I love that a Vanderbilt biography was written by a family member, and that family member is Anderson Cooper. One of America's greatest journalists. This interview is so interesting because you assume that if you were born and Barrymore or a Vanderbilt they came from money, but both Drew and Andre talk about having to make their own way.
theres another book that was written by a Vanderbilt. but Anderson's perspective is bit more astute largely because he's been doing objective coverage of events and people his whole life. and being the son of the Poor Little Rich Girl has a special perspective on what its like seeing Poor Little Rich Girl grow up and all the challenges that still happened in her life (and therefore affecting Anderson). i'm super super happy that Anderson finally is coming to terms with his Vanderbilt genes, its in him that much is clear. The Commodore if he visits present day would very likely say that Anderson is the greatest Vanderbilt so far, its not about the money, its the power and respect from fellow humans that ultimately drove the Commodore to do such great feats and thats something Anderson has in spades which we all bore witness in his public life, and yet it doesnt corrupt him.
I saw his first documentary and I fell in love with it. How his mother saved all these precious memories, photos, letters. That’s a lovely legacy to keep.
It's truly amazing how much money & American history there is between these two. Drew & Anderson seem like really nice, genuine, friendly big hearted people, which is amazing when you know where they came from & their family history!!
Fun Fact: Vanderbilt University it was named in honor of Cornelius Vanderbilt who provided the school its initial $1-million endowment. He was Anderson Cooper's great-great-great-grandfather.
@@Gummybearkillerr Ever hear of the Biltmore Estate? That was constructed for George Vanderbilt. It is the largest home in the U.S. The Vanderbilts still own it.
Lovely show. I am impressed with both you and Mr Cooper. For me humility is a spiritual ideal. I have much I could learn in this regard alone from both of you. You both transcend social classes, and have class and lovely views of the world. God bless you Drew, I had rough beginnings too and truly admire your strength, courage, compassion, and lovely humility.
I had, years ago, wondered how Drew had felt about all the pressure and assumptions that came with her family name. Imagined it could not have been easy.
That's so sad, Anderson saying nobody even LOOKED at him when he was a waiter. My Mom was a waitress & she raised me & my brother literally on $2.00 an hour plus tips and she usually used her tips to bring us home supper because she had to BUY the food to take home to her kids. Needless to say, I over tip now, to an astronomical degree. I had no IDEA that Anderson had a Mississippi side but I have loved watching him WAY before he was so famous because he was so REAL!!
Yes Anderson, some people treat you better if they KNOW your rich family. Loving people will treat you kindly no matter what is your status in life. That is how we filter these people out.
In another interview, Anderson reveals that one of the people who ignored him when he was working as a waiter was Brooke Astor... didn't even say hi back when he said hi to her.

It’s a lifetime achievement to exceed having a last name that insinuate “Deep Pockets”, now my first name is way more valuable to me I built my own name, my name didn’t build me that’s why this presumption is rebuttable to so many people who believe they need a last name to be important.
Talk about the abuse. My God, people, get free from your abusers. Be truthful about what happened! But these people can't ever tell the truth. They protect their abusers.
Ugh something about this rubs me the wrong way. It’s like he’s completely out of touch with how privileged (socially etc) he is and how many doors were opened for him because he is a Vanderbilt. He so desperately craves normalcy but has no idea what that truly entails. I know he works hard, but he has done so in a bubble.
Yeah, I was looking for someone else saying this exact thing. Like maybe he didn't have a trust or literal millions waiting for him, but his privilege is on a level 90% of us will never see. I still think he's cool, no hate, it's just interesting to see how being dissatisfied with life is so common. The average person would love to have a last name he wanted to hide.

Anderson has just milked his lineage so much! I mean how many times do you need to tell us that you mom was is/was Gloria Vanderbilt. Anderson talks about himself so much, he just seems so self absorbed.
You have to admire Anderson cooper . He truly is a wonderful person! Happy for him that he is a Dad today ! Congratulations 🎈
Drew appears to be a real down to earth person. She's very likeable.
yup

Would love to see a Vanderbilts documentary narrated by and featuring Anderson Cooper. He's really such an engaging speaker.
I love Anderson Cooper! He’s so classy and everything. ❤️
I saw his first documentary and I fell in love with it. How his mother saved all these precious memories, photos, letters. That’s a lovely legacy to keep.
I love how introverted he is. I love shy people ❤️
Anderson Cooper is such an intelligent, humble and decent man. He is the epitome of class.
Thank you for your compliments Elizabeth 🎉, i still consider my fan base the best fan base out there 👏
Sat down with Anderson’s book to read and just picked up my phone and this interview was on! Crazy….love you both!
Is that fate?
How is the book?

His great grandmother was. He doesnt even acknowledge his Chilean roots

I wonder how the Gates family will unfold in the future. I hope they have to make their own way too. Mr. Cooper has done extremely well for himself
Bill Gates' father was a well known supporter of eugenics.

Precisely . Well said .
Sour grapes. A typical commoner murican trait
He lived his life as a Cooper. He never told anyone who is mother was. Most people that met him did not even know.
Jesus is your way to heaven Believe in him and you will have life after death. He shed his blood for your sins to be forgiven.
I've always like Cooper but not in agreement with his politics.
Yeah…ok whatever
LOL 😂
