Just throwing this out there to those who don't know, but this song has NO correlation to the La Llorona folk tale about the woman who drowned her children!
This song is about a man singing to his love because he is being called to war. The reason he says La Llorona is because it's a general term that means weeping woman!

    • @crogers3602
      @crogers3602 3 роки тому +62

There is one reference I can think of to the folk tale in the song. In the song the singer brings up how when he cried the pine cried. In one version of the la llorna myth it was said that the trees wept during the drownings. But yes you are right about this not being a song about the myth

Fun fact, this is a very old folk song with little to no association to the old legend of “La Llorona”. As La Llorona just means “crying woman.” This is more of a love song about how everything is sad without them. It could be about the legend but I doubt it. Also, most depictions of the legend have her wearing white, not blue so.
The direct translation goes like this.
      “Ay de mi Llorona”
_ay de mi_ is essentially and expression of pain like “alas” or “unfortunately” and it used similarly to “woe is me” and Llorona is simply used to describe the subject in question, the singers partner.
      “Llorona de azul Celeste”
Is just addressing the subject and describing them as wearing a shade of blue that resembles the sky.
“Y aunque la vida me cueste, Llorona/No dejare de quererte.”
Even if it costs me my life, Llorona/I will never stop loving you
“Me subí al Pino más alto, llorona/ a ver si te divisaba.”
I climbed the tallest pine tree, Llorona/to see if I would able able to see you.
“Como el pino era tierno, Llorona/Al verme llorar, lloraba”
The pine was tender, Llorona/when it saw me cry, it cried too
“La pena y la que no es pena, Llorona/ Todo es pena para mi.”
Pain and things that aren’t painful, Llorona/ everything is pain for me.
“Ayer, lloraba por verte, Llorona/ hoy lloro porque te vi”
Yesterday I cried to see you, Llorona/Now I cry because I see you.
A lot of it repeats so I just translated all of the lines only once.

The story of La Llorna from a Mexican:
La Llorna (not her real name, means "weeping woman") she was a beautiful young girl in a village. A carriage strolled through and the man thought she was so beautiful. He then mrried her and she had his children. Two boys one 2 the other 4. She was walking through a market when she saw her husband. Curious as to why he was there she walked up to him. To her surpise a young woman walked up to him and kissed him. She was filled whith sorrow and went to her home put on her wedding dress, and took her two boys to a river. There she drowned both of her sons, filled with regret she drowned herself in hopes of seeing her boy. God did not welcome her to heaven. She walks near rivers and lakes taking and drowning boys in hopes she will be welcomed to heaven. ( this is the story i was told when I was young )

Also la llorona is also a folk tale that lots of people have interpreted differently. The most popular one that I have heard is this:
La Llorona was a young woman, married to the love of her life. (Llorona isn’t actually her name that is just what they call her) She settled down in a small casa with her husband and over the years gave birth to two beautiful children.( At the time of the story, they are 2 and 4) One day, she went to the market with her children after her husband had gone to work. When she was at the market, she saw her husband. She started to walk towards him, curious to find out what he was doing, but as she got closer, a younger woman came up to him and kissed him. She saw them walk away, holding hands, as she stood there in disbelief. She slowly walked home with a blank expression. When she got home, she put on her wedding gown. She got her children and went to a lake deep in a forest. There, she drowned her children. After she saw what she did, she wept and then drowned herself. Now they say that she haunts the very forest where she died

Huh, that's really cool. The way I was told was something like this:
La Llorona was a widow (her husband died in a car crash) and she fell in love with a rich dude. The rich guy loved her back, but when he found out about her children, he didn't want to marry her, because he thought it was weird. La Llorona then proceeded to drown her children. When she got back to the rich man, he was even more disgusted with her. She then died (I don't remember how), but heaven would not let her in and the devil cast her away. She roams the night, wailing and looking for her lost children. At first glance, she looks like a pretty woman. But when you get close, she reveals her true, disgusting form. She assumes that you are her lost children, and when she finds out that you aren't, she kills you.

Backstory behind La LLorona for those who don’t know: La LLorona was a widowed woman, who found someone she loved years after her husband’s death. The man was disgusted with her, as she was widowed and had 2 children. She drowned the children in a river in the forest, but the man was more disgusted with her, so she drowned herself. Her spirit still roams that forest to this day. Legend has it that if you see her, she will think you are one of her dead children, and when she finds out you aren’t, she kills you.

This was my favorite song ever. It reminds me of my Aubuelita for some reason. For another song you could sing, maybe you could sing The Wall Between us. Or in french it is called Ce Mur Qui Nous Separe. I think you would love the song. It is very sweet and unique with amazing vocals and high notes. There is however two people singing this song. and I don't know how you would choose do sing the song, but I highly suggest it. It is sooooo beautiful. It would make my day if you would consider singing this. I also suggest singing the french version if you do choose to sing this, it is much better.

✨There are many versions of la llorona some are about love, some are scary, and some are sad, but all I know is that every story and version of the llorona is beautiful, entertaining, and emotional. Also that was some beautiful singing.✨

In honor of Halloween, you should totally do a song from one of my favorite horror animations, Coraline!

I don't speak a lick of Spanish, but the way she expressed this song, gave me goosebumps and I almost cried. Love it!

I can't imagine a person and location better fit to sing "Scarborough Fair" than Lauren in the Stairwell
