- CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper and his mother - heiress Gloria Vanderbilt - open up in a new book, “The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son on Life, Love, And Loss.” In a companion HBO documentary, “Nothing Left Unsaid,” the “60 Minutes” correspondent also talks about losing his father and brother. Gloria was born into the multi-billion dollar Vanderbilt family and went on to establish herself as an artist, author and jeans designer. The mother-son duo joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss their book, family history and relationship.
All these years I did not know Anderson was Gloria Vanderbilts son.Amazing.
I'm here after watching the documentary on HBO and I have to say, I have such a newfound respect/love for Gloria and Anderson. I could definitely see myself in both. She may be one of the most fascinating people I've ever seen.
Gloria looks amazing!! Boy, the things money can buy! But to have all of her faculties at 92, that is amazing
baby blood also helps
She is beautiful! I am amazed she is in her 90s and I had no idea Anderson Cooper is her son!
IW Nunn It is .Absolutely
Will Ganness It might be makeup on the outside (although she still looks great!) but to be 92 y/o healthy with no dementia and able to walk, talk, articulate, and comprehend questions is not easy. No amount of makeup can makeup for that.
Rest in Peace Ms Vanderbilt.
I'm so sorry for your loss Anderson Cooper. Your mom taught you well. Prayers
@Gremlins R Everywhere you are despicable
I don’t even know what to say.. 92 ... I am absolutely speechless. She looked incredible at 92 years old... wow. I am absolutely stunned..
It's all the plastic surgery she had & dyed hair or maybe even a wig. LMAO
Chrome
Good Lord Gloria Vanderbilt is 92??? She looks FABULOUS..!!
Lydia Burns no kidding!
LOL if you had her money, you'd look just as good.
Not saying she doesn't look good...but I think all that work on her face,(especially, those cheeks implants or fillers), she can hardly talk. I don't know if she had a stroke and it's trying to be "fixed", but I think she would look better without that stuff...to me, plastic surgery just dates and ages you more. These young girls doing this stuff at such young ages....dear lord...there faces are going to melt off,(unless they perfect face transplants or are able to 3D scan genetic skin/faces and transplant that way?) But agree, money and lifestyle help you to look better. I know I will be alone and ostracized for this comment...no disrespect indended....MOO.
they drink baby blood that makes them trip out and retain their youth
She drinks the blood of terrified children and babys. ua-cam.com/video/kzp5IxK8Rl8/v-deo.html & Gloria with her kids. i.redd.it/8jhx9t85al401.jpg
It is easy to have a relationship with your mom when she is coherent and remembers who you are........not like most people at that age who are in a dementia/alzheimers fog......You are one lucky bastard AC. Kudos....
He is lucky to have such a close relationship with his mother but he also lost his Dad when he was 10 and his brother when he was college age. That isn't something most people have to go through that young.
Indeed, my 85 year old Mom repeats her stories over and over. Gloria is amazing, so coherent, so active, even looking much younger than 92.

l really enjoyed seeing how happy Anderson and his mom were together.
I watched the documentary... I laughed and cried and wanted there to be more. Thank you Ms. V and Anderson for sharing a glimpse of your lives with us.
Gloria speaks so wonderfully expressive.
Rest in peace Gloria Vanderbilt. Such an elegant lovely lady. My prayers are with you Anderson Cooper.
You're a troll Joe, spreading disinformation! Oтвали! Take your hate back to your moms basement!
@@johnwright2911 just check out the picture of her and her son's with a satanic child sacrifice painting above her head.
Evil
She was luciferian.
RIP...watching her story now..which is narrated by her son Anderson Cooper....she was 95...rest in Peace...wow I had a pair of her jeans when,I was 17..luved them...
I’m 79 and they are the jeans that fit me the best!
She is remarkably lucid and has her memories still even at her age. My mom is 92 but when we ask her about some memories she used to have, she just smiles and shakes her head, says she can't remember.
1 FKT if i ever get to that age, i'd like to be as lucid as her
1 FKT it's so hard to understand sometimes how someone in their 90's can be so in the moment, so aware and have all their senses- yet some people, as was the case with my Mom, endured many years of her life with multiple medical issues and then seeing dementia setting in her 80's. And people even younger- in their 60's- going through dementia and other conditions.
So many questions we may never understand how people age differently from each other.
foreal I can't even remember most of my childhood and I'm like 5 times younger than she was here
Brings them both down to earth and helps me appreciate them. I love Anderson
It's so cute...Anderson feels he has to finish her thoughts and sentences, even though she's an icon....I do the same thing with my 75yr old mom, and she yells at me in public for doing so!
