While others are reviewing expensive and elaborate survival items, James is going full hobo and turning everyday items into hobo camping gear. Another superlative video!
Thanks for the kind words!
James helps people buy cheap spam tins rather than pricey mess tins.
I love simplicity. Thank you. My hobo friend, as a child, would have loved you Jim. I have spam cans. I will buy some sardines soon.
I am 72 years old and have seen a lot of stuff. You, sir, continue to amaze and teach me. Well, done.
Wow, thanks!
He's fab..🫡
Early 70s here, too. And we're never too old to learn something new.
Yeah, he sure does amaze me too, and I am 75!
Really appreciate the ability to repurpose common items into something useful and reliable.
Glad you like it!
And another fine example of why I say your the KING of DIY camp craft . Awesome video sir
Thanks so very much for the kind words and I'm glad that you enjoyed the video!
I said this before I hope this series never ends it is excellent
Thanks!
Former 50 of 74 years a hobo. WOW !!! Great improvisation. I will add the herring fry pan, the spam boil cup, and small grill to my nest of tin can cooking set. Make a feast fit for a king should I go back on the road.
Sounds great!
Your Hobo series are fantastic, thank you.
You're very welcome!
I have been searching high and low for lightweight cooking gear. This is just too cool, man.
Glad I could help!
This is pretty neat. You should cook the bacon first then use the bacon grease for the eggs! Extra flavor.
Whoa COOL!!!! that would be so cool to get a chance to eat 🥚 egg on bacon 🥓 grease 😋 yum
Absolutely! However I wanted to use both pans for cooking in the video.
Make sure you get the fattiest bacon you can, though- bacon is getting leaner. Maybe to be "healthier" (it's bacon, what a silly notion) or to improve profits as it takes time to pork up a pig. Otherwise you've got the issues with the pan getting dry, and the lining getting funny.
@@WayPointSurvivalthis way you get double the butter fried bacon! Do both pans with bacon first, the 1 egg in each pan for better bacon flavor!
.....And it’s a keto-friendly meal👍
In Boy Scouts we made our own cook kit for a Metal Worker merit badge. Good show.
Thanks!
Go smacked am I James. Once again you cracked an original.
Same with Girl Scouts Outdoor Cooking badge. Good Ol' Hobo Stove & Buddy Burner.
Great idea! Our resident bushcraft MacGyver!
Thanks so much!
Very creative. I much prefer your own original content rather than being a salesman. Don't let others ride your lightning. To thy ownself be true.
Well, it helps pay the bills!
@@WayPointSurvival , I understand. I still think Stanley should hire you for their R & D department.
One of your best!!! Great engineering! Keep up the great videos!!
@@branch_preparednesswe don’t want to lose him!
*Thine
My oldest Grandson is really into your video's. You make things the primitive way, he really rags me about it. I told him, I spent a lifetime getting all these tools together, that if you are lucky one day will be yours and I intend to use them as God wanted me too. lol.
Good one!
My daughter homeschools. I love sharing this stuff with my grandsons. You sir are incredible with these simple good ideas!
Awesome! Thank you!
His channel just keeps getting better and better the creativity is off the charts and it takes quite a bit to impress me And I’m a crotchety old bugger
Thanks so very much!
We went to the hobo convention in Britt IA couple of weeks ago. We had a blast at the hobo museum. Met some nice folks.
At the memorial for Shoestring, quite a few folks shared experiences, adventures and stories about him. His two sisters and son spoke, too.
A great time.
Very nice. I wish I could have been there.
Yep this is 100% a kit i am putting on the motorcycle !! thanks for this man I don't know why i didn't think of that heh.
I'm glad you liked it!
Wow awesome little project!!! Perfect for a light carry addition to a minimal belt set up!!❤
Definitely!
I love your ingenuity. I think the most important takeaway thing to take away from this video is not the exact cans to use but the mindset and skill set to come up with projects line that and find materials that can be converted into useful things
Absolutely!
Der beste Kanal für Überleben und Flucht auf UA-cam, bezogen auf die Realität. Danke !
Thanks so much!
Reminds me of my boyhood, reading Boys Life, making tuna can spooled up corregated cardboard and parrifin wax stoves. Thanks, James, you put a smile on my face.
Love that!
This is actually really handy. Thanks for the guide, will come great when camping and not carry much weight, real survival knowledge
Glad it was helpful!
Always tinkering and tampering with things is the true SPIRIT ✊️🔥✌️💚
Indeed!
