My daddy and brother mined near Pioche, Nevada. Late in life, dad did mining science that was super interesting. I have garnet, platinum and silver dad gave me. Another great adventure Rick and Linda! You’re correct, that trestle with the one rail was for running ore cars out to dump ore into the hopper. When I was a young man in the ‘60’s I worked in a primitive underground mine here in Oregon. We cut cedar on the mountain above the shaft for ties and shoring, laid the rails for the ore cars and hand mucked the ore into the cars after drilling and blasting the face. Then we walked up out of the shaft and start a diesel donkey engine that would winch the car out by means of a cable. After dumping in the hopper we’d ride the car back down the shaft. What a ride! Sometimes we’d fly off the rails on the corners. Just like Disneyland 😝. All for $2.25/hr. Crazy, huh?
Great video Rick and Linda Great story mtnman . Bet you had fun up there in that beautiful location! Hard work to be sure but beautiful scenery! Thanks to both of you . Rick where exactly were you and Linda die if this video . I’d love to go see that man banging inside of that mine 😂
You know, that mine freaked me out too! Not to mention that wind just starting out of the blue like that, even though I've lived in Idaho and traveled all over the Intermountain west and I know it does that. Still, a little work, you'd have a horror movie.
The drive up the mountain is a sight to see. Just imagine the guys that built that road and what machinery they may have used to do it. That would be History that Deserves to be Remembered.
I built those types of mountain roads with my father and brother since the 1960's. Most people never give a second thought on how they are built and the dangers involved. We used D-8 caterpillars, Finning tank rock drill for blasting and excavators. We had to cut right of way first, install culverts and bridges..
I actually haven't much interest in mines but when you put out a video, I don't care what the subject matter is because you two always make it so interesting. It's almost like I'm there too exploring. Thanks for all your hard work. You guys rock, LOL.
Wow what a great adventure! Thanks Rick and Linda. Sure appreciate you taking us along 😁. Check out 5:42 after Rick says “there’s nothing in here now” looks like an orb light makes a quick dash for the far opening! Hmmm😮
LOL. I would have had to change my pants when that shaft started banging!!! Couldn't turn to run fast enough 😳🤷. Stay safe y'all & thanks for taking us along 🙏✌️🌎💞
I used to work underground in a coal mine for Peabody Coal Company back in the 70s and I would say the building with the lizard in it was probably what we called the kitchen, for taking breaks and eating our lunch! Ours were set up underground because we were about 3 and a half miles back in the mine and it took us an hour each way to get there and back! Those old mines like that were usually just a few hundred feet in and the men could come outside to eat their lunch!
That was really cool, that old compressor is the same as the ones used on locomotives in the 50’s and 60’s. Maybe still in use. Haven’t seen one in many years. Thanks again for sharing your adventures. Godspeed good people.
That tank resembles an old-style heating oil tank. Not sure why they’d need heat, but in remote locations like that it could have been used to supply the operation with hot water for cooking, washing, showering, etc…. Just a guess. Great video.

I believe the deep hole/grate you found is a ventilation shaft for the mine. It’s the reason you hear air and noises. There are very likely large fans running deep inside the mine. Ground water is cold, it’s constantly being drained and pumped out. You’re hearing fans and/or water pumps kicking on and off. Mine air moves at a high velocity and low temperatures. Another great adventure!
@@GypsyJvan I can’t speak to this mine in particular because there’s no way to know which mine this is. But, many Nevada mines do have electricity service. The USGS has approved companies converting geothermal energy (hot water) into usable voltage (electric service).