Yes, it's very sweet! He seems to want to step in if she seems uncomfortable. I also felt the hosts should have let the interview flow better. They kept cutting him off! I just watched to doc on HBO. Excellent! Have you read the book?
Love Anderson Cooper....gorgeous. ethical..
BRILLIANT..
Trustworthy..
Love the way he " nails" hypocrites!!!
Lol
That's funny, she yells at you.
Lol I think it’s in daughters nature to do that I’m 43 and my 18 year old does that all the time it makes me so mad lol
This happened to me and my dad, my mother passed away over 3 years ago. It brought me and my dad closer than we have ever been.
I just can not believe Gloria is 92, the way she talks and the way shows her thinking at that time she looks like she' in her sixties, she is nice and gentle, I think she also has a educated heart, I am glad she likes to paint, course we have the same taste.
Gloria Vanderbilt is the perfect example of "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Have always admired Anderson Cooper for his sincerity😊 and compassion as a reporter.
Didn't know Gloria Vanderbilt had such a wonderful outlook on life... so beautiful listening to them both talk!
lakegenesis i
lakegenesis, and that's why she is so well preserved. People who are genuinely beautiful within. I don't believe it has nothing to do with wealth or poverty.
God blessed her with a long life and god blessed Anderson with his mom for a long time. She was a lovely and interesting lady.
Gloria Vanderbilt ❤ so beautiful. R.I.P.
Anderson Cooper- please accept my deepest sympathies.
I dont mean this in a bad way but is it easier to have a good outlook in life when you have the security of great wealth?
In some ways yes, but look at all the rich people and celebrities that commit suicide. Everyone has their issues and problems to work on. Money can help on some issues, and it can make others worse.
you’re absolutely right
Lol
No. It depends on what one values...
I think its also very eaay to make judgements when you are on the outside looking in.
Happy to see this interview, I have read the book, and I think Gloria is just amazing, and Anderson, well he is his mother son. Thank you for sharing.
We love Anderson for who he is!!!
Its great she was able to get beyond that phase in her life when she was exiled as a teenager and became a fashion icon in her own right. I spoke to Anderson Cooper one time when he was placing a phone call.
When a family goes through a suicide in the family it not only effects the immediate family it also effects the future generations
oh shit that pic of his dad in the beginning. He looks a lot like him!
Yes he does look like his father wyatt cooper was also a novelist. Gloria saw something in him that was major.
“ I love you too, you know that” brings chills to me. Have always adored your Mom ever since I discovered her decorating books as a young Mom in Brooklyn
May your beautiful & incredible Mom rest well. Love you Mr. Cooper.
RIP Gloria Vanderbilt ❤
Loved this 💕 Delicious! I also “loved” my GV jeans in H.S. ! Love Anderson, he is very much getting more Amazing with age.
Gloria Vanderbilt was a beautiful and fascinating woman. She lived her life on her own terms. I had a pair of her jeans..WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT.. Her life is extraordinary as well..i loved watching this documentary. Beautiful story..Prayers to Anderson Cooper, RIH Peace Gloria...
I had the jeans as well..
I have always admired the relationship between mother and son too beautiful because of this sed loss God will comfort you know how special you have been and her for you ✨
No she look like shes about 87...facelifts , botox, hair dye, makeup, concealer. a caucasian 87 easily ....melanin is the key to great looking skin that doesnt age rapidly after the age of 30.
I love everything about her. She has the most positive personality.
91???? She looks amazing.
What a beautiful son/ mother relationship.
😊
The Rainbow is Always there! You just have to look for it the rainbow after the storm, of rain............Love to You Both Miss Janie
She is lovely. Their book is so touching and extremely heartbreaking, all at once.
Damn! Anderson's dad was hot!
He still IS hot 😉
SPOKEN LIKE TRUE GAY
Anderson's NOT.
Ha was also gay. Look at Anderson he is gay also
Anderson Cooper is gay, he recently broke up with his boyfriend. He's a very handsome man. I love watching the Ridiculist lol
she is so charming......i love the way she embraces life.....even at her age..
WOW AMAZING LIFE BOTH OF YOU GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS. REST IN PEACE SINCE I AM WATCHING THIS NOW IN 2019 JUNE 17TH
She's so pleasant even despite her personal tragedies. She has turned them into triumphs.
Gloria rocks for 91!!!!! wow
All that means is she got past Cancer
Wait!!!!!! Gloria Vanderbilt is 92???!!! WOW!!!
