Hi Chris, this is for pc setup. It’s looks awesome, but what if I watch tv from my server and have no hdmi signal? I guess it’s not easy to make ambilight in my case?
So why does the baseboard LEDs have more LEDs per foot? Would there be an issue if I used those on the back of my TV? Also, is SignalRGB able to be controlled from my phone once it's setup on my HTPC? Thanks and thank you for this great video.
How could I intercept what’s on the screen from a nvidia shield or blue ray player? Or would something like the fancyled or govee sync box be a more convenient option if I only plan on doing the TV led strips?
You would need a video output from your TV, which isn't very common since most people don’t use their TV as a source for video output. As a result, there probably aren’t any solution for it. But who knows?
@JamaaLKellbass useless, cause the hue box doesn't have tv cable entrance. In my country we don't need cable boxes, we use the coaxial cable directly into the tv.. I think the only solution is the Govee sync lights... but thx
I'm looking for something to run like that too but also with my desktop gaming setup so far i found for what you're looking for govee tv backlight is probs your best choice and it's not crazy expensive like phillips hue
This is amazing! Does the final setup always need hooked up to a computer? And then does media always need to be streamed through the computer for the program to map the LEDs?
Thanks for this awesome video. I'm really close to doing this myself but I'm confused about how the controller receives the hdmi input. Are you using hdmi to connect the PC that is running SignalRGB and your projector?
Signal RGB is great! Been using it for sometime to control the RGB on my son's and I setups. Works great to sync the Leds strips controlled by WLED in his room to his gaming computer.
Looks good however I am wondering compared to philips Hue, you can set up where your lights are placed around your screen/monitor. This means that where there are dark parts on screen the lights dont illuminate. They all appear to be lit regardless of screen illumination. I wonder if this is possible on SignalRGB
Thanks so much for watching and great observation! So instead of using the HD setting, use the standard and then you can control the brightness. This will make the areas that are darker (but still technically have some light) be completely dark instead of trying to display some color for the very dimly lit area. Hope that makes sense! I might do a follow up at some point on more of these fine tuning options!
This is not going to be for that (although I think PS5 has some type of way you can virtually run your PS5 on your PC, in that case it would probably work. With this method you're connecting your pc to the tv or projector via one of the two methods described in the video and running your media off the pc. But now that SignalRGB has built the tool, I dont see why at some point they wouldn't be able to make this available via a smart tv app, ps5 app, androidtv, appletv, amazonfire, roku, etc. Its only a matter of time before someone figures it out!
Superb 👍. All we need now is a box that can take multiple hdmi 2.1 VRR supported inputs and 1 out to screen that we can read input from, so lights can be controlled for all connected devices.
A Hyperion ambulance setup can do multiple inputs and works with Netflix and streaming services Etc. It requires a few extra parts and a few extra steps but it looks awesome when you're done. I use mine on regular broadcast tv, streaming services, with my playstation, my computer, and my retropie emulator box.
I am still thinking how to force a pc to control backlight for smart tv native apps. Capture card would be fine for console and such but I would love to get some of that for movies.
@@300beatzHi I’m not able to find this Hyperion ambulance all it shows me is pictures of an ambulance. Can you point me in the right direction for this. Thank you…
hey awesome setup, is it also possible to adress just a corner of the image to x numbers of leds ? to have the left and right wall match a corner of the image ?
This is by far the best video I have seen on this platform!!!!. I still have a question, though: The TV and LED strip need to be on the same network, of course, but how does the LED strip controller know when the TV is turned on? Is there a way to link them, or does this have to be done manually? Thank you very much!

This looks so cool! I bought everything and just as I'm setting it up, I realize that Signal RGB software is HEAVY on my laptop which is no slouch but still gets hot and fans are working hard and noisy... And I havent even configured my LED's to it yet.
This is on my list to do when I move overseas. Going to be fun watching movies and throwing parties with these LEDS in this setup. Truly cool stuff! With this kind of customizability, I bet this would work really well for quick and dirty EDM show setups and last minute raves.
So are they all separate strip with each with its own Esp? And can u show connection somehow ? Ps i wish the led reactions were a bit smoother unless the scene was too fast
I did something similar using a Raspberry Pi, an Arduino, HyperHDR and a hdmi capture card. The beauty of mine is, it doesn't matter if I'm watching my Shield, My Switch, Gaming PC, the lights work with everything and not just the PC.
@pete.n. I can't watch native tv either (live channels from the antenna) to do that. You would need something like Govee envisual T2. I never watch live tv, so I didn't think about it while writing.