Very cold air indicates a vertical shaft. That banging sound is a metal vent being blown in a breeze. It likely goes up above where you are and exits higher up the mountain., As the outside warm air passes over the opening it moves the pipe causing the banging sound as it slaps against the shaft. Yes, you are right. The track to the building is to load ore into an ore truck. When I lived in Nevada and Montana, I explored a lot of mines. That was before the U.S. Forest Service and BLM sealed them off like these two you showed us. One always has to be careful as many times you could walk into them and have a vertical shaft in the darkness that drops straight down thousand feet or more. I have been in some that we would enter and use ropes to drop down to the lower levels. One of them took all of our 600-foot rope we had with us to get to the bottom. You're right. That mine connects vertically with the one below and, I'm sure the one(s) above. I watch the videos of folks who know what they're doing exploring these mines, but I have no desire to do that myself. Being a pilot, I like blue sky!
@@gonagain hahaha I loved it underground! And yeah, it is always cool in those. The earth is cool inside and if you put in air vents then you get a draft and that makes it feel even cooler. But when you have vertical shafts then you draw up that cool air form there as well and it is a little like a wind tunnel. That barrel on top of the rocks looks like it is set up as a fire pit. It would warm the area up real nice I would think. That banging noise sounded like it was in one place and not moving around as if it was from a machine or some kind. Maybe they have something set up to run with solar power that makes noise. You never know if there are cameras or sensors set up to be used to trigger the noise. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Thanks for watching, see you on the next video! (There was a thud sound from further in the mine that didn't make it on camera. That's what really spooked us.)
You should try the Magruder Road Corridor road if you want to go through some real wild areas. Well worth the trip if you haven't been through it yet. I love your channel, I'm almost retired and my wife and I are getting inspired by your love of travel in remote areas..Stay safe..
Thanks, that looks interesting. We just went down that road a little bit and stayed overnight at Painted Rocks State Park. I didn't know about the rest of the route but wouldn't have taken it this time because it's hunting season. Something for the future!
LOL, one man sub. What a goober... Yikes, that was a deep mine shaft! Wonder if someone was working inside the mine that was making noise? Maye there is another entrance? It did say active mine. Or maybe an animal fell in through a vent shaft and is stuck inside? Or maybe someone is held prisoner in there and is banging on pipes trying to get someone's attention? My imaginations gone wild.... LOL This trip seems to have it's Ups & Downs. LOL Nice video guys. JT
Could be of an air tunnel supply system ...another entrance some other location. Has to have two ports for air to move. The rails looked clear like possibly machinery brought in. It active according to posting so... And gas is about 3 bucks here in N. Ga. 320 in town.
OKAAAAAYYYY…….i would have high tailed it out of there so fast…my mind went to ghosts that have died in the mine…😮 When you left Linda there all by herself I almost died.. Too spooky.. you could come back and the only thing left is her hat…just kidding…great video…but you are way braver than me. Love being on your adventures with you both..Stay safe out there and have fun!
First thing is have good all terrain tires, air compressor and tire gauge. When in a area where you doing a lot of off roading air down the tires to say 50% or so. It makes the ride smother and the tires have more grip, on some roads I've aired down to 10 PSI but I do rock crawling and only run off road tires so I would recommend goodyear.
@@gonagain Did a search on PSI, yours is about 65 PSI so you can air down to 25 no worries. You do need a good air compressor and tire gauge though, check for youtube videos as everyone will air down for off roading. You will like how much better the SUV handles and feels.
That mine is definitely Haunted!! Lol. I was wondering about that out of the blue rain storm and was wondering if a ghost followed you back 😂😂 Stay safe out there. The loud long sound that spooked you almost sounded like a cart coming up the rails. Or I watched too many ghost stories. Lol
Don't go there alone! It did spook us because there was another sound from further in the mine (it didn't pick up in the video) that was more of a pounding sound....
hi rick,, i think that tank was for air..as a reservoir.. so that the compressor wasnt running all the time..just like shop compressors..nice video, thanks..the noises were kinda creepy..lol ...Gypsy J van..
I have to wonder if there is another opening to the mine that if/when the wind hits it just right it causes the bursts of air to shake some of the old stuff in there. Now that made for an exciting and interesting video! I probably would have had a heart attack had I been there in person!
You to make sure to be careful of any rattlesnakes who might be laying around out there. I don’t worry about the sounds inside the mineshaft. Those are just Tommyknockers. Ancient beings, they don’t even know you’re there. They are continuing their work as they always did.
If your ever back in So. Utah stop and say hello. We spend the summers at a little place called Meadow Lake near Panguitch Lake. Come on in and follow the signs. Would love to meet you.