Thank-You Thank-You Gloria... The Necklace someone gave me, is lovely.. Love to you and Your son, Always, Miss Janie
This is a lemonade from lemons story that stirs the heart.Thank you, Gloria. You are a true thoroughbred, and not because your name is Vanderbilt. You have overcome evil with good, and chosen love and joy despite terrible heartbreak. Anderson is living proof of this.God Bless You both. You are each an asset to humanity THANK YOU both for demonstrating what true character looks like and for shining your Light brightly into the world.
There are even more tragedies that were not widely reported. Look up Anderson's half-brother, Christopher Stokowski, Gloria's son by famed conductor, Leopold Stokowski. He abandoned the family after Gloria's therapist ruined his marriage engagement. The therapist was later convicted of stealing over $1 million from Gloria and cheating on her taxes. She had to sell property to pay the government of back taxes. Chris reconnected with the family after 38 years after watching the HBO that Anderson mentioned in the interview. It's a truly bizarre story. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3944494/CNN-host-Anderson-Cooper-reunites-brother-not-seen-38-years-bizarre-dispute-mother-Gloria-Vandberbilt-s-therapist.html
@Martha McGee you said it nicely. Gloria had a great mindset despite her personal tragedies. She could have given up at any point. Inheriting money is no guarantee of success or mental stability. Gloria had drive and determination. She was creative -- an author, a designer, an artist an entrepreneur. Loved life. An inspirational woman, and mother.
Gloria would be the same age as our neighbor who is still alive today, 113. Born 1905. She sounded a lot like Jackie Onassis.
Thank you so much...The reflection of you and your Mother is really nice...
I read the book . A very touching story of mother and son.
Anderson Cooper sounds like a real nice guy! He loves his mom! I would be honored to meet him and his famous mom Gloria vanderbilt!
She had a heart of gold! Her name was on my back pocket for years!
GREAT mother and GREAT son
Gloria Vanderbilt is a living legend; a class act through and through. It's heartwarming to see that, even with all the fame and fortune one could ever imagine, she managed to raise a grounded family who is incredible in their own right. What an absolutely charming mother and son.
It’s great to see this wonderful relationship!
I just love this. How fortunate and blessed they were/are close💜💜💜💜💜
What a great interview. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve listened to them narrate the book. A beautiful story about Mother and son. 🥰
It's the most beautiful book
I'm a kindergarten teacher and yes! We know! lol
way out of her time this parenting
What a fab relationship they ahve reached
Those two have a lot of insights, wisdom and sensitivity. I appreciate that they are sharing this with others.
4:36 lol I like how Anderson kept trying to talk but kept getting shut out.
That was a funny ending but like -- wow, she is wisdom all day. I'm going to go out and love and enjoy life!
Nice interview; refreshing when people have actually done their research and read the book!
I would love for them to turn this book into a movie not just a documentary
I'm 69. I bought my first pair when they came out and I still have my Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. They are all I wear.
An amazing woman, mother, and son. You found your way Anderson. She wanted you to be strong and have character to which you have both. To me, Gloria had insight, intuitiveness, amazing love for her children. She was completely sincere, which today is almost unseen in the US Population? A blessing on you and your children Gloria and on you Anderson. You are the embodiment of TRUE love between a mother and her son. It is eternal.
Sorry for your loss Anderson Cooper, Your Mom was an incredible person, talented. loving mother in spite of much hardship in her life. RIP Gloria! Anderson go on living for her and laughing just the way you two did together as you go through life!
Anderson is such a gemini. 😂❤️❤️
loved this on PBS, great bio
Love Gloria Vanderbilt, always have, even before I knew Anderson existed. Shes amazing!
Once again kudos to Anderson and his beautiful mom gloria Vanderbilt. Anderson you are the voice of now. I look forward to seeing you on all venues when I move to a complex where i will have tv access. That and me tv love the reruns.
No amount of talking would've left nothing left unsaid with my parents. Therapeutic Anderson, bravo. Agapé
I love this, I have the video and the book.
The pain remains the same......Big love
92 years Old Gloria Vanderbilt LOOKS 62 years what is your secret Gloria Vanderbilt
No secret, surgical enhancement. Time for AC to have some procedures ...
The Powerful Gloria Vanderbilt
Money!!
Never had to work.
💉
Inspirational.
I mean, if the advice;’always be in love and be hopeful’ ~ despite tragedy, is not the inspiration *I am gratefully indulging in, well, I don’t know what is for goodness sakes. Gloria, you were one lovely lady. Anderson, you are a gem.
What a marvelous interview to watch.
