So many things impressed me about this trip. The camaraderie, The grit, but most of all the abuse that Aquabound paddle took! When people say they can’t have a composite paddle because they’re too hard on them I’m going to send them a link to this video.
Always means so much to have you watching the videos Dan! Those aquabounds are something else I tell ya. This was straight abuse and it still has tons of life left. Put this video on their kiosk at the stores you sell to haha

Nothing worse than getting in and out of the kayak for 6-7 miles on the river. I will never forget how good the water on the White felt and how good the Breadeax Pizza was that night in Yellville! Totally agree! Crooked creek looks like a wonderful place to paddle if there’s enough water. I’ll have to try that pizza place! But you’re spot on about those hard days on the river. Tough but lasting memories
This video reminds me of a kayak day trip we did 15 miles of almost the same thing. The feeling of being free paddling open water then beached on some rocks and walking through large pebbles rock bed. Getting back in the kayak to get stuck again. But looking back it was very rewarding and i will never forget the beautiful sites and seeing a pair of bald eagles. One thing saved me was I had on a good pair of water shoes with some good grip. Brother what a good trip with your buddies. I know the kayaking part was a little tough but you all hung in there and made the trip happen. You had some nice camping area. I know everyone's feet enjoyed being relaxed at the at the campsite. With all the portishing that you had to do I know my feet would have taken a beating from that cuz I still have pains in my feet time to time from when both of my feet was broken in the truck 🚛 accident. I just did a 40 mile kayak camping trip with my family and family friends over the Labor Day Holiday. What was more exciting is that my lil brother transferred back home with his job & he went kayak camping with us on this trip & it was his first time kayaking and kayak camping. He really really enjoyed it and he now wants to buy a kayak so he can join us on kayak camping Adventures. I'm really close with my lil brother and I haven't seen him in 2 years since the pandemic has started. He sad that he left Texas but he's also happy that he moved back home close to family and has a new activity that he loves. I will share your Channel with my lil brother cuz I know he will love your Channel since he likes kayaking now. I am so glad that he likes kayaking cuz I want to take him on so many kayak trips. Good video brother thank you for sharing.

Good to see you're still paddling :) I planned a two day Kayak&Camp with a friend of mine on the river Maas (BE-NL), but due to the heat the water levels were too low (to non-existing)....
We may try this river next spring. Great video. We are going to do the lower Sabine this November starting at Toledo bend spillway. Sandbars and campfires 🔥
Your kayaks took a beating on this one. Those deep holes for swimming was awesome!! Really cool video Gatewood and I loved the scenery of the mountains. Way to have fun out there 👍🏻👍🏻
Jason in the house again! Man they did…can’t believe they didn’t fail haha. Talk about well built equipment. Still waiting to do a trip with you my man!
Loving these videos. I'm from ETX and live in Austin now, but myself and a group of friends used to regularly go hike the Eagle Rock Loop. Such a beautiful, underrated section of country. Absolutely brutal trail but you feel so accomplished afterwards.
@@GatewoodBrown yeah, it's was only a 5-6 hour drive from where we used to live. The trail itself is insane. 27 miles I think? The brutal thing is that it's an old postal road where they carried mail into the boonies -- was originally used by horses and pulled carts from what I've read and unlike most purpose built hiking trails, there's almost no switchbacks. It's straight up and down the mountain sides. First time I hiked it I was basically rock crawling up a mountain with a 35-40 lb pack wondering what I'd gotten myself into. 😂
The druffle looks great! Man i've only been on one trip this year been really busy with the ministry, but im going to my happy place next week to do the fanny review and celebrate 2 years of sobriety. .thanks for another awesome upload
BE in the house! Thanks for showing up all these years man, means so much! Hope you get out this fall, coming up on my favorite time to paddle. Congrats on your sobriety brother, that’s a huge milestone. Glad you have the outdoors to help with it a little.
At least you picked a good spot to drag a lot! Amazing views! Oh! And congrats on techs win over my cougs last weekend. I though we had you guys. Next time!
