My dad was a fanatic about leaving every campsite in better shape than when we got there. With four boys to straw-boss, we'd get them policed up well at his direction. Once a lifer Army Officer, always a lifer Army Officer.
Oh my, your granddaughters are growing like weeds❤ Linda, I love how you took a nice chunk of wood and turned it into kindling + a spatula😊 My mom wasn't very appreciative of carving or whittling, but Dad was always impressed. Trash left at a campsite drives me crazy🤨; especially, cigarette butts! As a smoker, butts on the ground (anywhere) have me cursing- not usually under my breath! It's wonderful y'all get to spend time as a family unit who enjoy spending time together☆
I was told never get more than one hundred feet from your coat, hat and gloves. Your granddaughter sounds so much like Linda. You have a beautiful family Sir. Nice place to hang out with family and enjoy nature. Stay safe and healthy. I made scrapers from sticks for scraping the pan, nothing that nice as Linda's spatula, very nice job Linda.
Back in the early 1980s there was a huge construction job near Chimney Rock & Westheimer in Houston, TX. Across from my home 2 workers enjoyed$ playing loud music and drinking beers. When they were ready to go, they emptied their cans & trash in the gutter. I calmly walked across the street. Asked these young men where they lived so that I could return their trashy gift to them. They responded by policing their parking space & surround, Too bad camping isolation does not provide a similar opportunity to return trash to its low life owners.
What I remember about Great Falls, if you don't like the weather... wait a minute. I didn't camp any while I was there 50 + years ago but it sure looks a great spot where you were. I remember looking out from the base and seeing the mountains so clear no smog.
What a great video! Rikki (just guessing at the spelling of her adorable name) is a chip off the ole block! Knives are very important. Our grandson is 10 and made his first mammal kill while we were on a trip in Alaska a couple of weeks ago, at our friend’s place. Someone set domestic rabbits free and they are reproducing like mad. Our grandson has been with the men in the family on deer hunts but had only shot at targets so far. He was allowed to hunt with a pellet gun and got his rabbit with one shot. My daughter showed him how to skin, clean and butcher the rabbit and we all had Kentucky Fried Rabbit for dinner. It’s a recipe they had eaten in New Zealand, of all places. It was delicious! Our friend gifted our grandson a new bush knife in honor of his first kill. He taught him to be reverent and thankful for the animal’s sacrifice of its life. It was such a great experience for our grandson. Our friend is a retired park ranger and our grandson is a great listener.
Excellent video as always guys. I thought about you the other day when I saw Jim Tweto had crashed. Great man lost doing what he loved. My brother in law is 72 and still flying mail in Alaska. Thanks again and Godspeed.
Loved the comment about "They are big sites but it's a single site" The last time we were up in the north Cascades, people kept pulling into our site, getting out of their cars, looking around, one even walked down to the river for a while. It was so obviously a campsite, not a public park 🤣🤣🤣
The most ridiculous case was when camped in a national forest, a guy in a pick up camper set up parked/camped right in front of our Yukon like he was purposely blocking us in. We could hear him chewing his food!
Lovely area, worth waiting for! I know the infuriation over a camp area being left like that! The choice words I know well, but it always takes me back the the cartoon where I think it was a bear or a dog that would say, rass-a-frass and rass-a-frass, when he was aggravated 😅. Cool spatula Linda!!!
Wife and I LOVE your videos. We watch every one and take notes for our adventures to MT, ID and NV. For your coffee, may we suggest the AeroPress, best coffee and easy clean up with no water if desired. Thanks so much for taking us along on your travels. We truly hope to meet you some day! Glynn and Lorelei.
Our ATV club had a clean up contest on the mountain. Knowing where all the camping areas were, I easily gathered the most trash. While they were riding up and down the roads, I was getting the trash left in the fire pits. 🤗
Beautiful country, my son has been foraging chicken of the woods mushrooms their texture and meatiness are alot like chicken, but a great flavor, he has gotten around 30 lbs so far we wash an vacuum sealed them and freeze, we also foraged about 8 gallons of wild red raspberry, Linda nice work, my 17 yr. Old son makes wooden utensils, handles for hatchet, axe, hammers ect.,great job on the fire skills, awesome family, have a blessed day, thanks for sharing.
Rick! K-cup!? There are just some things in life a man shouldn’t change! 😂 I agree with you on the campfire trash, the people who did that probably live the same way.
Hi, Linda and Rick. Remember us? Phil and Dorothy. We met you at Valley of Fires campground in Carrizozo New Mexico. We’re still watching all of your videos and wishing we were out there with you but we’ve had things to take care of here at home in San Angelo, Tx. Enjoy your travels and stay safe. Hopefully we’ll meet up again soon 😊