I'm related to the Vanderbilts my uncle owns the Biltmore estate in North Carolina it's my great great grandparents
Just ran across "THE RAINBOW COMES..." at a second hand book seller, and grabbed it. The way in which it is written is most engaging: can't put it down!! As I comment, the book is here on a table - close by my elbow. Gee now I think of it, GV's jeans are also near me right now - covering my not so skinny backside!! Fascinating, these two people. And how, resuming dialogue with a parent later on in life (this happened for us when we home cared our mother, moving her in with my sister, when mom was in her early 90's) can heal. And often, somehow... round out a lifetime, as one reaches the 'far turn'. Not without pain, but always the rewards of greater understanding. I have huge respect for 'Coop"..and I see where he gets many of his impressive personal assets (no, I don't mean the family's money!)
She is absolutely amazing!!!
I feel like Charlie Rose is completely smitten 🙈
Most people at 90+ years are dead, meanwhile at over 90 she looks mid 70's. On another note their house the breakers in Rhode island has a fountain under the grand staircase, because what were they gonna do, leave it barren?
bill seemore this lady surprises me...I was thinking she is only 60s.. something.
NONE, yeah, must be nice to be elite. the only stress she has to fear is a public scandal.
bill seemore social status and money only shelter you from some things like monthly expenses. In Gloria's case, I'm sure she would rather have had affection from her parents than all the money in the world. And nothing comes between an individual and the punch in the gut that comes when one's husband dies on the operating table or one's son steps back from your outstretched hands and falls 14 stories to his death while you stand in helpless horror.
why must you bring Barron Trump into this
She looks 66
91? Wow, Gloria Vanderbilt looks incredible!
RIP To Gloria Vanderbilt
Who knew she was part Chilean
Anderson is so handsome and loves his mum just like i do my
mums my best friend!
Well done. You paved your way and did it classy
Such a wholesome interview!!
La voz de Anderson es Maravillosa
You can only look that good older when you are wealthy. No money stresses really does wonders. If you have ever toured The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC you would know what I mean. These people are super wealthy.
I think what gives her that youthful look is her happy disposition which probably stems from a grateful heart. No amount of money can make a person look youthful if they have bitterness in their heart or simply a negative attitude. She mentions having a joyful outlook in anything.
@@bella4644 Thinking about it you are right.
I'm blessed with no money stresses except having to work all the time. I enjoy what I do so that makes it better. Being debt free and doing what you want is a blessing. But I am middle class....not super wealthy. People are people down to the core no matter what you have or don't. I've hung out with the bum on the street (literally) and have been friends with wealthier people. We are ALL HUMAN beings. And regarding the looks...depends on how you take care of yourself and how healthy you are and habits.
2:57 when ur too busy checking him out to actually listen...
Rest in Peace Gloria ❤️
You are so lucky to have such a wonderful and caring mother Anderson. We can all tell how very close you were to each other. I am sure you will always love & miss her. God bless both you and your mom Anderson. ❤️
RIP Gloria Vanderbilt 💔😢🙏
I pray there is a heaven because she deserves to be there!.... Painting up there with her ex husband and son 😪🙌🙏🖌️🖼️🎨

Amber Agee There is. And it’s only through God’s grace and his son Jesus Christ that they ARE all together again.
*Am I the only who never knew he was a Vanderbilt* ?
I never made the connection. When his mother died and it was revealed I was like....say what!?
Carole A Yup!
@@sandragruhle6288its not something he talks about a lot
"She took me to Studio 53, twice!" 🤣 Love that
Thanks she look great and still have a sound mind.....just gorgeous
She has just passed away June 2019 RIP
Wow I didn't know she was in her lower 90s! I can't help but wonder what she has gotten done to make her look that young but then again she can do what she wants since she's 91 or 92!
I have always loved watching Anderson Cooper! I was sad 😢 when they cancelled his talk show!
Gloria looks great but we must always remember that in her youth, Gloria was drop-dead gorgeous.
Gloria Vanderbilt was so bless. To have had a son like Anderson Cooper. He seem to be a great son.
God Gloria Vanderbilt still Looks Amazingly Beautiful .....God Bless Her....I stilll have my Jeans
love is not lost unless one has never loved
I don't tend to have an interest in the people who present the news, but this trio brought together such different backgrounds, attitudes and skills that I actually looked forward to turning them on in the morning. I admired how they managed the balancing act of subduing their egos out of professional respect. Now, I can see tensions I didn't pick up on. For example, CR cutting off GK with his question--because these interview subjects were on the level he had built a career on and the chit-chat Oprah style wasn't going to stand in his way.
