Hi Gatewood. I got hooked on your videos a couple of months ago. I’m from a small town in the Easter cape - South Africa called Port Alfred. Beautiful place with many rivers and estuaries within 30 minutes drive. I currently use a wilderness system Atak 140 which I’ve done plenty of mods on. My 7 year old daughter and I normally kayak at least 3 times a month on a Saturday. We have watched your videos a lot more than a couple of times and Texas looks great. I have plenty of pics but no edited videos. Maybe one day you and some friends should come this side and I would happily be your tour guide. Anyway thanks for the awesome videos. I always feel uplifted and excited for my next kayaking adventure after watching your videos. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey guy! I’ll definitely check out the Easter Cape on Google maps. Seems intriguing! One day I’d love to take the paddling global. I’d really hope to do that sooner than later and ZA looks azing

Thanks my man! We have a TON of springfed streams in a region called the Hill Country. Lots of limestone and a lack of sediment makes for some great clarity. I'm going to keep trying to hit different ones because they're all so unique.
If you got from Seven Bluff crossing and go to Frio country. There is a real calm area that has houses on the left. Right before that the springs are really.noticable. We used to drink from the springs there. The water is deep there. The Frio in my family is such a special place.
If you go on majors a little ways down there’s these cool rocky area that forms little pools of water it’s a perfect place to have lunch and if you go down even further there’s this giant area to relax or play around

Griffin Cummings Hmm, Ive fine this exact route and took 2nights 3 days. So its all about how much ground you want to cover. During summer we take swim breaks more. Here the river was flowing strong so we did the distance pretty quick.

Would highly recommend taking a river skills lesson from a certified instructor and always wearing a life jacket zipped & snug. When you need it, you don’t want to fumble around trying to get it snugged up. Almost all drownings occur from lack of secure life jacket. Loved the enthusiasm in your video! So many fun rivers in Texas! Thanks for sharing.
Life jackets are a must for sure!
What an exciting video. Great music, great footage, great adventure. We will make it out to the Frio some day soon. Thanks y'all, you Rock
Thank you TFC! We had a blast on this trip so thank you so much for tuning in! The Frio is special for sure, but right now flows are way down so it’s not worth a trip right. Hopefully soon though
Never realized the Frio was so beautiful! Thank you!!
The Frio is incredible! It’s heaven on earth
The undertow at the little waterfall can be gnarly! Definitely thought he was going under!!!
Cameras never do that rapid justice, it was hairy!! I’m glad he got flushed out soon after entering the hole
Wow. I'm really glad I found this channel. Awesome video. Awesome music. I love videos like this. Your passion for the outdoors is very prevalent and inspires me to get out there and explore and adventure more than I already do. Vids like this just keep my hunger for the outdoors alive and thriving. I've been backpacking for a few years now but want to try a kayak camping trip. I'm so appreciative of the endless beauty our state has to offer.
"With the right mindset and a willingness to adventure, just have to go for it"
Only true outdoor enthusiasts say or understand that.
Thanks. I just subscribed.
Thank you Cody! I also find inspiration from other creators so it’s cool these videos have that same effect
It sure is. I can attest to that. It's so beautiful and fun !
You’re spot on! One of Texas’ gems
This is my idea of a perfect vacation.
The Frio is always a treat
The Frio is always a treat
Bennett Brown, the baddest fiddle player in all the land! Awesome video, this is on my bucket list!
He's raw on the fiddle and just as good at running rapids! I'm definitely lucky to have him in the crew
Excited to see your 2019 adventures. This place looks epic!
The hill country is special for sure! Recently filmed another river so I'll start on that video soon as well. Thanks for watching!
The Frio is awesome. I’m partial to the Blanco because of my aunt living across the street from it . You can’t beat the hill country rivers.
If the Blanco flowed better I’d hit it up a lot more!
Gatewood Brown The only time the Blanco flows good is when it floods! I’ve seen some crazy flash floods on the Blanco. I saw a truck stuck up in a tree over near Fischer years ago. Last flood it wiped out the bridge near my Aunt’s in Wimberly.
Blake Watson that is wild! Yeah those hill country rivers sure can get gnarly real quick.
The camera work and the songs in this video are amazing! I knkw this was a year ago but that was a amazing video!
Thank you so much! Yeah it was about 8 months ago but hopefully we can go back soon. Such a cool place
I'm a YACKER down in Alabama ! I love the cossa River in Wetumpka Al. I love kayaking anywhere! You guys rock ! I will be planning a trip with the Hubs to do this. Maybe a couple of friends too. This is beautiful !
Cheers to that! Alabama, and especially northern Alabama is on my short list to check out! Make sure to watch flow rates, our rivers are skinny most of the time
Great video! Looks like a pretty awesome trip through one of the most beautiful areas in Texas.
Thanks for the kind words! Gosh, I'm always amazed by the landscapes out there. Unreal!
Nice editing Sir. Thanks for taking us along.
The Hill Country speaks to my soul so very much.