What beautiful lessons to teach grandchildren and Linda making a splashlaaaa. More Montana trips with family would be nice. By the way how's that Hover camera doing?
Beautiful campsite. Very nice spatula. Treen (tree-en) ware...when you need a new one, you just make one! I have a few 'stirrin' sticks' of various sizes and shapes that my husband has made me. I learned something about knives that I hadn't known. I knew about the different uses, but hadn't known what to call them.
That was a great spot for a family gathering. My guess is the grizzlies will take one look at Linda with that spatula and head for the hills though I don't recommend testing that hypothesis. Oops forgot to start boiling my pour over coffee water. Take care.
Nice video guys. Looks like a great place to camp. It really irks me to pull into a campsite and find someone's trash in it. Slobs like that shouldn't go camping, they should stay home where mommy can clean up after them. Great water filter system, I like it! Great job on the spatula Linda. You got some mean Bushcrafting skills! 😁
For that water pump, make sure the top is dry, take some Glad plastic cling wrap to cover the switch, and make it long enough to zip tie it around the neck, then you can still push the button and not need to remove it when traveling down the road. Also for better weather sealing and antifreeze on car and trailer door seals use a silicon spray or paste lube on all rubber parts, and wipe it with a rag. For locks and latches use graphite but sparingly and wipe away any excess, it will not freeze and does not attract dust like grease or other wet lubes that may cause wear. Take care, Mike
Thank you, Mike, those are really good tips! We have to use the silicone on our car door seals every winter or there are days when it will rain and then freeze and you can't get the door open! I'm going to use you plastic bag idea, because we keep forgetting to put the cup back on top of that pump.
Nice job on the spatula. May I suggest mineral oil instead of coconut oil. Mineral oil will not go rancid and is better for food sanitation and preparation.
Hey guys.. beautiful country there in Montana ! Lots of people are just slobs.. leave trash everywhere. Seems almost every time I stop at a rest area there's usually trash lying around and there are trash cans all over ! Sorry if we didn't mention that in this video, we usually give an idea of where the video took place. In this video we were in the Little Belt Mountains in the Lewis and Clark NF.
@@gonagain Rick, thanks for the response. I live and camp in the adirondacks of upstate New York. I have had a Black Bear brush my shoulder as it walked between me and our camper at a state site as I sat by the dying embers of a fire. It's shoulder was higher then mine as I sat in a folding camp chair, and I am 6foot 2inches tall. He was looking for food, and in NY, we can't carry a handgun in state camp grounds...Thanks for all the wonderful videos, you two are great to watch..
Beautiful Linda the spatula and you-
Linda is an amazing carver 😅. Love this video. You guys are something.
Seeing you pass on your woodcraft knowledge to the next generation is a wonderful thing.
My dad was a fanatic about leaving every campsite in better shape than when we got there. With four boys to straw-boss, we'd get them policed up well at his direction. Once a lifer Army Officer, always a lifer Army Officer.
My dad use to tell me same thing son we are going to Police up theses grounds and if it don't grow pick it up.
You have / had a good dad.
The spatula turned out amazing. Great job Linda. I love that your granddaughter is so interested in learning about survival skills
Family, what a blessing. Your grandchildren are making memories. Peace 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
What's awesome? Camping with family and the way you and Mrs. Gonagain teach the kids/grandgals about camping. Blessed indeed.
Family in the mountains, Nothing Better! 😎
It's great to see you passing on the tradition of real camping to your kids and grand kids! You guys are the most down to earth folks!
Thank you!
Another great video, super scenery, but when I saw that finished spatula? WOW. GREAT job.
Great video. Glad to see your granddaughter learning skills. Beautiful spatula Linda. 🐾🙏🏻✌🏻🤙🏻
I LOVE how patient, instructive, and encouraging you were with your granddaughter and daughter! That made this such an amazing video!
Great spatula, Linda!
Nice carving Linda...good to see young people interested in the outdoors and building survival skills.
Good campsite...
Yes, we may have to rely on the younger ones someday.
Oh my, your granddaughters are growing like weeds❤
Linda, I love how you took a nice chunk of wood and turned it into kindling + a spatula😊 My mom wasn't very appreciative of carving or whittling, but Dad was always impressed.
Trash left at a campsite drives me crazy🤨; especially, cigarette butts! As a smoker, butts on the ground (anywhere) have me cursing- not usually under my breath!

