How have I been watching Dave Canterbury, corporals corner, gray bearded green beret, black hat bushcraft, and all the others I watch on the regular and not ran across this? So cool what you’ve done with all the Stanley hacks. Just subscribed.
Always looking for more bags and pouches. This one looks great. I like the way it folds up, sort of like a dump pouch... I can think of many uses for this one. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Nice video. All due respect, I do 99% of that stuff with a crown royal bag. Only thing the crown bag doesn't do is attach to my belt, pack whatever. Real good bag in any case
Saw Dan’s video a day or two back . First thing that pops in my head is that you could collect small tinder in it as well . Thanks for sharing. Haven a great day
Blackie has influenced many great bush-craft products! Glad to see that you invested in his product to share! Mill Bags are old school and it's a time proven design that fits the bush-craft community just right!
A handkerchief works just as well for debris and weighs far less. I personally my Stanley cup in a crown royal bag. It keeps noise down and doubles as a debris filter.
It works like a millbank bag to remove suspended particles from water before you put it through a filter. Your filter lasts longer if you use one of these, so a millbank bag soon pays for itself.
I have the Multi Bag here in New Zealand. Great item. I was pleasantly surprised to see it on your video. I am so enjoying and learning from your videos James.
I have a bunch of canvas I stocked up on when that one fabric chain store went out of business. Also a lot of leather from the amish leatherworking shops up the road. I REALLY need to get busy making some bags. I like the milk bags for filtration due to waxing my canvas. My stanley kit always has a bandana or 2 in there, though. That reflectix stanley cup coozie using aluminum ac tape that I made works great for dehydrated meals. Another great stanley cup vid. TC and ATB, Cris.
Great review and idea for the Blackbird. Might get one but kind of expensive. I'm using an old Fieldline hunting pouch for my Stanley that allows for extra room for plastic water bottle and more, including a thick cotton bag form some fancy grits.
Yes. They are both great pieces to own. I actually have Blackie's prototype haversack because he gave it to me. It's the one he used in all his first videos. I was both shocked and honored when he unloaded his gear and handled it to me. He is a great friend as well as a very knowledgeable outdoorsman. Thank you for watching!
I’ll feature this video on my Facebook page: Fans Of Bushcraft Packs , Bags and Pouches. This looks like a super versatile piece of kit! Great job! I’ll probably be getting one of these😃
As soon as you said Untreated Canvas I knew what was coming. I have a Milbank bag in my pack but that bag I absolutely brilliant! Love it. Edit: I tried the link twice for the bag and it appears to be broken.
Unfortunately, the man that sold those bags has passed away. You can still get them from a mutual friend of ours, Blackie Thomas. You can find him on UA-cam as well.
How about a green scotch pad cut round the same size as the lid to clean the pot and stop the rattling. Also if the bag had D rings on the sides you could carry a water bottle in it with a strap just a thought! Attached with 4 rivets with a backing so it doesn’t pull through. I’m on a roll here enjoy your channel.
Or boil it when you get home- the bleach will attack the canvas. But... Boiling probably isn't so good for the waxed canvas... Buy your ticket, take your chances.
I'm new to your channel. I loved the filtering idea ! But I'm wondering why you said its $37 and the website says its $38. Also, you really should make a new video, showing the new design of this bag, without waxed lid; otherwise it's just misleading.
I like a lot of your videos but you’re advocating a $40.00 bag purchase when a wise person could buy a few yards of canvas from Walmart and make that bag for about $10-$15.00 including needle thread and a few snaps……. I like making or transforming my gear but in an emergency I would use the leg of my pants before I would part with $40.00 to strain water…. Sorry just pointing something out…..
Sorry, but your way of wetting the bag is rubbish! You're getting dirt all over the outside of the bag, so your strained water won't be as clean as it would've been if you hadn't stirred up all the mud.
I don't get tired of this series.
Outstanding, solid content as always.
Thank you!

Looks perfect for the Stanley. As a prefilter is awesome. You could also use it as a forage bag
Indeed, my friend. Thank you for watching!

👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Many uses for sure! Thank you for watching!
One of my pouch pockets is just a bag pocket lol, sandwich ziplocks, fabric ones for forage/filtering, bags are handy outdoors 👍
I love my Blackbird Multi Bag. Dan Lutz and Blackie Thomas have got some great gear for real! 👌🤠👍
Indeed, they do. Thank you for watching!

I need one!