That sounds like fun! Fiido is another very good company and they are planning on coming out with some 26" ebikes. Are you aware of the T1 recall for a faulty frame? They're sending out new bikes to those affected.
Hey guys great video, as usual. Could you let us know what the name of that mine is and then we could do a little investigating and maybe come up with some history about it. Thanks for inviting us to come with you on this adventure.
Just a little concerned when hubby takes off on the bike...leaves Linda..I believe Linda can take care of herself..but if Rick gets hurt...it could be bad....just concerned as even a road rash can turn deadly...for older people..me really loves both of you in your videos.......be careful.... .
Thanks for your concern, Cynthia. We normally have two-way radios and I always take my Garmin InReach with me, just in case I get hurt and can't make it back on my own. Besides, I think Linda likes getting me out of the way once in awhile!
Just something really profound my 16 year old said to me years ago..after a spay in front of her ..she could not wait to hopefully meet and have a relationship like ours..she hopes to meet not only someone she not only could live with...but more importantly someone like us that we could not and would n't want to live without..like you and grandpa cause you always want to make sure that one another's needs and wants come first......Linda and you are absolutely a true example of true and real love....

Hello I'm going to build a trailer similar to Goneagain for similar use (off road) which; is more suitable a 7 ft wide or 8 ft?. Would appreciate input. Thanks
My 6' is too wide for some roads and I have the scratches to prove it! But the wheelbase width of a 6' cargo trailer is the same as the 7' trailer. No way I would go offroad with an 8' wide trailer.

If you happen to make your way by Virginia City, stop by and check out the Sutro Tunnel. Jeff Williams recently did a nice video of it. There was one vertical shaft covered by a grating very similar to what you tossed the rock down, and it may be there for the same reason, to provide fresh air to a deeper tunnel system. ua-cam.com/video/B6xfxEV5Tks/v-deo.html

Thank you Rick and Linda, for the Best of the Best off-road-show on YT. There Definitely is, a Special Bond between Gonagain and those of us who Follow. God Bless as Always. (and that Poor out-house, somebody had too many beans & blew it up)🥴
Thank you, Vencenzo. I wanted to metal detect that outhouse pit, but couldn't, legally.
LOL
This trip seems to have it's Ups & Downs. LOL
Nice video guys.
JT
Believe me, all those scenerios ran thru our minds!
Thank you nita marie! Linda heard the noise first and went closer to see what it was.
I have KO2s on the Yukon, but they are about in need of replacement.
The abyss
hi rick,, i think that tank was for air..as a reservoir.. so that the compressor wasnt running all the time..just like shop compressors..nice video, thanks..the noises were kinda creepy..lol
...Gypsy J van..
Yes, I can see how that would work, especially with that large compressor in the shop. Thanks, Jerry.
I have to wonder if there is another opening to the mine that if/when the wind hits it just right it causes the bursts of air to shake some of the old stuff in there. Now that made for an exciting and interesting video! I probably would have had a heart attack had I been there in person!
It was pretty spooky!
You to make sure to be careful of any rattlesnakes who might be laying around out there. I don’t worry about the sounds inside the mineshaft. Those are just Tommyknockers. Ancient beings, they don’t even know you’re there. They are continuing their work as they always did.
👍👍👍👍👍😀
👋 thanks, narley!
If your ever back in So. Utah stop and say hello. We spend the summers at a little place called Meadow Lake near Panguitch Lake. Come on in and follow the signs. Would love to meet you.
We do go through that area, you might just see us one day.
If you guys come to Reno, I also own some Fiido e-Bikes, 3 actually, but if you want to see some beautiful scenery & the Pyramid Tahoe Bike Path, which is 113 miles long, I'll show you guys around, been living in Nevada since I moved here from Chicago in 2006.
That sounds like fun! Fiido is another very good company and they are planning on coming out with some 26" ebikes. Are you aware of the T1 recall for a faulty frame? They're sending out new bikes to those affected.
Mountain Monsters trapped Big foot!
This video was awesome....great job.
As for that noise I would have 💩 my pants...just sayin lol 😆
Hahahaha! Thanks, Teresa.
Another great video. Was it wind or something trying to get out?
After I saw that gust of wind Im guessing it did. lol
Yes, it was a really cold wind.
Glad I found your channel, heard from Shoestring lately?
Not for a couple of days. I called but he didn't answer his phone.
Hey guys great video, as usual. Could you let us know what the name of that mine is and then we could do a little investigating and maybe come up with some history about it. Thanks for inviting us to come with you on this adventure.
The mine was just above the town of Manhattan so we assume it's the Manhattan Mine Co?
I have the same light, you can send them back for the new version, but it really don't bother me, good video thanks,
That was the first time I let it get that hot. It does get pretty warm!
👍
Oil for lamps
The ghost of Mr chicken
That video
Where exactly where you two . We would like to visit that location 😊
We were above the small town of Manhattan in southeastern NV.
@@gonagain Thank you sir
We really enjoy your videos and follow your channel. I smiled when I saw saw that you are a Stearman driver! Must have been fun flying all over Hawaii. One day I’ll fly around in Hawaii , lord willing. Also glad to see you and Linda , carry. Great job! We know “most” folks are pretty decent , but there are MANY SADLY who aren’t good.
Anyway, keep up the great work and keep ‘the videos coming !