That’s a great way to look at it! We walked but at least it was scenic. That was a close game, thought y’all had us at 4th and 20 during overtime. Those are fun games to watch
Beautiful area that I've hiked and camped but never ran. The Cossatot to the west is even more brutal. One note, that HWY 84 bridge was where volunteers were searching for people after the horrific 6/11/2010 flood that killed so many campers.
Awesome once again been waiting for the next video. Thanks again for all the hard work in filming....also inspired me to get my kayak last week yellowfin 120 and also doing our first kayak camping trip in 2 weeks.
@@chickenandricecrew9867 Yeah! I had bought the CREW earlier in the summer for a trip I took with my wife. Old Town doesnt have a tandem sit on top so Crescents looked like the best optino. I really appreciate that GROA! Means a lot to have you watching all these videos and leaving feedback. Our crew is a motley one and it’s so fun to capture everyone’s experience
As someone who lives and paddles in Arkansas, the summer is not the best time for paddling here. Unless it's one if the spring fed rivers in north central part of the state. Looks like y'all had a killer time anyway. Nicely done.
This is what I’m doing this summer I’m starting at jaw lake spillway and camping/kayaking to where it meets with bluestem, it’s not too secluded of a trip but it’s a decent sized journey for me and will be my first time solo kayak camping. So exited
Thanks for the vid, Gatewood! Bracing for a trip like this in a few weeks (not the scenery, the draggery) --- I guess the dry summer set us up for some shallow fall rivers in TX?
Yeah these trips happen sometimes. We try to avoid it where possible but that’s not always the case. Depends which river! Most are low but east Texas is doing fine. Rio grande is pumping
Another amazing video! We did 10 on the Ouachita River and then 10 on the lake. The River was EXACTLY like this. Brutal dragging for a lot of it. Builds a little bit of character. When are the waterproof duffles coming out?
Hey Jason! We almost did the OR since the little mo was looking shallow. Probably should’ve gone with our guy but oh well, had the place to ourselves haha
I really enjoy your videos and hope to make good videos some day. Until then I'm gonna keep making the swervy ones. I made my first kayak camping video. It was fun. You definitely make some good quality videos. Keep them coming. We need more. #swervycrew Ken

I so wanted to do that stretch of river this year and you quickly reminded me why I didn't. Rain was not our friend throughout most of the states this year. I'm hoping this Fall and Spring bring more fortunate kayaking times. Nevertheless, it still looks like a great trip albeit a bit of a travel from Houston for such low water... But I get why you went. More likely to find water there than in this state at the moment.
Yes! We got caught up in the beauty and definitely chose a time that wasn’t suited for a successful trip. Next spring we just might have to go back and see it in it’s true form

Great video! You really do capture it all man. Your talent and effort really show out!
THank you so much Heath! It's been so fun to connect with so many like minded people. So crazy it's grown to a large community. So many cool rivers to showcase still!
@@GatewoodBrown I live in Florida now, but grew up in C. TX. Wish I was into kayaking and adventure trips when I lived there like I do now! Beautiful country back home.
@@heathen_7 yes! Kayaking is low key in Texas. I think these videos are helping to change that
looks great for packrafting!
Yes for sure!
Worth the wait and awesome adventure of “Rock Slipping” ;-) and now I can’t wait to make it up to Arkansas for myself yet again with friends making gnarly memories.
Thanks man! Yeah the rock slipping comment was spot on for sure. They were all good sports about the grind. So savage!
@@GatewoodBrown well it makes for great content and a challenge 😉
@@LemironStarling that’s the truth man. Still so much fun filming and spending a wild weekend with the guys
props to those paddles! surprised they didnt give up on yall!!
Modern paddles, especially those that are well made, can take a beating! Probably why I’m such a fan of aquabound and their gear
I was really looking forward to your next upload, and was not disappointed! What amazing cinematography and storytelling skills you have. Sorry you had to cut the trip short, but it looks like you got to enjoy the paddling/walking you did do! Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate you watching the videos everytime they are uploaded! Yeah we hope to tackle the whole thing next time. You could tell there was a lot of beautiful river left. Cheers!
