Ron, what you're doing with these interviews has a real cultural significance. One day when historians try to piece together the history of Jungle these videos will be the definite resource
@LondonSomething1994 True what @beatsbykabuki is saying. It's great to hear from all these pioneers of such an amazing and significant musical force. Having lived in Stoke Newington and Hackney for over 20 years, it's great to pinpoint places that have been instrumental in Jungle's development - the Nightingale estate for one, Hackney Downs....hearing about Kenny Ken dropping his first E in a van under the railway bridge next to Hackney Downs Station, funny when you've walked past the spot thousands of times. Hackney's place in Jungle is as important as Bow's is to Grime or Croydon's is in the birth of Dubstep. Don't know how long you intend this series to be Ron, but there are so many potentially great guests you could talk to from obvious heads like Grooverider to people/teams like Photek, Trace, Family Of Intelligence, Noise Factory, Sub Base Recordings, Moving Shadow, Remarc, Bukem (RIP Conrad, sad news) Ed Rush & Optical etc etc. The list is long. All great stuff so far 👍
Jump Jack Frost is a true ambassador of the scene that has gone above and beyond his role in pioneering music. I know for a fact he's given back to his community and has been a champion for mental health. I am personally inspired by him and find strength from his openness and attitude. He opened the door for a lot of talent with the scene and deserves his flowers.
Big ups to JJF, i almost help bring him over to Australia for the Planet V tour earlier in the year but he had a tour conflict, he was doing the leg in Thailand at the time. Instead we had the pleasure of bringing over Bryan Gee, Paul T and Ed Oberon, all lads, had a blast opening for them! Big ups and much respect! 🙌🙏
Something I will never forget in my life this years sun and bass, Marky and Die playin 70s disco funk, and I saw Frosty just vibing, dancing like a teen. I thought man, you can tell this guy got music flowing in his veins, and so nice to see such an icon of the scene just being himself, just vibing in a different mindstate, like you could imagine a young Frost on the dancefloor, and I felt wow he actually just now went back in time in his head for real! (as english is not my first language I cant really explain it well, but I got a feeling then that was something special. ) Im only 38, and this interview for me was education for real, like modern english history, society, not only music like the whole life. This channel is mandatory for anyone even remotely interested in history, music, the founders of the scene.
@@LondonSomething1994 I watched it in one go. Another really interesting interview. So basically Bryan, Bryan G TURNED Nigel's directions in life to become "JJ FROST" 🤯 MIND BLOWN! Love these UA-cam VIDS cause you learn so much about the DJ"s from the Jungle days and how it all started for them and the bad they overcome!!! BIGGIN RON EACH AND EVERY FOR BRINGING BACK THE OLD DAYS!!!
Thanks for these Ron - documenting our uk legends is long overdue and you are the perfect connection to bring these to light. Other notables of note I think are SUAD, Congo Natty, DJ SS, Bukem, GQ, SL, Slipmatt, Navigator plus the crucial links to uk hip hop - Demon Boyz, Hijack, Ragga Twins, Gunshot, MC Duke…the list goes on!
People forget about Frost. He was a huge name in the rave scene, a massive don in the jungle scene, 1/2 of V Recordings (one of the UK's greatest dance labels)... he's had some career!
Yes! Nice thing to wake up to! My first intro into Jungle was a Jumpin Jack Frost tape from 1993 in Toronto and I was hooked! Seen him so many times and nothing but love!! Thanks Ron!
We should always remember that real positive changes can happen for everybody of us and around us 💯👊 What a great interview and special big ups to Bryan Gee 🙏
Omg! JJF on the show, absolute legend! Yes Ron. Not listened to it yet but so looking forward to hear what the Frost has to say and so glad The Originals are still going strong. So much love.
Smashed it out da park as always Mr Ron. What a legend Jumpin Jack Frosss da Bawrse is. Always one of the first tapes out da tapepack, and one dat always got teef! Bad bad bad sets. Always a special treat. Not to be graphic, but like wen Fross sets starts, like Nicky, double drop time. You guys are all the soundtrack to my childhood and youth and indeed the best years of my life. Thank you thank you thank you. We can never repay you for all wicked experiences and memories. I had Jumpin Jack Frost Book Of Love 1992 on Cassette when I was a kid; One of the Best in Spinback-Mixing and changing Tempo. And yes, I am also a sufferer of depression, so fully appreciated what this man has experienced.
Such an informative and in-depth interview with one of the foundations of a genre, which is British based. Good to see Nigel expressing his journey from a youth to a man and fighting his battle of depression. Big shout out to yourself Ron for producing such an artistic interview, giving those that are not exposed to the insight of many DJ's journeys. Well done and keep up the good work, lets hope your next journey leads you to interviewing many of the Promotors, who have also played a pivotal role from Acid House to Jungle to Drum and Bass, that have formed a British Foundation in Music today, that is recognised around the World. Peace and love.
Another fantastic discussion......nothing more to say...big to Ron and all those who help this wonderful thing together each time....keep up the great work
Love these podcasts i love hearing the back story of the artists . Jumping Jack Frost was the first dj I heard on a cassette tape live at xstactic . I was 11 years old thinking what was this music , Since that day I’ve been following the whole scene collecting the tapes becoming a dj myself not big time .😂 and I’m still buying dnb vinyls now and I’m 43 , all because of 1 set . This is a brilliant interview. Thank you JJ Frost for being so open and candid about your journey. I’ll be buying your book to read on my upcoming holiday.
Amazing interview once again. So much depth. We are so lucky and privileged to have the dons of the scene, not only still about but still at the top of their game. It's the equivalent of rock n roll having interviews with originators like buddy holly or bill Hailey. Guys like frost, finn, ray Keith are legends and we get to witness it all first hand. ❤
Can't believe I've only just seen this channel. Subscribed straight away and will watch all the previous episodes. Thank you Dj Ron for asking excellent probing questions and JJ Frost for being so open and frank about his journey.
Thank you Ron & Nigel for this beautiful conversation. I see your maturity and the wisdom that this brings. You are true gentlemen. There is a tendency to think that DJ's / MC's / Artists within the music and Jungle / drum n bass scene can have big ego's and be up themeselves, and of course some are and it can be a difficult thing to ride when you blow up, but you guys bring an honesty and humility that is so fefereshung and real.