It's a fan blade...
There's someone trapped in that mine. Get them out linda😀
Next time, Desmond!
Bushwah that was messed up. It would be my clue to bounce
Hi🙋♀️❤️🇨🇦‼️ $5.20/gal🇺🇲 = $7.05/gal🇨🇦 - still cheaper than up here: $7.48/gal
Wow.
Glad I have an electric/gas hybrid at those prices.
hey linda did you see the ghost,? time out 14;30 ? oh im sorry, THAT S RICK????? haha but just to let you know there a ghosts at that mine , should have been the when i was there at night, we camped just about 100yds. from there before the shack linda went into, ?
We saw the campsite there....
The banging sounded mechanical. It didn't sound like it was created by the wind. It might be paranormal.
? Do you do a lot of work on your truck to keep it reliable..
No more than a 20 year old suv that gets a lot of use would need. Its always been a reliable vehicle for us.
@@gonagain I got a fairly new car and the places where you go are rough,,,iguess I dont trust my car at all..like your videos.
You did a video recently and talked about savings and a nest egg? I was busy and wasn't really paying attention, and now can't find it?
Sorry about this late reply, Mark. There are a couple of videos along that line:

@@gonagain No problem Rick, I know you guys are on the road ATM so I didn't expect a quick response, and that you would eventually, because you are just that kinda guy. Thanx again.
@@gonagain That wasn't the one, but great video, just the same. You were talking about a guy that was like 70 and hadn't worked, his whole life?
@@gonagain It was the second one. That is me, nothing to live on, so far. I've had three TBI's in my life, two when I was just 5 years old. I look normal, but I'm not. Don't qualify for disability, because I'm not half dead and in a wheel chair. was diagnosed with major depression at 19 and been fighting that over 40 years. 2009 was the worst year of my life when hunting accident took my trigger finger and mangled the middle finger, so not much wrenchin' for me any more. August that year my dog was murdered by a psycho neighbor so now I have PTSD. I'm building a cargo trailer to live in but getting anything done is real tough, let alone try and keep a full time job, which I haven't had for over 20 years. Anyway this is getting long but thanx again for the inspiration, I love your videos, I really want to make some of my own soon .
Someone cut out the rafters in the first building
Bet it’s cold at night
Am I the only person thinking it's the gate to hell 🤔? My thinking if hell is a 🔥 pit then it would make sense (to me) for the gateway in would be freezing 🥶 ,
Probably in my twisted mind alone. 😆
Fuel costs is keeping us not too far from home.
Us too.
Hey could you come back to Montana from New Mexico way please . We live in Deer Lodge plan to sell take motorhome that way, need a route we are not good at this computer stuff and no children to help have a safe trip God Bless
Hello James and congratulations on your upcoming motorhome trip. The way we travel is to avoid the interstates whenever possible, and to take only the back roads through the small towns and out-of-the-way places. It's far more interesting that way.
I'm glad I wasn't in that outhouse. Wouldn't that be some --------.
LOL!
I paid $2.99 a gallon today is Oct 21, 2022 I’m in South Texas
Wow.
