?
I've never thought of it . I guess it would have to be tested
have you ever thought about using vel-cro for attaching lights to the outside of your boat for night fishing
No Sir but that's an interesting idea
I did how ever put lights under my kayak one time , and that eas pretty cool but I took em off
You are the Best, thank, qualification A+.
Did you add a rope along with the speaker wire to raise and lower the light?

I'm going to try to rig up front and rear lights on both kayaks I own, I think I'll use this for the rear, like you said getting ran over by a boat isn't a good idea!!
It sure ain't lol

Hey thank you Sir for watching and commenting
When hooking to your drill battery do you put a fuse on the wire? Just want to make sure I don’t start a fire
Yes I would , and im. Sorry I didn't do that for the test . I was just seeing if it worked on the hack video . But yes I sure would do that
I bought these lights from your link in the video. What do I do about the two wires on the other end of the strip? I didn’t see you do anything with the other two wires. Thanks
Sorry. I just hooked it up to a battery and they came on so I’m guessing just cover the ends of the wire?
Its just on there so you can cut the light in half and make 2 if you want . So you obviously don't need em so just cut em off itll still work as a one piece light
How long did you have to cut the 2" pc pip to make it I bought the lights on your list .my son and I love your channel
I wrapped the lights first then when you get too the end of your light strip , cut the pipe and leave just enough pipe to glue the cap on
Great video.
What powers it?
Its 12v so you can run it of your trolling motor battery, and its 16' may have been a 5050 but im not positive that video is older . But I made a few of em and they all worked good
How do you stop it from overheating? What battery did you hook it up to cause a 20v drill battery is to much...lol. it good in the water but I would like to use it camping too
It shouldn't over heat its LEDs . If the water proof LEDs over heated it would melt the waterproof coating
Have you built a battery operated one? They make 1000 lumen flashlights that run for hours on 21600 batteries. I do a lot of bank fishing and one would come in handy
Not with a battery built into the light , but I use mine from docks a lot . All you need is a kayak battery

True, but 21600 batteries are 5lb lighter.
Is there such thing as too much light?
@@cacawcacaw6280 I would think so
So is this a direct connect to a 12v battery? No power supply?

I would think they could go 50 feet or more , but I've never tested that , I normally drop em down 2 too 3 feet that where I seen too have the best luck with em . Maybe that that's where the plankton is the most concentrated I'm not sure . I have dropped en down 15 foot or so , but didn't catch much there .
Where did you buy your lights? Have you tried to use a 110v to 12v transformer?
No I haven't, I order mine off Amazon . They were low 10 dollars . The link maybe in the description box
I just saw the totorial how's the light after one year also did you put anything over the lights
What kind of battery did you use? Can you use a lantern battery?
I'm not sure you could try one , i use a 12v kayak battery , as long as its getting 12v i would say it wouldn't matter , sometimes I hook it up to my trolling motor battery
Hey Fishin N Stuff. First off I love what your doing , keep it up. Just wanted to ask how the light holding up after almost a year?
It still works great all the videos I have where I'm green light fishing was made using that light , bait livewell, the how to use a green light video plus the one where I made it . And I gave it to a friend that's on the videos with me and he uses it now , still works good . The only trouble you can really have is , if your soldering is bad or if the lights no good .
@@FishinNStuff so i need more than 8 ounces of weight to make it sink?

@@FishinNStuff I think I just figured out why my are floating. I used 1 1/2 PVC not 1 1/4. I probably need more weight for the larger diameter. I can add an eye bolt to the bottom and add some since I already have it sealed up.
I'm curious does it work during the day time. I don't know if the enclose dock I plan to use it at is open at night.
It might if it's dark or at least has dark water around it . All it does is attract the plankton

Great video, did you fill the entire tube w/ silicone? Do you have to fill the tube w/ silicone?
Just the ends , you can fill it all but you don't have too I just wanted it water proof on the wire end so the wires wasn't getting wet and corroding. The silicone on the other end just keeps the lead in place so it hangs correctly and don't rattle
How long did you make your wire connection? did you connect alligator clips on the battery end?
Yes Sir alligator clips and I'm thinking it was 12 foot . I gave it to a friend I was using that light in the how to use a fishing light video too . Just need it long enough to reach the trolling motor battery, that what I use because I don't use the trolling motor at night any way .