I loved the original cook kit but knew I would never find one here in England . This kit you made is super impressive and I love that you are using cans that can be found in every country worldwide . Fantastic video 👍
Thanks so much!
I really like these diy cook kits and other things you have made
Thanks!
James, amazing! I’ve always felt those big sardine cans would make a good, small frying pan but to make it a whole set? Awesome!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Handy in the garage too!
That sir, is super cool! Handy, cheap to make and very practical.
Yes indeed!
James my friend...the astronauts can certainly use your creativity to get them home!!! You simply are the best! Thank you and take...Robin
Thanks so much, my friend! I wish I could figure a way to get them home!
A very cool DIY kit. I love this Hobo series, I watch every single one of them. I recently have been working on a survival kit based on a stainless steel Bento Box with locking clips. I am the type of person to look at something for a week figuring out new ways to use it and you have inspired a lot of ideas.
Very cool!
That looks like something made in a factory. Outstanding I'm going to put one together. So cool.
Glad you liked it!
It's the paint. Grill paint makes everything look cooler.
One of your better videos. Great job. Thanks. If I may add, you won't always have butter. So cook the bacon first, remove and then cook the eggs in the fat from the bacon. Been doing that for years in a skillet at home. No loss of bacon grease.
Yes, I could have done that, but I wanted to use both pans for the video.
@@WayPointSurvival Was saying not too. LOL... But again, glad you made this video.
"Some" butter....Paula Dean does bushcraft! 🤣🤣🤣. Too cool!
Thanks for watching!
She'd use half a pound for those eggs. 😂😂
I cooked my breakfast while watching your video .. not on a fire though!😁
Love that!
James, Who Knew: SPAM Could Be So Useful. I'm Absolutely Amazed At All Your Life Hacks and Your Willingness To Share Them! Thank You and God Bless My Friend.
Much appreciated and God bless you too!
Yay, back to our regular programming. Extremely creative and useful! Better yet, I have everything needed on hand to duplicate. Believe it or not, the little folding grill impressed me the most. I'll be making a similar one for sure. Great video for sure! 🤓👍
Thanks so much!
I always added black pepper to the scrambled eggs when we’d take our children camping, it helped camouflage any insects that may have accidentally gotten into the pan 😉 It’s a trick I learned from my dad.
Great idea!
James I have often thought how robust those cans are and your cook set is a perfect solution to use them instead of just throwing in the trash, I think it's one of the best hacks with tin cans you have done.. thanks from the UK.
Wow! Not sure what else I can say. Turning trash into something useful. Helping us save money, save the planet, and be better people. I am not sure where you get your ideas, but what you do reminds me of my Great Aunt & Uncle. I guess because they grew up in the depression they saved and used everything. We did not visit them often, but I do remember seeing some amazing things every time I went there. Makes me sad that we take for granted our elders. Wish I had more time with them, the things I could have learned. I am amazed at what you come up/show. If more people thought like that instead of just being consumers, the planet, as well as humans, would be better off.
My hat is off to you. Thank you for educating us. Please keep it up. It is so refreshing to see someone talk about something that is possible and then show exactly how to do it. Then after doing it, show themselves using what they made and how well it works.
I love WayPointSurvival videos! Thank you for caring and sharing.
Thanks so much!
The butter is nice, if you aren’t cooking bacon. Simply putting the bacon into an ungreased pan works fine; it will render out the fat. That bacon grease works wonderfully to cook eggs in.
I paddle and camp with some other Golden Geezers who might be interested in your design.
Good work, James. Thanks!
Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Absolutely. However, I was wanting to use both pans in the video, so I just went with the butter.
While it's definitely the easier option to just buy a cheap mess tin (during the summer months you can get dirt cheap sets) - I won't deny this has to be one or the most insanely resourceful videos I've seen.
Absolutely incredible you could cook and eat like that just by repurposing scrap materials - great work!
very well done sir hope this video goes viral for you !!
I hope so too! Thanks for watching!
79, Canadian still truck bed camping. =Sir, you just taught me a new skill I shall build and pass on to a younger one.
Thanks for watching!