Solid idea, James. You certainly can't boil away sticks!
Right? Thank you for watching!
Looks very good James. Nice system. Thanks and take care.
Thank you so much, my friend!
Thank you for this excellent video! I am convinced that canvas offers many advantages wrt water-handling. I will be using more canvas going forward.
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
Great review and idea for the Blackbird. Might get one but kind of expensive. I'm using an old Fieldline hunting pouch for my Stanley that allows for extra room for plastic water bottle and more, including a thick cotton bag form some fancy grits.
Those are good options as well. Thank you for watching!
Looks like your bulking up James lol, never would have guessed you knew Blackie he seems like a real good guy
Indeed. Thank you for watching!
It’s would make a nice foraging bag.
Very much so.
I don't know if Stanley is sponsoring you. If they aren't, they need to!! Thanks for another awesome video sir! God bless!
They aren't, but thank you for watching and God bless you too!
Cool setup!
Thank you!
Getting one of those for my next bike packing trip. Great series! Thanks!
Thank you for watching.
Would have never thought of using it that way. Darn good hack! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
It's a good price of kit . I watched the vid when blackie designed it . I'd also like to get his blackbird haver sack . Great vid as always

Thank you so much, my friend! It is truly a great piece of kit!
Folds up...
Maybe use a secondary one to pack out the cookset, gives you a spare filter/forage pouch, firestarting collection etc.
Yes, it is so compact and versatile that having two would be even better!
As soon as you said Untreated Canvas I knew what was coming. I have a Milbank bag in my pack but that bag I absolutely brilliant! Love it.

That's a good idea. Thank you for watching!
That would support my suggestion of a loop to hang while using
Great hack
Thanks!
nice bag
Yes it is. Thank you for watching.
Old Blackie had a good idea on this.
Indeed he did! Thank you for watching!
Great content. Thank you for sharing knowledge 👍🇺🇸
Thank you for watching!
This is what we call a millbank bag. Old technology still hard at work.
Indeed, thanks for watching!
This is like the old British Mil-Bank Bag they used to use during WW-II
True!
Good tip , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thank you, my friend and God bless you too!
Great multipurpose bag, may he RIP.
Indeed. He was a true friend!
The bag is great. I keep mine empty to scavenge, gather tinder, or wild edibles. I use a mill bag to prefilter so I dont contaminate my food.
Indeed. Thanks for watching!
Sorry to bother you. The link you had for this product does not seem to be correct anymore. Do you have an updated one? I really enjoy these hacks.
Yes, my friend Dan passed away last year. However, you can still get this product through Blackie Thomas and his UA-cam channel.
Sorry for your loss. Thank for your reply. I have seen some of Blackie's videos too. I appreciate your assistance. I really enjoy the hacks you post!
Great idea. I would use a bleach solution in bag after using in the field to kill any bacteria trapped in bag pores.
That's a good idea, my friend! Thanks for watching, as always!
Or boil it when you get home- the bleach will attack the canvas. But... Boiling probably isn't so good for the waxed canvas... Buy your ticket, take your chances.
@@tenchraven good point thanks
Is the bag large enough to fit with Pack Stove XL on the cookset?
Yes it is. Thank you for watching!
Huh. And here i am using a crown royal bag i got from my dad.
Thank you for watching.
I have some ex army canvas filter bags they maybe even WW 2 they work on the same principle but you can't carry your stove in them
Excellent!
rolly polly i use the maxpedition
Excellent. I also use the maxpedition pouch on my backpack. I've had it for quite a few years.
This video is missing from the Stanley 2 cup cook set playlist, btw
Thanks for letting me know.
❤️
Thank you!
Curious question...
Are you associated with the pathfinder school?
No, I'm not. Thank you for watching!
I'd just assume use it as a potholder, rather than a filter.
It works for that also.
HEY JAMES,COULD I USE A OLD CARHARTT JACKET WITH THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE BAG AND MAKE ONE FOR A FRACTION OF THE PRICE?
Sure you could. But, Dan is a great guy and I like supporting him and his family and this is a great way to do that. Thank you for watching!
I would suggest turning the bag inside out, that way all the dirt, leaves, ect., would not be inside the bag when you put everything back into it.
Good idea. Thanks for watching.
Can I suggest a loop of cord on one top corner so that the bag can be hung from a corner, rather than having to hold it while using....
Good idea, thank you for watching!
I see what you mean if th want a drip filter. But it looked to me that he was squeezing bag to force water through.
I'm new to your channel. I loved the filtering idea ! But I'm wondering why you said its $37 and the website says its $38. Also, you really should make a new video, showing the new design of this bag, without waxed lid; otherwise it's just misleading.
The price has changed like everything else these days and I don't have the new unwaxed version. Thank you for watching.
Be fifty soon
The abnormal outdoors domain is for sale. 3/10/24
The owner, my friend, Dan Lutz, passed away during covid.
@@WayPointSurvival *hugs* I am so very sorry for your loss
Thanks so much! He was a truly great guy and I miss him a lot!
💯👍🍻😎🇺🇸
Thank you!
Bag is a little pricy
Thank you for watching.
@@WayPointSurvival i love your vdo i am building a flint lock now. Ty