She sure had fun making it. Right now she's working on a large fork and she keeps threatening me with it.
@gonagain Maybe she will make a large spoon next? (Everybody loves Raymond joke)
Nice camp get-together and a little bushcraft too... 👍
Grizzly bears love to have campers over for dinner 🤣
We had a moose and calf go through camp yesterday and that can be dangerous too.
Campfire, beers and a good cigar.
Exactly!

I lived in butte as a kid, back in the 90s, then lived in Washington and Idaho, I sure miss the pacific northwest, can't wait to get back up there.
that makes me angry as well...Pack it in...PACK IT OUT! It's so easy! Be safe Linda and Rick! Happy camping!
Wow, if Linda makes any more, I’d like to buy one.
I get her on it.
It is sad to see the way some people leave camp sites. Pack it in pack it out. Thank for sharing. Good work Linda.

Sad news about Jim Tweto, we sent prayers to his family as soon as we heard.
It just hit me funny Linda, but I've never seen a fish "runaway" before 😂. Great yalls family can get together like that👍✌
Google walking fish running away and you can watch a couple videos of it.
I need to look that up!
What a great way to pass a weekend with your family. Regards from UK. AJ
Hi AJ! Nice to "see" you! Hope you're enjoying summer over there!
I like it when they leave firewood.
Linda - your spatula came out so nice! Bravo!
Thank you so much! I use it all the time too!

Rick you are one akamai tutukane! Love your teaching skills!
Nice job Linda on the carved spatula!
Thank you! I've used it‐‐and it works!

Sadly they don't. They think the whole 🌎 is their garbage can.😮
Good stuff.
On my second $19 Walmart k-cup coffee maker. So much more economical than you know who. 😊
Having a cup right now!
Great job on the spatula!

For camp coffee you might consider the Clever Dripper. Excellent coffee with minimal cleaning. Great video.

Good luck on hoping folks will keep things clean...trash everywhere...
Loved the spatula, will have to try that, your all awesome, thanks for all the cool info❤
Rick, I purchased one of the single cup K Cup coffee makers years ago, use it everyday and it’s still going strong.
Beautiful there enjoy

Lately we've been using the repellents that have picaridin and it works great.

I have been using a cheap single-serve coffee maker while camping for about a year and a half. It only draws 700 watts, so I use it with the bluetti eb70. I do also take my percolator though.
I traded in my silver Jeep and I bought a 136 Ram Promaster. Decided not to pull anything. Real comfort for me and Angel Bear.
Very nice and cozy.
Some four letter words were probably going through your head when people leave their trash. Slob. 😀
Those campfire slobs were from Illinois. A lot of them come to Wisconsin also.
Sorry I was wrong. Illinois slobs are much worse.
One thing good about them is they don't go far off the road.
K cups are gross! Plus there are chemicals in the plastic cups that you are heating up. I'm 100% cowboy coffee all the way! Thank You for all the videos.
Yeah, you're right about that and we prefer cowboy coffee too, but K cups are ok once in awhile.
Someone tell Linda that Walmart or Target sells spatulas for about a buck.😂

What about damage to your solar panels from hail?
They're made to stand up to most hail.
you can get reusable K cups
It would be nice to know the time of year (assuming Spring time) and a rough idea of where you were camping (which forest).
Sorry if we didn't mention that in this video, we usually give an idea of where the video took place. In this video we were in the Little Belt Mountains in the Lewis and Clark NF.
Need to have shavings
Do you need to vent those batteries outside seeing as your sleeping in there ?
Lithium iron phosphate batteries do not emit anything like lead acid batteries do.
Boy, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed !
Sorry to say, but there are a lot of pigs in this world today. Have fun and good luck, Mike
Since grizzlies have expanded across most of Montana, how do you two ensure camp safety in brushy areas like what surround your site on this video.
We make a lot of noise and keep our food away from where we sleep. We also look for bear signs and always carry bear protection.

Hello, Chris!!!
Curious how to measure the propane, did you cover this in a previous video
I never did! Looks like I better.
What kind of wood is that I carved too tough finding greenwood
I think it's just pine, she whittled it out of a piece of firewood that was laying around.
