Starting off we have the dermaroller.
This is the most common one.
When you think of microneedling, a dermaroller is what’ll probably come to mind.
It consists of a handle attached to a rotating barrel.
On the surface of the barrel are a few hundred microneedles.
As you roll the dermaroller over your scalp, the needles on the rotating barrel penetrate the skin.
The penetration is deep enough to cause the skin and follicles to rejuvenate, but not to the point of causing permanent damage and scarring.
The advantage of the dermaroller is that it’s quick.
Because you just roll it across the skin, you can cover large areas of the scalp in a short time.
Certainly quicker than with the other two devices we’ll look at next.
But it has two main disadvantages.
Firstly, you can’t adjust the length of the needles.
The needles on the barrel are fixed, so if you want to experiment with different sizes, you’ll have to purchase multiple derma rollers.
The second disadvantage has to do with the direction of application.
Let me explain. Ideally, you want the needles to be inserted vertically into the skin. Straight down.
But the dermaroller doesn’t do this.
You basically have each needle inserting the skin at an angle, and doing a sweeping motion before it exits.
    Like a scoop.
So you might be causing a bit more damage to the skin than necessary.
There is only so long you can use the dermaroller before the needles get dull and need replacing.
Depending on how often you use it and how well you maintain it, you should be able to get a few months out of each unit.
    -DERMASTAMP
In the dermastamp the needles are vertically stamped into the skin, not rolled.
This makes the device more precise, and causes less damage.
You can find dermastamps with fixed or adjustable needle lengths.
In the adjustable versions, you rotate the handle of the device, and depending on how much you rotate it the needles stick out to various degrees.
So you can set the needles to be anything from, say, 0.1 to 3 millimeter or even more.
Derma stamps are somewhat less common than dermarollers.
But they’re still quite easy to find online.
Price wise they’ll be in the same range as the dermaroller.
    Between 10 to 15 dollars.
The main disadvantage of the dermastamp is that it might not be as practical to use over large areas.
Cause you can’t just roll it all over, like the dermaroller.
You have to stamp, lift, move and restamp again.
    Rinse and repeat.
And if you have a large scalp area to treat this will take up more time compared to a dermaroller.
As with the dermaroller, the needles get dull over time, and your unit will need replacing after a certain number of uses.
    -DERMAPEN
So guys us humans love taking very simple things and complicating them.
And it’s the same with microneedling.
You have a dermastamp, which is the most basic, handheld, user-powered device.
And then you make it into a complicated, battery operated device.
    And you get the dermapen.
This is small, battery operated device that takes a disposable microneedles tip in the form of a cartridge.
The cartridge then pulsates up and down at a certain frequency.