Ooooo those new bags lookin sick! Awesome video man! 💪🏼😄
Thanks drew! I appreciate you tuning in my man!
Good to see you're still paddling :) I planned a two day Kayak&Camp with a friend of mine on the river Maas (BE-NL), but due to the heat the water levels were too low (to non-existing)....
This summer has been tough on flows in so many places. Unfortunate but hopefully they will fill up this fall!
We may try this river next spring. Great video. We are going to do the lower Sabine this November starting at Toledo bend spillway. Sandbars and campfires 🔥
It’s so stunning! But lots of water is needed which makes the rapids very tricky
Beautiful video work and story telling bravo!
Thank you so much DC! I appreciate you watching the video and stopping by to say hey
I've just found your channel, great adventure lads. Tough going at times but you pushed on and got a great trip out of it. Magic 👍
Thank you! Definitely a tough experience but it kept us wanting to come back when there’s more water. What a place!
@@GatewoodBrown give me a holler when you’re back in Kentucky. The river hasn’t cooperated much with us this year.
@@BackpackingWithJason will do my man!
Loving these videos. I'm from ETX and live in Austin now, but myself and a group of friends used to regularly go hike the Eagle Rock Loop. Such a beautiful, underrated section of country. Absolutely brutal trail but you feel so accomplished afterwards.
It’s always shocking how close etx is to the mountains of AR and OK. Can’t believe I just found that out!
That trail looks like it has a ton of water crossings and summits
@@GatewoodBrown yeah, it's was only a 5-6 hour drive from where we used to live. The trail itself is insane. 27 miles I think? The brutal thing is that it's an old postal road where they carried mail into the boonies -- was originally used by horses and pulled carts from what I've read and unlike most purpose built hiking trails, there's almost no switchbacks. It's straight up and down the mountain sides. First time I hiked it I was basically rock crawling up a mountain with a 35-40 lb pack wondering what I'd gotten myself into. 😂
@@realmattdavis thats a long trail for a 40lb pack!
Great video as always, hopefully you get another chance, I bet the next ten miles is just as epic!
Man I tell you what the river was so pretty looking off in the distance. I’ll be going back for sure!
Awesome video man. Glad to see you in a Cresent Kayak. Such an underrated company!
Thanks Aaron! Really enjoyed the craftsmanship of the crescent. You can tell they’re tuned into their performance driven kayaks
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I grew up in the Ouachita Mountains. Fortunately, the area is still underrated and mostly unknown. Killer area 💯👍
Amazing shots! Thanks!
Thank you so much Juli!
Glad you have the outdoors to help with it a little.
always great content. what a beautiful place to paddle
Thanks man. Yeah it was so beautiful out there. Need to go back!
It’s stunning out there. Probably a top 5 place I’ve ever been because of how wild it is. That flood was very unfortunate and so sad
Good video beautiful scenery. Reminds me of canoeing in the New Jersey pine lands during the week when few were on the river.
Great video as always! Despite the conditions, that looked like a ton of fun.
Thanks cliff! A good thing coming out of that was knowing what flow rate to target for the next trip haha
Needs more matt damon ik. Amazing editing skills. Always look forward to your adventures
Haha Matt Damon got covid and couldn’t make it. Such a travesty!
Finally, been checking your channel on the reg for some new junts
Yes! Finally some new videos haha. I’ve got a bunch coming up which should be fun
Beautiful. Love this stuff.
I appreciate you watching!
Awesome once again been waiting for the next video. Thanks again for all the hard work in filming....also inspired me to get my kayak last week yellowfin 120 and also doing our first kayak camping trip in 2 weeks.
That’s so awesome! I’ve heard great things about the yellowfin. Let me know how it goes man!
@@GatewoodBrown I see you went with the cresent kayak is there a reason you went with that over your oldtown? Is it the cresent light tackle?
