You could get this done in Turkey for 1/10 of the price it costs here with outstanding results. My friend got FUT done for thousand bucks there pre covid. He literally had no hair in the front and the top. He was 40 years old looking 50. 8-9 months after the transplant, he had a head full of hair and he still has. He looks 35 and girls are all over him. So amazing to see how hair could dramatically change someone's looks in a positive way. Unfortunately good things don't stay a secret. After covid and the currency exchange devaluation there, the word got out and everyone rushed to Turkey skyrocketing the prices along with it. After adding the flight+hotel expenses it's not cheap anymore but the results are still great.
but would you let a turk do such sophisticated surgical tasks ? that's not worth any money, even if the risk is only 5% that you die or 30% that you look like a jerk
@@video2000_TV They literally have to go through the same shit in medical school. Turkish doctors get asked for consultations from US doctors all the time. It's just cheaper because the country is generally a whole lot cheaper.
This doctor is wayyy off with his transplant cost estimate..25k for 2500 grafts is the biggest ripoff in the world. Hasson will do about 2500 gr for 10k. And you could get 3500 grafts for 12-15k. Sooo Elon spent good money but it's attainable for the average guy as well. Also fin and minox is only worth it for certain cases, it's too harmful to be worth using long-term. Any one who continues to use it is doing so at a big risk. Better to go mostly vegetarian and take good natural supplements as well as practicing circulation to the head and proper hormone control. This doctor is ok but he's nothing special.

I have MS and when I took Tecfidera it killed my hair despite not being listed as a side affect. After I switched medication my hair is back. Autoimmune diseases and treatments are difficult to deal with. Sending positive vibes your way.
I've found after minoxidil, that increased my heart rate and made me dizzy, then finasteride which completely killed the sex drive; I went with cutting the remaining hair very short and spend the money on gym memberships. Going for the Jason Statham look has worked really well. Women are not as concerned about your hair if you have an athletic body , abs and a sense of humor.
It's encouraging to see many people just starting to make public their hair loss journeys, especially when they have some type of reach to the community because their reach motivates others to face their journey as well and look for a community. It's beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
I started going bald in my 30's. It was disastrous for me at the time. But what the hell, life goes on. It's sad about your own issues but you look fine Dr. Gary, believe me. I can tell that as a very intelligent man, you accepted your lot and good for you. Respect.
I empathise. All said, mine left for furrier pastures (the sewer) when I was in my early 20s, and I have always been self conscious. Mix of family genetics and at the time poor lifestyle choices (working late on computer developing AMX Pagemaker, excessive brushing*, little outdoor exercise). *I had very nice 70s like hair if that makes sense, but it was flyaway and difficult to control and style due to a mix of mum's straight hair and dad's curly. So I was constantly brushing and combing it, to no avail and I would nervously fidget with it, twirling it around my fingers. Now I shave it short and all is good, except the sunburn when I forget my baseball cap!
Very nicely explained Dr Linkov! I've just got my first hair transplant at 45 in the hope one would be enough (only 2235 graft units as I was not that bad) and I'm full of natural questions... I'm sure I can better understand my process watching you... Many thanks

As a surely balding hairdresser, I honestly want to work to erase the stigma of men wearing wigs/toupes. Women have that stigma too but it's magnified towards men because society stereotypes us as "we shouldn't care" well I do care and I want to feel good with myself and a good head of hair is how I feel good about myself.
@@chudleyflusher748 I have nearly no basis to compare with. I used to work at a high end salon that made toupes and wigs and I believe they sold toupes for something like 2500kr to 3800kr (swedish currency)

My friend got one online and took it to a barber that cut it after attaching it to his head . He left it a little long at first and then gradually cut it shorter and shorter, it looks great.
I went through chemo in 2019, and lost all of the hair on my body. Obviously, it's different, since mine grew back. Silver and curly! But honestly, I went through it during the hot summer heat then winter, but I learned to embrace it, I rocked it. You totally rock the bald, I understand it can be a bit harder for women..I am one. But the experience was definitely humbling.
It is so unfortunate we place such negative value on male baldness. As Dr. Gary suggests, the costs are formidable for the vast majority of men. Many women (if not most), think bald men are beautiful! Dr Gary is an example of this. What a beautiful person and man. I am a 62 year old happily married woman, but he would still turn my head :). My own husband became even more handsome when he gave in to his early hair loss and shaved his head. He too is a beautiful person which is what matters at the end of the day isn't it!! In the nursing profession we would probably call Dr. Gary (behind his back of course), Dr. McDreamy or something of that nature (LOL). Thank you for an informative presentation!!
It's not negative it's just you're not nearly as attractive as you would be with hair. Hair not only protects your head from the elements but it harmonizes and frames your face to your head. It's vital in attracting a mate. Most men would not be with a woman with the horseshoe shape pattern. Most young women do not like bald men as it makes you look way older. Hair loss sucks but our species has it and we need to do whatever we can to maximize our looks to secure a mate to procreate with
you are just trying to be nice, reality is most women don't find bald men attractive it's a simple fact that i've witnessed many, many times. It's unfortunate but it is what it is.
Love that you aren't hiding your alopecia even though you are a surgeon. My mum had alopecia and she resorted to wigs and it really affected her emotionally and mentally. She also lost her eyebrows. I think it affects women more but i think this look suits you. I do wish there was more advances for alopecia since it can really affect women.