The hill country is great! When it gets rain…lol
Dude I don't know how you do it, but you just keep upping your game man. Some incredible editing and another awesome location. I had no idea TX had this many spring fed rivers. Looked like an amazing trip from start to finish! Keep on keeping on Brother!
Thanks my man! We have a TON of springfed streams in a region called the Hill Country. Lots of limestone and a lack of sediment makes for some great clarity. I'm going to keep trying to hit different ones because they're all so unique.
Thumbs up for Trampled by Turtles.
My family pioneered the Frio area. It’s a beautiful place.
That is so cool! Thanks for sharing, they found a wonderful place for sure.
Hi from Europe. Great vid, great river, great trip. Amazing content. Love it.
Thank you petr!
That water is running very nicely!! Love this place
It was pumping on this trip!
I being to Frío a few times, I have never seen that spring 😩 looking forward to go this summer too ❤️ great video!!!
Thank you for the kind words! The Frio is quite special, glad to hear you’ll be going out there this summer!
@@yaboicorndog8943 Thanks for the recommendation! Mager's crossing is one of our favorite sections of the river. Views of Old Baldy and more private away from the crowds
That spring is at the store formerly known as Johnnys. She since changed the name. Unfortunately with so many people visiting this area she now charges to get out of the river at this point
Monster waterfall. Lol. You had me for a bit. Looks like so much fun
It's bigger than what we are used to!
@GatewoodBrown Oh. Sorry, I thought you were making a joke. My bad man. Safety first always. It was a great video still.
The Frio river is the best! I live only 20 minutes away from there🙃
Ahh that’s amazing!
Where? Uvalde?
Keep on feeding your soul. Sending you so much love and blessings 🙏😘❤️
Thank you GC! Good vibes to you as well
So where would you recommend putting in and getting out for a 3 day 2 night trip?
Griffin Cummings Hmm, Ive fine this exact route and took 2nights 3 days. So its all about how much ground you want to cover. During summer we take swim breaks more. Here the river was flowing strong so we did the distance pretty quick.
I'm not even into kayaking but the quality of your videos sold me. You should take a trip up here to WA State and run some of our rivers. When I was a kid, I went on a road trip to Yellowstone with my grandparents. We went down to Jackson hole and rafted the Snake River. I can remember being the only one in the boat excited when we hit the white water. Got to respect the river and it's power.
Thank you! That’s the ultimate compliment. Going to the pacific NW is a dream. You all have so many amazing places!
Love this river content. Texas Rivers are amazing. Def subbing.
The Green Life I appreciate that my man! We are spoiled for sure, such a beautiful place
There are a handful that are nice like this. Most are brown and disgusting. Talk about a diamond in the rough XD
Kade Broussard you’re looking in the wrong places! Texas hill country water mostly looks like this my man
Kade Broussard Texas Hill Country has a lot of rivers like this but those brown rivers in East Texas are pretty in their own way. Big fish and awesome trees
So jealous how beautiful and clear did it look wow 👍
It’s stunning out there! Looks fake sometimes
I would love to do this rout ! Where do y’all park and launch from and end ?? Also what’s the best time of year to go to this rout ? 😊 also great video 👍🏼
It’s out near concan! Anytime of year after it rains is good for kayaking. Otherwise you’ll be dragging a lot
Google frio river flow rate. 50 cfm+ is ok
Could you tell me what date you did this river trip? I'd like to look up the flowrate for that day and watch the USGS gauge this fall.
This was at 350cfs. It was pumping, and sustained!
You should do the San Marcos and start out at the headwaters :)
Karen Schultz that would be a great paddle! Will have to get out there one morning before all the tubers crowd in haha
This video is very inspiring and extremely well done, nice work great adventure!
Thank you so much! In a place that beautiful it felt easy to capture such wonderful scenes. Fingers crossed it rains so we can get back out there!
What an awesome trip! Where did y'all put in and take out?
Thanks my man! We had a blast and out in around Concan
I loved this video! Great job making it and sharing it for all of us!
I appreciate the kind words! Judy’s stoked to see so many people tuning into it. Wild!
I wish I had friends to do this with 😥
Check out your local paddling groups on Facebook!
Yeah I know. Mine are a bunch of pussies.
Let's become river kayaking friends 🤣
I never get tired of watching this video.
I will make it there one day!
Thank you so much! The Frio is special for sure
I've fished the frio b4.... just looked for fish from the cliffs and dropped a hook on them....easiest grilled catfish ever
Dang you're making me hungry! I'm starting to bring a pole on my trips. Still need to learn how to use it lol
Learned to swim in the Frio 20 years ago.. Great video! Thanks for taking me back.
That’s a nice river to learn swimming in! The clarity is basically swimming pool like and the views are to die for.
"It's way too cold out to swim"
Proceeds to kayak with shirt off and no bibs through class 2 rapids
Haha when the stoke is high sometimes ya gotta risk it for the biscuit! Lol fortunately the rapids were so much fun we quickly forgot about the cold, until the sun set
My nipples were chaffing just watching lol
Sign me up,! Good morning , America the Beautiful ☀️ I was amazed to see how much gear you were packing. I would have never guessed u can put that much stuff on kayak. Great video. Great commentary
You’re spot on, America the beautiful! We have such diverse terrain. Kayaks can hold quite a bit but they do get harder to handle with each additional pound. We try to pack lighter these days
That water looked chilly. Texas isn't short on beautiful spots to kayak.