@@chickenandricecrew9867 Yeah! I had bought the CREW earlier in the summer for a trip I took with my wife. Old Town doesnt have a tandem sit on top so Crescents looked like the best optino. The Crew can be tandem or solo so I figured I'd try the solo mode out. Really enjoyed it! But a little too much boat for me at 13'
Nice video of the night sky time lapse.
Thank you! The Milky Way was brilliant out there
Awesome work, as always!
Thank you so much!
I was on the Eagle Rock Loop in March, there was much more water then. 😂 Another awesome video!
Yeah it was pumping this spring! I need to go back then. We’d have been better off hiking the loop haha. Thanks for watching again!
Another great video. Loved every second of it. Thank you.
Thank you, Kathy! Hope you've been well!
Excellent video, you are great capturing everyone’s personality and the overall vibe of the trip…
Haha we found that out the hard way! Still seemed like a lot of water compared to our texas rivers. We were wrong! lol
This is what I’m doing this summer I’m starting at jaw lake spillway and camping/kayaking to where it meets with bluestem, it’s not too secluded of a trip but it’s a decent sized journey for me and will be my first time solo kayak camping. So exited
The river name is the Arkansas river
That’ll be a rad journey. Have fun!
Beautiful place..
allways making epic videos cant wait for the next
Thanks DK! Delivering the goods is always my priority. Few uploads but high impact each time hopefully
Got to camp here last year and now am going back next week to kayak camp. Pretty stoked.
Never heard of this river. But buffalo is a yearly tradition.
I need to make it to the Buffalo!! Looks like an amazing place. Soon!
Beautiful. I have been wanting to go to Ouachita State Park camping.
Thank you! I bet there is great camping at OSP. The Ouachita mountains are so special!
your videos always get me in the mood to kayak camp lol
That’s the ultimate compliment my man!
Had me watching the whole time. Very good 👍
Absolutely love your videos!
Thank you so much!! I appreciate you taking the time to watch them
Where did you get those boot shoes? What brand are they? Awesome!
NRS neoprene boot! Check out the gearlist in my description for a direct link
Great video and commentary. I felt like I was watching a documentary ❤
Wow that’s a huge compliment thank you! Glad to have ya along for the ride
As always a great video! Makes me want to get my kayak out on the water! Just need to keep an eye on those flow rates.
Agreed! We need more rain to have the most fun. Super low right now
Very interesting sir!! May pay this one a planned visit....
Make sure you go after a recent rain! I’m thinking 100cfs+ only
@Gatewood Brown absolutely understood. Thank you sir!
GREAT VIDEO, AND AS ALWAYS PHENOMENAL EDITING BROTHER 👏 👌
Thank you! It’s so fun to share with y’all, thanks for dropping by and spending time to watch!
Amazing video, as always! I thought I’d be putting my ‘yak away for the season, but now I’m tempted to get out one last time up here in the PNW.
Yes! Fall can be a magical time to paddle since foliage is strong along the rivers. I bet the larches are starting to turn up there
Thanks for the vid, Gatewood!
Duffels are targeting spring 2022!
Gatewood I just bought your backpack, also u definitely need to try out the buffalo river in Arkansas next year. It won’t disappoint!
Thank you Harris! That means a lot! I’ll be packing it up tomorrow for Monday shipping. Buffalo river is on the short list, may even be this year
My friends and I did 115 miles on it last spring, and for a group of 19yo it was a very fun trip.
I really enjoy your videos and hope to make good videos some day. Until then I'm gonna keep making the swervy ones. I made my first kayak camping video. It was fun. You definitely make some good quality videos. Keep them coming. We need more. #swervycrew Ken
Hey thanks Ken that is very kind! As long as you enjoy it keep making those videos. I try to improve a little with each one and after awhile it gets a touch easier. But still having a blast with it!
I love kayaking in Arkansas and many of the rivers are only good in April or May.
I need to make it back up there during those months!
