      Make sure you get the fattiest bacon you can, though- bacon is getting leaner. Maybe to be "healthier" (it's bacon, what a silly notion) or to improve profits as it takes time to pork up a pig. Otherwise you've got the issues with the pan getting dry, and the lining getting funny.

    @jaybakata5566 17 днів тому +1

    Wow! Not sure what else I can say. Turning trash into something useful. Helping us save money, save the planet, and be better people. I am not sure where you get your ideas, but what you do reminds me of my Great Aunt & Uncle. I guess because they grew up in the depression they saved and used everything. We did not visit them often, but I do remember seeing some amazing things every time I went there. Makes me sad that we take for granted our elders. Wish I had more time with them, the things I could have learned. I am amazed at what you come up/show. If more people thought like that instead of just being consumers, the planet, as well as humans, would be better off.
    My hat is off to you. Thank you for educating us. Please keep it up. It is so refreshing to see someone talk about something that is possible and then show exactly how to do it. Then after doing it, show themselves using what they made and how well it works.
    I love WayPointSurvival videos! Thank you for caring and sharing.

    The butter is nice, if you aren’t cooking bacon. Simply putting the bacon into an ungreased pan works fine; it will render out the fat. That bacon grease works wonderfully to cook eggs in.
    I paddle and camp with some other Golden Geezers who might be interested in your design.

      @@WayPointSurvival let me put something in perspective for ya. The reason my name is doc is because I'm an EMT by trade.... But also, living in SC we have a rich history that is beginning to be forgotten. You're preserving these traditions and this knowledge is of great importance for future generations. When I was homeless, I had to survive, I did it because I knew how, taught to me in scouting. The younger generations need guidance because the world isn't always kind and as my youngest son will tell you, " you survive by being comfortable with being uncomfortable" I would implore you to continue this series with diy's that others can do at home because it only takes one misstep in this world to end up where I was.

    What a nice little cook kit. You cooking the bacon in the pans on the grill did it. I do something nasty when camping when the guys want to stay in the beds. Get a fire going , put a grill over it and then a coffee pot to start perking. While the pot is going I add bacon to the grill and cook it over the hot coals. Letting the drippings hit the hot coals. With the cool air of the morning and the smell of perking coffee along with the Bacon no one wants to stay in bed. Who says you can't have fun ( at your partners expense ) when camping.

    I have done lots of metal work and DIY. I have made a few of your practical survival tools. I really appreciate your ingenuity and use of readily available items. Thanks for your great ideas!!

    all right boys and girls, its time for hobo arts and crafts. love this I've already made one. i didn't have access to just the wire hanger so I used a plastic-coated hanger. I figured it will burn off the ends and I can always upgrade my handles. I even found a little spoon at the store to go with it. can't wait to try this during my camping vacation next month.

    Very cool ! Back in the 70s we would make hobo stoves out of 5 gallon metal paint cans , often used for camp stoves! A trick my father taught us from the depression 🤔😎! I’ve cooked a ton of meals on them !

    I was hoping you would film how you cleaned them. I've only camped a few times but I live near the woods and lose power for days at a time during stormy weather. During those days, I'm living without amenities. I love watching your videos, but as a woman, I think about how you keep these things clean! Many thanks for your content. I hope you make a video on how to wash your pots, your hands, etc. while packing light.

      Thanks so much for watching and for the suggestion! To clean this I just simply used a scrub pad and dish soap. The real key is to use enough grease or oil so that your food doesn't stick and burn to the bottom of the pan. It's better to have it a little underdone then to have it burnt and crispy to the bottom.

    Like the hobo aesthetic of DYI on low budget. It’s really amazing how little we really need for solo cooking. Years ago I went down the canteen cup and stove rabbit hole. I like stuff that nests like Russian dolls.