@harshitrajsud9hridn unfortunately, unless you want a camera that faces the screen, it sat on top of your tv, I don't believe you can. Plus, where's the fun in that lol
Hi, this looks great, I'm starting my own project and can you please tell me do your eyes hurt if you watch tv for a couple of hours? And you go to sleep having strip lights still in front of your eyes? Wouldn't it be better if difuzors were all hidden? And then only to have ambient light? Thanks.

Chris, you're a legend man! I honestly can't thank you enough! I've been meaning to build one of those fancy setups using one of the products sold solely for that kind of setup however I reverted back from doing so considering spend priorities and necessities and whatnot, however this gives me exactly what I'd like to have completely for free except with the limitation of devices to have the setup run on being a pc software rather than hardware that can be connected to other HDMI devices like a gaming console. I'm still very happy to have that setup for pc only and am quite surprised if I'm being honest to have such precise configuration and accurate results with just software! I thought it's possible but didn't expect it to be available that soon yet alone for free! Thanks so much, Chris. You really are one of my top go-to guys when it comes to ambient lighting and décor ❤ Keep up the great work! 👏👏

@@ChrisMaherDIYDoes it work with Netflix / Prime / DisntPlus? Because if so there is some black magic going on and if it is not working, it never will. Those streaming services use DRM like WideVine to prevent any software from grabbing the pixels of the Application and HDCP to prevent grabbing the pixels from the HDMI cable
ive been wanting to do something like this for awhile, just never got around to doing it. i was just wondering, would just doing the mapping you did work for anything else you put on the screen like a movie or would you have to map the whole thing
Very intrigued by the possibilities of this software. Currently using HyperHDR (a fork of Hyperion) for my Ambilight setup, but the lack of Dolby Vision (hardware) support is a bummer. How would you use Signal RGB along with a streaming box (specifically AppleTV)?
Thanks for watching! Unless there is some type of virtual apple tv that can be run on a pc, im not sure how i would get it to work with that. I currently use the Nvidia Shield that runs android tv. I'm looking into options on if I can run a virtual android tv on windows so I can just permanently use the pc for my media device. But now that SignalRGB has built the tool, I dont see why at some point they wouldn't be able to make this available via a smart tv app, androidtv, appletv, amazonfire, roku, etc. Its only a matter of time before someone does it!
@@ChrisMaherDIY Thanks for the response, Chris. I certainly see the appeal in Signal RGB and am very encouraged by its future, but as of right now it is not a competitor, let alone replacement, for HyperHDR/Hyperion. Bummer! Really hoped it could be. Requiring a Windows PC (no macOS or RPi), plus the fact that is cannot support streaming devices, cable boxes, consoles, etc, severely limits its use case. Crossing my fingers that it expands in the future, but the hype exceeded the reality on this one.
Looks amazing but might be a good idea to turn down the brightness of the LEDs to match the projector. As is, the LEDs are completely overpowering the screen rather than complementing it.
I made the same screen backlight for only $25, and the kit includes both the ribbon and the receiver for the computer. It's funny what he's offering you!
That's amazing! I found my project for this weekend! Are you attaching the mutaza channels to the ALR screen so it shines outward or to the wall so it shines directly at the watcher?
Great project. I’m still wondering how will that get sync with what shown on the tv? Is it just for PC? It would be great if it can function like the hue sync box…
Hello i saw this project and I want to do it but I just want to check something to make sure i understand. This only works if you connect the whole system to your computer? I cant for now use this set up to be something like the govee backlight set up?
If you're thinking of getting it working with content directly from the TV you'll need an external video capture source. Something like a webcam trained on the TV as input for the software. Would still need a PC tho. There are off the shelf solutions but no where near as customiseable
I had not heard of Signal supprisingly i love your projetcts Chris keep up the good work and your a great reference for WLED Thanks for the info as Always my Friend Have A great Day !
Amazing project and video, I was not looking forward to paying for a Philips hue ambilight system. I had no idea there was there was such robust hobbyist solutions like this. Gonna start planning my next PC desktop build!
great video as always chris, quick question would the same layout work on a dark wall? I'm considering painting my tv wall a dark color (iron ore coloring) an just wondering how the LED's would look against a dark colored wall.
This is amazing! I absolutely love this and can't wait for my wife to allow me to start a project. What's the music you used in the final results? I do hope they come with a solution that let's you use the bottom end of the floor to ceiling lights.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Ohh you can definitely use the entire length of the floor to Ceiling lights but I chose to turn them off as to focus just on the lights that would line up with the screen. Hope that makes sense!
Appreciate the video and def considering this set up. One question for you though, in your video you mention that the box supports ARC, does it though? Haven't seen that posted anywhere else and just wanted to confirm. If it didn't, would I just connect the tv to my Denon receiver through the ARC HDMI ports and then the Sync Box to the TV and my fire stick and PS5 into the Sync Box? Appreciate your time and content!