All Things Outdoors it wasn’t warm! Tipping over was far from ideal. Every trip I’m more and more impressed with the landscape. Australia is insanely beautiful, I need to make it down there sometime
Well you're welcome here anytime.
All Things Outdoors I appreciate that Justin!
I need more friends like this that want to explore and kayak!
I’ve only kayaked once in posmo beach and now this video has pushed me to buying my own! Great video man!
That’s so rad! Honestly rivers with elevation change can be a complete blast
Wow! We've always wanted to explore the Frio but never have. Beautiful vid! Thanks for the tour!
It’s such a cool region! Thanks for the kind words
Same. Still on our list of places to visit and go Kayaking!
Super! Looks like so much fun!
It was an absolute blast! Just wish it was still this full of water. Summers are tough on the flow rate
Texas should be its own country! God bless Texas!
Haha if things keep getting crazy then why not!
great vid and great edit
Thank you Carlos!
Great video work guys....thanks so much.....loved every second....🤗🤗🤗
James Franke thanks, James. I’m glad you stopped by to watch the whole thing. We had fun making it!
This is beautiful can't wait to go dive the frio.
There should be some good stuff! O floods yet this year
@@GatewoodBrown Planning on going soon
I spent memorial day weekend camping on the Frio, the water is low but it was gorgeous!
That sounds about right! Fortunately even at low levels the Frio is gorgeous
Check out some of the rivers in Missouri, the current for one, and the springs that feed it are amazing, crystal clear water, and beautiful forests.
I definitely Will! Missouri looks amazing for paddling and exploration
Sweet video. I've kayaked & fished the frio river near Concan, clearest river I've ever fished.
The water is insanely clear out there. Almost looks fake to be honest
Gatewood Brown Do any fishing? I’ve caught some nice bass out there. Was this during the fall/winter?
I’m getting into it and learning the ropes. More fishing is to be expected in upcoming videos! We love a good fresh fish taco for sure
I love the frio, we tubed it a few years ago, but it was really low. But crystal clear and beautiful.
Yeah the flows have been very low for a couple years now
Love your video's you have a great spirit that comes through, good to see Texas boy's doing it right 😎😎😎
Thanks tony! Yessir, we Texas boys have a lot to explore and be thankful for.
Trampled By Turtles is such a perfect background selection, paddle on!
They really are! Wish I could use more copyrighted music but unfortunately I can’t anymore
I want to start kayaking further down south like where you are at but looking for more info on these rivers??
Best tool is google maps. Find low bridge crossings and map out sections between them
Thanks for the beautiful video. I grew up in Texas and we camped on the Frio several times a year. Until we discovered the nearby Nueces anyway. :)
That’s so awesome to connect with fellow campers of our Texas rivers! I still haven’t done the nueces. Can’t wait to do it though
@@GatewoodBrown The Nueces has a bit more flow than the Frio, but otherwise similar. There's a private park called Chalk Bluff that's pretty cool like Garner. Looking forward to more vids. I'm an Austin TX expat living in Oregon. Moved up here long ago for the fabulous kayaking and other outdoor activities.
@@brentbolton6984 That's good information to know, thank you! I've mapped nearly the whole river just never committed to an actual trip. Oregon is hard to beat for paddling opportunities! Unless of course you're talking winter
@@GatewoodBrown Winter is definitely cold by TX standards, but not that cold. We put on dry suits and paddle year round. Paddling paradise out here. BTW, my first ever overnight river trip was Santa Elena Canyon. We had enough flow to run from the top. Thank you for the video of that. :)
@@brentbolton6984 that’s awesome to be able to paddle year round. Winter definitely keeps the crowds off! That’s why fall is my favorite time to go
Felt like I was tagging along. Excellent video. Thanks.
That’s the goal! Glad to hear it John
Another fantastic video.
You have such a talent to make the viewer feel like we are along for the ride.
I wish you could make more videos maybe even film.
Hello Netflix are you watching.
I'll be waiting for more content.
Be safe brother
Kenneth Wimmers thank you Kenneth! That’s the nicest thing I’ve heard all week. I’m glad it’s immersive and you felt a part of trip. That’s the goal! Currently working on a video about camping out west. Be on the lookout in the next couple weeks!
@@GatewoodBrown Can't wait.
Keep it going. You are so enjoyable.
Maybe one day if I'm lucky I will see in person and get that picture with you.
Kenneth Wimmers it would be a pleasure of mine as well. You’ve always been a day 1 supporter which keeps me going. Looking to do a gear video this fall since rain has not started. There’s not much worth paddling around here
That looked like a blast !
It really was! Hoping we get more rain soon
WOW, what an awesome-looking river.
It’s a special place for sure