The cost is now $16,000 for about the same amount of hair to be transplanted. I am very pleased with the first procedure and I can't wait to have it done again. Loved your video.
Dr. Gary, that picture of 2002 which you say could be the first transplant, I've actually seen multiple cases of ONLY medical therapy (the top 2) give that result. What am I missing here?

Massive Respect for surgeons, My own hair growth success story I followed methods below: 1. Fragrance free shampoo. Korean cosmetic industry understand why years ago, we are still behind. 2. Taoist soap for hair growth 2x a week only: stops further loss, stimulates new growth. 3. Nettle tea to drink 2x a day at least for removing hormone residue in the liver, further supporting hormone balance, altho not fully but enough. 4. Scalp massage for 30 minutes a day. Do not skip, just massage with your fingertips slow and hard, be gentle at first as next day can get sore. 5. Collagen powder 2x a day w tablespoons each time. Don't get pills they are not high dose enough. 6. Cold water rinse on just top of scalp, don't let cold water on back of neck or head much as you might get sick. But once a day or a couple of times a week does wonders. Learnt this from my brother who spent years looking for answers. He has a full head of hair now and 38. But at 23 he had very thin hair all over. I had thin hair too. Stick to the regimen, and you will see results. Hair growth requires many angels and this is why its hard to cure. You can do this even if you had a transplant, or before one to get the best of both worlds.
People talk shit about your profession and lack of hair?! That's ridiculous, I would think it would help patients relate to and trust you more, bc you have a greater understanding of what they're going through.
Derma rolling seems to help with alopecia. For me that really seems to bring back hair quickly after an alopecia areata episode. Also I have noticed that zinc and vitamin d supplementation seems to help as well.
After getting a hair transplant... is it always necessary to still take finasteride or minoxidil? Or is the hair transplant enough to avoid taking these products. Main reason why I ask is because I am concerned about the side effects of those medicines
You should ALWAYS take finasteride after hair transplant, if you do get bad side effects (very rare) you can quit the medication and the side effects will end as well.
You can try cutting the dosage in half and see if that helps. If I recall they give 5mg of Fin technically you don't need more than like .5 mg in your system for it to be effective.
I came to learn about Elon Musks transplant but stayed because I'm impressed by how comfortable and confident you are despite your medical condition. It's inspiring for us who are losing hair to know it doesn't matter so much.
Despite his condition? One has nothing to do with the other. His ability to perform as a plastic surgeon and how he can confidently explain is due to his experience and expertise in his field.
I had my transplant, 2500, done on Oct 23..... I am seeing the tiny tiny hairs popping up in my windows peak as we speak. The waiting sucks. I've never wanted time to pass so fast.
Hey doc, can you comment at all on topical vs oral finasteride? I know you prefer the latter, but is topical still an effective option and less likely to have systemic side effects?
Doctor, if i don’t have pre-existing hair before the hair transplant, should i be on a medical therapy "Finasteride", after the surgery!! If yes for how long should i be on it? Because what i know is Finasteride is to prevent the pre-existing hair from falling out! And not the new transplanted hair! Please let me know!
The answer to your qn is already in the video. New and existing hair follicle are both at equal risk. And you will need to take the medicines your whole life, or until when the hair doesn't matter to you.
Can you talk about your path to plastic surgery? I'm biochemistry major, and planning to go into medicine, so I'm curious how did you choose your specialty.

You're fantastic. I actually started watching your videos instead of watching movies because your videos are more exciting. You have amazing presentation skills, huge vocabulary and a captivating style of speaking. Thank you for these videos.
So it seems like more often than not, people end up getting at least two procedures done to satisfy what they are wanting to achieve with a hair transplant. In your knowledge, is there a scenario where just one procedure would suffice? And what might the average cost of a satisfactory hair transplant (or two transplants) be?
It is my understanding that 2 procedures are because the person hasn’t stopped balding so the original hair is still thinning while the transplant hair is growing taking hold, so…another transplant is desired.

Hey, not a doctor but my brother was advised to come off Finasteride (the drug involved in hair loss prevention) when him and his partner were trying to conceive as it can reduce a mans ejaculate volume and may also potentially impact the sperm quality, but I also do know that many men have successfully had children whilst staying on the drug.

After covid and the currency exchange devaluation there, the word got out and everyone rushed to Turkey skyrocketing the prices along with it. After adding the flight+hotel expenses it's not cheap anymore but the results are still great.
Still is. 5k for a 2k grafts transplant is a bargain

Yes, agree
Who ever did the hair transplant for Elon, did a great job.
Couldn't agree more!

How much would you say a natural looking toupee costs? Generally.
@@chudleyflusher748 I have nearly no basis to compare with. I used to work at a high end salon that made toupes and wigs and I believe they sold toupes for something like 2500kr to 3800kr (swedish currency)

Do you have any idea if the program "keeps" helps in any way shape or from to combat hair loss?
Hair loss sucks but our species has it and we need to do whatever we can to maximize our looks to secure a mate to procreate with
i think the negative value we place on penis size is more concerning.

Question : does the added hair grow in the new spot ?
After getting a hair transplant... is it always necessary to still take finasteride or minoxidil? Or is the hair transplant enough to avoid taking these products. Main reason why I ask is because I am concerned about the side effects of those medicines
You should ALWAYS take finasteride after hair transplant, if you do get bad side effects (very rare) you can quit the medication and the side effects will end as well.
Minoxidil (topical) has almost 0 side effects, finasteride is a different story but still safe