Very good video Chris, I want to do a similar setup but with less number of lights than you. However can you tell me what tech hardware do we need for it? like where did you installed Signal rgb. i know wled can be installed in esp32 and can be setup but what extra hardware we need to setup the sync with tv.
So so cool project!! Imho it is a bit too bright and too flashy... Is it possible to get it smoother? So it would be too stressful for me to watch movies, etc.

You would need a video output from your TV, which isn't very common since most people don’t use their TV as a source for video output. As a result, there probably aren’t any solution for it. But who knows?
you must use hue hdmi sync box then
@JamaaLKellbass useless, cause the hue box doesn't have tv cable entrance.
This is getting incredibly elaborate! I'm all for it!
This is amazing! Does the final setup always need hooked up to a computer? And then does media always need to be streamed through the computer for the program to map the LEDs?
That piano song during the final result portion of the video??? Beautiful! Thanks!
Awesome!! Excited to try it.
Where can i get the calibration picture/ Wallpaper?
Thx
Very cool. I'm tempted to try it.
Does this work well with the PS5, VRR, and 120Hz? From what I understand Lytmi doesn't.
Wow Chris, this is amazing! I think this is your most impressive project yet. Spectacular
Thanks so much!! Definitely one of my favorite ones!
Wow this is amazingly incredible! Goosebumps. I'm starting a list of things i need for this!
Amazing is not saying enough!!! Sooo good! Really well done!
Superb 👍. All we need now is a box that can take multiple hdmi 2.1 VRR supported inputs and 1 out to screen that we can read input from, so lights can be controlled for all connected devices.
I'm wondering how to accomplish this idea what you just explained 😂
Blackbird 8k 1x4 on Monoprice. Or any receiver made in the last 3ish years
A Hyperion ambulance setup can do multiple inputs and works with Netflix and streaming services Etc.
Do you have the option to blend the colours a bit more smoothly along the edges?
Amazing work! Great tutorial, tks for taking the time to do this
Thank you for sharing this awesome techniques and tools, I just want to know how to get smoother and lag free performance from wled?
Would you say this is better than the Lytmi Fantasy 3? I plan using the Fantasy 3 to watch tv but i would use the diffuser channel
This is by far the best video I have seen on this platform!!!!.
I still have a question, though: The TV and LED strip need to be on the same network, of course, but how does the LED strip controller know when the TV is turned on? Is there a way to link them, or does this have to be done manually? Thank you very much!
Is there a way all this can be done on a smart tv or a smart set-top box and won't require a PC. If there is pls make a video for it. Love your videos
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. This is not going to be an option if you're wanting to use your built in tv apps. (Govee Camera System is your only option in that case: amzn.to/3UL76ez ) With this method you're connecting your pc to the tv or projector via one of the two methods described in the video and running your media off the pc. But now that SignalRGB has built the tool, I dont see why at some point they wouldn't be able to make this available via a smart tv app, androidtv, appletv, amazonfire, roku, etc.
This looks so cool! I bought everything and just as I'm setting it up, I realize that Signal RGB software is HEAVY on my laptop which is no slouch but still gets hot and fans are working hard and noisy... And I havent even configured my LED's to it yet.
How did you link your TV into the system - to read what's actually on the screen?
Will it work for TV with fire stick? Or is it necessary to have a PC as the video source?
Great video!!! How dos the wled know the TV image. Do you use the remove hdmi for doing this? I probrably missed this part in the video.
Thank you for your efforts Chris. Is there a way to setup similar ambient lights for Smart TV using Wled?
This seems worth doing.
I have hyperion and it works. This looks better, way better. I think Hyperion has black bar detection where this does not.
Ps i wish the led reactions were a bit smoother unless the scene was too fast
thats awesome, after watching this video i will totally do somethink like that after seeing the easy setup. Love your content.
Thanks buddy! Its so much fun to set up and play around with! Thanks for the comment!
my dude. all of this... wow. subbed. thank you, this has inspired me beyond measure!
Same!
i can't wait to try this in my new home
man, youtube showed me this video after i purchased installed and set up my less than optimal govee tv backlight kit 😥 this looks so much better.
I did something similar using a Raspberry Pi, an Arduino, HyperHDR and a hdmi capture card.
The beauty of mine is, it doesn't matter if I'm watching my Shield, My Switch, Gaming PC, the lights work with everything and not just the PC.
Do you have more infos about your setup? If I can not use native TV functionallity with this, it is not for me. Your approach sounds promising
@pete.n. I can't watch native tv either (live channels from the antenna) to do that. You would need something like Govee envisual T2. I never watch live tv, so I didn't think about it while writing.