This little cook kit looks better than the ones you can by commercially
Thanks!
this man thinking with 100% of his brain , this is smart and I like it
Ok waypoint, I've sat back, I've watched, I've commented a bit. Now, u officially have my attention. What u just described is an awesome, inexpensive mess kit that could be used in disaster scenarios.... Bravo, finally, something that a common man can afford to keep his family fed. Keep it up. From one historical survivalist to another.... Well done. Doc
Also, I'm currently watching ur hobo first aid kit video while I write this ..... I'm an eagle scout and vigil honor member. My stepfather is an eagle and also a vigil honor member, and my brother is an eagle as well..... Id kill to have that first aid kit! Keep it up, Doc
Thank you so very much! I really appreciate all the kind words and I hope that this is definitely used not only by campers but also by people who are in need.
@@WayPointSurvival let me put something in perspective for ya. The reason my name is doc is because I'm an EMT by trade.... But also, living in SC we have a rich history that is beginning to be forgotten. You're preserving these traditions and this knowledge is of great importance for future generations. When I was homeless, I had to survive, I did it because I knew how, taught to me in scouting. The younger generations need guidance because the world isn't always kind and as my youngest son will tell you, " you survive by being comfortable with being uncomfortable" I would implore you to continue this series with diy's that others can do at home because it only takes one misstep in this world to end up where I was.
I was wondering if there was a modern Stopplekit out there. This is even better, using common items to make one. Thanks for making this one.
You're very welcome!
What a nice little cook kit. You cooking the bacon in the pans on the grill did it. I do something nasty when camping when the guys want to stay in the beds. Get a fire going , put a grill over it and then a coffee pot to start perking. While the pot is going I add bacon to the grill and cook it over the hot coals. Letting the drippings hit the hot coals. With the cool air of the morning and the smell of perking coffee along with the Bacon no one wants to stay in bed. Who says you can't have fun ( at your partners expense ) when camping.
Right! Good one!
I want to go camping with you, I'd love to wake up and have the fire going, coffee ready, hot bacon! 🤣🤣🤣
This was a really cool video. I know you can used stuff like spam cans to boil water but actually making used items like that in to a functioning kit takes ingenuity.
Thanks!
James, fantastic job on this cookset
Thanks so much!
This is one of the neatest, lightweight cooking kits I've ever seen that beats some commercial kits to nothing. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Wow, thanks!
Absolute genius
Thanks for the kind word!
More evidence that hobos had to exercise creativity and you, sir, get an A+ for creative genius ❤
Thanks so much!
Always creative items at little or no costs. Great video.
Thanks!
Genius, simple genius. I love it.:)
Wow, thanks!
I love the HOBO series!! Cheers to you James!!
Thanks so much!
Your videos are reminiscent of my youth. We made all of our own stuff like that for camping.
Thanks for watching!
@@WayPointSurvival It was as always, my pleasure.
Very nice. This would be great for bikepacking. My wife and I love watching all your videos.
Thanks so much!
Super job crafting. As with all the Hobo's, necessity is the mother of Invention.
Indeed!
Pure genius, just like the entire hobo series!
Thanks!
I get such a kick out of your DIY projects. They keep me busy.
Thanks!
I'll use a ranger band in place of the leather belt
That would work well too!
Little bit of this, little bit of that... couple of cuts, bends blended in with some effort and thought.. and voila! Well done, sir.
Thank you very much!
Best video yet, loved this build
Wow, thanks!
.... another man's treasure! well done, James! thank you.
You're welcome!
Great video.
Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
That's a genius setup buddy..Glad I'm subscribed to this channel!
Thanks so very much!
Great project and a good way to go from trash to treasure.
Yes! Thank you!
I am very thankful for these improved tips. It keeps my mind thinking on how to do things better or cheaper.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks! Very sweet idea.
You are so welcome and thanks so very much for the support, it is truly appreciated!
Thanks for paying thanks to the Lord, that's one of my favorite things to see in your videos.
Good ideas with the handles and makeshift grills.
Thanks so much!
🇺🇸🙋♀️ Very inventive! Love it! ❤
Thanks!
Clever! Ideas like this are a great inspiration and educational. And people think "recycling" is something relatively new. Our ancestors were doing things like this long before we got here. "Do more with less" was a way of life with them, and we modern folks would do well to learn (actually, re-learn) this philosophy.
Indeed!
👍
Really, really well done! So well thought out and cleverly constructed, and basically free, since you would eat the food from the containers it is made from. When it starts getting damaged, or worn, just have some more Spam or Herring and replace it! I really appreciate the practical and adaptive nature of your videos. So smart and reminiscent of the clever and frugal mindset of the turn of the century (20th 🙂) where nothing is wasted. I don't think my Grandpa would ever throw anything away, and a straightened nail is just as good as a new one.
