  • Finding a secluded place to camp near an urban area isn't easy, but this place served me well. Montana can be tricky this time of year, with the weather being warm on one day and snowy the next, but I lucked out and got in a nice camping trip along the Missouri River. Camping is all about the gear and in this video I try out some equipment that's new to me.
The gear I used in this video:

Thanks for sharing your home territory with us. We are blessed to have good friends who have ranched for generations in that area. We used to help them on the fall gather pushing cows down off Square Butte through the breaks to the home ranch. That tiny stove looks like a good deal, even if the piezo system gave out--why you always have multiple ways to start fires, right? I especially loved that even if Linda wasn't there in person, she was in your thoughts.

I have seen folks buy the freeze dried foods and make their own meals from it they buy chicken or beef or eggs or pork and different vegetables and mix up their own meals to pack in their kit and rehydrate the same as the mountain house, Thrive Life comes to mind or Emergency Essentials is another brand all good stuff.
Its already been in the 80's here in Texas but pretty nice compared to August

The only thing that the commercial freeze dried meals have going for them is the convenience of not have to wash any pots afterward, but they are way too expensive for sure. I just ordered 1qt. mylar baggie's so that I can make my own quick meals. Your comment gave me the idea of looking for those bags!

you can put something under the feet of your chair to stop from sinking, a small disk from plywood or even a flattened aluminum soda can smashed flat by stepping on it a beer can works too, or I bet a lid cut from the top of a can of vegetables or soup or if you took a can of soup camping the can would work just stick the foot of the chair inside the can or a rock but the problem there is finding four rocks that match , if you cut a small disc or flattened can etc can be packed with your chair and reused each time, we used the flat cans under the kickstand on our motorcycles because even on asphalt a heavy bike can sink in and turn over at least on a hot August day here in Texas that can happen as the asphalt can get soft if gets hot enough especially in a parking lot , does not happen on an matured road but a parking lot it has happened to me so I carried a smashed beer can for that reason

@@gonagain When my Dad was still living in Texas born in 1921 and moved to California in 1958 he was a Farmer and rancher, he said in the Texas panhandle you fix it, build it or it doesn't get done. He and one of my mother's 8-bothers built a six-foot-tall fence around her brother's 2000-acre Texas ranch out of used oil drilling pipe and welded it all together around the entire property. I remember seeing it as a boy and finding out what it felt like to touch the electric fence that was behind it, lol. When standing on the dirt road looking at the fence you could not see the end of it. It was like the earth curved before you could see the last poll.
On my mother's side of the family, they had Bonnie and Clyde stay with them for a while. Because of the depression, people didn't like the banks so they supported what they did and at the time didn't believe the law about the murders. I know many stories about them.

What drush406 said! Since there was no trailer involved in this episode I thought I might not like it as much as I do the others... but, boy was I wrong. I was compelled to watch the whole thing and I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. In fact, several times I just broke into a smile...
Tell you what, too, even though I'll have 300 amp hours of AGM and 1500W (12.5A) of inverter power installed in the trailer, I'm looking forward to using my little OUPES Exodus 600 to power a little rice cooker I saw, and a neat little electric skillet... to whip up some Spam-N-eggs! for breakfast first time out camping in my trailer. Should be a few more weeks. Running power forward to the head of the bunk area (120V, 12V and the control wiring loom for a Webasto AirTop 2000 STC D)... and though the galley isn't yet complete with the bunk roughed in it'll finally be campable! I did use the trailer last month as a tool hauler to get up to visit family and completed a 700-mile round trip with it. Nothing fell off! Safe travels to you. Thanks again for your efforts in bringing us these great videos.

I think the only time that I mentioned Bigfoot in one of my videos was when telling about a film that I had watched back in 1970 or so that was about a man who lived in a cabin in the mountains. It was a documentary and it showed how he had taken in a female Bigfoot and her baby. The film was clear (no Bigfoot camera lens!) and it showed her features in good detail. She looked like a cross between a human and an ape. I saw it on one of Seattle's tv stations at the time and have never been able to find it since, even though I've looked for it often.

Yes, at one time the river was lined with cottonwoods. Most of them were cut down to fuel the steam powered paddlewheelers.

Rick what are the dimensions of the tent. Can't do crawl as the knees don't work right. Reposting this q per suggestion of jimv661. I use approximately a 20" airbed so I'm off the ground.

Hello Rick it's me again. Don't worry I am just doing bills and saw you posted and wanted to say I have been watching you for a few years now and I have always pictured you riding off into the sunset at the end of your bike video's or in your truck pulling your trailer. How come you have never done that? It could be just me but when I think of Montana I think of the old west with the hero riding off into the sunset. Any way I will be watching this video again I just wanted to ask that before I had to go lay down my back still isn't doing that great but they are working on it. You all take care and stay safe.

So many cool little mountain ranges out west. I was looking at a couple in Wyoming. The one south east of Casper looks secluded and kind of like the Black Hills. We could spend every summer out there just meandering around. Next time bring a collapsible fishing rod and some spoons, spinners or crank baits and try your luck on some of your trips. It would be really interesting to see what you catch!

Thank you, Rick for the images of the camouflage tent. There are worldwide only a few with a camouflage design and I bought the only one available in Europe for 200 bugs from a Taiwanese company. This Üpon-Tent was horrible. Good to see, that meanwhile there are more on the market.

@@gonagain We do not have Walmart here in Germany, but Decathlon with sometimes similar cheap prices. Most of the tents are too easy to recognize in the woods and wildcamping is strictly forbitten in Germany. There are meanwhile since the gravel biking rend several good single person tents available. But non of these in a camou-design.