Just buy one premade
@harshitrajsud9hridn unfortunately, unless you want a camera that faces the screen, it sat on top of your tv, I don't believe you can. Plus, where's the fun in that lol
curious since I'm still a beginner: why use a raspberry pi AND an arduino? wouldn't just the rpi be enough in this case?
i love the aesthetics you create
Thanks so much for watching!! Appreciate the support!
I'm totally mind-blown right now, this is a game-changer. Thank you.
Hi, this looks great, I'm starting my own project and can you please tell me do your eyes hurt if you watch tv for a couple of hours? And you go to sleep having strip lights still in front of your eyes? Wouldn't it be better if difuzors were all hidden? And then only to have ambient light?
Thanks.
How many esp devices did you use to connect all the lights?
Really awesome! Is there any way to use this solution with different hdmi inputs like a console or a streaming stick?
Very cool for computer setups. Is there a way to do this on a tv withou a pc hooked up to it yet?
I did some research and I didn't find anything. It seems that a signal like HDMI is needed (even for HUE)
Man, this was so informative and motivating I accidentally unliked trying to like it twice! What a fantastic resource, and that’s how I see this - far more deserving of the title resource! More than mere content - fantastic stuff, thank you!
that's awesome! but how can we make this to tv wich is built in channels in it ?or ps5 thank you.
Hi Chris, how are you?
I hope you are all well.
This looks like the best to date by far for this application.
Take care 🙏
This is the most insane setup I've ever seen. Incredible man!
I actually had to exclaim out loud how that is A m a z i n g😮 ( I loved that I could tell from your voice that you felt the same excitement 😅 ) awesome channel one of my new favorite finds
Nice! Will give it a try. I use HyperHDR today and its sick!
It's an amazing video, thanks for creating this. I am just wondering if there is any way to run signal RGB on android devices?
Oh man I want to see how this integrates with Govee now! I wonder if there is a way to make my Govee more accurate and use more lights.
Amazing video Chris, I was wondering if you could share the video you were playing to test and show us the settings. The green and blue bars abd the silver/white bar rotating around. Can you please share the link to that?
I dont know if i missed this but does this work on PC only or i can do the same on my TV?
I’m pretty sure he’s using his pc being connected to a projector
Thanks for the video! Does this only work with content played from a connected PC?
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. This is not going to be an option if you're wanting to use your built in tv apps. (Govee Camera System is your only option in that case: amzn.to/3UL76ez ) With this method you're connecting your pc to the tv or projector via one of the two methods described in the video and running your media off the pc. @@ChrisMaherDIY Thanks for responding. I'm currently using the SK6812s with HyperHDR on my LG TV and was wondering if this would be better. It looks really cool, hopefully it can be used at some point like Hyperion/HyperHDR. 😀
One of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam and trust me, I watch a lot of UA-cam!
That's amazing! I found my project for this weekend! Are you attaching the mutaza channels to the ALR screen so it shines outward or to the wall so it shines directly at the watcher?
Thanks for watching! It's attached to the alr screen so the light shines parallel to the wall, not directly at the watcher.
@@ChrisMaherDIY Thanks! I guess because this setup is build around SignalRGB, anything you watch has to be streamed from the computer?
this changes everything! Thumbs up for working with govee!
This is epic!!! I'm curious about the total cost of this project please.
Chris, well done. Any alternatives to signal RGB if I didn't want to run through my PC?
If you're thinking of getting it working with content directly from the TV you'll need an external video capture source. Something like a webcam trained on the TV as input for the software. Would still need a PC tho. There are off the shelf solutions but no where near as customiseable
@@dylanevans5644 that's the answer I needed. Thanks
Thanks for watching buddy! Great question. It will still look good but colors for sure won't pop like they do against a white or neutral color wall.
Will it also work with regular projector ?
Appreciate the video and def considering this set up. One question for you though, in your video you mention that the box supports ARC, does it though? Haven't seen that posted anywhere else and just wanted to confirm. If it didn't, would I just connect the tv to my Denon receiver through the ARC HDMI ports and then the Sync Box to the TV and my fire stick and PS5 into the Sync Box? Appreciate your time and content!
Can i get this lighting on output out of pc that signal rgb,or any ouput like ps4 or android tv??
Didn't know this channel before. Instant sub. Very high quality and cool stuff! Thank you very much and have a good day!
Thanks so much buddy! Appreciate the support!
Very good video Chris, I want to do a similar setup but with less number of lights than you. However can you tell me what tech hardware do we need for it? like where did you installed Signal rgb. i know wled can be installed in esp32 and can be setup but what extra hardware we need to setup the sync with tv.
I am not sure if I missed it. How do you connect it to your tv/projector signal?
So so cool project!!
Imho it is a bit too bright and too flashy... Is it possible to get it smoother? So it would be too stressful for me to watch movies, etc.
Amazing! Thanks for the video. I'll have to build this.