Thanks so much!
I'm speechless! This one is one of your extremly good videos. I found these spam and hering cans here in Germany as well, and I'm thinking of giving your diy hobo cook set construction a try. Only question is where i can find these heat resistent paint in my local construction centers. Am I correct to search for a spray paint, or did you brush it with a liquit one?
Try automotive paint suppliers.
It's a spray paint for grills and barbecues.
@@WayPointSurvival thank you
@@Pygar2 thank you
@@WayPointSurvival Thank you Mr. Bender. By the way: Blackie Thomas just gave you credit on his new video "Ground Pounder: Ultimate Cook Sets for Bug Out Bags & Military Surplus Camping" at 21:17 Please do me a favour if you check his video out and comment it, to leave him my best regards (River Bank Viking) Thank so much you
Neat little system you made there good idea for sure.
Thanks!
One word: Brilliant!
A while ago I made a homemade wood-gas stove with a tin of apple juice and a tin of tomatoes. This will go along perfectly with it.
You've got a new subscriber. Thank you.
I'm glad that you like the video and welcome aboard!
I have done lots of metal work and DIY. I have made a few of your practical survival tools. I really appreciate your ingenuity and use of readily available items. Thanks for your great ideas!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely love the fact you chose items that anyone could get for cheap if not free! Amazing job brotherman! Thank you so much for this video.
Glad you like it!
He’s such a happy go lucky teacher 😂
Thanks for watching!
This deserves a million views!
I hope so!
all right boys and girls, its time for hobo arts and crafts. love this I've already made one. i didn't have access to just the wire hanger so I used a plastic-coated hanger. I figured it will burn off the ends and I can always upgrade my handles. I even found a little spoon at the store to go with it. can't wait to try this during my camping vacation next month.
Awesome!
This is a handy and cheap way to store and cook on the go. 👏😊
I totally agree!
I really love these projects ive made dang near all of them they are very creative snd cool im lovin this hobo series keep up the great work james
Thanks so very much!
That is a very slick setup
Thanks!
Very cool ! Back in the 70s we would make hobo stoves out of 5 gallon metal paint cans , often used for camp stoves! A trick my father taught us from the depression 🤔😎! I’ve cooked a ton of meals on them !
Excellent!
Dadgummit, James, I have FAR tooany coolsets already, now I have to come up with an excuse to tell my daughter about why Dad's making yet another 😂😂 LOVE THIS! Thank you, good sir! God bless, brother!
You're very welcome and God bless you too! Have fun!
Wow! Mind Blown! This is great
Thanks!
I was hoping you would film how you cleaned them. I've only camped a few times but I live near the woods and lose power for days at a time during stormy weather. During those days, I'm living without amenities. I love watching your videos, but as a woman, I think about how you keep these things clean! Many thanks for your content. I hope you make a video on how to wash your pots, your hands, etc. while packing light.
Thanks so much for watching and for the suggestion! To clean this I just simply used a scrub pad and dish soap. The real key is to use enough grease or oil so that your food doesn't stick and burn to the bottom of the pan. It's better to have it a little underdone then to have it burnt and crispy to the bottom.
Like the hobo aesthetic of DYI on low budget. It’s really amazing how little we really need for solo cooking. Years ago I went down the canteen cup and stove rabbit hole. I like stuff that nests like Russian dolls.
Indeed!
Nice cook kit, very inventive.
Thanks!
I didnt notice the DIY in the description under your thumbnail. I was pleasantly surprised to see that you were making a kit. I love to repurpose items and this was impressive! I appreciate all of the time and effort that you put in to your presentations. Great job, Jim!
Thanks so much!
I'm going to make a set like that
Great!
James, I have every Item you have shown to make this cook set, this is what I love about your videos, this is so practical, I am going to make this thank you and God Bless you my friend 😺
Thank you so very much and God bless you too!
That's a great idea. You just gave me another project to teach my grandkids. Thank you for that. Keep up the good work and God bless you and your family.
I'm glad that you are enjoying the videos and finding time with the grandkids. May God bless you and yours as well!
Great idea thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Clever people who invented these things. Nice to see that it works. Great video again.
Thanks!
Nice cookset. I want my eggs sunny side up though but to each his own.
Great video.
Thanks!
Ok now I have another rainy day project. Thank you James!
You're welcome!
3:20 facts! Always carry a nail! So many uses that you won’t even know till you need it.
Right!
